Well it’s been quite the week here at Codemasters! On Tuesday we released our second FIA World Rallycross Update, which as well as adding three new cars, a new track and new weather conditions also added live multiplayer to DiRT Rally!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IoJQcBcfh2s
We’re glad so many of you are enjoying our latest update, we’ve been busy reading all of your feedback and seeing what we can implement into the game to make it even better.
I’ll hand you over to DiRT Rally’s Chief Game Designer for news on how we’re going to use that feedback to address some of your concerns and make the online experience even better!
Kick it with @Kick_Up
Well that week went fast. Finally getting our PvP update out there and getting to see you guys racing against each other has been really cool, however you pretty quickly found some fairly major oversights on our part and for that I am sorry.
When we play the game in the studio it is under very different conditions to how you guys play at home and so when we are doing our multiplayer tests we are often sat in a room without headsets on so that we can chat to each other about problems with collisions, point scoring and race rules.
Also, we never needed to set up a private lobby because we could always find the session we were looking for so we didn’t really notice that that setting had been omitted. This was a design oversight and one that is especially frustrating as we have had the option available in our previous titles whether on console or PC. When you guys started playing the new update you spotted this stuff almost immediately and quite rightly called us out on it so we are working as quickly as we can to get this stuff patched in as soon as possible.
I’m not going to make excuses but this is one of the cool things about early access. While in the past we would have hammered all this stuff and got it right for the final release of the game now we haven’t had as much time to implement the features but we can be a lot more flexible about fixing stuff.
As always I want to say a big thank you to all of you who have provided quick and useful feedback on these issues. It makes our lives a lot easier and means we can get to the core of the issue and get stuff sorted that much faster.
It’s not just Push to Talk, Muting and Private lobbies that we are working on. We also have some extra Lobby Options that we are going to include for Online Custom Championships. We are planning to add options to allow you to ban assists from your session, change the order of the grid and decide whether collisions occur or not so these should help you customise your lobbies to suit your style of racing a bit more.
New in v0.7
This month we introduced online competitive play to DiRT Rally which lets you go head to head against your friends. But we also added some other changes including:
A new World RX track – Hell, Norway
New Rallycross drivers including, Liam Doran and Petter Solberg
Wet weather for all Rallycross tracks
Three new cars: DS3, MINI Countryman Rallycross and Subaru WRX STI
Some new advanced gamepad options
Added a “Very Early” option for your Co-Driver calls
A frankly amazing set of Hints and Tips for you to read during loading screens
Removed the additional time penalty when the Off Track Reset Countdown expires and upped the limit on the timer
We’ll now show you your ‘Fastest lap’ onscreen for an entire Rallycross Event
Clutch Override which will give you the ability to use your clutch to override the automatic gearbox clutch

https://youtu.be/IoJQcBcfh2s
And that’s not all! On top of all that goodness above we’ve also made the following additions and changes to DiRT Rally.
Just like every time we release an update there are a few things which we know won’t be perfect, don’t forget that DiRT Rally is in Early Access still and we need you to help us polish it.
We’re confident that everything should run smoothly and thank you to all our players who have been helping us test this latest update. So if you spot something that isn’t quite right or working as you expect be sure to swing by either the Codemasters Forums or Steam Forums to let us know.
As ever thank you for your support so far, we know we say this a lot but we really are grateful of all the feedback to date.
Next month we head to Finland for the fastest and most exciting update yet.
Don’t Cut. Be Brave.
DiRT Rally Road Book – 21/08/15
Original post https://www.dirtgame.com/uk/blog/4969
Greetings people of DiRT, it is I Lee your friendly neighbourhood community manager and it must be Friday because it’s time for the DiRT Rally Road Book!
This week has been pretty hectic (though I seem to say that every week), the next update is almost ready to go, we’ve been looking forward to the rest of the year and pulling apart all of the feedback we’ve had since launch. OK so we know we do that a lot but this time it was a little different, we recently passed the half way mark for DiRT Rally and it was important for us to see how you guys felt we’re doing.
The other side of us taking stock of where we are was to find out what the next things are we need to look at. Since launch we’ve had more ideas from you than we could fill six games with, some have been trends of the week while others have been consistently high on the wishlist. It’s those things I’ve been busy collecting up to pass on to the team and we’ll have more info on which ideas made the latest cut soon.
Speaking of the team I’ll now hand you over to DiRT Chief Game Designer @Kick_Up for a look at what we’re working on right now.
Kick It With Kick_Up
Well, we are almost done with our v0.7 PvP Update and it’s looking good. There are some minor issues that have been picked up by our Community Testers that we will be looking to fix in the coming weeks but the overall package is pretty much there. The racing is going to be close and you’ll need to think fast when taking your jokers but it really has taken the FIA World RX content to the next level and we are confident that you will have a lot of fun racing against each other. We certainly have.
Elsewhere in the studio we’ve continued working on the up and coming Finland stages and they are really looking good. The co driver calls are in and their timing is being refined meaning that we can really attack every crest and jump. For stages to feel great you also need great cars and we have a pair of absolute legends lined up for the Flying Finland update. I know a few of you have been speculating as to what these are and we’ll let you know as soon as we can but having got hands on with them over the last few days I can say that they are very exciting.
Perhaps the most exciting thing about them is that they are being made using our latest vehicle tech. We’ve been working on this stuff in the background for a while now but these will be our first rally cars that will have the full suite of improvements. The plan is to layer these improvements into all the rally cars that have already been released. More on these updates to come but suffice to say it is going to be a significant step forward once we get these into the game.
Patch Me Up
I know we don’t normally do this but we wanted to give you the drop on some of the other things making it into the next patch, these aren’t live in the game yet and this isn’t the complete list so be sure to keep an eye out for the full patch notes when it goes live.
Clutch Override which will allow you to override the automatic clutch (allowing for clutch kicking)
Optimised Lydden Hill so that it’s not causing your PC to chug quite so much
Graphical improvements to Holjes, Wales and Pikes.
Screenshot of the Week
This week’s SoTW is from WRAITH1966 and we don’t usually share screenshots featuring mods but this one was just too good.
Tweets of the Week
This week we asked you to send us your advice for new DiRT Rally players, if you are new to DiRT Rally welcome to the team! Hopefully these pearls of wisdom from our veterans will be of use.
Marek did his best to match Ogiers on-board to some DiRT Rally gameplay and got it pretty spot on!

There you go another week of DiRT Rally done and hopefully with enough news to keep /u/deadstump entertained! Like I said keep an eye out next week for details on the next update and for the love of all that is holy make sure you watch this week’s round of the FIA World Rallycross Championship from Hell. You’ll find live stream info here and TV listing info here.
Be Brave.

Original post https://www.dirtgame.com/uk/blog/4961
Another week passes and we’re another week closer our next World RX update featuring a collection of new cars, a new circuit and the ability to race online against your friends but we’ve got a load of work to do before that!
The biggest thing we’ve got going on at the moment is our Beta PVP testing; now we know what you’re thinking... Why are we beta testing something that is in Early Access? That’s because we want to make sure it works as well it can and our team of expert test drivers have been busy helping us buff out the dents and get us as ready as we can be. If you happen to be one of our test drivers thank you.
As ever I’ll now hand you over to DiRT’s Chief Game Designer Paul Coleman for an update from the studio.
Kick it with Kick_Up
The improvements we decided to make to our Finland stages are now well under way and I’m glad to say that they have made a significant improvement to the way the stages feel. It’s now way more important to listen to the calls and position the car accordingly if you want to maintain a decent pace while avoiding any massive moments. I also took to the D-Box again this week to get the rest of the Finland co driver calls recorded. They are now in the process of getting edited and placed in game.
We’ve been doing more PvP testing in the studio and we still have a fair amount to tidy up. The process has been made a lot easier by the fact that we have some of our DiRTy Gossipers helping us out every evening. We’ll be hitting it hard over the next week to try and get as much fixed as possible before we eventually set the pack live.
As for the AI boot camp... those guys are really starting to apply their knowledge now and the results are looking promising. They should be able to offer you a much better challenge in the next update but if you are one of those alien types then you’ll probably still give them a kicking.
Now and Then
A great thread popped up on the forums recently talking about the old Colin McRae and DiRT games with a few members sharing screenshots and their memories of our older games. VirtualIceman put together some great comparison shots that are so good we had to share them.
Stepping away from the game and into the real world for just a moment if you happened to miss last weekend’s round of ht FIA World Rallycross in Canada you can catch up with the highlights from the final here.

Tweet of the Week
So you know how some of you picked up on the fact the Subaru didn’t sound quite like a real one? Well that’s because we had some trouble tracking one down to record. Well guess what...
Another week and another DiRT Rally Road Book under the belt, as ever we’ll be back next Friday (it’s our new regular slot) with more DiRTy Gossip.
DiRT Rally Road Book – 07/08/15
Well what a busy week it’s been this week! We’ve seen the launch of our first World RX update, had a livestream, invited a few of you to help us test our PVP update (we need to think of a better name for that), we’ve been watching your videos, published a blog post, read your feedback, tried some new type of daily events and we even managed to get a quick fix out for the weird “press A” crash.
As ever I will now hand you over to the oh so pretty Paul Coleman for an update on what’s going on in the Studio this week.
Kick it with Kick_Up
Thanks bae! Once we’d got all the excitement of the World RX update out of the way we took the time to catch up on the action from Rally Finland this weekend. Watching some of the on board videos has given us a few pointers as to how we can improve the Finland stages that we currently have in production so we are undertaking that work as I write this.
We’ll hopefully be recording the co driver calls for the second Finland route next week. Now back to the Rallycross.
This week marked the first week of our AI boot camp, we’ve been looking at the times you guys have been setting and we are getting a pretty good idea of how much more time we need to get out of them but if you guys are posting on the forums telling us about the AI not being fast enough please make sure that you let us know what sort of lap and race times you are getting so that we can double check that our training is going according to plan.
Last up I’ve been brushing up on my rally theory for a bit of a feature I’m working on. More on that in the coming weeks but it’s starting to come together rather nicely.
DiRT Rally World RX Update
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wEREZTz07Co
At the start of last month we announced our partnership with the FIA World Rallycross Championship and the first of two new World RX updates which will bring the world’s fastest growing motorsport to DiRT Rally.V.0.6 more commonly known as the World RX Update is now live and we’re really excited to be working with the team at the FIA World Rallycross to bring you a choice selection of drivers, cars and some of the best circuits in the calendar.
Everything you need to know about DiRT Rally’s World RX Career
Rallycross is a fantastic motorsport and is immensely popular, so I was really keen to do it justice in our game. As with the Rally and Hillclimb disciplines, we wanted to use DiRT Rally as an opportunity to create the most authentic recreation of the sport that we’ve ever done, so we started by partnering with the FIA World Rallycross Championship.
With this partnership in place, we set about translating all of the elements that make up the sport into our game; the mighty World Rallycross Supercars, the epic 6-a-breast starts, the game-changing Joker laps and most crucially, the full FIA World Rallycross event structure (Qualifying Heats, Semi Finals and the Final).
This first one came in pretty much straight off the bat from SgtBenton and gets top honour this week.
We’ve been sifting through the #RXDiRT hashtag on Twitter too and love what you’ve been sending us in. Keep them coming, here are some of your favourite so far.
Inside Sim Racing get the new guy to take our World RX update for a spin.

And there you have it another busy week at Codemasters, we’re all off to watch this weekend’s round of the FIA World Rallycross Championship in Canada. Follow @FIAWorldRX on Twitter for all the action and we’ll see you next week.
Don’t forget to joker.
DiRT Rally's Teeny Tiny Patch
Hi all,
We just set live a small patch that should stop the game crashing when you press A which was introduced with our World RX update this week.
This was only hitting a small number of people but... You know... That would be pretty annoying.
If you were hit with this bug before and its fixed it please let us know.
If it hasn't please let us know.
If you didn't have this bug before but now you do or if anything else has screwed up... please let us know.
Love you

Another week gone already but what an eventful week it’s been, the World RX beasts have had their final coax of wax and are covered up safe and secure in the service area. That’s right, the DiRT Rally World RX update is coming next week... Try not to scuff our new cars up too much.
Before I pass you over to DiRT Chief Game Designer Paul Coleman we have two important messages for DiRT Rally players upgrading to Windows 10 this week.
First one is to back up your save before upgrading, DiRT Rally does support Steam Cloud Saving but we’d hate for you to get caught out if there was a problem with Steam, your internet connection or your PC.
To back up your save go to this folder on your pc C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\ then look for the folder called 310560. Right click on it, zip it, then put it on a USB stick or somewhere safe just in case. If you need to restore your save just unzip the folder and put it back in the same place.
Next up is something which we’ve only noticed a few people suffer from but if you could help spread the word to those affected that would be awesome. It appears that after upgrading to windows 10 some people can’t launch the game, if this happens to you please follow the following steps:
That’s enough from me, I’ll hand you over to Paul for an update on the news from studio.
Kick It With @KickUp
It’s been a good week here in the studio as we have been wrapping things up for the launch of the FIA World Rallycross Update. A few weeks back I talked about how we were making changes to the rallycross cars based on the feedback we got from the drivers out in Höljes. Well, we have got those changes in and the cars are feeling great. They are a whole load more responsive and we have dialled in the setups so that the cars are much closer to what the drivers expect from their cars.
This has however meant that we had much less time to train and refine our AI drivers so when the pack comes out you may find the you computer opponents are a little bit on the slow side. We’ve opted for a safe approach here ensuring that the AI aren’t overly aggressive and making crazy mistakes but over the coming weeks we’ll be looking at the times that you guys are setting and the way that you are driving and making sure that we retrain our AI so that they can offer you a significantly tougher challenge in the next update.
A new feature we will be adding for this pack is a rear view mirror that operates on all camera views. This is obviously integral to Rallycross as it allows you to keep an eye on the drivers behind you. We had intended this feature to be turned on by default but we found it hits performance pretty hard on mid to low spec machines so we have made the call to turn it off by default. So if you want to give it a go and see if your machine can handle it then make sure you go into the graphics options and turn it on. I think that’s about it from me but I’ll see you soon on the next DiRT Show.
Tweet of the Week
Our friends at Mountune will be at Ford Fair this Sunday and we’ve sent them a massive box of swag to give away. Oh yeah, and you’ll be able to have a sneaky go at our World RX update before the full launch. So head down to Silverstone this weekend and say hi!
