Where's Book Four? An update!

Ragnar from Red Thread Games just posted an update about the upcoming Unity 5 version (with performance and stability fixes) and Book Four over on Kickstarter.

You can read the update here:

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/redthread/dreamfall-chapters-the-longest-journey/posts/1390566

The short version?

The port from Unity 4.6 (our old game engine) to Unity 5.2 (our new game engine) has not gone as smoothly as expected, and as a consequence Book Four has been slightly delayed.

We don't have a final release date just yet, but as soon as we do, we'll post another update here.

The Unity 5 version of Dreamfall Chapters will be available via the beta branch on Steam within the next week, so if you want to help us test it and/or check out the performance improvements, stay tuned for that.

Version 3.0.5 is live!

Included in this version are the German voice-overs for Book Three, along with updated German and French subtitles.

Once again, we apologise for the delay in finalising the German localisation of this episode.

Version 3.0.3 featuring French subtitles now available

We've just released a new game update — v3.0.3 — containing the following changes:

  • French subtitles for Book Three
  • Minor inventory fix
  • A small art update in the underground warehouse
  • Script/logic updates in some conversations

We're still waiting on the latest German voice files for Book Three from our localisation partner. Unfortunately, these have been delayed, but we hope to have another update soon.

Version 3.0.1 now available

We've just released a new patch for Dreamfall Chapters. This update should download automatically the next time you launch your Steam client.

Version 3.0.1 includes an important fix for players who played Book Two with version 2.0 and have experienced discrepancies between the choices they made in the previous episode and the consequences in Book Three.

IMPORTANT: If you have experienced this bug, you will need to load your final save game from Book Two and play through to the end of that episode with v3.0.1 before starting Book Three. Unless you do this, your choices will NOT be correctly stored.

We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience. This was a very difficult bug to track down. A huge thanks to everyone who contributed to the hunt!

If you have NOT noticed any discrepancies, and/or you played Book Two using version 2.0.1 or greater, you do not have to replay anything. If you started playing Book Two on or after March 27th, your story flags should be fine. To verify that your choices have been correctly recorded, please pay close attention to the recap at the start of Book Three.

Patch notes

  • Fixed the story flag bug that prevented some choices from Book Two to carry over to Book Three. Please note that you will need to load your final save game from Book Two and play through to the end of that episode to properly record your choices.
  • Fixed two Steam achievements that did not trigger properly.
  • Fixed gameplay-specific lighting in House of All Worlds.
  • Added some character animations to Interlude II.

Book Three: Realms has arrived

The third episode of Dreamfall Chapters is now live!

Version 3.0 of Dreamfall Chapters continues the parallel adventures of Zoë Castillo in Stark and Kian Alvane in Arcadia. Following the explosive events of Book Two, Realms picks up the story two months later — and much has changed.

Featuring brand new locations and characters, new challenges, choices and consequences, and hours of exploration and adventure, Book Three is the continuation you’ve all been waiting for!

Book Three is a free update for all season pass holders. Only the English language versions is currently available. German and French localised versions are coming soon.

Patch notes

  • Version 3.0 includes the third of five episodes of Dreamfall Chapters! Hours of new gameplay, tons of new characters and locations — enjoy!
  • Please note that you need to have completed Book One and Two in order to start Book Three.
  • Book Three is currently only available in English. German version with full voice-overs, and French subtitled version will arrive shortly.

General changes

  • There’s now a recap at the beginning of the episode, outlining some of the important choices you’ve made in the story. This recap will only play the first time you start Book Three, and only if you choose the ‘Start Book Three’ option from the front menu.

Known issues

  • Some players have received incorrect story flags (the choices made in the story) from the end of Book Two. We are working on a fix, which should arrive Friday June 26th. This bug only affects those who played through Book Two with version 2.0. Version 2.0.1 and later will not have this problem.
  • This is not a bug, but: we're getting reports that some players are unable to pick up a specific drawing in the Interlude. This is intentional, although the area in question is supposed to be darker than it appears on some screens (this will be fixed in v3.0.1). The solution to the puzzle is close at hand…
  • The settings menu is inaccessible from Interlude I. This will be fixed in the next patch.
  • There are volume issues with some of the voice-overs. We are working to correct this for version 3.0.1.
  • The OS-X Mac version is missing light-shafts. This version may also display flickering scenery in some locations. We are working on a fix.

Book Three arrives today!

The third episode of Dreamfall Chapters — Book Three: Realms — will be released later today as a free update to all players. The size of the patch will be at least 1 GB.

This release does not contain German subtitles or voice-overs, or French subtitles. We're working to finalise the German and French localised versions, and an update will be posted as soon as these are ready.

We will post the latest patch notes together with the release announcement later today, so stay tuned! Realms are about to open up!

Book Three: Realms arrives June 25th

The third episode of Dreamfall Chapters arrives this coming Thursday, June 25th. This will be an automatic and free update for all players.

An old friend returns in Book Three: Realms

What's coming in Book Three?

The third episode of Dreamfall Chapters has finally entered the final polish, testing and bug fixing phase, and we're getting closer to announcing a release date.

Book Three: Realms brings big changes to the twin worlds of Stark and Arcadia, and to our two leads — Zoë Castillo and Kian Alvane. Almost two months have passed since the explosive events of Book Two, and the actions and choices you've made in the past will play out in unexpected ways. Old friends will return, new locations will be explored, secrets will be revealed and the plot will thicken!

Here's a look at how our characters have evolved between episodes:

Version 2.0.2 is out!

Woohoo! After a week of beta testing, we have finally released our first big Book Two update!

(There are also some fixes to Book One and the game engine in general, though most of the fixes are related to our latest episode.)

Included in this version are German subtitles and voices, and French subtitles. We apologise for the delay in finalising the localisation of this episode.

Update 2.0.2.2 includes the following changes and fixes:

  • Full German localisation and French subtitles for Book Two.
  • Fixed an issue with jittering animations occurring during cinematic sequences on lower spec OS-X systems.
  • Solved a problem where the game would occasionally crash during startup on certain Mac systems with AMD GPU.
  • Fixed a bug where the game crashed in the Enclave soon after starting the episode on some Mac systems with AMD GPU.
  • Fixed a problem with the WATI adbot getting stuck in Chapter 4.
  • Solved some bugs with the Bip escort mission in Chapter 3. Bip should now reappear and/or reposition if he gets stuck or disappears during the mission. You can also 'reset' Bip manually, by exiting the location and re-entering (e.g. by going in and out of the Rooster and Kitten or Mole's burrow).
  • Fixed an issue with the Azadi runner getting stuck or disappearing during his rounds in Chapter 3. Like Bip, the runner will also reset if you exit and re-enter the location.
  • Fixed an issue where if you talk to Reza before visiting Dr Roman in Chapter 4, you get an extra goal that never disappears.
  • Fixed an issue where if you go to the Pandemonium and speak to Mira before meeting Baruti in Chapter 4, you will always get the introduction for the neural programming career path, regardless of your actual career path.
  • Solved a problem with a duplicate dialogue line in the Mr London confrontation from Chapter 2.
  • Modified geometry collision in the Enclave and Marcuria, to avoid players getting stuck inside scenery.
  • Fixed a problem on MacBooks where the game would be frozen after the laptop goes to sleep and wakes up again.
  • Added a new icon for apprehending the Azadi collaborator in Chapter 3, to avoid false arrests. This icon will only be available if you start a new game.
  • Zoë’s journal in Chapters 4 and 5 has been expanded to fill in more of the story. To see the new journal entries, you will have to replay the chapters in question.
  • Fixed a problem with the inventory GUI getting stuck after being caught by the patrolling dock guard in Chapter 3.
  • The ‘Continue' button in the main menu is now disabled when the ‘Start Book Two’ option is available, to avoid confusion. ‘Continue’ always loads your last save game; it does not start a new episode.
  • All new save games will now be preceded with the chapter number, to make save game organisation a bit easier. Existing save games will not be updated.
  • The much requested consequence/important dialogue toggle has been added to settings. This is on by default, but can now be switched off. You will no longer see any 'immersion breaking' messages…but you might also miss out on some of the more subtle consequences of your choices and actions in the game.
  • Fixed a shader problem that could cause glowing corneas ('laser eyes') on ATI video cards. Please note that this is a work in progress and there may still be issues with this shader.
  • Fixed an issue where players could get permanently stuck in Zoë's apartment in Book One.
  • Brought back missing NPC atmospheric conversations in Europolis. These conversation were present in version 1.x but disappeared in version 2.0.
  • Ensured that the game will default to English text/voice if there are missing German/French subtitles or voice files.
  • Fixed an issue where interaction points on the shank and key in Friar's Keep in Book One could get offset in a save game.
  • Fixed an issue where the mouse pointer could get hidden when application focus was lost during dialogue options.
  • Re-added missing Arn Stont dialogue for Friar's Keep.
  • Re-added missing Bricks merchant voice-overs.

What's next? We're working on an update for the week after Easter which will fix issues with low volume on some dialogue lines, and add more sounds throughout Marcuria and other locations. There may also be other fixes included in this version.
