South Tunisia coming soon!

[p]Southern Tunisia is very close to nearing completion, with what's seeming to be 14 brand new missions. [/p][p]Here's what to expect:[/p]
  • [p]Gafsa Airfield Raid by US Paratroopers in November 1942[/p]
  • [p]Operation Frühlingswind and the battles of Faid Pass, Sidi-Bou-Zid, and Kasserine Pass--known as one of the most major losses by the United States in World War 2.[/p]
  • [p]German stalemates at Sbiba Gap, Tebessa and Thala[/p]
  • [p]English/Commonwealth advance on the Mareth Line in the South[/p]
  • [p]Final phase of the battle of El Guettar where American forces retake the valley region.[/p]
  • [p]Final German defense at the Tebaga Gap in April 1943 (leading to the events of the Northern Tunisia campaign)[/p]
[p]There are multiple tank-focused battles, featuring the involvement of many different factions! The allies featuring those seen previously in North Tunisia such as the United States, the United Kingdom, and France, but now accompanying them are New Zealander forces, Indian forces, and Gurkha forces, much like we saw in the Battle of Monte Cassino released a couple months back. With the heavy involvement of Italy in southern Tunisian operations, this brings the grand total of factions involved in this campaign to 8! [/p][p][/p][carousel][TAG-520][/carousel][p]To distinguish it from the currently existing Tunisia North, we are likely to release it as its own campaign-- likely titled "Southern Tunisia Operations", with the northern campaign renamed to "Northern Tunisia Operations". [/p][p][/p][p]Southern Tunisia is coming next update, and PC beta users can expect it in the coming weeks for testing! We sincerely hope you'll enjoy it. [/p][p][/p]

Hungary DLC Progress

[p]What would a Hungarian DLC be without the Hungarian Army?[/p][p]A wide range of uniforms, weapons, vehicles, and voice acting is currently being produced for the upcoming Hungary DLC, introducing the new Hungarian faction.[/p][p]Here is a very early sneak peek at what is currently being worked on. As always, we aim to be as historically accurate as we can with our uniforms. We are aware that this early showcase still contains a few elements that need adjustment to achieve a truly authentic representation of the Hungarian Army, but we are excited to share the progress made so far and hope you enjoy.[/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]As announced we have plenty late war weapons and vehicles being worked on for the Hungary DLC. Here's some of the ones recently finalized, of course with multiple camo variations:[/p][p][/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]We are also working on the Romanian Army. Below is a work-in-progress look at their uniform and loadout.[/p][p][TAG-590][/p][p][/p][p]In addition, significant progress is being made on buildings, props, and map development. Later, we will get to weapons and even more vehicles. We will be showing more on everything in the coming months... stay tuned![/p][p] [/p]

🌍 Upcoming Campaigns 🌍

[p] [/p]

Hungary Campaign

Early 2026, Mid 2026

[p]We are finally ready to announce the next DLC![/p][p]Our goal with this expansion is to bring new factions, many new weapons, and above all, a lineup of late-war vehicles to play on one of the bloodiest battles that Europe has ever seen![/p][p][/p]

The Battle of Hungary offers a great, unique setting for this criteria.

[p]It features two factions totally new to Easy Red: Hungary alongside Germany, and Romania alongside the Soviet Union (after switching sides in 1944).[/p][p]It also potentially includes a wide variety of authentic unique weapons such as the Mannlicher rifles, Mauser VZ.24, Danuvia submachine guns, Steyr-Solothurn MG30, PPS-42/43 and much more.[/p][p]You’ll also see powerful late-war vehicles like the late war Panther variants, Tiger II, Zrínyi II, late war T-34 and T34/85, IS-2 and more — including rare wartime technology such as infrared night vision on Panther tanks, one of the most advanced innovations of the era. Here's a WIP photo of the Panther rework currently underway, along with the night vision system! [/p][p][TAG-202][TAG-204][/p]

One Of Europe's Bloodiest City Battles

[p]The DLC will include key operations such as the Siege of Budapest, Operation Konrad, and Operation Spring Awakening, offering a mix of rural, urban, and suburban combat during the final months of the war in Europe.[/p][p]Operation Spring Awakening is known as the last major offensive launched by the Third Reich during World War II, a final effort by German forces to halt the Soviet advance through Hungary. [/p][carousel autoadvance="true"][TAG-230][p][/p][p]More information to come in the coming weeks and months on our official discord server.[/p][p][/p]

Southern Tunisia — Late 2025, Early 2026

[p]While Northern Tunisia and the "Run for Tunis" would mark the end of Axis forces in North Africa, Southern Tunisia and the Mareth Line would be a very important stepping stone on the way, being a heavily fortified position that Axis forces used to try and halt the Allied advance after their retreat from El Alamein. [/p][p]Just northwest of the Mareth Line lay the Atlas mountains, holding Kasserine and Kasserine pass. It is here in which occurred the first major engagement between American and German ground forces in WWII, and one of the largest losses for western allied forces early in the war. The rugged mountains of Kasserine and the surrounding area will prove in stark contrast to the wide open dunes of Mareth. Expect large tank battles over huge spaces, with a mix of both allies and axis on the defense! Also likely to come with this will be the British Crusader tank. The release of Southern Tunisia should be a great cap-off to the North African theater we plan to represent in base-game Easy Red 2, and we hope you'll love it too![/p][p][/p][p]The Southern Tunisia campaign is likely to release at the very beginning of 2026 if not the final weeks of 2025.[/p][p][/p]

🔄 Ongoing Upgrades Across the Whole Game

[p]While the roadmap highlights our biggest goals, a huge part of our daily development is the constant improvement of existing content.
Throughout 2025 and 2026, we’ll continue upgrading weapons, vehicles, uniforms, gear and historical details across all factions.[/p][p]Right now we're already working on a large batch of improvements—here’s a small preview:[/p]
  • [p]A full range of new and reworked British vests and equipment, improving historical accuracy and visual detail.
    [/p]
  • [p]A lineup of the new updated Soviet T-34, including new variants, models, textures, and functional improvements. [TAG-280][/p]
[p]These upgrades will roll out steadily with our regular updates, just like you've seen over the past years. Our goal is to make every single piece of equipment in Easy Red 2 feel authentic, polished, and satisfying to use.[/p][p][/p][p][/p]

🔍 A Note from the Team 🔍

[p][/p][p]This roadmap only outlines the major features and changes coming in the next several months.[/p][p]As always, we'll be working on smaller updates, bug fixes, and polishing regularly—just like we have for the past five years with monthly public updates. You can view our full history of changelogs here. [/p][p][/p][p]We owe our continued success to you, our dedicated community. Your feedback and suggestions have been invaluable, and your enthusiasm for Easy Red 2 motivates us to keep pushing the game forward. Thank you for spreading the word and being part of this journey. [/p][p][/p][p]We keep improving all features of the base game and as always we will be going on listening to suggestions from people inside the Steam Discussions, Reddit and the Discord server. [/p][p][/p][p]Stay tuned, and see you on the battlefield! [/p][p]Marco and the Easy Red 2 Team[/p]

Trailer 2.0

[p]Over the last year, the game has had nearly every single base-game map remade from the ground up, and among various improvements in animations, uniforms, and vehicles it looks entirely different to just a year ago today. Considering this, we've put together a brand-new trailer that now showcases its current state (which is sure to only get even better)—Enjoy![/p][p][/p]

Cassino Campaign

[p]Cassino previously was 2 missions within the Anzio campaign. In reality, the campaign around Monte Cassino and Anzio were two different major campaigns, and for that reason we remade Cassino as its own! [/p][carousel autoadvance="true"][TAG-170][p][/p][p]Now included are 15 original missions, beginning with the American advance to the Gustav line and key points from all 4 battles of Monte Cassino ranging from January to May 1944. Battle up and down the steeps of the Italian Apennine and flush Axis defenders out from the Gustav line, with the historical involvement of 7 different Allied factions partaking in the battle in game.

[p]It features two factions totally new to Easy Red 2: Hungary alongside Germany, and Romania alongside Soviet Union (after switching sides in 1944).[/p][p][/p][p]It also potentially includes a wide variety of authentic weapons such as the Mannlicher rifles, Mauser VZ.24, Danuvia submachine guns, Steyr-Solothurn MG30, PPS-42/43 and much more.[/p][p]You’ll also see powerful late-war vehicles like the late war Panther variants, Tiger II, the Hungarian Zrínyi II, late war T-34 and T34/85, IS-2 and more — including rare wartime technology such as infrared night vision on Panther tanks, one of the most advanced innovations of the era, and the only instance of night vision technology being used by tank commanders in WW2 for combat. [/p][p][/p][p]Below is a photo of the WIP Panther tank rework currently underway along with the night vision modification on top![/p][p][/p][p][/p]

We also have many new features and content planned to come in next many months!

[p]South Tunisia campaign, dynamically deployable MGs and mortars, the ability to reconstruct destroyed defenses and sandbag walls, and much more.[/p][p]You can read about our new Roadmap here:[/p][p][dynamiclink href="https://store.steampowered.com/news/app/1324780/view/753916171125786050"][/p][p][/p]

Another WW2 Project Worth Checking Out!

[p][/p][p]Our friends at De Generals Studio are also preparing a new update for their World War II game Tank Squad, releasing around the same time as this anniversary patch![/p][p]If you enjoy tactical tank gameplay and crew management in realistic battlefields, it’s definitely worth a look.[/p][p]You can find Tank Squad on Steam here: [/p][p][dynamiclink href="https://store.steampowered.com/app/1498130/Tank_Squad/"][/p]

  • Many other smaller fixes

Let's get right into the headliners of this update-- major and extensive pacific campaign remakes, new vehicles, and various enhanced customization options!

Kwajalein, Roi-Namur & Makin Remakes

The pacific campaigns of Easy Red 2 (Kwajalein, Roi-Namur, and Makin) have been totally remade from the ground up. Most missions have a completely different look and feel-- with much more content in general: new squad types, more interesting and historically accurate detailed maps, many brand new missions, and a higher level of uniqueness between each of the 3 campaigns.

Some of the biggest additions to the campaigns besides the islands themselves would certainly be the iconic LVT landing craft and tank variants (LVTa) previously showcased in earlier posts. Now, most of the landing missions in the campaigns revolve around these new vehicles! Japanese tanks have also been totally reworked, with all of them brought up to a proper standard we find appropriate. The Ha-Go as well as the Ka-Mi have been redone, with the Ka-Mi getting an extra variant to accompany the amphibious flotation device attachment, allowing it to swim in water. Also, the beloved US divebomber, the SBD Dauntless, has been added.

New Marine and Army HBT uniforms have been added, including the 7th Infantry Division's checkerboard identifier panels as well as Kwajalein's 7th ID unique camo helmets. Additionally, all USMC uniforms now have a bloused variant, where the soldiers pants are not tucked all the way into his boots: an iconic look for marines in the pacific theater.

Kwajalein and Roi-Namur are now much more accurate to the real terrain and devastation that occurred in real life, where the island had been described by a marine as if "it had been picked up 20,000 feet and then dropped". In contrast to this, Makin island looks more like your typical "tropical paradise".

We're more than happy to share with you these campaign remakes, and feel now they're truly up to a great standard for Easy Red 2 in 2025, and hope you enjoy them.

Here's a fan-made trailer for the pacific campaign rework by Tracid FM.

Stalingrad Rework

Stalingrad had its major rework around this time last year. While its visual standard was brought up greatly for the time, we felt we could do even better now. The map now is much more detailed, and missions have been reworked as well for better balancing and vehicle variety. With this also comes the totally reworked soviet uniforms, being not only far better looking but much more accurate!

New Gameplay Options

Acknowledging common feedback about AI and overall difficulty, we understand there are players who would like more forgiving gameplay, and others who expect a hardcore challenge where the player has the same survival rate as any other unit on the field.

Our team's vision definitely leans toward a easy-to-pick-up WW2 simulator, so we don't intend to make the game more arcade-like. However, we decided to accommodate arcade-like fans by reworking how difficulty settings work.

Players can now fully customize difficulty settings with tons of new sliders and buttons: modify AI accuracy, explosion radius, suppression effects, player damage, disable player auto-surrender, change stamina duration, gun overheat values, bullet gravity and more. Now you can change the gameplay to fit your preferences, or simply provide a way to play with different rules to break up repitition. You can create and save your difficulty presets, but the game will still offer default suggested presets that recreate how we intend the game to be played.

As always, whenever mission settings are changed to values that make gameplay unbalanced or too easy, achievement unlocking will be disabled as a way to encourage players to experience the intended difficulty settings.
Multiplayer menu list will also display what parameters have been set for the room, so you can evaluate carefully before joining a multiplayer match.

This comes after listening to and interacting with our community through the Discord server, r/EasyRed2 subreddit and various other social networks in order to realize this system in a way that pays honor to the original formula of Easy Red 2, but also expanding the sandbox idea of the game to offer a more customizable experience.

Upcoming Reworks & Future plans

With the pacific campaigns now remade, we are setting full mapping attention forward onto the Anzio and Cassino remakes, in which the original Anzio campaign is being split into two maps with likely many more missions. More details to come as it is developed more, so keep an eye on our discord! As always, alongside this work will be development improving old weapons, vehicles, and uniforms already in-game.

Once the Italian campaign rework is complete, we have several exciting ideas we can work on, including South Tunisia and Iwo Jima, along with early concepts for a larger, more ambitious campaign. We’ll properly reveal our future roadmap in a dedicated post soon—stay tuned!

Next, a bit more information on the Battle of the Bulge (Bastogne) rework.

Battle of the Bulge Rework

We've been spending lots of time constantly improving the standards for Easy Red 2 campaigns. Recently, we initiated the reworks for Anzio, Kwajalein, Roi Namur, and Makin. With these underway (and the pacific ones all near completed), we thought about what other campaigns would be left behind quality-wise. The first that came to mind was our Battle of the Bulge campaign, included in our 1940/1944 Ardennes DLC. We figured that the missions were unbalanced, there was not enough mission/vehicle variety, and the environment itself could use much more work.

With this rework, we've upped the fidelity of the environment greatly, with many more hedgerows for cover among many improvements in general terrain detail and less smooth/"plastic" looking environments. We also fully detailed the namesake city of Bastogne, with one of the three new missions taking place there in a special wave defense gametype! All missions across the board have been rebalanced for better gameplay on both sides, with much better objective sizes as well as units present.

We also upped the vehicle variety in the campaign. Now the German side has the Sd.Kfz 222, the Sd.Kfz 250, the Panzer IV Wirblewind, and the Bf-110, with the American side now having access to the M8 Greyhound, the M36 Jackson, and the GMC CCKW.

We hope to see you all enjoy the changes and quality of life improvements. Feel free to direct any feedback to our Discord server.

If you don't have it yet, get the Ardennes 1940/44 DLC here to see the rework for yourself!

Upcoming Remakes and Reworks

There's tons of great progress with the pacific overhaul for Easy Red 2. Tons of new assets have been added to the maps to bring the quality of the environments a great step forward. Among these are the new pacific huts and sheds, Japanese bunkers, pillboxes and blockhouses, as well as new beach defenses such as the log cribs and Japanese dragon's teeth defenses.

Alongside these visual upgrades, all campaigns are receiving several new missions with new historically accurate units, weapons, and vehicle utilization, as well as the maps being totally re-done from the ground up. They will be in the PC's beta branch soon-- and they'll more than likely be in the game by next month's update, so be on the look for them soon!

Now let's spend few works into the biggest changes and additions of the update!

The A.I.

This latest update brings a massive overhaul to the way AI infantry behaves on the battlefield, and it’s one of the most exciting changes for players craving a more dynamic and challenging experience.

AI units now spread out more naturally, avoiding the often reported "Conga Lines" issue, advance with greater tactical thought, and duck prone under suppression more often.

They’ll react more intelligently to nearby threats, make smarter targeting decisions, and handle close-quarters combat with noticeably improved finesse.

Even vehicle AI has inherited parts of these improvements, especially when it comes to acquiring targets.
All of this means that each firefight will feel fresher and more unpredictable—perfect for veterans who have seen it all and newcomers who want to feel truly tested.

Bombers system

An entirely new gameplay system has been added with the introduction of bomber planes and AI. Both vanilla and modded bombers now have their own role on the battlefield: they perform bombing runs over the front lines, then retreat while avoiding enemy flak fire and engaging hostile fighters with their turrets. Like any other vehicle in the game, this system can be controlled by either the AI or a player.

While this system is currently available on the vanilla Japanese G3M, more bombers will be added later on.
A timed fuse Flak shell is currently available on the German 88mm Flak 36. This specific kind of shell can be used to target any plane, however they are better suited for high altitude bombers.

Amphibious system

Along with the upcoming Pacific campaigns, we are including several new assets and features, such as thew new Pacific props, new US uniforms, and also this new Amphibious system. Many vehicles already supports it in game, but the biggest addition are definitely the LVT transport troop and tank variants!

Campaign Information

Bastogne Rework

Some guessed it already (and many guessed incorrectly), but the non-pacific campaign being reworked/upgraded is the Battle of the Bulge Campaign! It will come with tons of upgraded visual detail and all missions totally rebalanced to be more fun and varied. The map file will also be renamed Bastogne, and the city itself is now going to be a playable location with much detail in the streets added.

Along with this campaign rework there will be 3 entirely new missions-- all focusing on the German offensive, and most involving large scale armored/tank gameplay. Here's a few in-game screenshots from various missions, some of which being from totally new ones! The rework is going to be out in BETA within the next weeks, and will more than likely be in the next mainline update.

Kwajalein and Roi Namur Remakes

As many of you know from the previous update post, Kwajalein and Roi-Namur are being entirely remade from the ground up. They're still work in progress, but here's some images from them now! Likely to be coming into BETA in the next month or two, along with the similarly vast Makin rework.

Here are some images from the Makin rework as well, which will be paired with the remade campaigns!

Small improvements are already being tested in the public beta, with more on the way!

Map + Mission News

Pacific Overhaul: Kwajalein and Roi-Namur Remakes

We’ve been calling Kwajalein and Roi-Namur “reworks,” but honestly, they’re complete remakes. That means new maps, new missions, new vehicles, new squads, new uniforms and vests, new buildings—you name it. These maps will be scaled more accurately and resemble historical imagery far more closely.

Map teaser images will be shared soon—catch them first in our official community Discord!

Expect a release in early to mid-summer this year.

Here are some screenshots of the LVT vehicles being made for the update—find even more in our Discord!

Makin Rework

Makin was voted the least favorite map in our 2025 Future Campaign poll—and it’s not hard to see why. It’s one of the weaker maps in the base game. That’s why it’s also being reworked alongside Kwajalein and Roi-Namur.

While it won’t be a totally new map like the others, it’s undergoing significant changes to make it more faithful to the real-world location. Teasers coming soon—again, first in our Discord.

All three maps will likely release together as a full Pacific overhaul.

Anzio Remake

Anzio—ER2’s first campaign—is also getting a full remake. It’s being split into two new maps: Anzio and Cassino.

Don’t worry—there will be more missions overall than in the current version. The new Anzio map will take players from the shores of Nettuno to the inland towns of Cisterna and Aprilia, covering Mediterranean winter farmlands and forests.

Cassino will feature not only Monte Cassino and the town itself, but also the Gustav Line, nearby mountain ranges, and river battles.

You can expect this remake and the new Cassino campaign by late summer or early fall.

Unannounced Campaign Rework

One more campaign is getting a full rework—including new map additions, enhanced visuals, updated missions, improved squads and vehicles, and three entirely new missions. Coming out in June.

Can you guess which campaign it is…? You’ll hear about it first in the Discord in the coming weeks!

The Future of Easy Red 2 and our Considerations Going Forward

Hello everyone,

Recently we asked you what campaigns you wanted to see next in Easy Red 2.
Here are the results of our latest poll. There are many interesting insights we can draw from these outcomes.

Most Requested Campaigns

So to recap, after more than 3000 votes, the most requested campaigns were:

  • Mid-Late War Chinese Campaign: 29.1%
  • Non-WW2 Campaign: 24.7% (This includes in order: Korean War, Vietnam War and WW1)
  • Spanish Civil War: 20%
  • Berlin Invasion / Seelow: 18.3%
  • Winter War: 18.1%
  • Invasion of Poland: 14.9%
  • Battle of Iwo Jima: 14.6%

Our Considerations

We have carefully analyzed the results, which ultimately turned out to be quite unexpected. Our team is highly excited about the possibilities ahead, and we’d like to speak with you about our considerations going forward.

Quick-to-Implement Campaigns

Campaigns such as the Mid-Late War Chinese and Iwo Jima could require only a few additional elements to be implemented, meaning they may not need to be released as full DLCs. While we are still determining which major DLC campaign to pursue after this year’s reworks and additions, we believe we could possibly release a free Iwo Jima campaign within this year and later on also include a Late-War Chinese campaign as a free addition to the newly released Shanghai-Nanking DLC.

We are continually evolving our techniques and are confident that, in the future, we will be able to offer more free content that leverages existing assets. This approach will allow us to deliver updates more quickly without requiring the entire team to focus exclusively on these projects, all while maintaining high quality. For example, the extensive assets we are developing for Italy (for both the Anzio rework and Italian uniforms reworks that are currently in progress) could enable us to create additional content featuring Italian troops in Italy or the Stalingrad region with minimal extra effort.

Future DLC Campaigns

Besides that, we believe that a DLC should introduce a new scenario with as much fresh content as possible—new vehicles, weapons, uniforms, buildings, and possibly even new factions. Some campaigns that would require this level of effort include the Non-WW2 campaigns (with the Korean War and Vietnam War being among the most requested), the Spanish Civil War, the Winter War, and the Invasion of Poland. We would also include the Berlin Invasion to this list, primarily because it would necessitate various late-war vehicles and very specific German city buildings.

Although we have begun seriously considering non-WW2 campaigns, we believe that our AI needs further development before we can confidently depict battles that introduced new types of vehicles and tactics. Additionally, we still need to work on implementing new WW2 vehicle types—such as tactical long-range bombers—before moving on to more modern ones like helicopters.

We were pleasantly surprised to see the Spanish Civil War achieve such a significant result. It’s a campaign I would personally love to see; however, the guerrilla tactics involved would require further evolution of our AI. For similar reasons, we feel that a WW1 scenario could also benefit from additional AI development time.

Looking Ahead

The Winter War, Invasion of Poland, and the Battle of Berlin were the three campaigns we truly expected to see stand out in the poll, as they have consistently ranked among the most popular in previous polls. As we feel that ER2 should expand with more content, factions, and weaponry, our team is in agreement that this criteria is especially met through a Winter War campaign. We believe the Winter War will also allow us to develop new Eastern European assets that can be reused to enhance the Stalingrad campaign further and simplify the creation of a future Eastern European campaign—including an Invasion of Poland scenario.

However, both the Battle of Berlin and the Invasion of Poland are also significant campaigns we hope to see in the game one day. As many of you know, we have been postponing the development of certain later-war German, American, and Soviet vehicles and weapons to reserve them for a possible Berlin campaign. While we wait for the right moment, we might release some of these vehicles early to lay the groundwork for that possibility and provide mission makers with more tools for their own creations.

Remember that before moving into the development of such new campaigns, we would like to prioritize the upcoming reworks of Anzio and Montecassino (consisting of splitting them into 2 different campaigns and maps), as well the reworks of Kwajalein and Roi-namur. We also still plan to bring the Southern Tunisia campaign for free in the game as well.

Final Thoughts

We would like to emphasize that these considerations took weeks for our team to formulate, and since many aspects will be reworked in the coming months, we do not yet have a precise roadmap for these projects. The only certainty is that the game has been able to deliver more content each year at an accelerated pace and with improved quality—and we intend for 2025 and future years to further continue this trend.

Thank you so much everyone and best regards,
Marco and the Easy Red 2 Development Team
