Some changes are now live that I hope will make it more enjoyable for you.
1) If you are off the floor when the laser passes, you should clear it. Previously I used a collision detection where your feet where calculated (poorly) to be. Cheating will still fail, such as standing on a chair, because it constantly checks your height. You will probably be able to jump over them while jumping forwards now too. I've left the advice to jump straight up because that's the safest way to complete the task.
2) If you just don't want to be noisily jumping around or have a low ceiling, or a bad leg, you can now disable jumping in the new "Gameplay" menu option.
There's not going to be lots of jumping in the game, but I felt it was an interesting mechanism to try and hopefully with the two options everyone should be able to finish and enjoy it.
I would be interested to hear from some of the players who struggled to see if it feels OK now.
I'd like to keep experimenting with new ideas, situations and gameplay mechanisms during Early Access. I hope that's what you want as well. Your feedback is important to help me get it right, or throw it out.
Patch 0.2.0.5
One of my players is still having problems with his Vive controller when shooting Digby. I'm trying this patch to make the right trigger fire slightly earlier to see if it helps.
I'll be reworking the Vive trigger coding next week, but please let me know if this makes things any worse or better for any of you in the meantime.
Quick patch 0.2.0.4
Some players have experienced issues with their Vive controllers not firing Digby unless they manually make sure the trigger is fully released. I've reduced the sensitivity a little on the trigger to try and prevent this, together with some other changes. My controllers work fine, so can the people who experienced this please let me know if it resolves the issue or if further tuning is required.
In the laser jumping in level 3 I've added a sign to tell you to jump straight up to get over the lasers. Jumping forwards wasn't intended due to safety concerns and also makes it much harder to clear due to the way the jump mechanism works. Short term there is also a little debug box that shows where your feet are so you can see how the system is calculating your jump height. You will also see indicators in front of you showing your height and current position. I'd like to hear if it doesn't seem to work right for you.
Thanks to everyone who has provided feedback or bug reports. I will be spending next week implementing fixes and improvements.
I hope you're all enjoying the game.
If you are, remember to tell your friends
If you're not, please tell me what I need to fix :)
