TEMPLE OF RUST - OUT NOW!

UPDATE v 1.56

New intro scene and a few gameplay and audio visual enhancements... Updating ENYO Arcade to version 1.56.

Here a list of changes:

  • Added a new scene when breaking out of the initial tank
  • Weapons are now no longer all available from every dispenser (This might have been long overdue to have a more "classical" weapon progression, let me know what you think abut this in the comments!)
  • Added 'Auto Zooming' each room now has it's own zoom setting (Can be deactivated in the options menu if you prefer to use a fixed zoom setting)
  • Added splatter sounds to enemy death fx
  • Done a few more rendering tweaks (nothing major)
  • Sorted package data
  • As always some other things that I've lost track of...

If you notice anything strange then let me know.

And I have a little *HAPPY* announcement to make soon!

Thanks for the thumbs up and comments to you all! Nice to see you all!

UPDATE v1.55

It's been allmost 5 years since the last update but here we go... Updating ENYO Arcade to version 1.55.

This was holding me back for a while since it was a lot of work that doesn't involve much added features. So don't expect any new content quite yet but this allows me to continue working on the game in the future. Also it should improve the performance. Also the file size for future updates should be reduced.

Here a list of changes:

  • Updated source code to GMS 2.3
  • Reformatted all levels to use new data structures
  • Reworked level loading
  • Reworked and optimized player code
  • Added grace time and coyote time to player jump (you can now jump a few frames late or early off ground)
  • Reworked internal functions for weapons and player data
  • Reworked background renders
  • Reworked renderer and shaders
  • Added LUT shader to change color lookup (mostly so I can check the color and readability but maybe I'll add some funky colors someday)
  • Fixed a few inconsistencies
  • Reworked internal handling of Steam Leaderbords (So I had to reset them, sorry)
  • Save system handling has changed too! So savegames are reset. (If you copy and rename the old "enyo_dataLossR151107" from your local AppData folder to the location of the new "ENYOSV001" file and rename it to that - it should work, but it will only update the leaderbords if you beat your old times so I would not recommend it) I'll look into the steamcloud file system next and hope to add that functionality.
  • Reworked the AI of the Zombies and they are a lot less agressive right now but that may change...
  • Reworked the in game menus (Pause, Level End, Weapon Swap etc...)
  • Reworked lots of internal structures
  • Removed V-Synch option (the game should default to the system settings)
  • lots of other things that I've lost track of...

I've tested it a few times but if you notice anything strange then let me know.

Overall I've done a bunch of thinking and lost a bit of sleep but I'm happy to see that there are still a few out there besides me that enjoy this digital toy. So I'm looking forward to see what the future holds for this game and I'm always open to feature requests and feedback!

So as always, shout outs are welcome and feel free to start discussions in the community hub!

ENYO Arcade Update Coming Soon!

Originally I started out developing this game in Flash Action Script. Then I moved to GameMaker after testing a whole load of engines and frameworks.

The final version I released on steam was built with GameMaker Studio 1.4.
Since the release of ENYO Arcade there have been quite a few improvements to the engine and also a whole new version (v2). I've been using these newer versions for a while now and feel comfortable with bringing ENYO Arcade into this new format.

I gave it a shot last year, but wasn't to happy with the results. Because GM2 changes a lot in the way tilemaps work within the engine. So I would have had to rebuild all levels with the new system and I was just to busy with my life to get hooked on that type of task.

Now I decided to try it again and built some tools to hep me automate the process and finished a large portion of the groundwork today. So now I can start optimizing and will release ENYO Arcade v1.6 soon!

This update might not change anything noticeable yet (aside from a light performance boost) but it lays the foundation for me to further work on this game with better tools and that is AWESOME!

I still enjoy this game and am looking forward to working on it again to bring it to it's full potential.

Best regards,
James

Temple of Rust: Back to PAID

It's been a few ruff months for me lately and I seriously had to rethink how I'm going to move forward...

If I want to complete Temple of Rust and if it's going to be good, I will eventually have to make at least enough money with it to survive and recoup some of the investments I've made during the development. I've tried my best to carry the development by busking and have spent all my personal savings. I'm still thinking about trying Kickstarter. But that just won't go well for a free game in my opinion.

I try my best not to bother you folks with my personal worries and troubles because I'm sure you all have your load to carry.
Anyway, back to the point:

Temple of Rust will get a price tag again.
(And I won't be able to undo that! The transition will happen sometime on Monday 9th September!)

If you install Temple of Rust now (and tell your friends to do it!) then you can keep it for as long as it's installed. So I recommend you do that and spread the word!

If you have donated to Temple of Rust then please let me know in the comments or on my profile and I'll give you a permanent key!

I guess that's all for now...

Leave a comment to let me know what you think.

Sincerely,
James

PS: ENYO Arcade will remain free.

This won't be easy...

I really want to make this game. But it's been quite a ruff ride and I cannot afford the development alone any longer. So I need your help to make this happen!

I'm preparing a Kickstarter campaign to find out if there are enough people out there that can and will support me on this journey. Since the game is free on PC (and that won't change) I'm in a strange situation: It's a bit hard to come up with rewards.

It's naive of me, I know that for sure. But what would Indie life be without trying to do things different?

So I'm thinking of offering YOU some rewards that can actually shape the game and let YOU be part of the game world too. Either by suggesting weapons and power ups or getting your name on an NPC, becoming a quest-giver or let me add another playable character and you name it!

What else could you imagine might be worth a few bucks to help me make this game? Please let me know in the comments or start a discussion in the game hub about what features you wold like to see in the game!

James

MISSION WOOD STOVE COMPLETE!

The northern hemisphere is now slowly warming up as the planets axis shifts once again. And we have finished installing our wood burner!

Getting all the necessary parts in Spain was quite a hassle at first and we built a few things ourselves. Our first test was to go up into some mountain region to find out how efficient we can heat the truck. We tested the stove outside first to burn in the paint but we forgot about the exhaust pipe. As we fired up the stove the pipe started to smoke and we had to open all doors and windows to ventilate. So we ended up freezing a few days and returned to warmer regions.

Now this effect has settled down after a few times of use and we will give it another try in colder regions soon. We hope to return to Germany soon for the complete inspection of the truck and I am looking forward to play some music in a few bars there but right now the north is still 'locked by cold' for us.

I did not spend much digital time lately but I will be releasing a fresh update for Temple of Rust later with some 'convenience' features.

Best regards,
James

Low Sun = Low Energy

Currently standing at the south-tip of Europe near Gibraltar. We are approaching the lowest energy levels for the solar collectors and the damp air is crawling into the mattress at night. Heres a little update on my status:

I work on Temple of Rust almost every day for 1-4 hours (depending on available power) and seriously enjoy doing that. The fast life that I try to leave behind still haunts me sometimes and I pressure myself to 'give it some more'.

When I changed both of my games to FREE I was also releasing a lot of pressure/hopes that I accumulated over the last (almost 20 Years) - since I started making fan/mod content for Quake 3 Arena in 1999. Making games was my 'career choice' since I could think about careers. Now I see that I was conditioned by my social environment and that I was trying to satisfy the images that others had imposed on me and that it had nothing to do with my initial drive. So I'm digging myself out of that position again - slowly.

Now I don't have any form of financial or social security, the bus is rusty and needs repairs. We're going to install a wood stove soon and I'm looking forward to that. These are a few things that need my attention at the moment. I try my best to make some money busking but even there I get illegally chased away sometimes because shop owners want to sell their products. But when I play guitar and sing on the street I at least feel much more in contact with life and that is important for me.

Anyway things won't be moving fast here but I won't and can't stop making games. It will stay a big part of me and I'll keep updating my stuff as long as I can!

Regards,
James

DonationWare - food for thought

Still bad weather here and lots to do. But it is great to see that a lot more people can now find my games and play them.

I still need to eat and make ends meet and for that reason I've added donation DLC packages to both games. The DLC has no content and does not affect the games. They are there so anyone who can and wants to support me can do that.
And yes any support is greatly appreciated and allows me to sit down and do the best I can!

Right now I'm working on Temple of Rust's user interface. To let players generate missions. I'll keep you all updated on that soon!

FREE ENYO

I've been wanting to do this for ages... I started to make this game as a fun project, so to break down a barrier that has been bothering me: I would like to give it away FREE of any charges or ingame purchses!

I will still be working on updates (maybe not fast but steady) and I have a few cool plans with the next big update so I hope to see you all around!

Here an old artwork (maybe NSFW by todays standards):

This isn't the easiest choice for me so let me know what you think in the comments!
