Donut Dodo Soundtrack Out Now!

2025 and beyond

Hi everyone,

It’s been a while, so here’s the latest on what’s going on!
Let’s start with the fun stuff.

Pricing:

To continue delivering high-quality gaming experiences, I will be adjusting the price of all arcade titles to better reflect the value and effort behind them.

Starting early 2025, all titles will be priced at $7.99 USD (or your local currency equivalent). This adjustment will apply across all stores and platforms.

On the bright side, this change allows for higher seasonal discounts and even better bundle deals, so keep an eye out for those!

Soundtracks:

Unrelated to the price update (though potentially beneficial too) is the news that I’ll soon be releasing game soundtracks as downloadable content (DLC). This is something many of you have been requesting for a while, and I’m happy to finally make it happen.

Starting in early 2025, soundtracks will be available on the store pages for all my games, except Donut Dodo. This also means that future ports of Donut Dodo, most notably for legacy consoles, will feature a completely new soundtrack!

Donut Dodo Updates:

While Donut Dodo is content complete and will remain so, I had planned to bring over some quality-of-life improvements from Cash Cow DX, like a practice mode and additional options.

Unfortunately, updating the game to the latest engine version failed miserably, and after several months of effort, the project is currently on hold. I haven’t given up, though, and I’ll revisit this in the near future and look for alternative solutions (including rewriting the game without an engine).

2025 and Beyond:

There’s so much exciting stuff on the horizon and 2025 is shaping up to be a fantastic year for arcade gaming! While most of my projects remain under wraps for now, I can share that my upcoming party arcade game, Looney Landers, is progressing nicely.

Mark your calendars: the game is on track for release on February 5th, 2025.
If you haven’t already, feel free to wishlist it here!

Thanks for your continued support, and as always, take care!

Coming soon: Looney Landers

Following Donut Dodo and Cash Cow DX, Looney Landers is the third title in the Class of 1983 arcade trilogy.

Looney Landers is a short and goofy classic arcade party game, for 1-2 players. Compete against friends, family, or the CPU to claim the top spot on the leaderboards in this score-chasing frenzy.

The game combines elements from Sky Diver (Atari, 1978), Sky Skipper (Nintendo, 1981) and Peggle (PopCap, 2007) to deliver an utterly wonky gameplay experience.

You can wishlist Looney Landers here.

Thank you for the support!

Donut Dodo 1.39 has landed!

Game update

So, version 1.39 of Donut Dodo has landed!
What does that mean?

Well, from a cosmetic point of view, there have been no changes.
But under the hood, there have been many fixes and code optimizations.
The game should now also support most if not all current gen arcade sticks.

Trading Cards

Other than that, Trading Cards and other goodies are now finally available.
You have been requesting these repeatedly, and rightly so!
Sorry for taking forever to get them done. Better late than never.

Some of the goodies can be accessed directly via the Points Shop here:
Donut Dodo - Points Shop
Cards and other rare items will drop during gameplay.

Steam Deck

This is also a good opportunity to address the Steam Deck issues some players have been experiencing.
One player kindly got in touch to say that disabling the Steam Performance Overlay solved all freezing issues on game start, as this seems to be impacting the renderer.

In other words, the game is fully compatible with the Deck, as long as the Performance Overlay is disabled.

That’s it for now.
Thanks to all of you for playing Donut Dodo.
Happy gaming, trading and collecting!

v1.33 - Best wishes to all of you!

Hey everyone,

Here comes the last update of 2022, just in time for the holiday season.
Nothing ground-breaking, but a number of little issues and quirks have been addressed and fixed for an overall better experience.

Thanks again for the support, your kind reviews and for keeping arcade games alive together.

More news will follow in the new year.
Until then, best wishes to all of you and happy holidays!

v1.31 - New Arcade Bezels, Fixes & Optimizations

There have been a couple of recent updates to Donut Dodo, so it's about time to list what is new or what issues have been addressed.

Bezel:
Most notably, from a visual point of view, the game has received an illustrated 80s style arcade bezel. To accompany it, new bezel options have been added to the settings menu, where you can choose between different designs or turn them off altogether.

Weekly Challenge:
The weekly challenge was not always resetting correctly, to be in synch with the online leaderboards. This has been addressed and hopefully fixed for good.

Arcade Shortcuts:
Many are playing Donut Dodo on their arcade cabinet, and have been requesting that "Add Credit" and "1P Start" are mapped to keys "5" and "1" respectively, like in MAME. This should have been straightforward, but the main menu had to be rebuilt for this to work correctly. The feature is now fully implemented.

Optimizations:
Most players will likely not notice this, but the game now uses 50% less RAM and 20% less CPU power, making it more snappy and responsive on older hardware.

Other than that, some minor fixes were worked on here and there, for an overall better experience.

Keep those amazing scores coming! The world record is now just under 400K!
Thanks again for all your kind feedback, and happy gaming with Donut Dodo!
