Welcome to our biggest patch since day 1. We have been working on this update for a long time and we are happy to share it with you. Check out the details from below.
New Backgrounds are here!
This was something that majority of our players were asking for so we finally did it. From now on, you will be playing at 9 different backgrounds among all levels. We have divided backgrounds into 3 categories:
Not only this, you can also use these new backgrounds at the Level Editor too! So go and create your very own levels with brand new images.
Level Editor is getting ready for Nintendo Switch & Xbox One
As you know Doughlings: Arcade is coming for Nintendo Switch and Xbox One soon. So we have implemented some new features to the Level Editor as a preparation.
* Publishing new level steps have been changed. We have decided to review every level submission starting with this update to avoid any content that may be offensive for other players. Levels will be published after our team approves.
* Platform icons have been added. After Xbox One and Switch versions are out, you will see who is playing or creating at which platform.
* New hints have been added for the mouse control.
Also, we have fixed some bugs as below.
* New targets will come from above if there are less than 25 targets on the screen.
* You can now navigate between tabs and design screen with "left and right buttons" at the level editor.
* The bug which mutes target has been fixed.
* The bug which blocks the navigation when you click background or mission selection has been fixed.
We hope you like these changes. We will keep working on improving Doughlings: Arcade in every way in the upcoming weeks. Until then, farewell!

Doughlings is Coming for Nintendo Switch and Xbox One
Let us dive into the topic right away. Doughlings: Arcade is coming for Nintendo Switch and Xbox One. And the best part is: it is sooner than ever. đ
A New Home for Doughlings: Arcade
As you all know Doughlings: Arcade has been released on Steam couple of days ago. We got pretty good feedback from players and in the upcoming days and weeks, we know things will be much better. But now a new journey begins. We have been working on obtaining developer kits and trying to figure out the development process of consoles. Yesterday, we have finally managed to play Doughlings on Nintendo Switch and it felt just like home. With its great portability and design, Switch owners will experience Doughlings: Arcade as it should be.
And Xbox One version is also in good hands, thanks to Alican. We have a really good working build and getting closer to an alpha version pretty soon. Actually, we should thanks Xbox ID team here because they have not only sent us the developer kit in a really short time but also helps a lot during the development. We can easily say that they are so friendly to Indie studios and we are so excited to see our game on the Xbox Live soon.
Get Your Controllers Ready
We donât have an exact release date yet but we will do our best to release both versions at the end of June or early July. As the Steam version, we want to bring you the best brick breaker experience with best visuals, smooth controls and of course bug-free. We will make more announcements and share more news in the upcoming days so stay tuned. Also if you are from a media company or an influencer/Youtuber to play and share our game during the release period, donât forget to contact us.
See you on the next blog!

The Homestretch
And here we are, the homestretch and a couple of days away from the release date May 8th. After months of dedication and coffee consumption, it feels so great to see the end. But we know that it is just a new beginning.
From very early days of the development, we always wanted to achieve one thing: a new approach to breakout and brick breaker genres while respecting their core mechanics. As we see more players experience the game at the preview version of Doughlings, it is clear that we have successfully fulfilled that task.
But we did it with YOUR help. Doughlings: Arcade has been in the closed beta stage for almost 2 months now. During this period, we have learned many things by observing testers and getting feedback from them. We have:
* Improved in-game tutorials and made them clearer for new users.
* Added a mouse control option.
* Created a brand end game trailer (which can be seen only if you finish all 75 levels)
* Fixed lots of bugs, including some critical ones.
* Added 2 new languages (Chinese and Japanese will be available with the release)
And so on...
With this successful closed beta period, Doughlings: Arcade has become a better game and we are very proud of the end result. That's why we want to thank to all our friends, volunteers and press who played and shared our game with the world.
If you are an arcade fan or looking for a game to test your reflexes, or maybe someone that misses the old-school games, don't forget to check it out. We are sure that you will find something that you will certainly enjoy. :)
See you on May 8th!
When Bricks Come to Life: Targets
This week we want to to give you an insight look into the targets and the design approaches behind it. Let's begin.
I thought this game was a brick breaker?
It is, but with some new stuff. First of all, you are not hitting bricks. Most of your targets are folks of Doughlings and they all have different sickness levels and results. You will encounter some non-organic targets as well but those are also not the bricks you have seen before.
Like Morpheus and his personas, we wanted to create something new that hasn't been tried before. By this design approach, we have taken the full control of the player and added some "unpredictable" mechanics into the game. Let's us explain it with the Killer.
The Killer is one of the most unpredictable targets in Doughlings: Arcade. He can teleport all around the map and attack one of the Doughlings to turn them into stone. This creates a surprise mechanic during the gameplay and increases the tension. By this, player focuses to take him out instead of healing other targets.

Meteorites are one of the first unfamiliar targets that you will encounter. Normally, the player has to hit everything on the screen to heal them. But this time you may think of avoiding it since it increases the sickness level of targets around it.
And the last example is the Psycho. As you may guess, he is a bit crazy and loves to push things down. Like the Killer, he also doesn't have a predictable route and creates a challenge for the player to avoid fallen targets while forcing to take him out.
Does skill matter?
Of course it does. Let's get into it with another example.

With wormholes, your ball will teleport and allow you to play in a different way. You may use them to your advantage and reach places before clearing the entrance. But of course, you have to be careful with any unexpected turns. Check out the ending of the video for a great example.

Mines are also there to mostly help you. Sometimes you will struggle to heal harder targets and use mines to help you out. It may decrease the total points you make but greatly increase your survival chances.
Are there more targets?
Among 90 different levels, you will face 14 different targets. Each of them will create a new challenge in carefully designed levels. These levels will have different difficulties based on the number of targets and the way we put them there.
So when you start playing Doughlings, we suggest you to not to focus on clearing the level only but also use different tactics with the help of these targets. As you progress to later levels, you will realize that the game is getting harder but also rewarding. See you on the next blog!
The Sound of Doughlings: Arcade
When you are developing a game, you focus on many things like the gameplay, graphics, story or characters. By today's standards, the sound and music are also one of them. Without the right tune and sound effects, it is nearly impossible to capture the player. Today we will talk about how we have approached this side of Doughlings: Arcade.
Yupppiiiiiiiii
The story of our game is all about the Doughlings folks. They have been poisoned by a meteor crash and now each one of them has a different personality. To show the player how they really feel, Serkan Ăzay, Creative Director of Hero Concept decided to record unique sounds for every Doughlings in the game. And the result is just hilarious. Check out the example sounds from below.

These are just one of the targets and their reactions during the gameplay. Besides their visual differences, we wanted to give them another identity with unique voices. This helped us a lot to achieve the tone of Doughlings: Arcade we have now.
Letâs Do This!
Not only targets but personas had to be identified as well. To achieve it, we have worked with Richard Anderson, the one and only âNokia, Connecting Peopleâ voice. Since this is a game based on different personas, they must appear with a style, right? So we did that and the result is below.

As you see for all 7 personas, there is one unique call out when the player morphs into them. Of course, we didnât work with Mr. Anderson just for persona sounds. We have recorded some funny lines as well just to play with the player. đ Check out the example from below.

And the Music
Of course, you canât make a game without well-crafted songs. Thanks to BaĆar Ănder, we have managed to capture the 80s funky tunes and combine them with retro sounds. You will hear 5 different, totally unique songs in Doughlings: Arcade including one for each world, one for the main menu and one for the level editor. You can check out the Ruins soundtrack from below.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rTBvOhudTwA
With all of these and more, we believe you will enjoy Doughlings: Arcade not by its visuals and gameplay but also the sound behind it as well. Donât forget to add our game to your wishlist and see you soon on the next blog!
Doughlings: Arcade â Control is Everything
When you design a game, one of the first things you do is to decide how players will play your game. Will it be the mouse, keyboard+mouse, keyboard only, gamepad, or maybe all of them? It may not seem like an important question at first but when you dig in, it just becomes the most critical part of the process.
What others offered?
When we first started working on Doughlings, the first thing we did was to check out all other breakout and brick breaker games since the Arkanoid and Breakout. There are many successful games in this genre and to be honest, control options they offered so far didn't age that well. The reason is of course the simplicity of the game itself. You just move stick and bounce a ball, how complicated it can be? Well, it can and as a dev, we have to offer the best control options in the market.
One of the first issues that we have seen from community comments was the lack of gamepad support. Because there aren't many breakout games on consoles, devs decided to go with keyboard or mouse supports only. There are a few titles here and there that support gamepads but they are not really well designed.
The second is the mouse sensitivity. Most brick breaker games come with the mouse support and but the lack of sensitivity option is too obvious and the players that are looking for this option decide to leave that game right at the beginning.
And the last one is of course the keyboard. Even for a simple game like this, there is no harm to allow players to play the game with their keyboards and let them configure key bindings. This was one of the first things we did and we are sure you will love it too.
What are we offering?
Below, you will see three different screenshots. Letâs take a look at them first.
In Doughlings: Arcade, you will able to use any key that you want to play. We will offer two different alternatives for you to decide. You can directly play with them or change them as you wish.
If you like to play with your Mouse, suit yourself. You can assign the sensitivity and start playing right away.
Or maybe you love to play with your controller. Donât forget to check out options to see which buttons does which action. We did our best to choose the right buttons that you are familiar with so no worries. There will also be a native Steam controller support as well.
For us, the freedom of choice is important and control options are one of the most critical parts of Doughlings: Arcade. So we hope you will like what we have done so far and of course some of you will still have issues with it. Thatâs why we are here to make our game better with your comments and suggestions. See you on May 9th!
