Added a new evil miracle : Disease

EA-1.32 Future Age Update

What's new :





Cities improvements


○ Cities can now reach future age!
○ Cities are now trying to get their most needed resources in priority
○ Population and overpopulation is now displayed below city names
○ The most needed resource current and needed stocks number are now displayed in the need bubble
○ The name of the needed resource is now displayed on top of the need bubble
○ Cities forges are now melting the ore available in their biome
○ Added an ingot to inform the player about what metal a forge is melting into ingots
○ All cities are now able to build factories

Audio Improvements


○ All terrain audio sounds have been replaced by better sounds effects
○ All existing human sounds have been replaced and a lot of new humans sounds have been added
○ Audio spatialisation has been improved on many audio sources
○ All the placeholder music have been replaced by their OST version
○ Volume controls have been added on the settings menu


Quality of life improvements


○ Allow to change speed in the game menu from x0.5 to x2
○ Heretics are now highligthed and an outline is displayed when they are hidden behind something
○ The global population needed to reach the next deity level is now displayed in the menu
○ The current selected object is now outlined so the player always know what he will grab when he touch multiple objects
○ Outline color is now greend if the object can be grabbed.
○ Outline color is now orange if the object cannot be grabbed but will be destroyed instead.
○ The game now try to find a new touched object when the current one is not touched anymore.
○ Allow the player to set a prefered language in the menu
○ Autoclose the menu if the player is moving far from it so he don't have to press twice to open it again
○ The multi terrain button in the miracle menu is now pressed on touch.
○ The teleporter beam is no longer blocked by objects


Misc


○ Humans dropped by the player are now trying to build a city. If it is too close to other cities to do so they will join the closest city.
○ You can now crash an UFO to create an alien crash site
○ Improve collision with mountains
○ You can now eat humans
○ Updated Unity to 2020.3.0 LTS

Balancing


- The needed resources amounts for all city ages has been reduced
- There is now a sign post in front of mines to inform the player about the resource it contains
- The needed resource is now displayed above factories that are missing one of their primary resources
- All positive miracle area of effects have been increased
- Nordic cities now needs fur before meat
- Non-nordic cities now needs meat before fur
- Arabic forges are no longer producing jewels but melt gold ore into ingots instead
- Arabic factories are now building jewels
- Children are now aging faster than adults

Bug fixes


- Alien invasions should happen less often.
- Pressing the grab button will no longer grab a previously grabbed object.
- Mines will no longer be created in an adjacent tile instead of the tile they were in the first place
- Smore and text is not outlined anymore when you touch or grab something
- Removed duplicate buildings in African cities
- Fixed a bug that was sometimes preventing the player to grab an object
- Children are not homeless anymore but part of their parents city

Optimizations


- Almost all the 3d models of the game have been remade with less triangles
- Almost all the 3d models of the game are now using the same textures and materials
- The game is now using single pass instanced rendering to reduce draw calls
- Various small optimizations

Localization


- Fallback to English when a translation is not available instead of displaying an error message
- Dutch translation has been added


Big announcement!

Hello folks!

Since 4 years I am working on Deisim on my spare time, on evenings and during weekends and I try to do my best to use that small amount of available time to improve the game. The game started small and became more and more complex over time and it was more and more difficult to improve it in that timeframe. For months this issue was a dead end for me and as you probably saw the updates rate was slower and slower over time.

But this is an old story now! I'm glad to announce that starting Monday my only job will be to work on Deisim!

What does that mean in practice?

- I will spend most of my time working on the game and adding new content to it.
- Update rate should increase a lot. I'm targeting an update per month so way better than the current 3-6 month delay between updates!
- The next update with the future age stuff and many optimizations should be available in 1-2 weeks.
- In 2 weeks I will start to work on the most requested feature during this early access : The Kingdoms update!



I must say a huge thank you to all the people that believed in the project and purchased the game during this early acccess. An even bigger thank you to the people who support me on patreon. You are the people that made this situation possible.

EA-1.31.1 - Hotfix

- The halloween skybox has been removed.

- The smoke above factories is now disabled properly when the factory is not producing resources.

- Fixed a bug preventing humans to collect iron ore when the city needed Oil.

What's new?




  • Some cities are now feasting for haloween and a strange spirit can be seen in the sky.
  • The game menu has been completely remade with a different approach and a more modern experience.
  • Enable and disable buttons are now replaced by checkboxes.
  • The game will now ask confirmation before overriding a save.

Cities improvements



  • Cities can now reach modern age
  • Modern cities build bigger residential buildings close to the city center and smaller ones further away.
  • Cities will now upgrade all their buildings when they evolve and not only the city center.

Added a new special human : The Scientist



  • Scientist generate Knowledge for his city.
  • Each time the scientist generate knowledge he also reduce his city's faith making it an atheist city over time.


Improved disaster system



  • The disaster system has been entirely rewritten to allow me to add more disasters in the future and to tweak their frequency.
  • The system try to prevent the same disaster to happen 2 times in a row
  • It also prevent disasters always happening in the same place.


New disaster : Alien Contact



  • This disaster send an UFO who will try to capture people on your world.


New interaction system



  • The interaction system has been entirely rewritten to allow me to fine tune controls for each devices and to easily expand it with future VR devices.
  • The system try to detect which object you are trying to grab when you are touching multiple objects.
  • SteamVR 2.0 is now supported so you can change your controls with steam action mappings to better fit your own needs.
  • The old experimental single controller mode has been removed. Please use steamVR action mapping instead to fine tune your experience and let me know if you have any issue to play Deisim.


And also :



  • Humans can now be burned in the volcano.
  • Homeless people are now wearing brown clothes.
  • The old rotation system has been removed and replaced by a snap turning system using the thumbstick or the touchpad depending of the controllers.
  • City names are now colored depending of their faith.
  • Factories and crafters are now only displaying smoke when they are crafting and not when they are waiting for raw materials.


Balancing



  • Disable achievements in Sandbox mode.
  • Reduce mankind needed for all deity levels.
  • Ensure at least one worker of the city is always looking for the need displayed in the bubble.
  • Tweaked resources amount needed for most ages.
  • Void miracle is now a bad miracle unlocked at intermediate deity lvl.
  • Reduced cost of the Void miracle.


Bug fixes



  • Disasters are not anymore happening at the same place over and over.
  • Fixed an issue breaking the save feature and happening sometimes after a build has been destroyed by the void miracle. This is an hard bug to solve so let me know if it still happen on your side.
  • Humans are no longer frozen when the player try to load an empty save slot.
  • Tweaked the play area to ensure the player is able to touch the floor.


Localization



  • The game now automatically switches to your system language.
  • Improved support of non-Latin characters.
  • Changed the localization files format from json to csv so they are easier to edit.

What's next?


I received a lot of constructive feedback about the UI and especially the menu and I think it is time to rethink the game menu from scratch and make it more convenient for the player. The next update will be focused on improving user experience in general. I will write a blog post about it in the end of the month.

I hope you will enjoy this big update that required a lot of work during very difficult times. Working during the COVID crisis was really complicated and I am glad I can finally give you this update after so many hours spent on it.

Dev Diary #6

Hello folks!

It's been a while since the last update, 2 months already, I have been very busy working on the modern age. It is a big change requiring a lot of modifications to the existing code, 20 new human models and a lot of new buildings but it is almost ready for release!

Modern age




As you can see this time the changes will be huge and you will be able to discover your world with a very different mood when the humans will finally start to build skyscrappers!



UFO



Building is fun but a god's life can be boring sometimes and a bit of challenge is welcome so let me introduce UFO invasion.

UFO invasion is a new disaster that will happen from time to time. Mankind discovered the power of the atom and will start to encounter an alien specie. What wrong could happen?



Belgian Game Awards nomination



I am glad to announce you that Deisim is nominee this year again for the Belgian Game Awards. The winners will be announced this friday! Wish me best luck!



When is the next update?



I do my best to make it available early in march but there is a lot of changes under the hood so I will probably put it in the beta branch for 1 or 2 weeks to ensure the quality is good enough before sending it to all of you.

Roadmap Update





As you can see I expect the game to be feature complete this summer and will then put a lof of effort to fix all the bugs and polish what's needs to be polished. The early access phase finishing it will be the time to rise the price of the game. The final price will probably be around 15$.

After almost 4 years in early access it will be time to release the game as a finished product.

But wait....there is more :


During early access 2 big features have been asked to me a lot of time but are so big that they could be entire games.

The first one the ability to share worlds with your friends and having the ability to have an impact of their worlds. I have a lot of cool ideas of crazy stuff that you could do and will finally have the time to experiment them after the release.

The second one is the biggest one and could be a game by itself : Kingdoms.
I'm sure I don't need a lot of explanation for this one. I want it to be awesome and will take the time to do it right but I started working on it a long time ago.

Features



  • It is now possible to move the world vertically with the God locomotion
