Desolation Week in Review 24/2/18



We know, we're one day late. We saved the Devlog and the build for today during our livestream event that we will be hosting once again next Saturday, so stay tuned here: . Regardless, lets hop into the updates for this week.

Animations:

We’ve continued working on our procedural animation system tech. Bliz has been working on the structure and functionality of it and is attempting to make the most realistic and immersive animations for our February 25 Alpha test. This system is quite complex and is still a work in progress, so their may be issues the players will encounter and they should report these issues directly through our bug report chat within our Discord.

0.0.17 Patch

The 0.0.17 test will include things such as: Matchmaking and Game servers, Character movement using the actual client prediction and server authoritative system unlike before. All first person animation systems are complete, the third person animation system is almost done as well as the procedural recoil system. We still need to expose some variables to the Blueprint to add the randomness/modification of the assets from the build 0.0.15 they were correctly migrated and relocated to have a cleaner folder structure. We have the stance change working but there are still a few bugs that we are correcting, but will be looking further into them later. This playtest will be our first Official test and will allow Content creators such as streamers and youtubers to record under our NDA Adjustment that can be applied for until we release the keys during our livestream on Saturday morning at 9:00 am EST. The links for both the NDA, the adjustment for the NDA, and the stream will be in the description of the devlog found at the bottom of this announcement.

Level Design:

We have continued furnishing buildings and are now working on zones that will close off the map gradually. We are currently redoing some of our foliage once again and are continuing to optimize the level for our upcoming tests.
We also have been working on another addition to the map, the shipwreck. This new area fits the theme of the game and is very unsettling, but also very pretty and definitely a nice edition to the map. We plan to add a wrecked train car in the near future as well due to high requests from our community in our Discord.

Kickstarter and Final Notes:

We have finally hit 2k! This means that the stretch goals we have promised previously will be fulfilled and picked out by the community, and we will also continue adding more in the near future. We're very happy that we have reached 600% funded and there are still a few days left on the Kickstarter so you can still donate if you have not already.

Desolation Week in Review for 2/16/2018


Here are some updates for this week:
Animations -
Starting off with animations systems, we have quite a few updates to our procedural animation tech, such as the improved recoil system Bliz has been working as well as the new animations we will be acquiring very shortly after the end of the Kickstarter campaign. This will include new weapons such as the AS VAL and items such as drugs which will be a topic for a future update. This new animation tech will be in its early testing phase within the upcoming Public Test Patch.
0.0.17 Patch -
We have begun internal testing of it and hope to get it in your hands within the next week or so. Until then, we will continue working on getting this patch as polished as we can before delivering it to the community.
Kickstarter Stretch Goals
Moving on from the animations and patches to the Kickstarter, we are nearly 400% funded and is heading closer to the $2000 stretch goal! Speaking of the $2000 stretch goal, we have decided that the community will vote on what gun goes into the game and gets the premium donator skin! We will also vote on the new map name and an Easter Egg that will be included within it. Voting will end Sunday morning at 12:00 AM and then all votes are final, so you better vote while you can!
Level Design -
We have once again optimized the level along with adding new trees, a new type of grass, and messing with our height based fog system. Decreased draw calls drastically and improved performance by 30% without reducing any quality.

Desolation Update 09/02/18


Update 0.0.17 is now on its way being uploaded to the Steam page! We have been hard at work this week with many improvements, completions, and optimizations.
0.0.17 Patch: The build is now being uploaded and will be in your hands soon enough. We are working on delivering a stable build for our first official public patch, so please be patient. This build needs to feature massive performance optimizations, updated levels, dynamic gunplay, etc. We hope you enjoy the build and will send keys very, very soon once the patch is ready to launch.
Animations: Bliz has been finalizing the procedural animation system and has also been working on implementing the new P08 animation we have previously shown. We will be seeing many more animations as well as new weapons in the very near future. The P08 Animation is in engine and works as intended, which also provides a of content for the 0.0.17 patch!
Kickstarter: We are about to hit the $900 mark and are hoping to hit the $1000 very soon. This will allow us to complete the stretch goals promised in the previous update. We hope to keep adding things and continue progressing the game as much as possible.
Optimization Tweaks: The Parallax Occlusion remaps are complete and are now in the level along with some more custom models for trees and vehicles!

New Stream: A new Stream will occur at the time the Steam update is posted to show off what we are working on/have completed! This will give all previous testers an idea of how much progress we have gotten through within the recent weeks. Procedural Animation System, Backer Report, Environment Art, and More!



Hello guys, we are back with a bunch of new features and updates to how we will be running the project/our community from now on!

Procedural Animation System:
Bliz has been hard at work nearly completing the PA System for aiming in/recoil and should be ready for our upcoming build later within the coming week or so.

New Animations:
Since we are already on the topic of animations, we have new animations/new weapons coming very soon that will add more content as well as some different items for you to try out.

Map Updates:
We have 2 maps in full development with many more on the way! Optimization and model passes are being worked on to create the most immersive/most optimized experience for you all.

Backer Report/Stretch Goals for Kickstarter:
We are on the verge of hitting the $800 mark on Kickstarter with over 217% funded already! If we hit $1000, the following will be a result:
All animations will be reworked,
A fully public playtest for our Discord will be in order upon the end of the Kickstarter,
More custom models, animations, and care put into each individual asset,
YouTube updates will begin being made professionally covering updates like you see here in more depth and detail with more visual aids for you guys!

Future Updates/Progress Reports:
The new layout for our updates for the game will begin releasing every Friday in the afternoon. Similar to this, it will list all important details/features that we have been working on and updates on the games current state.

Optimization Passes, Particle Updates, Animations, and More!

Hey guys, Ben here with some updates on Desolation for you all! We have been able to do quite a bit within the few days of the Steam Store Page launch like Optimization, Particle Updates, and more!

Optimization Passes:
We have been able to complete quite a few optimization passes to ensure quality as well as high FPS counters. We have come from a 40-50 to 70-90 on moderate gaming builds at High to Max settings!

Particle System:
With optimization of many of our particles by yours truly, we have been able to incorporate many more of them in our scenes to make them feel more alive!

Animations:
We have also been able to begin on a Procedural Animation System that will feature randomized ADS recoil, a "lag behind effect", and weapon sway to ensure that the players do not have perfect aim.
Funds have been directed towards animators and modelers to add more custom weapons/objects into the game.

Other things:
The map has had graphics updates, changes in Post Processing and Antialiasing to make the game more cinematic.
The second pass (2 out of 4) is complete and maximizes playability as well as
replaces extra models to raise the overall atmosphere.
We have fixed a lot of netcode and have many more tweaks to the code coming soon.
