Important note on matchmaking:
We have introduced region-based matchmaking to improve your gaming experience. Upon starting the game for the first time, players are assigned a region. You can change your region anytime in the game settings. Matchmaking will now only connect players within the same region. The current regions are NSA (North and South America), EMEA (Europe, Middle East, and Africa), and Asia-Pacific. These regions may be updated in future patches.

Rating System Overhaul
Hey fighters! ⚔️
"Our newest update, 1.0.5, among many other changes, also aims to bring more accuracy and fairness to how player skills are assessed and ranked. Here’s a detailed breakdown of the changes to the rating system:"
Accuracy-Based Rating: Player rating now incorporates an "accuracy" metric, which increases with the number of games played in ranked modes and decreases over time.
Impact on Ratings: Due to this new system, player ratings will initially decrease for everyone after this update.
Live Rating: A new stat called "Live Rating" has been introduced in the backend. This time-adjusted rating will be accessible in the next update. Live Rating reflects your rating decreased by the duration since your last game.
Rating Display: The game uses recorded ratings for leaderboards and player stat screens. After each match, your rating is recalculated, which may result in a decrease even if you win. This is expected and is due to the difference between "Live" and "Saved" ratings, as the game readjusts accuracy.
In addition to this significant change, today's update brings many other changes, which can be found in the patch notes ⬇️
⚙️UPDATE 1.0.5. PATCH NOTES⚙️
- Combo system overhaul - Removed movement direction from all combos - Perfect parry now affects attacker's stamina as well - Reimplemented lighting for multiple levels. This should also increase readability of characters a bit. - Fixed issue with leaderboard not showing the proper kill count - S2 Attacks are now blockable - Roll attack is now a bit faster - since it's S2 as well, it is now blockable - Parry time is now increased to make it easier to perform in high ping scenarios - Players can no longer move when parrying - S3 attacks are no longer effective in tracking the enemy - can be countered by dash/rolls - Stances can now be mapped to key/input - this should allow support for any (non-axial) input method - Attack type as well as attack time are indicated using lens flare effects - white = attack can be blocked, red = attack can't be blocked - Players with more uncertain ratings (new players) will have lower ratings - Added open-Discord button to the main menu

UPDATE 1.0.4
Hey Warriors!
We are working hard to implement your feedback as quickly as possible. Therefore, we are pleased to bring you a new update, version 1.0.4, which includes the following changes to Die by the Blade:
Added "open combo" mode for free flow sequences. This also means that roll attack is no longer predetermined and uses S2 attack of given stance - only allowed in local, hosted and practice modes. If community finds this as preferred system, then it will replace default combo system.
Roll combo can now be executed only in MID stance (in default combo mode) - This should eliminate situations where players were able to change stances during roll.
Forward roll and Backward roll are bit slower now.
Fixed death animations with dismemberment. Characters no longer limp without limbs, but fall to the ground.
Increased maximum distance of camera to fix characters being off the screen in certain situations. This can still happen, but should be less prominent now.
Player rating is visible in stats and also with his name in online modes.
Movement and attack speed are now properly affecting characters.
Characters were rebalanced for specific attribute or attribute combination.
Server location info is now present in overlay.
Added sanity check and update of Mouse sensitivity setting when the game starts.
Added option to enable/disable depletable stamina in practice mode.
Added option to turn ON/OFF haptic feedback for controllers.
Added note to online lobbies that rating will be updated only when playing ranked online modes.
Updated icon for Rating stat.
Increased katana stagger state length after parry.
Parry takes less time to recover from.
Rolls and dashes are now using more resolve and can't be executed if resolve is too low.
Increased warm-up frame count and active frame count in Chokuto top stance attack. It should be easier to parry/block it now.
Fixed issue with mouse input not registered for some players. If problem persists, please switch game to fullscreen mode. Then you can go back to borderless and it will work. New installs will run the game in fullscreen by default.
Fixed issue on character selection screen with some equipments being rendered with low-res textures.
Fixed animation issue with LOW-VERTICAL chokuto attack which was not registering hit.
In finisher tutorial, player no longer resets when hitting opponent with S1 or S2, making it easier to execute.
Fixed several issues in Chinese, Korean, German, Spanish and Japanese localization.
Our Apology and Path Forward for Die by the Blade
Dear Warriors,
As CEO of Grindstone, I want to personally apologize on behalf of our entire development team!
We recently released Die by the Blade, and after your feedback and reviews we have realized that unfortunately the game is not in the state it should be. We understand your frustration and disappointment, and we deeply regret any inconvenience we have caused to you all.
Die by the Blade has been in development for five years by a small, dedicated team and it was a very long and complicated journey. Somewhere along the way, we lost objective insight and made the very poor decision to release Die by the Blade fully instead of opting for Early Access on Steam. We didn’t want to fail our Kickstarter backers and community by delaying the full release again and now we realize how poor decision we’ve made. We well deserve all the negative feedback and reviews we’ve received so far.
If we could revert our decision, we would launch Die by the Blade into Early Access, gather your valuable feedback and make necessary improvements before a full launch. Unfortunately we can’t change already released game to Early Access but we still believe in Die by the Blade original idea and we are committed to work hard to make things right.
We are preparing the updates and fixes to address the issues you've encountered and your suggestions. Your feedback is invaluable, and we encourage you to share your thoughts with us so we can improve the game together with you and bring you the game you deserve.
If you want to be part of the process, we would love to talk with you on Discord and listen to your feedback to help us to deliver the quality experience you all deserve.
Feel free to contact the development team and me directly on Discord, here on Steam or LinkedIn and/or you can meet the development team at many events, including Gamescom, Digital Dragons, Game Access and others.
Thank you for continued support!
Yours, Peter Nagy CEO Grindstone
