The year is 2048, and the world is plagued with economic downturn, environmental disaster, and societal destabilization. In the United States, natural resource scarcity and severe climate change have led to massive urbanization, with millions of Americans forced to seek new lives among the sprawling steel and concrete of America’s cities. These swelling urban populations, coupled with intense civil unrest, have culminated in greatly increased crime rates, with many cities becoming dense hives of vice and lawlessness. City governments and law enforcement agencies do their best to stem the rising tide of crime, but are often ineffective due to severe corruption and the increasing sophistication of American criminals.
In response, many governments and law enforcement agencies have enacted highly controversial surveillance policies that are seen by the general populace as breaches of privacy. Worse still, police officers are instructed to shoot first and ask questions later, and they are often caught trampling the rights of private citizens in the pursuit of justice. Government corruption and corporate scandals are common in the United States, but the average citizen can do little to combat the unfairness inherent within the system.
Despite severe economic and social woes, the decades leading up to the year 2048 have not been without major scientific and technological innovation. Advancements in medicine have led to the creation of biotechnological implants that can replace or augment human physiology, mobile computing power has reached unprecedented heights, and artificially intelligent robots are able to complete manual tasks with greater efficiency and rapidity than humans ever could. While the world may not have advanced ethically, there has been a great deal of technological progress.
New York City in the year 2048 is very much a microcosm of the rest of the country. Police corruption, economic devastation, and violent crime are commonplace and seemingly irreparable. Meanwhile, skyscrapers soar thousands of feet into the air, an enormous flood wall has been built around the city to protect it from rising sea levels, and self-driving taxis transport New Yorkers to their destinations at all hours of the day. The city has progressed in some ways, while regressing in others. At the start of Disjunction, New York City is teetering on the brink of crisis. A recent surge in violence and the emergence of a sinister drug known as Shard has forced the unpopular mayor of New York City to turn to Bishop-Krauss Incorporated, a controversial defense contractor, for help. Bishop-Krauss has offered to deploy cybernetically enhanced security personnel in New York City to quell the rising crime and restore order to the city’s streets. While the mayor mulls over the situation, many New Yorkers are left to wonder if a virtual police state is a price they are willing to pay in exchange for safety.

We’re super excited to share some of the amazing things that have been happening behind the scenes of Disjunction whilst you’ve been waiting patiently to get your hands on the full game!
As you’ve probably already seen, we’ve got brand new Artwork and Logo for the game and it comes straight from the mind of the legendary Art Director of Deus Ex: Human Revolution and Executive Art Director of Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, Jonathan Jacques-Belletête!
Working in conjunction with the very talented video games illustrator Isago ‘ISA’ Fukuda who brought Jonathan's vision to life, between them they created the amazing new Artwork that you see just below!
"Disjunction explores similar themes to Deus Ex, so I was thrilled to provide some new artistic direction for the game's key art and logo. Partway through the project my little baby came along, and we were lucky enough to find an incredibly talented artist in Isago to help realise my concepts. Isago has done an amazing job, and I am thrilled to have been involved with Disjunction’s development." - Jonathan Jacques-Belletête!
“Working with JJB has been an honour. I’ve always admired his work, so to collaborate with him on Disjunction has been very exciting. I hope players enjoy the art that we have created together." - ISA
"The opportunity to collaborate with Jonathan really has been a dream come true. Not only has Deus Ex been a huge inspiration for us during development, but we are all diehard fans of the series, so to have both him and Isago provide their artistic talent to Disjunction has been fantastic.” - Erwan LeCun, Co-Founder of Ape Tribe Games.
