Devlog #5 Butterfly Effect
Hello Everyone!
Today I want to tell you a little secret about building history in the game. During the gameplay you will face certain choices that act as a butterfly effect...
What decisions you make or what you do during the beginning of the game will determine how David's story ends.
Remember, there are no right or wrong answers. Everytime you make a decision you may wonder if you're doing the right thing or if your actions have any influence. You may think that being kidnapped by a psycho is a lost cause - your survival depends on him. But the reality is that you create your own fate and your decisions affect the gameplay.
I have prepared the game in such a way that once you fulfill certain conditions, you can open various endings with your choices. But remember, they won’t be obvious. Each of the ending covers a different secret about the whole story. Which version will be happy medium? Maybe this all event could've been avoided? Did you help David? Are you happy with your choices?
I leave you with these questions, see for yourself....
Show us your terrifying shadow! Take a photo of it and post it in the comment section in the [url=https://www.facebook.com/dontbeafraidgame/photos/a.1993395437565909/2618143755091071/?type=3
Devlog #4 Gameplay
Hello Everyone!
Today a few words about how the game world is built
I created the game in such a way that the player observes the world from the perspective of the first person. The camera is placed low to create the impression of playing the role of a child.
The same goes for the interaction with objects - a child is not able to perform every task. That's why I tried to avoid interactions that might be too hard for a little boy to do. Sometimes you have to unscrew the valve, break the glass or pull the lever, but nothing is too exaggerated or unrealistic.-
In the game, fear is presented in the form of frightening creatures emerging from the darkness. However, David slowly gets used to the reality around him - the further he goes, the less things he finds strange and terrifying.
Now we may be wondering - will David have a normal life after all this? Or will he share the same fate as Franklin Deagon? Surely seeing things like that doesn't have a positive effect on the human mind...
More of dark secrets will be revealed soon...

Devlog #3 Characters
Hello Everyone!
Today I want to introduce you to some characters from my game…
In the beginning, the psychopath, Franklin Deagon, was supposed to be a pedophile. But we came to the conclusion that it didn’t fit his character.
Don’t Be Afraid tells the tragic story of the family terrorized by a psychopath. However, the torturer is not a stranger, he is a family member, a brother, a husband and a father. The game intends to show what consequences the untreated mental disorder can cause and what effects the mental state of one family member has on the others. How much can each of them sacrifice to keep the family together?
Franklin Deagon
is a dangerous psychopath, who’s also a biology teacher. He’s unpredictable and very devoted to his work. Franklin is the one that kidnapped David - the main character of the game.
Carl Deagon
Franklin’s brother was the one that stood up to him. If you’ve been paying close attention, you can suppose that Carl’s story didn’t got a happy ending.
Lydia Deagon
is Franklin’s daughter. You would probably think that Franklin is able to control his whims, that he would never hurt his little daughter. Unfortunately, like other children, Lydia also became a victim of Franklin. Luckily she managed to survive, but she paid dearly for it...
More of dark secrets will be revealed soon...

It's time to reveal some of the secrets of Level Design.
I have modeled many locations on real places that I remember from my childhood, e.g. a school or a basement. At that time everything seemed bigger and scarier…
It was important to design the levels in the game in such a way as to show both realism and the way a child perceives the world. Some objects are larger, others are of the same size to illustrate how the child remembers certain places, how the eyes of the imagination can exaggerate some of them.
Franklin the psycho's house was also designed in such a way that the player, in the role of a child, feels crushed by the size of this place. A huge basement and long corridors on each floor - in a child's imagination everything seems to be bigger than it really is.
Wait for more dark secrets soon....

Devlog #1 The Introduction
Hello Everyone!
Welcome in the first part of the DevLog series of Don’t Be Afraid!
Today, I would start from the beginning, and tell you a story of an idea for the game and about taking the first steps in creating it.
This fragment is from my (game's author's) private notes:
“The first idea for the name of the game was “They're Watching”. The idea for the game came to my mind when one day I had reached for a book I read as a child. It was about a boy who lived in an orphanage. Later, I wanted to use this idea differently.
The story of a boy being kidnapped by a psychopath seemed interesting to me, and I've decided to base my first game on it. I wanted the story told in Don't Be afraid through the eyes of a child to make him shiver and give him food for thought. Several times, I've heard a story about small children kidnapped for the organ. I wondered how such a child feels. Fear... the horror... in dark, cramped rooms, the imagination works harder. I was going to show it, in Don't Be Afraid.“
