New Spells: Fire Blast, Shock Chain, & Time Stop

We’ve introduced scroll combos, where you can use two scrolls to create a more powerful spell. When you click one of the scrolls in the combo, the other scroll’s name will change to the combo spell, which you can then click to cast.

Leap + Flame > Fire Blast (unlocked at Fame 13)
Haste + Flame > Shock Chain (unlocked at Fame 19)
Leap + Haste > Time Stop (unlocked at Fame 27)

Fire Blast is an explosive attack that leaves flames in its wake. Shock Chain is an electric attack that goes from monster to monster. And Time Stop lets you move, leap, and loot as much as you want, followed by a +6 attack bonus.

Bolt and Vanish scrolls are no longer part of the game. You will find more Leap, Haste, and Flame scrolls instead.

The Dungeon Widens

Our engineering gnomes are proud to offer these release notes:

[If your update gets stuck: uninstall, then re-install.]

WIDE SCREEN DUNGEONS
We've enhanced our dungeon art to support wide-screen views. So go wide!

PANIC & FRENZY
After the dwarf charges, any monster that is adjacent to the dwarf, other than the target, will panic and skip its next turn. Previously, only monsters adjacent to both the dwarf and the target would panic. And the Frenzy II skill has been changed to this: +3 when charging into frenzy. Frenzy II is now what Frenzy III used to be: Flames also count towards frenzy bonus. These changes will improve the dwarf’s ability to plunge himself into the middle of battle.

IMPROVED DAILY HUNT STANDINGS
The standings page now includes a Daily Hunt section showing the top ten players for the current hunt and the top 5 players for the previous 6 hunts. For players who hunted more than once, only their best score is shown. The hero used for each hunt will be shown, although games prior to this release will all show the human as the hero. We also changed the hunt so that the difficulty of the region affects how many scrolls you start with rather than the weapon bonus.

MITHRIL ON A ROCK
The art for the mithril vest no longer looks like you are buying it in a store. You will now find it draped across a rock. And mithril will only be found on the top side of a room.

NEW BULL RUSH
The swordsman can now bull rush monsters that start with 2 or more health, but only when they have been reduced to one health, and never into a pit. He can also bull rush monsters with greater than 5 defense.

ELVEN HUNTRESS ADUSTMENTS
The elf's Prowl ability has been changed to a multi-part skill:

Prowl: 50% less likely to be caught sneaking.
Prowl II: Chance to remain unseen after stealth bow attacks: 30% if you hit, 70% if you miss.
Prowl III: Gain an additional +2 to surprise sword attacks.

The above Prowl skill replaces the Long Shot skill, which has been changed to a natural Range ability: The elf has +1 to bow range. Thus you have no distance penalty for using your bow from 3 tiles away, and you can use your bow from 4 away, with the -3 distance penalty.

That's all for now. Carry on.

Update Notes for march 7

Our engineering gnomes are proud to offer these release notes:

WIDE SCREEN DUNGEONS
We've enhanced our dungeon art to support wide-screen views. So go full screen!

INTO THE BREACH
After the dwarf charges, any monster that is adjacent to the dwarf, other than the target, will panic and skip its next turn. Previously, only monsters adjacent to both the dwarf and the target would panic. And the Frenzy II skill has been changed to this: +3 when charging into frenzy. Magical Runestones Have Been Unearthed!

RUNESTONES
Runestones will now be found throughout the game. If you are within range of a runestone, you may cast the associated spell (Leap, Haste, Flame, Vanish, or Bolt) using up a runestone charge instead of a scroll. Runestones start with 3 charges and can be used from a distance equal to the number of charges remaining. They will appear in the dragon lair, in the daily hunt, and in monster dens.

MONSTER DENS
Previously only found in tournaments, monster dens are now in career and campaign modes as well. Dens contain an extra loot item, a runestone, and a higher density of monsters, many of which are overgrown. Monster dens are unlocked at fame level 20.

ENHANCED BOLT & VANISH SPELLS
We've also upgraded the effects of the Bolt and Vanish spells. Bolt, in addition to its powerful electrical attack, will now panic any monster along or adjacent to its lightning path. And the Vanish spell now confers the ability to pilfer with no chance of being spotted, along with a +6 attack bonus that causes a surviving target to panic.

MONSTER THEMES
And that's not all that's new with this major upgrade. We have also reconstituted the monster types that go with each region, giving a more consistent monster theme per region. Be warned, though - you may encounter a monster or two from a neighboring region that has wandered in. And watch out for the hags - they've been working out.

EFFICIENCY AWARDS
After victories where you were particularly efficient in dragon slaying, you will get an added XP award in recognition of your prowess.

FASTER ANIMATION
You now have the ability to speed up the animations even more than before.

RUMBLING WORMS
We've changed the method by which purple worms emerge from the depths. But at least now they make a rumbling noise during their ascent, giving you a little warning before they pop out of a nearby pit!

We hope you like this release, which we expect to the last major upgrade before we leave Early Access.

Yay for the Overlay!

We now support the Steam Overlay. The dungeon may still be scary, but at least now your friends are just a SHIFT-TAB away.

Oh, and we uploaded a couple new video trailers. They provide lots more gameplay footage.
