Custom and private multiplayer games are now available. Use an invite code to share and join specific games, or even watch games in progress as a spectator.
Battle speed and unit stats are now affected by the relief and terrain where combat takes place.
The cost of diplomatic actions is now more accurately adapted to the situation of each country.
New diplomatic action that uses research points instead of money.
After using the attack command, draw a region on the map to ensure that only that part is annexed by your troops.
New base map and customizations
New map that shows each country in a different color.
Map style is now fully customizable.
Many gameplay settings can now be adjusted for custom games through the options menu.
The country window can now be minimized in order to hide it while keeping the selection.
There is now a short delay at the beginning before the AIs start attacking, and the initial money has been increased. This should level the field a bit for the weaker countries and give them a better chance of surviving.
Defenders in a battle now have a combat bonus.
Maintenance cost of troops is now increased the further they are from base and depeding on the country, terrain and relief they are located at the time. This will also give automatic paths a much stronger preference for travel by sea than by other non-allied countries.
AIs will now honor a truce for a few years after signing a peace or alliance treaty.
Custom games and gameplay improvements
New game mode in which the victory condition and the initial resources of the countries can be customized. It's also possible to play as none and watch simulations with custom data. There is no time restriction in this mode so saving is manual and loading is instant without replay.
AIs are now less reckless and are more likely to annex nearby territories.
Nuclear weapon and geographic random events effects have been increased and now AIs may retaliate with nukes if they are bombed or invaded.
Urban planning and economic stimulus now also grant a portion of economy and population respectively, and their effect drains resources from the rest of the world.
Combat with militias now damages the surrounding territory.
Demographic and economic growth will now slow down progressively to prevent resources from ramping up too high in very long games.
Minimum number of players for multiplayer is now 2 until custom multiplayer games are available.
These changes break saved games so the previous build is available in the beta branches in case someone wants to finish a saved game.
Update
I have uploaded a new update that should fix most of the reported crashes. In addition I made some tweaks to the gameplay:
The cost of the diplomatic actions is now cheaper and much less exponential for weaker countries.
Some balancing to the research bonuses.
AIs won't attack blindly trying to recover lost territories and will be better at recruiting new units.
However this changes will break previous saved games, so if you want to finish a game you can go back to the previous build through the Steam betas menu.
