DEMO Available - DOOMBLADE Wants To Hear You Scream!
GREETINGS GLOOMLINGS,
We come bearing another message from the almighty DOOMBLADE. It has deigned to let you wield it once again during the Steam Scream Fest! DOOMBLADE relishes in the screams of those who wronged it, and so we ask you to provide it with a feast of corpses during this new demo period ♥
What is DOOMBLADE?
New here? DOOMBLADE welcomes you. DOOMBLADE (the game, not the sword, it gets confusing sometimes) is a lightning-fast Metroidvania where your main mode of transportation is slicing and dicing up your pathetic enemies. Journey through diverse worlds as you go on a quest to unlock DOOMBLADE's dormant powers and enact vengeance upon its enemies.
How to play?
You can download the demo during the Steam Scream Fest (October 25th - November 1st). Make sure you take the time to play the demo — it'll only be available during the fest, though there will be more opportunities in the future!
We also highly recommend using a keyboard and mouse to play DOOMBLADE, as the game is best enjoyed with pinpoint accuracy.
DOOMBLADE was pleased with your feedback and the support you've shown us over the past week. That is why, in its infinite grace, it has allowed us to extend our demo period until next week! If you did not get a chance to play before, you will have until Monday September 5th to check out the first iteration of our demo!
DOOMBLADE - Release Window Reveal + Gamescom Demo Available Now!
GREETINGS, GLOOMLINGS
DOOMBLADE is at Gamescom, and to celebrate, it has decided that you mortals are getting a chance to wield it for just a little while. Until Gamescom ends (August 28th), you can play the DOOMBLADE demo from the comfort of your own home!
And that's not all! In its infinite grace, DOOMBLADE has allowed us to share with you that the game will be fully releasing in Q2 2023!
The Demo
What's in the demo, you ask? Well, it all begins by freeing DOOMBLADE from the chains that bind it. After that, you'll go on a journey through three different worlds to slay those who would stand in DOOMBLADE's way, ending with an awesome mini-boss fight!
Sounds good, right? You can check out the DOOMBLADE demo yourself until the end of Gamescom (August 28th). If you miss out, don't worry! There will be other opportunities in the future.
It's been a little over a month since we revealed DOOMBLADE to the world together with Iceberg Interactive. That's why we wanted to let you all know that they've got a big sales event going on with up to 90% off on a bunch of cool games!
But that's not all, we also want to take you on a short trip behind the scenes of DOOMBLADE.
Developer Diary
First, a little bit about us, and our vision for the game. We're firm believers in our motto, classic games, modern mechanics, so what better genre to tackle than the beloved Metroidvania? Check out our Dev Diary below to learn more about us, and what we want DOOMBLADE to be.
DOOMBLADE's past
Of course, we've gone through quite a few revisions while designing the game and its protagonists. Gloom Girl, for example, has gone through a bunch of make-overs.
This one is back from before she was even called Gloom Girl. Aptly named 'Tongue Demon', this thing was a little... well, tongue-ey. As you can tell, DOOMBLADE itself also looks quite a bit different here. We liked the look of the actual blade, but the hilt and grip were a little bland.
This is from a little later when we began experimenting with giving Gloom Girl tentacle-like appendages to grip DOOMBLADE with. Though this design didn't quite make it, you can still see its influence in the final version of Gloom Girl. DOOMBLADE also didn't quite work here. It was pretty, but was it DOOM-ey? Not really.
Speaking of DOOMBLADE, here's an older design of the blade itself. We liked this one quite a bit, but it lacked character -- like, literal character. DOOMBLADE is a sentient sword, and this one doesn't really shout "I'm a living sword" like DOOMBLADE should. Still, some parts of this design made it into the game, like the runes that show you the powers that DOOMBLADE holds.
That's all for now! We've got a lot more concept art to share in the future, though.
