UPDATE 1.03
Greetings adventurers,
Thank you so much for your ongoing support!
The next thing we dealt with, is the implementation of Steam Achievements, to show the Steam crowd how far you have gotten already. Besides, we made some minor adjustments. In this post, you will find all changes made in update 1.03.
We are happy to hear your thoughts: https://discord.gg/v57Ap2Yf93
ACHIEVEMENTS
We have added 87 achievements to the game.
To make this happen, 33 stats and triggers were implemented in the backend.
GAME MODE
The difficulty selection is no longer available in the main menu, however you can switch game mode by doing a reset. We intended to make it impossible to switch within a running dungeon to make achievements sticking out clearly.
Difficulty is now stored in the savegame, before it was in the player prefs only.
There are some achievements connected to the chosen game mode.
VISUALS
The FPS counter is no longer visible, however the limitation to 60 FPS is still in place.
Dice rotations have been restored, after die rolls felt a bit clunky with the FPS limitation.
Your Steam name is displayed in the top right corner.
The current game mode is shown at the bottom left corner.
The winning screen now shows the game mode and stays until you click.
We've converted remaining UI Text into Text Mesh Pro to provide streamlined fonts.
BUGFIXES
A bug was fixed that led to some monsters not triggering their die animations.
Some sound effects were optimized to prevent clumping.
To make it more fail safe, we have added a confirmation in the main menu to warn you, if you are about to reset the game in order to prevent resets from happening accidentally.
We have reworked the logic of in game menues to prevent glitches that could happen while multiple menues where open at a time.
We hope that you'll like the changes and achievements. Happy hunting :)
Good luck and safe travels! Keep in mind, death is not ultimate...

TIPS & TRICKS
Greetings adventurers,
Today we'd like to share some tips and tricks to boost your survivability.
You should stop reading right here, if you are not up for any spoilers :)
Melee Combat Look for melee combat versus Skeleton Crossbows and Mages. Their Evade Bonus adds up to their defense points, hence they are hard to shoot from a distance. Chase Crossbows as they are not capable of melee attacks at all and will try to run away. Once you nail them down they're easy prey. Mages can engage in melee combat but are way less powerful, however it's harder to nail them down while they can move over lava tiles.
Ranged Combat Use ranged attacks versus Zombies and Skeleton Warriors. Specifically Zombies have neither defense nor evade and are good targets, even with lower bows. Keep in mind the far distance malus (3+ tiles). The same applies on defense. While clearing adds, keep Crossbows 3 tiles away so that they will suffer a distance malus. They will not come any closer unless you move completely out of their range.
Room Order You might wanna aim for easy rooms first, to gain more XP before entering stronger rooms. As rooms are procedurally generated, there might be slight changes to your preferred room orders from run to run. If you have the Thief perk, you can try to sneak through a room unnoticed to unlock further rooms with more favorable mobs or better access to loot. While invisible, the closer you get to a monster, the higher the chance to get spotted. You can leave rooms to escape critical situations if a door is near.
Perks On level up, you might want to look back at previous perks. There are some pretty mighty perks that combine neatly. The most powerful perk is Thief. Both, Focus and Critical Hit are strong picks, not only for the boss fight and you should definitely pick at least the initial tier. Stamina is the strongest perk in terms of survivability. Later must-have is Magician that enables you to cast spells to increase your mobility.
Focus Do not underestimate Focus bonus which is a powerful advantage all mobs can gain except green zombies. Focus bonus is granted, once an attacker is targeting the same opponent successively. A red marker on the plinth indicates that a monster has focus bonus on you. To break the focus, you need to force the monster to move. You activate focus bonus yourself once you have obtained the Focus perk. Your focus target is indicated by a green plinth marker.
Positioning When rushing a room of ranged creatures, you will look for the shortest path to engage in melee combat and cut off escape paths at the same time. Versus melee, look for chokes that allow minimal amount of melee attackers passing through at a time. Make use of mobs blocking each others way when fighting larger groups. Monsters will only move as long as they are not in attack range, which can lead to blockages. Again, if monsters have focus on you, consider moving out of range to break focus.
Door-Hopping In case you can enter a room through more than one door, make use of it to gain advantage in positioning. Hop into a door with a Crossbow in melee range, and get right out to enter the room through another door that allows you to land some ranged hits on Zombies. This is especially powerful when combined with the Thief perk, as the perk will activate every time when you enter the room through a door that is different to the one through which you walked out.
Items You pick up items automatically, as long as you have space in your backpack left, so sometimes it's not worth to fight your way onto a specific loot item. Spells can be picked up only once you acquired the Magician perk, but you can always walk back to previous rooms and stages to pick up loot you left behind. If you have a full backpack but plenty of loot left you can increase your backpack size with perks as well.
We hope this helps to defeat Medium and Hard game modes.

UPDATE 1.02
Greetings adventurers,
First of all, we'd like to thank you for all the great feedbacks you've shared back with us since launch and for your support via purchases!
Over the last days we took the time to evaluate where we could do adjustments according to your feedbacks to make the game more achievable and rewarding, without tossing out the ground mechanics. We hope that you'll like the changes we made in version 1.02.
Please keep helping us to improve. Get in touch and into discussion on our Discord: https://discord.gg/v57Ap2Yf93 - we are happy to hear your thoughts.
GAME MODE
You can set difficulty level in the menu: Easy (new default), Medium and Hard (previous default) which will manipulate RNG calculation in the backend.
PROGRESSION
XP progression was optimized to baseline 100 and ~150% increase to next level (TNL).
This means you will level up faster (~twice) which allows you to access more perks to alter tactics and gameplay.
Accordingly, the new max level is 20 (previously 10).
We recommend to Reset Progress (main menu), to gain all benefits of faster level ups and more perks
PERKS
We have added 12 new perks (previously 10, now it's 22 total), most of them being follow-up perks (T2/T3).
Due to this, we have added a logic to access T2/T3 perks only if you have learnt previous tiers.
We have redistributed perk order to better match power and overall progression.
Some perk descriptions have been reworked to make the effects a bit clearer.
VISUALS
Caves have different base colors to tell stages apart and to provide some more variation.
Picked perks are now being displayed to the left of the hero pillar for better visibility. To review perk details, you can still click the hero pillar (or perk icons) to access the full descriptions.
Full backpack is indicated by red counter color.
Complete rework of the boss cave.
FPS are limited to 60 (from unlimited) and are displayed in the bottom left corner.
BACKPACK
Backpack starts with reduced size and now holds a maximum of 2 items per type (potions, spells), but can be increased up to 5 max items (using perks).
BUGFIXES
We have spotted and fixed an issue with the random number generator (RNG).
Null Reference issues in the backend.
Due to an error with invisibility spells, we have temporarily removed this spell.
We recommend to Reset Progress (via the main menu), to gain all benefits of faster level ups and more perks, as your level will change according to the new progression, however you will not get the additional perks retroactively that you would have received from the faster level ups.
Good luck and safe travels! Keep in mind, death is not ultimate...

PRE-RELEASE NOTES
Greetings adventurers,
Roughly 3 years after the initial commit in our Dungeon Crawler repository in January 2019, we are happy and proud to finally present our first PC title on Steam. The game is planned to go live on February 22nd, however a delay to February 25th is probable due to the given timeline frameworks.
As an indie studio of 3 - all working outside the gaming industry spending only their spare time on game development - it's been quite a ride for us with lots of ups and downs in between. Due to RL, we paused development in March 2020 and picked it up only 19 months later in December 2021, when we decided that this game should not remain unfinished. So, here we are, 3 years later.
The idea for Dungeon Crawler was based on our common childhood experiences with pen and paper and tabletop games, back then when PC games were still in their very cradle. We wanted to create a casual game without pretending too much of a story (as everybody has numerous stories on their minds for sure) but focus more on elements like round-based combat, loot and level ups.
The result is a casual rogue like dungeon crawler that comes in tabletop visuals and encourages players to try themselves without being afraid of failing fast. In fact, you will most probably fail a lot, before you can make it to the final boss, and even after succeeding, there are still different pathes and play styles you can explore using different combinations of early perks.
An earlier version was released on a WebGL gaming platform and we submitted a pre-release candidate for the Finally Finish Something Game Jam in January 2022.
We hope to provide you with a nice atmospheric casual single player gaming experience with some entertaining hours of dungeon exploration PvE.
Good luck and safe travels! Keep in mind, death is not ultimate...
