Retiring DON'T STOP, YOU'LL DIE!

Hey Everyone,

Jumping on here to give you a bit of an update for DON'T STOP, YOU'LL DIE!
After a year of trying to get the new update for the game out, multiple engine changes and full code-base overhauls I have decided to begin the process of getting DON'T STOP pulled from steam.

The project started as a little game to learn to release a game on steam. I gave myself a harsh 6 week development cycle deadline, which resulted in an absolute spaghetti code mess. I originally intended to put the game up as a learning experience; no one would play it, and i'd move on to the next thing - but, people played it and requesting features, content and reported bugs, but with the state the game was in it because increasingly difficult with each update to add content without severely breaking the game.

I burnt myself out, and after a hiatus I decided I'd re-make the entire game from scratch and release an overhaul update, but by that time, the passion was already long gone.

I want nothing more than to try and push through and finish the overhaul update, but i simply don't have it in me anymore. It's no longer a game that i can be proud of.

I've learnt A LOT from this whole development experience and I'll be taking my new knowledge into the next game project, so I can do a steam release the correct way next time.

I'm sorry if this has disappointed anyone who enjoyed the game, but I'll do better with the quality and content for the next game.

v0.1.3 Hotfix

Fixed an issue with the run lost screen not correctly displaying the player's stats from that run.

DON'T STOP, YOU'LL DIE! v0.1.3 Minor Update


GAMEPLAY:
- Mark the Merc now has a special RMB ability - it's a damn airstrike!

WEAPONS:
- Added a Revolver; it's a fine weapon for a cowboy!

ITEM SHOP:
- Removed the "Stink Bomb" item due to an animation bug.
- Removed the "Tombstone" item due to it's functioanlity being inconsistant.

AUDIO:
- Removed Enemy Shot sfx due to consistent audio bug.
- Fixed weapon shot sfx overlapping (this has created an audio bug when multiple fire rate buffs are stacked - I am currently working on a fix for this).

UI:
- Fixed a bug that prevented the player from quitting to the main menu from the game over screen.
- Tweaked the HUD to allow for the character ability slider.
- Changed the way the remaning enemies alive counter is displayed.
- Changed the Game Win and Game Over UI to look a little cleaner.

DON'T STOP, YOU'LL DIE! 0.1.2 Minor Update!

This was a fairly small update, with the main focus of adding more to the options menu, as well as some minor weapon and item shop tweaks.

The changes are as follows:

GAMEPLAY:
- Enemy sprites now flash when damage is dealt to them.
- Enemy Contact Damage and Bullet Damage lowered.
- Fixed a bug that was causing enemies to deal double damage.

[Weapon Specific]
- Deagle damaged and accuracy buffed.
- All Weapon Damage and Accuracy has been more thoroughly tested and balanced.
- Reduced recoil amounts for all guns.

ITEM SHOP:
- Fixed a bug that sometimes caused the shop to not reroll after each round.
- Fixed a bug that sometimes caused the shop closing animation to cut out half way through playing.
- Reduced the cost of re-rolling the item shop.

MISC:
- All in-game sprites scale correctly to fit the selected aspect ratio.
- Fixed a bug causing the sound effects to not play correctly.
- Fixed a bug sometimes that stopped the player from quitting the game from the pause menu.

UI:
- Options menu overhaul:
[Video]
- Fullscreen toggle.
- Window Resolution Sizing.
- Graphics Quality (This doesn't do much currently, but the foundation is now there for more stuff).

[Audio]
- Master Volume Slider.
- Music Volume Slider.
- SFX Volume Slider.

[Controls]
- Keyboard Control Remapping.

[Accessibility]
- Scanlines effect toggle.
- Screenshake toggle.

v0.1.1 Hotfix

Quickly fixed a bug where the player could still take damage and die from a projectile after the wave has ended and the item shop is open. This has been fixed.

The First Don't Stop, You'll Die! Update

This is the first minor update for Don't Stop, You'll Die! I've listened to player feedback and worked towards making the game more enjoyable! Listed below are some of the changes and additions that can be found in the new update!

GAMEPLAY:
- Dash Meter: So the player now has visual feedback as to when they can dash again.
- Updated In Game HUD: Now the current playable character's name and portrait are placed in the bottom left of the screen. The Player Portrait Dynamically changes depending on how much health the player has lost.
- Contact damage dealt by enemies lowered slightly.
- Enemy coin drop amount tweaked.
- Player can now dash through enemies.

ITEM SHOP:
- All items now have a shop icon.
- Shop opening and closing animations now play correctly.
- Shop rerolls triggers a "shake" animation on the buyable buttons
- Shop rerolls now randomly changes the dice face sprite to a different number.
- "Quick Shot" Item Removed
- 6 NEW items.

MISC:
- You can now join the discord community via the game's main menu.
