Dimensional

New bundle: Dimensional + The Relentless

I have just release my new game The Relentless and wanted to provide a discount to the players who enjoyed Dimensional, so I have created a new bundle that will give Dimensional owners 25% off the game.

The Relentless is a very different game to Dimensional, but it continues my goal of forcing people to make the most of their playing area rather than just stand in the middle of the room.

The Relentless - the room-scale action arcade challenge

This time I wanted to explore rapid movement around the play area. You'll find yourself moving quickly, ducking, dodging, jumping, shooting and punching. There are leaderboards to climb and achievements to unlock. It's a difficult and challenging arcade game. Read more about my goals with this game here

v2.0.1 Making the most of Dimensional

The latest version of Dimensional ensures you get the most from the game.

Experience everything

If you get stuck, read the official game guide

Still stuck? Bring up the menu and choose to skip ahead to the next challenge. You'll get a grade F for the level but it means you can experience all of the game as intended.

If you start a level, but don't complete it the next level is still unlocked so you can easily see all the levels.

I'm always here if you need more help.

Arcade Mode - jump to any challenge and tag your favourites to build a playlist to demo to your friends.

I hope you enjoy the game, get to meet the hunter and blow out your candle :)

v2.0 - Arcade Mode + Forward Shader

Version 2 brings lots of improvements to Dimensional.

Arcade Mode

We all love to demo VR to friends, but how do you show them the best bits of a 3 - 6 hour game? Arcade Mode allows you to quickly browse through all the challenges in Dimensional and just play the bits you love. Tag your favourite challenges in the menu to build a playlist for your friends to try.

Challenges are split in to four categories in the menus:
Tutorials - challenges that familiarise new players with the controls.
Experiences - focused on movement and unique moments that most players can cope with.
Puzzles - use Digby to interact and figure out how to progress.
Mini games - Lasers, Blocks, Halloween and Run The Gauntlet.

When playing the Tutorials, Experiences and Puzzles the goal is always to reach the arrow that's visible at all times.

UE4.15 upgrade

The Forward Shader is now used to enable better performance and means MSAA can be used for clearer graphics.

Other changes

Skip ahead - if you get stuck on a level, bring up the menu and choose to skip ahead to the next challenge. You'll get a grade F for the level but it means you can experience all of the game as intended.

Gamepad fix - a workaround has been implemented for gamepads that return incorrect trigger values.

Hide the floor grid - although not recommended, you can optionally hide the floor grid if you feel it brakes the immersion.

Run the Gauntlet - it's supposed to be hard but I've made it a little less punishing.

Lighting - some areas have been brightened up, limbo is now blue rather than black and death doesn't feel quite so horrific.

+ numerous other fixes.

I hope you enjoy the new features. There are some big changes here so please let me know if you hit any problems.

Arcade mode

Quick Update

I'm working on a new patch with some general improvements and am also looking at a new Arcade Mode. The new mode will hopefully allow players to quickly skip to various experiences in the game. This should be a good way to demo the wide variety of VR experiences in Dimensional to your friends without having to play through the whole game for hours. It will also be more ideal for use in Cyber Cafes etc.

I hope to get the new release out in the next week or two.

The Dimensional Game Guide is now available

Let me help you
Are you stuck? That's no good, I want you to enjoy the full game and experience everything I've been working on during this 18 month project :)

I've created a game guide to help you find all the secrets and guide you through some of the more tricky puzzles.
View Game Guide

If you're stuck anywhere not covered by the guide please let me know and I will help you out and maybe extend the guide.

Can you help me?
I hope you're enjoying the game. As you can see by the low number of reviews Dimensional remains largely undiscovered. Please remember to tell your friends about the game to help me make more sales and fund further developments in VR. I have many more unique ideas whirling around my head and would love to make them a virtual reality :)

Dimensional - full release now live

I'm pleased to announce that the full release of Dimensional is now live.

If you played the early access version, I highly recommend starting the game from the beginning. There have been lots of changes over the months.

Thanks to all the people that provided feedback, reported bugs and helped test the game. Watching videos of people playing the game was especially useful too, so thank you for those :)

I hope you enjoy it. If you do, please tell your friends and help me spread the word about my indie game.

Dimensional is looking for beta testers - get your name in the credits level

As we approach the full release of Dimensional I'm looking for volunteers to play through the entire game and try to find all the secrets. In return you'll be listed in the credits level as an official beta tester.

Getting the level of difficulty right is very hard to do when you're working alone. Having designed the levels, the objectives are obvious to me, but may be obscure to everyone else. Any help would be much appreciated in this final stage.

Please only volunteer if you enjoy the game enough to complete the whole experience and have at least 4 hours to spare before the end of the 11th December.

You will need:

  • Oculus Rift or HTC Vive (Oculus Touch / Vive tracked controllers are supported but optional)
  • Minimum spec PC (or better) as defined by Oculus / HTC
  • A minimum of 1.2m x 50cm of space with the long side approaching the camera
  • At least 4 hours to spare before the end of the 11th December

Please don't try to play the entire game in one session. Plan to have a number of games with breaks in between.

The plan

You can start by playing through the current game. If you've already played, please start again as all levels have changed.

I will release an early version of the final 3 levels to the beta testers first thing on the 10th giving you the weekend to complete them.

If you get stuck, use the beta tester's forum for help and I will give you some tips so you can carry on.

Before the end of the weekend please let me know:

  • If you managed to finish the game
  • An estimate of how long it would take someone to complete the game who hadn't played it before.
  • Which levels you failed to find all the hidden messages / areas (as identified on the level select screen)
  • Any bugs you find. Don't spend time trying to break things, just play as you normally would so you have time to finish the game.
  • If any parts were too frustrating, and make suggestions on how your objective could have been made clearer.
  • Generally anything that spoiled the experience for you.

Please volunteer using the online form

Thank you

Oculus Touch Support + important fixes and improvements

Oculus Touch

Native Oculus Touch support is live in Dimensional. Remember to pick the Oculus option when launching in Steam. Gamepad support is still intact together with support for a single tracking camera.

Don't worry about tracking camera placements

Dimensional has supported room-scale style gameplay since the DK2 so you shouldn't have to worry too much about tracking camera positions and controller occlusion with the Oculus Touch. The gameplay generally encourages you to face forward but if you're exploring and hide your controllers from the cameras, the targeting will temporarily become gaze based (identified by an eye icon popping up), so just carry on playing. As soon as the controllers can be tracked, you can use them for targeting again.

If your camera placements are far from ideal, another option is to face your cameras, then use the FPS-style controls to rotate the world, or hold down your teleport button and rotate your grid before you jump to ensure you arrive with the point-of-interest in front of you.

Other changes

Important bug fix. If you played Dimensional for a length of time in one session the HRTF enabled sounds would stop working just leaving the traditional sounds, so you could have been missing quite a bit of audio. This has now been fixed.

More dialogue is now included in the game.

Loads of smaller changes and fixes have been added to the game. Even if you've played it, I recommend starting again when the full release comes out.

What's next

I'm working on the final level and the full release is on its way this month (if testing goes OK).

Progress update

I'm now working on the final level of Dimensional and we are drawing closer to the full release.

The plan

  • Nov - Release patch with support for Oculus Touch
  • Dec - Final beta testing
  • Dec - Release version 1.0.0

Version 1.0.0 will bring 3 new levels, more narrative and general improvements.

If you know of any bugs or parts of the game that were too hard or frustrating, please let me know so I can fix them for the final release.

Thanks for supporting the project during the early access stage. If you've enjoyed playing the game so far, please encourage your friends to add it to their wishlist in preparation for the final release. Thank you.

Patch 0.3.7 fixes problems starting the game

The patch released today should fix two problems for Oculus Rift users.

* The game now doesn't crash when loaded without the "-vr" command line option
* You should not see a message about not owning the game.

If anyone else still has problems please try uninstalling then reinstalling the game to ensure the change from 32bit to 64bit copied all required files.
