Game Note: New Quarter Foundations
Greetings from Orbis!
How’s your week been? This week, we’ve got some good news for your friends, and we’ve added some extra new base-building parts for you to play around with and exercise your creativity. Let’s start with the big news first:
🎉 Price Reduction!
Good news, survivors! We’re thrilled to announce that we’re making the Dysterra Dyscount permanent! Starting March 24th, the game will be available at a new lower price of $14.99. We hope this will encourage more players to join our servers and make our community even more vibrant. If you see any new people on the Discord server, please extend a warm welcome and offer them any help you can.
📢 Founder’s Pack
To show our appreciation to our loyal Dysterra players, we're excited to offer a special "Founder's Pack" to anyone who purchases the game before the end of the Steam Spring Sale (ending on March 23rd, 10am PST). Beginning at 8pm on March 23rd, you should get a notice that you’ve received the pack when you log-in.
The pack includes:
🎁 6 furniture recipes 🗿 12 sculptures 💰 3000 terrapoints (yes, we love you 3000!)
The 3000 terrapoints can be used to purchase new items in the game lobby’s Terra Shop. We’re thankful that you’ve taken a chance on our game, and especially grateful for everyone who’s taken the time to give feedback on Discord.
While most of the furniture is decorational, the bed has a respawn cooldown of 30 seconds, making it perfect if someone’s raiding your base and you need to get right back into the action.
Also, be sure to save some of those terrapoints because we'll be introducing a new Orbis Container soon.
🏡 1/4 Foundations!
Building in Dysterra has been a bit like building a house in early versions of Minecraft. But, we're excited to announce a new set of base parts that will make base-building easier and more customizable. We're adding a quarter (1/4) foundation option, which means that you can create hallways that actually look like hallways!
Now a hallway can be more like a hallway, and base defense is more customizable. You can create a maze to lure enemies into a death trap, or more easily hide a shotgun turret around a corner. If you’ve been using honeycombing as a base defense tactic, you can consider double-layering your base instead.
🔧 Things we fixed:
🔹 An issue with intermittent freezes. 🔹 A UI error with canceling bullets on the Stalker gun. 🔹 The progress bar while gathering would sometimes display backwards.
🔧 Other news!
Keep your eyes peeled for a big announcement later this week!
We've finished the maintenance! Feel free to jump back in and pick up where you left off!
We will be closing the servers for some minor maintenance soon. It should only last for about 1 hour.
PST: Mar 9th, 01:30 CET: Mar 9th, 10:30 KST: Mar 9th, 18:30
📌 Move your character to a safe place
If you are still on the server when maintenance begins, your character will fall asleep wherever you happen to be.
📌 Single-Player Mode & Custom Server Survivors!
Be sure to update Dysterra in Steam when we're done to avoid any gameplay issues.
Dev Note: Dysterra Dyscount!
Greetings from Orbis!
🎁 Steam’s having its Spring Sale!
We're excited to announce a Dysterra Dyscount! As part of the Steam Spring Sale, we're offering a 50% discount on Dysterra, bringing the price down to just $14.99. It's a great opportunity for you or a friend to pick up a copy!
If you've been thinking about trying out Dysterra, now’s the perfect time to grab it at a reduced price. We’re regularly adding new content to the game and fixing things as quick as we can. So spread the word to your friends and family. We appreciate your support and look forward to seeing you in-game!
Moving on to our regularly scheduled Dev Note, we’ve been hard at work this week designing new content for you.
☠️ New animations for our upcoming boss
Our art team has made some animations for our new boss that I think are pretty good. They’re all pretty good, but I picked two that I thought were interesting. The first one is its idle animation, and the second one is when (or if!) you kill him.
Here’s our new boss’s audition for the part of Romeo in the school play. I’m a little biased, but I think he’ll get the part. It might take some of you a few tries to see this animation of it dying(once it’s in the game), but I’m sure most of you will get there!
⛰️ Mining Machine Progress
Our amazing art team is putting the finishing touches on the mining machine stone-version. We’ve mostly completed the animations. Now it’s on to completing the other tier versions! Casual and hardcore gamers alike will enjoy being able to focus more on fighting, and less on pvp.
Here’s how it’ll look in the wild.
Here’s a close-up.
And here’s how it’ll move.
🏠 Updated building designs
This one mostly speaks for itself. We’re working on updating a portion of the buildings around the map to look more “lived in.”
If you are still on the server when maintenance begins, your character will fall asleep wherever you happen to be.
📌 Single-Player Mode & Custom Server Survivors!
Be sure to update Dysterra in Steam when we're done to avoid any gameplay issues.
Patch Preview: Enter? Or Walk away?
Greetings from Orbis!
In this week's patch, Ararat Island's game mechanics are being refined to create a more engaging and challenging experience. We're redesigning doors, we’re making a change to the Meteochamber elevator, and mobs will now be able to walk away from a fight.
🚶🏿♂️ Should I stay or should I go?
With so many types of areas on Ararat Island, some are bound to be easier while others are going to be harder. We’ve decided to redesign doors so they show the expected difficulty of the area. Difficulties range from Very Easy to Very Hard, so if you’re a beginner, you’ll know to stay in places that have the word “easy” in their description.
🚪 Change to Meteochamber Elevator
The elevator in the Meteochamber now requires a special key to operate, which is obtained from the Stomper in the final area.
Users must retrieve the key after calling the elevator in order to ride it to the upper level. However, the key will expire one hour after it is obtained, rendering it unusable. This change is being implemented to prevent unintended methods of clearing the Meteochamber.
🚶🏿♂️ Just walk away.
There were instances where mobs weren’t able to attack players for whatever reason. That’s why we're teaching mobs how to walk away from a fight. This way, if you’re on your roof and some cyclops come walking by, they will run away once they realize they can’t get to you.
🐞 Bugs
🔹Some resources were hidden under dirt. We dug them up and dusted them off. 🔹Upon dying, players would sometimes only see the final piece of damage they received. We killed that error. 🔹We fixed facility skills so they don’t affect a sphere, but instead affect a cylinder that includes above and below ground. (This means you could be affected while in the Bunker or the Hyena Den.) 🔹Custom Server log improvements. We fixed some errors with locations and UIDs concerning resource boxes. 🔹Fixed an issue with the delta plant’s facility skill.
As always, we hope you'll like what we’ve done. We’re always striving to make Dysterra an enjoyable game for everyone!

Attention all survivors! We've got some exciting news for you. We've been using the site "Feature Upvote" to process feedback about our game, but we've decided to level up and move to Reddit to build our community further.
We believe Reddit will be a great platform for us to connect with our fans, gather feedback, and build a vibrant community around our game. Plus, let's be real, most of us are already on Reddit.
Our Feature Upvote page will not be accessible after March 13th, so if you haven't already, head on over to Reddit to join the fun. We’re new to running a subreddit, so any tips and ideas will be much appreciated.
We understand that some of you may be disappointed to hear that our Feature Upvote page is going away, but we promise that this move will be worth it. We're committed to creating a space on Reddit where our community can come together to discuss the game, share their ideas, and help us shape the future of Dysterra.
And for those of you who are part of our Discord server, don't worry. We'll still be moderating the server and keeping an eye on things. So feel free to drop in, ask questions, or share your thoughts – we're always listening. We understand, though, that our community would benefit from more direct interaction between our developers and players. Going forward, we'll be increasing the visibility of our Dev team in order to foster a more engaging and collaborative environment.
What are you waiting for? Come join us on r/dysterra_official and let's make some magic happen. We can't wait to see you there!
🔥 Refining Attacks
Now that we have all of the “bones” in our new boss(See last weeks’ Dev Note), we can make it move and do things. We’ve started working on designing its combat attacks. Here’s a look at one of the attacks we’ve designed so far.
🛡️ Armor Designs
Here’s the design sheet for our (planned) Tier 5 titanium armor. Note: It will probably change quite a bit once we 3D model it.
Have a great weekend, you splendid survivors! - Director K
