Announcing the Dreamscaper 1.1 Update

Hey Dreamers,

As a special thank you for all your post-launch support and feedback, we'll be releasing a major update to Dreamscaper next week, on October 21st.

We've been incorporating more of your suggestions into the game as we've been adding some brand new content.

Here's what you can expect:

New Features

Merchant Rerolling

A highly requested feature - players will now have the ability to spend Sand to refresh the options in the merchant room. This new feature can be unlocked via the Daydreaming system.

Metacurrency to Sand Converter

To couple with Merchant Rerolling, players will now be able to convert excess waking world currency (like glass or resolve) into Sand from within each levels starting room. We hope this allows for more flexibility to create the build you want. This new feature can also be unlocked via the Daydreaming system.

New Items

A whole slew of new items:

    <*> Two melee attacks
    <*> Two ranged attacks
    <*> Four lucid attacks
    <*> Eleven Keepsakes

New Rooms

Paul has been hard at work on some gorgeous new rooms that will add variety to the earlier levels. Each of the rooms comes with new memories Cassidy can discover as well.

Finally, we've also added new Secret Room stylings in the later levels.

QoL Improvements

  • Icons display on the HUD for when an unused Firebird is active or when the double metacurrency buff is currently active (Before taking damage).
  • Text on Off Balanced has clearer language

Balance Changes

  • Blowgun, Biting Dagger & Fireburst have had damage reduced.
  • Player can no longer be impacted by their own status effects on projectiles parried by enemies.

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed bug where auto-skipping Regret's intro/outro caused the clock arm to disappear.
  • Auto-recycling of Health Potions that are off-screen will correctly scale the sand with level now.
  • Spawning Keepsakes through White Elephant will no longer produce possible duplicate Keepsakes.
  • Astral Blow can now spawn in Random starting loadouts.
  • Perfect Damage & Window modifiers no longer spawn on automatic ranged weapons.
  • Umbrella's Alt Attack has been fixed
  • Escape menu now correctly dismisses menus first in Dream instead of immediately bringing up the Escape menu.
  • Fix bug where projectiles would collide with the visual AOE of the debuffing turret.
  • Adjusted Whirling Currents alt attack to help prevent physics bugs, adjusted recovery time.
  • Erroneous "burn duration" text on buffing items now correctly says "buff duration."
  • Fixed many typos across all languages.

This build is currently live on our "test" branch if you'd like to help us iron out the kinks.

To access the "test" beta you simply:
1. Right click Dreamscaper in Steam.
2. Select "Properties..."
3. Choose the "BETAS" tab.
4. Select "test" from the drop-down menu.

We greatly appreciate your continued support of Dreamscaper, as always, come hang with us in Discord or follow us on Twitter.

Finally, if you haven't done so already, you can always help us out by leaving us a Steam review with your thoughts!

Thank you for playing!

QoL Update Hotfix (1.0.5.7)

OK one final bug got reported after the cleanup patch went out that we felt was worth hotfixing:

- Regret's Tick-Tocking would persist indefinitely if defeated when "Skip Boss Animations" is checked on.

Sorry for the crazy patching today!

Cheers,
Rob, Ian & Paul

QoL Update Cleanup Patch #2 (1.0.5.6)

Just some final bug fixes for a couple of minor issues that were discovered over the weekend:

- Fixed issue where "skip boss intro/outro" option was skipping boss cleanup (projectiles, status effects, etc.)
- Items like Face Mask will correctly make the player immune to Assassin's Poison effects.
- Card Trick & Bang Snap Keepsakes will now display N/A instead of a cost for Enchantment destruction.

Cheers,
Rob, Ian & Paul

QoL Update Cleanup Patch (1.0.5.5)

There were a few more improvements & fixes we wanted to squeeze in before we go heads-down on the upcoming 1.1 Update (the one with the new content including items) so here you go!

Improvements:

  • Increasing the size of a lot of smaller text (primarily for Nintendo Switch and Steam Deck)
  • Character Stats in the Inventory can now be scrolled through (right stick on Gamepad)

Balance Changes:

  • Status Effect trigger chance is no longer reduced by number of hits (except for Freeze)
  • Status Effects being triggered by multiple hits extends previous effects instead of stopping and starting new ones
  • Slight nerf to Feather Foot Flip Damage
  • Nerfed a particularly brutal combat room in nightmare hometown that had two bruisers

Fixes:

  • Fixed some missing Chinese translations
  • Fixed some German typos

Cheers,
Rob, Ian & Paul

1.0 QoL & Stability Patch #3 (1.0.4.1)

Our original plan was to hold off on releasing another patch until our larger Quality-of-Life update was ready. However, the list of what we want to do is so long that it will take at least a couple of weeks to complete. Therefore we picked a few of the most popular QoL improvements, resolved all of the (known) crashes in our game, and bundled them together this week.

QoL Improvements:

  • By popular demand, players can now choose to opt out of the Discord prompt that appears when exiting the game.
  • Saves are now backed up at the start of every floor so runs can now be salvaged in the event of a crash or hardware failure.
  • While still not officially supported, ultrawide aspect ratios no longer cut the bottom or top of the play area in dreams.

Crash Fixes:

  • Fix for the crashes that could occur on the 6th floor when traveling between rooms.
  • Fix for the crash that can occur between floors when swapping Influences.
  • Fix for the crashes that were occurring in the 3rd boss fight.

Bug Fixes:

  • Fixed soft-locks and other weird issues caused by bosses and players dying within moments of each other.
  • Fixed out-of-bound enemies spawning in the 6th floor.

Hopefully this will tide you over until our larger QoL update that should arrive in the next couple of weeks. Of course if new critical issues or regressions arise, we will continue to release smaller hotfixes to keep everything stable.

Cheers,
Rob, Ian & Paul

1.0 Stability Patch #2.1 (1.0.3.7)

We did a small oopsie and forgot to include a couple of fixes that were meant to go out in yesterday's second stability patch so we're getting them out this this morning (they were listed but now they're actually fixed):

  • 2nd Boss on Hard no longer has Poison AOE attack (moved to Nightmare mode)
  • 6th Boss should be framed better during combat.
  • Various English, German & Japanese text fixes.

A special thank you to BadMedium for pointing out that the first two weren't actually fixed and to Rapscallion for several German text fixes.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Cheers,
Rob, Ian & Paul

Thank you everyone for your input and keen eyes!

Cheers,
Rob, Ian & Paul

1.0 Stability Patch #1 (1.0.3.3)

What an exciting few days! We are thrilled to see a huge influx of players and even more thrilled to see the positive response to Dreamscaper 1.0. We wanted to get a quick stability patch out immediately this week to help with some of the most critical issues discovered:

  • Fixing crash that can occur when starting a new save game.
  • Fixing bug where players can get stuck in the room young Cassidy wakes in during the intro.
  • Empty combat room in Nightmare Campround now has enemies.
  • Fixed hidden obstacles discovered in Nightmare City.
  • Fixing bug where Primal Scream audio was not playing.
  • Fixing some English typos.

This is just the beginning. We plan on having another focused stability patch out later this week to resolve additional high-priority issues, and then more general bug-fixing & quality-of-life improvements in the following weeks.

Cheers,
Rob, Ian & Paul
