Deflector

New ways to mutate!

In our previous article we recapped the map of the distinct and deadly microcosms of Deflector. Today let's talk about mutations! They've been with you for a long time now, but, appropriately, the entire range available to you has been changing and growing. Without further ado, here's the newest mutations that emerged in the Deflector Experiment.

Impale - Damaging an enemy with your weapon has a chance to generate a damaging spike from below. Its damage scales with your Attack Attribute.

Explosive Bullets - Deflected bullets have a chance of exploding upon hitting an enemy. The explosion damage scales with your Deflect Attribute.

Extended Immunity - You remain invulnerable after taking damage for a longer time.

Blood Extraction - Defeated enemies drop health orbs. They can be picked up off the ground for a limited time. Your Health Attribute affects the amount of health restored.

Bouncing Star - Your first attack after dashing releases a shuriken at the nearest enemy. The shuriken then bounces between enemies several times, dealing damage based on your Attack Attribute.

Charged Discs - Every few seconds without deflecting you charge a disc, up to 3 in total. The next time you deflect a projectile the discs will be shot at nearby enemies, dealing damage based on your Deflect Attribute.

Swiftness Steal - Killing an enemy restores a dash charge.

Portable Medkit - Summon a healing bot at the end of every combat room. It restores health based on your Health Attribute. This mutation is disabled for one combat room after visiting a Safe Point.

Have you already had a chance to use these mutations? Did any of them become your favorite? Let us know, and stay tuned for more!

Know your maps!

Have you been enjoying the new update? Between the new enemies, the switch to DNA Table and complete map overhaul, even some of the old became a lot newer. To help your participation in the Deflector experiment remain smooth, we’ve decided to detail certain new aspects.

Today let's take a look at the map and some new room markers!

Progress in the Deflector Experiment has allowed for more consistent rewards as you clear rooms of viruses. A reminder in the top right of the screen while you’re exploring any of the four worlds will help keep track of all the icons. But what do they mean?

Mutation Source

Clearing a Mutation Source room is what is going to help you acquire new mutations to make yourself stronger and add new abilities!

Growth

Survive a Growth room and you will be able to upgrade one of your Attributes. Remember, among other things Attributes affect the scaling of your mutations.

Cell Extraction

Exterminate the enemies and you will receive an amount of Cells. They’ll come in handy when visiting the…

Cell Exchange

This is one of the rooms that will let you take a breather. This is where you will be able to turn in the Cells you have earned and acquire upgrades!

Safe Point

Another sight for sore eyes - a room where you will be able to restore your health and take a break from foes and projectiles. Not for long however. And certainly not with the remaining three room types.

Survival

Chock full of enemies and traps. Your goal is to survive for a limited time and move on!

Great Virus

You’ll always find one in the middle of the map. The Great Virus is a ruthless midboss barring your way to the ultimate challenge of a given biome. Beat one and Evolve with a specimen-unique upgrade!

Apex Virus

As before, the pinnacle of a world’s challenges is the massive Apex Virus. The last room on every map. But will it be the last room on your journey…?

Now you know what every room marker on a map means! We hope you find them helpful and don't get lost!

Retiring Specimen One and Zero

Hello assistants!

Recently we have retired Specimen Zero and Specimen One, our free, very short, episodic versions of the game. It was done because they were no longer in line with the game standards and systems were vastly different from the current version of the Deflector. Originally they were used as promotion material for the main game and had a connecting plot line and a reward when you completed them - costumes for Eradicator and Slasher. But don't worry, other ways to earn the costumes for the character will be implemented in the main game later. So stay tuned for more updates.

Check our Discord, because a new chat has appeared called Devlog - where we're sharing upcoming development plans and features with you.

Hotfix - Deflector 0.8.0.8

Patch notes:

  • Resolved an issue where killing Bastion Twins in Living Entrails was not ending the fight thus not being able to proceed in the game.
  • One of the challenges required to unlock a Lightfist evolution has been changed as Arenas are temporary not available in the game.

And so we'll be putting midbosses called Great Viruses into the game as part of the next major update!

These challenging baddies may not be Apex Viruses, but they are no pushovers. Let's see which one awaits you in every biome

Living Entrails: Bastions

Toxic Sea: The Serpent

Magnetic Fields: The Obelisk

Hollow Hive: The Spider

Deflector, Discounts & Decor!

Deflector AI has detected some strange growths in the Hub. Are those... pumpkins?

Halloween is all the rage and Deflector is in on the fun! From October 25th to October 31st pick up Deflector at a special 20% holiday discount. In a way, what is dodging and deflecting swarms of projectiles if not tricks? And are strands of DNA not (really-really-REALLY tiny) treats?

Jump into the game and get yourself both. Stroll around the pumpkin infested decorated Hub. See what's bubbling in the giant cauldron. Then get to what Deflector's best known for. Bust viruses and send their bullets flying back at them!

We've also prepared a list of changes & fixes implemented in the Halloween update:

  • Both parts of the in-game Hub are all spooked up for Halloween (enjoy them while the spooky season lasts!);
  • Eradicator's boomerang will no longer disappear when loading a game;
  • Dash charges will no longer become inverted when loading a game;

Lightfist strategy 💫

Lightfist lets you dream of punching every virus in the face (or the closest thing they have to a face). However, even this desire has nuance to it, so here's a reminder on how to up your Lightfist game.

Remember to charge.
Your right punch is killer when it comes to deflecting projectiles, but if you just tap them it's not going to give them much speed or damage. Really hurt them by holding it down until it's fully charged. Then unleash and you'll make those projectiles fly fast and hit hard!

Stay on the move.
Learn to judge the range of your dodge. When your deflecting punch is fully charged, that range is going to shrink, but you'll still be able to move! Watch those attacks to make sure you see them coming. Dodge and weave while holding your charge for the right time. It's a shorter dodge, but it'll get you out of trouble.

Find the right time to charge and be smart about dodging. That's the way you win with Lightfist!
