Desert Pirates

Features explained: RAMMING!

RAM!

Ahhhh RAMMING, basically, you can hit other cars to inflict damage on them (this mechanic also applies if the enemies hits YOU).

Very fun stuff, usually, primary weapons overheat very rapidly to increase the use of this kind of mechanics and make the game a lot more fun!

BONUS!

Another level design!

For this scenario, the player has a couple of options:

  • If playing alone, they can use the Speed Boost to navigate through the fire blockers efficiently.
  • If they have a convoy behind them, they will need to choose between two options:
  • Turn off the fire blocking the path.
  • Destroy the generator. However, be cautious, as the generator is protected by a swarm. Players can opt to take a secondary path to avoid the swarm.

Enjoy the video! Speed is set at 12x when designing, but the level has been tested at normal speed.

Have fun!

Features explained: Dynamic Zoom Camera

Dynamic Zoom Camera

What does it look like, you ask?

To put it in motion, simply unleash the mighty power of the mouse wheel!

And what's it good for, you wonder?

  • It lets you peer ahead on the road, giving you a chance to brace yourself for what's coming.
  • You can also examine your vehicles in all their glory, marvel at their awesomeness, and take in every detail.

Bonus!

Level edition:

What's happening here, you ask? This is a level of CANNIBAL difficulty, rated at 1.
Now, for your choices in this level: it's a rather simple one, with a couple of ways to go.

The path splits in two, and you face a decision. You can either douse the fire blocking your way or engage in a fight with a swarm of enemies if you have the resources for it.

After that, you face another choice. You can either quickly smash through the blockade to make your escape or take on a second hidden swarm waiting at the exit. But remember, going back might lead you into the clutches of the previous swarm. Choose wisely, for survival is never guaranteed in the Wasteland.

Level design: Making driving postapocalyptic levels

Hello, I'm going to start sharing (maybe even streaming) when working on the game levels.
Here is one example (x7 speed) of the las one I did, although already starter before recording... ːsteamfacepalmː

So, here is the level idea (Just take an screenshot of the map and start drawing over it):
Blue Lines is limits that can not be destroyed.
Yellow lines are limits that can be destroyed.
I tried to use the SHIELD as a limit as well, if the player can go trough it will avoid some encounters.

And the videos!Part 1

Join our cause and aid us in refining THE GREATEST COMBAT VEHICLE GAME EVER BORN!

You shall partake in a taste of the gameplay, embarking through 7 perilous zones towards the ultimate goal, and a newfound tutorial awaits, with 4 challenging stages.

Yet, the metagame eludes us for now (but fear not, it approaches swiftly), and thus, the true essence of the Roguelike experience remains in the shadows.

The UI, SFX, and VFX still linger as mere placeholders, for we reserve the grand spectacle for a later unveiling. Our current endeavor is the refinement of gameplay, as we march onward toward our grand destiny.

New Playtest while SHMUP Steam Fest!!

In the upcoming SHMUP Steam Fest, the next September 25, we will open a new playtest for all players that want to try a little bit of the game, we are now ready to show a small taste of what this game is becoming: THE GREATEST COMBAT VEHICLE GAME EVER MADE.

You will be playing a little bit of the gameplay, 7 zones to get to the end, plus a new tutorial with 4 stages.

Sharing Playtest Results

Hello!
First of all, I want to say thanks again to all the players to give us feedback to improve the game, you are awesome!
We want to share this feedback with you, so you are aware of the future changes and improvements of the game. Ok, data!

  • 223 players requested access
  • 53 gave us feedback!
  • We don't know how many of the requested access played the game, forgot to track that!

About the questions:

Is the game fun for you?

  • 72,3 said Yes
  • 25,5 said Mhe
  • 2,1 said No

We think that in this instance of the game is really good, and there is a lot of room to improve! We would be happier with an 80% yes, but 25 "Mhe" is encouraging! (a "Mhe" is no a NO, but also is not a "Yes" per se, but with the feedback we can really improve that!

Things that liked the most

  1. Destroying things
  2. Cars
  3. Driving

We will continue to improve the destruction (you obviously like that), and also we got some feedback to improve the driving.

Things that liked the least

  1. Camera
  2. Orders
  3. Driving (again?)

We received lots of camera feedback, apparently there is an issue that we couldn't reproduce (little jumps on specifics areas) and you asked for some room to looking around. About the orders, plus than half of players didn't try them, so we are going to put some emphasis on that. Driving needs more polish as well.

There is more things to dig into, but I think is easier to tell on what are we going to be working based on the feedback you guys gave us:

Camera
-the camera requires some freedom to observe what happens around
-when changing zones the zoom is not maintained

Driving
- gets ""stuck"" going backwards
- add animations to feel less floaty
- car doesn't decelerate when the key is released (probably we broke that while tuning)

Word Navigation
- add a compass in-game (probably on the minimap)

Aiming
- add a ""no hit state"" for enemies out of weapon range
- bigger magnet weapon for small assets (explosive barrels and stuff)

Weapon
- cooldown with a better explanation, and probably a manual faster reloading
- add a secondary weapon

World
- visual fixes for some zeta fighting's here and there
- a little more detail on ground
- different backgrounds

Those were the most requested things! (there are more, but smaller)

Right now in the game design we are changing some stuff:
- Every car is unique: stats, systems, weapons and driver
- Everything of those can be upgraded, upgrades will be permanent.

And the really big change comes into genre.
The game was aiming to be a Roguelike, but now, we think its better (and more fun) to make a step forward and become a RPG.
The game will have two big parts:
- Playing Drivers Stories (a story for every driver), in which the convoy you play will be preconfigured (to make more interesting stories) and the maps will be also hand made, and story based quests.
- And a Hard Run, in which the player can choose his convoy and just have a free ride though the wasteland, finding car pieces for unlock new cars, and with that, unlocking more driver stories.

What do you guys think of these?

We need to make some adjustments on the store page!
We love how the game is turning around and it's definitely a better game thanks to you!
See you soon!

Thank you for a VERY successful Playtest!!!!

Thank you Thank you Thank you!!
We only have thankful words for everyone who playtested the game and gave us some very valuable feedback!

We want to share all your thoughts and recommendations but we need a little time to analyze it, we'll probably re-scope the game to build the thing you guys want, that's our job!

Thanks again for helping the little guy, really very appreciated!

See you soon!!
