Endica VII: The Dream King

The Dream King is going to be free soon

I am taking The Dream King down off of Steam and making it a free download on my website.
http://dreamwithin.us

I am working on a few new games now.
Thank you for following us and for all of your support.

Windows 7 Fix

New patch is live that should fix problems booting for some Windows 7 users. I could use a confirmation on this, so if you had problems booting the game up and you use Win 7, give it a try now and let me know if it works!

The patch also fixes other miscellaneous bugs reported in the discussions.

Co-op Metroidvania load time fixed!

Only two days left on our Steam Summer Sale where you can get a 4-Player local cooperative "Metroidvania" indie game for only $1!

This new 1.22 Update will reduce the load time by 1/3! Now the game should boot faster than it ever has in the past. I understand how a long load time can be bothersome, especially on lower end computers, so I have gone the extra mile in order to reduce the load time for everyone. On my machine, I can boot the game in exactly 30 seconds!

There might be a few new bugs and crash errors introduced in this new patch, so if you find any please feel free to report them in the discussions found on the store front page.

There is a problem that some Windows 7 users are experiencing where they cannot boot the game. I am still in the process of fixing this problem, my apologies to whoever this applies to.

I will keep you updated with more info as we go. Soon: Mac, Ubuntu, and Mobile release dates announced!

New Quick Fix Patch 1.21!

New patch fixes a lot of minor crash errors some users were experiencing.

*Fixed a bug that caused Weather Effects like leaves to lag the game
*Fixed the title screen, caused lag or crashes on some machines
*Fixed a bug that throws an error when loading a save that's not there
*Fixed an Easy Only bug that caused bats to crash the game
*Fixed misc NPC Text and Chat boxes
*Fixed an area that Tom couldn't jump up out of (in a cave outside of Kita)
*Added more critters to the Rain Forest

Among others minor fixes here and there.

Quick Patch Coming Soon

A few new errors appeared with the new compiler, so a quick patch is necessary. I am still in the middle of a move so it might be a few days but it is coming very soon.

It will include fixes to a few new crash errors and hopefully all serious fatal bugs that only a few users are experiencing. Thanks for your patience and understanding.

Biggest Update Ever is now Live!! (TDK 1.2!)

(Edit: 4/10/16 - The Xbox 360 Gamepads work 100% fine now! Use MotioninJoy to get PS3 and other gamepads working as well!)

Hi everyone, sorry it took me so long but the massive update is now available, simply restart Steam in order to download it. It makes the game run smoother overall, and it also fixes tons of little things here and there, some of it is listed below. However, your save files need to be moved from one folder to another if you wish to use your old save data from before today. My apologies for this inconvenience! There is a tutorial for that
located here.

-LIST OF CHANGES-

Loading time is the same, but now there is a Loading Screen and it shouldn't crash or hang anymore.

Uses a new compiler which should boost the frame rate immensely, it should run at max on most PC's nearly 100% of the time now. (You'll notice that it's a lot smoother and more polished now)

Added in Fade Out/In Transitions for going from Room to Room. (Really makes everything feel smoother as well)

Added a brand new sprite for the very first Snail Boss fight. (Changed his and smaller snails attacks a bit)

Added a tracer effect for all dashing characters when they dash. (Regardless of whether or not the tracer effects option is on or not)

Music is compressed a bit differently but is now Stereo. (Right and Left)

Fixed a bug that caused the players to "stutter" or "stick" to the ceiling (A Studio error that was very annoying, when they bumped their heads on the ceiling it caused problems)

Fixed it to where now you can push a button to cycle through almost all of the text in the game manually. (The rest of it will be finished in the next patch)

Fixed the first few areas now have even less enemies in Single Player Mode (so that the player doesn't get overwhelmed immediately)

Fixed the death explosions for various larger enemies.

Fixed an error that was caused by rapidly pausing the game over and over.

Fixed it to where Alt+Enter Switches Screen Modes without accidentally Pausing or Unpausing the game.

Fixed it to where coins move around a little more naturally and less in unison with one another. Also, coinbags can randomly give a lot more than before.

Each Difficulty Setting now gives you a different starting amount of Gold.
(Easy +1000, Normal +500, Hard +0, Extreme *0)

Fixed Cenedra to be a bit floatier than before as she was originally intended to be, her blasts also go a bit further than everyone else now.

Because this is a brand new version of the game, some new bugs might have popped up that I am unaware of. Feel free to report them in the discussions area.

More bug fixes and additions are coming in the future, I will make a list of what needs to be done next and keep you updated on when the next patch will be made available. Until then, I hope you all enjoy this one, I am really excited about it myself to be honest! The game is also 60% off in price for two weeks starting today, so please tell your friends! Thank you again!

Getting Old Save Files to work in the new Patch! (IMPORTANT!!)

The newest patch redoes and fixes a lot of things, it is a huge update that even makes the game run smoother overall. Your save files from the past still work, however you need to move them from one folder to another.

You need to go to:
C:\Users\(Your Profile Name)\AppData\Local

Use the profile name you are using on your computer right now where it says (Your Profile Name). If you try to find the folder manually it might be hidden and invisible, so you can just type it in like it is above instead to find it quicker.

First, from there you will see a folder called:
Endica VII The Dream King

Secondly, your Save Files will now be stored in a folder called:
Endica_VII_The_Dream_King

(This newer folder with underscroes will create itself if you play the new patch and try to save your game, but if it doesn't exist yet go ahead and create it.)

You will need to copy and paste all of the .ini files from the first folder "Endica VII The Dream King", into the newest folder "Endica_VII_The_Dream_King" that uses underscores.

So select the .ini files, Right Click them, Select Copy, then go to the new folder and Right Click, then Select Paste.

It's as simple as that! Sorry about the inconvenience! I hope everyone enjoys the new update!

Loading Screen

Having difficulty bringing down the overall load time, so what I might do now is give it a rest for a little while since it's eating up so much time that I could be spending fixing other things.

In the meantime, I will implement a loading splash screen (instead of the current black screen) so that players know that the game isn't crashing. Rest assured that it isn't crashing upon startup, all you have to do is leave it be and let it load for roughly one minute and it should run perfectly fine.

The good news from all of this is now I can get back to work on more important things. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Update Coming! Also, Multiple Translations soon

Fixing the black screen / long load time right now, it has taken me quite a long time but it will be available soon. We are also going to work on a lot of other fixes, like being able to cycle through dialogue and so on.

We are also translating The Dream King into multiple languages such as Japanese, German, Spanish, and more. There will be more updates posted as they occur. Thank you for being patient and for all of your support.

Larger Update Coming Within the Week

A hefty update coming soon, fixes a lot of things that aren't bugs like load time.

For those who have problems loading the game just wait patiently and it should load in time, I am going to try my best to fix this and other types of things like that.

Another example: There are less enemies in Single Player but I can fix it to where there are even fewer so that the game is more enjoyable for people going solo.

Just fyi it's meant to be played with friends, it enhances the overall experience many times over. I did add an A.I. that follows you at the last minute and it's enjoyable too but nothing compares to the experiences you can have when playing with friends! It's a blast!
