DriftKing 2D now checks all Steams check boxes!
This was a bigger hassle than expected, But it was a pleasure to work with The Steamworks tools!
Future updates are going to be fairly smooth and i can't thank Valve enough for this opportunity.
But now on to the more interesting stuff!
Steam features:
- Added the first 9 Achievements.
- Added the Leaderboard. (Global Highscore)
- Steam Cloud Save support.
- Keyboard, Mouse, Controller & Touch support fully added.
- Runs in windowed mode & Fullscreen mode without hassle.
Game features:
- Added the ability to claim 100 free DK every 24 hours (Store menu) :Overdollar:
- Added a Real world time Day/Night cycle.
- Added a car headlight during night time.
- Added the first 3 missions. (Collect DK, & Hit traffic cones)
- Fixed offline achievements.
Other updates:
- Reworked the local and steam cloud save systems.
- Reworked the UI, Scales reasonably well for most window sizes. (Please add some feedback if you encounter Strange Things!)
- Replaced the vehicle assets (Vehicle 1 will get a rework soon!)
- Switched the billboards for temporary placeholders.
- Additional bug fixes.
- A first step in optimizations (Honestly should be worth something!)
- Many late-night hours!
- A lot of fun and I truly hope and aim for you to have at least as much as fun.
In the future:
(in no particular order)
- Translations need a lot more work! This will be ramped up in the near future.
- A 5th Biome should come soon.
- A Couple new vehicles.
- More missions!
- A couple of secrets to find in the vast "open world".
- Specialized vehicles.
- Reworked control schemes.
- A better Road generation system.
- New additional assets (Cacti, Snowballs/Snowman are already waiting to be imported and configured!).
- Additional Gameplay modes.
My apologies for not making it in time! This is no April Fools joke unfortunately.
A lot has happened for me personally in the past few weeks including a new day job.
DriftKing 2D is almost ready for it's Early Access launch but it's just not quite there yet.
Transparency is important so here's a quick summary of things that didn't finish in time and are currently my top priority in the coming days:
Collecting new colors and vehicles. (Almost ready)
The Store menu's (Almost ready)
Achievements & Leaderboards (Almost Ready)
Missions menu (Almost Ready)
Offline savefile system + Cloud save (Broken)
Additional tweaks and optimizations of the new additions.
There's also a new gameplay trailer coming as soon as possible, Work on the website and presskits, Marketing and porting the game over to Google Play while waiting for the game build to go live on Steam.
I hope everyone will understand my decision to postpone until a more complete and playable version has been realized.
The Beta is Playable today!
Good progress has been made on getting the game actually playable on Steam!
Achievements should be fine from now on as well!
That went a lot smoother than expected, So the future looks bright!
There's still a lot to manage on the Steam store side, But at least the workflow has been straightened out.
Everything between development and pushing to Steam should be fairly straight-forward from now on.
I'm really glad to get past these steps.
Next steps are to actually make the game itself completely playable.
Starting with:
- Fixing all dynamic User interfaces.
- Filling the menu's with content: Missions are coming!
- Creating a real cloud-saved save file.
- Adding the First achievement.
(All other achievements should stay unlocked during the beta round)
- Adding the 3th and 4th Vehicle. (Suggest anything!)
