Empire TV Tycoon 1.2.0

The Empire TV Tycoon 1.2.0 patch includes a new feature for the game, custom mode, among other minor improvements and bug fixes.

The game is now fully translated to German thanks to Scocher24 and Kadele, with their MASSIVE HELP and work translating the different texts, movies, etc. This is the first of the planned translations, but not the only one, more translations will come.

Custom mode
One of our priorities with Empire TV Tycoon development has always been replayability. We want to give you the chance to experience different kind of games each time you play and with this patch we want to introduce you the Custom mode.

With custom mode you now can fully customize lots of options for your game, some of them are: defining winning conditions like fame, audience or endless play, removing audience groups you don't like, change the number of audience bans you want for the game, defining various monetary options and the most important: you can randomize the likes of every audience group making every game feel like a fresh start as you discover what they like or dislike.

Bugs fixes:
- fixed a bug that displayed incorrect episode numbers on the management screen when the tv shows were larger than 1 block
- fixed some tv shows which had an incorrect number of episodes
- different minor bugs fixed

Empire TV Tycoon 1.1.0

This is the first major patch for Empire TV. With this patch we want to address some of the feedback that we received during this past month since the release of the game in steam. We’ve also added many new features and minor improvements as we could in this short time.

Endless Mode

This is the first iteration of the endless game mode. Now, when you start a game, you can choose to play in arcade or endless mode. Endless mode will let you play without the pressure of the competition, you can develop your tv channel at your own pace. You will never lose the game going bankrupt (money can still be a problem) and getting behind in fame will only hurt your ego, the audience will love you anyway!

Arcade mode is the same mode we had before, a race vs the others channels to see who is the first to reach 300 fame in normal difficulty or 600 fame in advanced/expert difficulties. When one channel reach the fame cap, wins, and the game ends. At this point, thanks to the addition of endless mode, whether you win or lose the game you can keep playing that same game in endless mode seamlessly.

AIs and Upgrades

We have reworked the way in which the AIs buy upgrades, so first we had to normalize the fame score system for Advanced and Expert modes, now the fame you get in those modes is the same that in normal mode, +3 for winning the audience in on block, +2 for second place and +1 for third place.

Now the AIs will always buy the upgrades when they have enough fame, so the IAs no longer insta buy the upgrades when you do.

The only exception to this are the two audience upgrades, and only in arcade mode, to maintain the race interesting. When you buy the audience upgrades the AIs will wait a prudential time and then buy them, you will still have some hours of advantage over the AIs if you buy the upgrades first.

Channel customization

We want to give players a little bit more control over what their channel is about and what content to schedule. For this reason we implemented some new features for the game.

When you start a new game you can specialize your channel in a genre, doing so you will get certain advantages in that genre.

We’ve introduced two new features to the game: audience bans and channel news.

Audience bans are free and you will get a fixed amount of bans each day (number changes with difficulty). It will give you the option to remove audience groups from the sofa at a given time. Let's say we have women and geeks in one hour and we want to schedule a sci-fi movie there, we can use one audience ban and remove the woman, leaving just the geek group at the sofa ready to watch our sci-fi movie.

Channel news are a new kind of block usable on the marketing column. News are genre specific, have a cost and a variable number of blocks (the news reset every day).

Each news block have two purposes. First, it adds a flat percent audience increase in its own genre. Second, and most important, it will add one audience group based on its genre to the sofa, if there is enough room.

Best Movie Award

We wanted to give more importance to the movies that win the best movie award (besides the fame and gold prize). If you are lucky enough to win the award with one of your productions or buy a winner movie produced by the AI, you will be able to broadcast it on your channel with a flat viewer audience bonus based on the production and state of the game.

Linux is back

After some changes we have reenabled the linux version but it will only work for Ubuntu 12.04+ and SteamOS+.

Other changes

- Added two new types of production: mini series (5 ep. tv shows) and long duration tv shows (15 ep.)
- New tooltip at the audience numbers that tells you all the audience bonus of the movie being broadcasted on your channel
- New tooltips for difficulties and game modes in the new game menu
- Now movies carry a lot more audience over the next movie block.
- The -by player- tag is now highlighted to help differentiate content
- Added a few more daily quest to complement the endless mode
- Changed the fame bar to show the three channel's fame
- Work finished and daily quest mails are deleted automatically after a day
- After a short identity crisis, the musicians are back to being rockers
- Children no longer watch the tv after 10 pm, but they appear more often in the afternoon
- Some audience groups had minor changes in their likes
- Rebalanced the money cost of actors
- Rebalanced the salary of the workers
- You can now resign your game at anytime
- Graphical and color improvements in some screens of the game
- The pink screen and the production bugs are finally fixed
- Fixed some minor bugs

This patch includes features and adjustments to core functionalities, because of it this version is incompatible with any savegame prior to 1.1.0.

We are sorry that we don't have the game in german yet, we hope to have it fully translated before christmas (big thanks to the community members who are contributing to it!).

We are really happy with this patch, those new features will get even better and more content will be added over time. We are a small team of two people and we want to keep improving the game more and more, in fact we already working in a way to make custom games where you will be able to select the parameters of every game. Empire TV Tycoon 1.0.2

And a new one! More a hotfix than a patch.

This time includes:

- Fixing some things to finally avoid the pink screen bug (we will see).
- Added an option in the menu to turn on/off the audience smiles.
- You can now edit the text of the scripts or erase it to make your own.
- The worker animation is working again.

By the way, we can't deploy a new patch each day, this are exceptions! haha :P

Empire TV Tycoon 1.0.1

One week ago we released Empire Tv Tycoon on Steam and we couldn't be more grateful, so far everything is going well and we got valuable feedback from all of you.

Currently we are working on improving the game as much as we can and trying to make it more user friendly, really soon you will see the first pass of endless mode and also we are reworking the system that handles how the IA buy the upgrades in order to be more fair for the player. Fame punctuation system in advanced and expert mode will suffer changes too to behave exactly like normal mode.

This new patch includes:

- Renamed the name of the patches, no more silly letters.
- Fixed some minor bugs.
- Made some changes to prevent the pink screen bug (we hope it’s finally gone).
- key should no longer stop working when going in conflict with secondary mouse button.
- You can now sort movies by rating in the movie buy/sell windows.
- The quest warning now disappears if you schedule something that meets the requirements for the optional quest.
- The movie award warning now says which genre you will need for the awards and the npc will be gone, if you have already submitted a production, when loading a saved game.


Lastly, but not less important. We are aware that the feedback the game gives to you when broadcasting a production in TV was a bit incomplete (remember that the best way to get this knowledge is looking at the statistics board in your office and compare results).

In order to fix this we have implemented a feature so you will now be able to see what the current audience thinks of the content that is being broadcasted. If you look closely at the audience (bottom right) you will notice that they now express their reactions to the production that is being selected on the TV (bottom left). This will give you a small hint about what to program for every kind of audience.

And that’s all.. for now!

Another quick patch with some tweaks.

- Fixed more bugs.
- Fixed some tooltips.
- Added a new warning window, to help you remember important things.
-The Rockers are now Musicians, a bit less gothic, however they still like a good horror movie.
- Increased the freshness recovery rate in advanced and expert difficulties.
- The Mail and the log window have been moved in higher resolutions.

This is not the endless mode patch, bear in mind that we still need to fix things and keep improving the game while we are working on it.

- Doubled the speed of the elevator. YAY!
- You can pause the game with space bar. However you can't pause it while programing your channel window and in the statistics panel. This is intended because we want to give a fixed amount of time to the player to assume this kind of decisions.
- Reduced the cost of marketing campaigns.
- Tripled the speed of freshness recharge rate for movies and tv-shows in normal difficulty.
- Reduced the cost of the upgrades for normal difficulty in order to do the transition between the different audience stages smoother.

On a side note, we consider the normal difficulty as the one in which new players learn how to play the game, because of this, game ends faster and everything is easier with large bonus to money and audiences. If you ended the game in normal and you won by a large fame margin over the competition we strongly recommend you to play the game in advanced difficulty.

Empire TV Tycoon Release!

Today we are proud to finally release Empire TV Tycoon on Steam and we just want to take this time to extend our gratitude to all those people that helped us testing the game and gave their feedback, making the game even better.

Dreamsite Games is an indie team of 2 people, and we have been working on Empire TV Tycoon for some time now. However, not all the features that we had planned have made their way into the final game, because we had to cut somewhere to be able to release it. That doesn't meant that the game is finished and that we stop working on it, on the opposite, after the release we will still work on the game, catch and fix as many bugs as we can, and also introduce new features with future patches.

Some of the things and new features that we would want to add are:

- More of everything (movies, tv shows, actors, daily events, production events, etc.).
- Adding the remaining graphics to some daily events that are currently missing, and adding even more graphics to the others.
- Translations (german and russian coming soon!)
- More options and decisions in the process of creating your own content.
- Random rare events, f.ex. “someone sells you a mysterious script or rare movie”.
- Sequels for movies and second seasons for tv shows.
- Auction system, to win the rights of special events or tv shows.
- Adult content, for the late hours of the night ;)
- Token system, win tokens by completing quest, and spend them in special bonuses
- Sabotage system, a way to sabotage the other channels productions or their tv schedule.
- Multiplayer, play with 2 friends and compete to see who is the best.

Well those are things that we always had in mind for the game, However, truth be told, some of them may, or may not, ever come to light, because we are a small team and we have to focus on what is most important first.

We wanted to share this with you and sincerely hope that you enjoy our game.

Launch date announcement

20th October is the day that Empire TV Tycoon will see the light. We are still fixing the latest bugs, polishing some things, working on texts and translations and trying to have everything ready for the big event!
