Eagle Island Summer Solstice Update
Hey everyone, welcome to the Eagle Island Summer Solstice Update!
I've been paying close attention to reviews and feedback, and challenged myself to create this update fixing all of the key issues players had with the game! Here's a fun video showing the update's features. If you stick around for the end, you'll get a preview of what's coming next!
[previewyoutube="2Pg3S9wGO5Q;full"]
Revamped player control
You said Quill's movement was too slippery and unresponsive. I originally wanted Quill to feel like a retro game character, but this clashed with many players' expectation of an indie game. I've now increased Quill's acceleration (so he's not slippery) and added a skidding animation with dust clouds, making him feel more grounded. His air acceleration has also been increased to give greater control while jumping (a bit less Simon Belmont!)
You also said Koji took too long to recover after missing a shot - this recovery time has been significantly reduced.
Revamped aiming system
You said aiming Koji was too difficult and the 8 direction aiming felt bad. I've reprogrammed the entire aiming system making it more responsive - for both keyboard and gamepad. I removed a feature which snaps the direction you aim back to horizontal - this was causing many players to inadvertently launch Koji horizontally when they didn't want to. The game now defaults to 360 aiming when using a gamepad, and has a new (optional) aiming guide to keep your aim true! If you want to use 360 aiming without a gamepad, you can either enable mouse control or use the auto aim accessibility feature.
New runestones
You said some of the runestones are too boring. I've replaced those ones with 17 brand new ones! I've also buffed some of the remaining runestones to make them more exciting and practical. Runestones now display a life bar on the UI so you aren't surprised when they suddenly explode! As before, there's the option to make them permanent if you prefer that. Toucan Traders now carry an extra runestone in their stock so you get a greater choice at shops!
Damage and checkpoints
You said the game is too hard and should have checkpoints to respawn at. It's traditional in a roguelite to restart a run from the beginning if you fail, but I totally understand that many players don't like that. Now you can enable respawning and simply start from the last fast travel statue you activated! There's also the option to completely disable taking damage. These options are available on all difficulty settings and can be enabled/disabled on the fly.
Effects and graphics
Koji's had a bit of a graphical update with a smoother turning around animation and a much bouncier squishy impact animation! Fire, lightning and ice effects have all been greatly improved - the game is much flashier now.
Thanks to you all for playing, and stay tuned for more big news coming soon!

Free For Owl Update: features and fixes!
From the outset, I wanted to create Eagle Island to be an experience where you can play the game to best suit your needs - a challenge I took head-on to make roguelites more accessible without compromising the genre’s core ideas. So many people have been playing Eagle Island, thanks for stepping up to offer feedback and continuing to support the game since launch!
A sincere Thank You to everybody enjoying their time with Eagle Island. Our Discord community has been growing steadily and just surpassed 1000 members! Our award-winning game is soaring to new heights - and thanks to the community’s feedback, which has been instrumental in the development of this free patch, I’ve got a lot of great ideas for future features and additional content. My aim is to make this the best 2D roguelite platformer of 2019!
I'm adding to Eagle Island’s already thorough list of accessibility options, further allowing players to leverage in-game features for more personalized gameplay experiences.
I’ve pushed a bunch of features, rebalances and fixes in the upcoming patch, including some of the most requested features:

Lite Mode Update beta
Hey, I've been listening to your feedback and I've just finished developing a big patch, and it's available now in a public beta. Just choose the public_beta branch for Eagle Island (there's a how-to GIF at the bottom).
It includes a new difficulty mode, Lite, which only requires a 3x combo to earn health. Additionally, you'll be able to keep unused runestones and apply them as a loadout in future runs! You'll also get the chance to win extra runestones on the game over screen depending on how many monster's you've defeated.
I've also added a 360 degree aiming mode for Koji. This is a departure from Eagle Island's core design and may unbalance the game for you, but it's here for you to try!
Thanks to everyone who's been supportive and provided feedback so far! There have been a few patches already - you can check the changelog here. Most fixes involve making the minecarts easier.
What's coming soon in v1.0.8.0? I've received a LOT of feedback over the last few days, and one thing is very clear. Players are divided into two main categories: those who want to challenge themselves to learn the game/mechanics, and those who would rather go through the game with less challenge (presumably with a more Mario-like difficulty).
For those in the first category (want a challenge and learn the game/mechanics), not too much is changing. I'm patching and fixing any unfair parts so you won't be cheated.
For the latter category, I'm introducing a new difficulty mode - Lite. In this mode you'll be able to gain health by attaining a 3x combo (instead of 4x). You'll be offered the option (but not necessarily encouraged) to change the difficulty after having a few game-overs on a level. You'll have some bonus HP while fighting overworld bosses.
A question to prospective Lite difficulty players - would you like blue chests to contain 1 heart as well as gaining hearts from 3x combos? I need to make sure this mode has the correct settings and your feedback is required!
It'll go live on a beta branch - more info coming soon.
Eagle Island is out!
Eagle Island is LIVE! YES - it’s true! Thank you so much for your patience in this journey. My first video game is now available for you to play!
I’ve dreamed of being able to complete and launch a game for most of my life. With your excitement fueling my programming, it’s finally a reality. Not only did Eagle Island successfully fund on Kickstarter way back in 2017 the release on Steam, but it’s available on Nintendo Switch (NA) eShop right now, too! It’s been an amazing learning experience, of course. For example, Nintendo Switch (EU) eShop isn’t live yet (but it will be on July 16) - turns out the certification can be a real pain in the feathers.
Regardless - Thank you for playing and supporting Eagle Island.
Keep an eye out for merch soon!
Eagle Island coming to Switch and PC - July 11th!
Hello falconers, fans, and supporters!
It’s been an incredible journey and I’m thrilled to announce that Eagle Island will be available for purchase on July 11th - finally!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ng5553lW2zk
It goes without saying, but we’re incredibly thankful to our Kickstarter supporters, wish-listers, and Discord community members.
Explore Eagle Island with Koji, master the gameplay, and share your favourite moments with the in-game GIF editor. We’ll feature a few that are tagged #EagleIsland on our social pages - you can even capture GIFs from the demo, available now!
Stay tuned here for updates and future announcements.
