Erannorth Chronicles

Various QoL Improvements and bug fixes.

Hi folks,

This update tweaks and improves a few things to enhance your gameplay experience. First up, you'll find new instructions on the Manage Decks (F6) screen that'll show you how to save and update your decks. Also, in character creation for Custom Organization, there's now a dropdown menu allowing you to select from any custom organizations you've installed.

A new banter text will pop up above your avatar when a negative DOT effect hits them to keep you better informed. To clear up any confusion about perks, there's a new tooltip on the perk's screen hint that reads, 'Perks do not provide new effects to cards; they only modify existing effects.' to further clarify which cards each perk category affects.

Hovering over towns will now reveals their Imports and Exports as icons, and lastly, I squashed some annoying typos in various cards and perks.

That's it for today's patch notes. As always, happy gaming!

Hotfix - 26/07 # 1.061.4

Hi folks,

I hope you're having fun with the new expansion! This update fixes the latest issues that were reported. You can find more information in the notes for this update below.

Patch Notes - 26/07 # 1.061.4

  • Resolved an issue where the random discard function was erroneously adding duplicates of cards from the hand to the discard pile.
  • Resolved an issue in which the Multiply Status and Adjust Status functions would return prematurely if any of the statuses were capped, without checking all of the multiply/adjust effects.
  • Rule Update: Successfully applying Entangle, Stun, Freeze or Bewitch will instantly dispel Flying. (The action still needs to be Ranged in order to affect the Flying target.)
  • Updated the Codex rules of Entangle, Stun, Freeze and Bewitch to include the change above.
  • Added a Banter text for when an action is ineffective (Ranged vs Cover or non-Ranged vs Flying)
  • Fixed some typos in various cards and perks.

Exalted Heroes of Folkswave is out now!

Hi folks,

I'm thrilled to share with you the latest milestone in our journey together - the brand new expansion of Erannorth Chronicles: 'Exalted Heroes of Folkswave,' which is now available.

'Exalted Heroes' unfolds about 30 unique NPC-driven stories, some of which branching into different narrative paths, adding a fresh layer of replayability to your experience. Your choices may create unexpected twists, paving the way for new adventures, friends and enemies.

However, the stories are just one minor aspect of this expansion. You will also encounter 100 new adversaries that will challenge your card-based strategies. To aid you in your battles, I've added over 250 new perks in various subclasses to help you optimize your characters and create more diverse builds.

But that's not all. The expansion comes packed with a whopping 500+ new cards, encompassing roughly 120 allies, 120 legendary items, and many other exciting elements. These additions will infuse fresh strategies into your gameplay, cultivate new synergies, and inject a whole new level of excitement into your deck-building adventures.

To provide you with a closer look at what's in store, I've prepared a video where I delve into the expansion's contents, the new card set, and the varied mechanics you'll come across in "Exalted Heroes of Folkswave". You can watch it here:

While I've put in significant efforts to test and balance the new content, there might be room for tweaking or improvements in the days ahead. That's where you come in - your feedback is invaluable in making this expansion as enjoyable as possible, so don't hesitate to let me know if you come across any issues. But of course, make sure first to update to the latest build 1.061.2!

A final important note - although "Exalted Heroes" is a standalone expansion, every Erannorth Chronicles expansion enriches the content introduced by its predecessors. So, while it's not mandatory to have the previous expansions, I do recommend them for a more comprehensive gameplay experience.

I'm truly excited to see how you'll navigate the challenges and adventures in the world of "Exalted Heroes". Creating this expansion has been an absolute joy, and I can't wait to hear about your experiences!

Modding Improvements, Bugfixes, and Exalted Heroes content.

Hi folks,

I'm happy to inform you that I've wrapped up development on the "Exalted Heroes" expansion. Right now, I'm in the polishing/testing phase, and if all goes well, we could see the release as early as next week. Before that, I'll upload a Sneak Peek video on what to expect from the new expansion on my Youtube channel, so stay tuned.

To ensure a smooth launch, Patch 1.061.0 has been released today. This patch incorporates all the necessary resources for running the upcoming expansion when it's ready, so that the release day patch is as small as possible.

Here's a quick rundown of what's been added or changed:

Patch Notes - 15/07#1.061.0

  • The patch includes all the resources and content for the "Exalted Heroes" expansion. Modders can still utilize them in their mods regardless of Expansion ownership.
  • There's a new twist in gameplay: attributes can now be used as 'expertise' card requirements. The required attributes aren't much, but it should give you some second thoughts when deciding on how to invest your LP.
  • Attributes can also be utilized in MorphExpertise, to unlock or improve card effects.
  • I've added new icons to make it easier to view Attribute-requiring cards in the Player's Handbook.
  • To help manage your collection, a new filter has been introduced in the Player's Handbook to hide or show special cards from the Collection's unfiltered view. i.e., when clicking to view the Affliction card set, you will no longer see the exclusive reward cards with the Show special filter unchecked.
  • You can lock the next Mentor action to a specific 'ally type' this turn with MentorLock[Type]:1, ie. MentorLockSpecimen:1, ExtraRule:Your next Mentor card this turn can only target a Specimen in play.
  • Leylines can be set to a specific value for the duration of a turn using SetLeyline[Element]:x ie. SetLeylineFire:2, SetLeylineWater:2, SetLeylineAir:2, SetLeylineEarth:2, ExtraRule:Change Fire; Water; Air and Earth Leylines to +2 for the duration of this turn.,
  • InvokeFrom[Expertise]:x, can be used along with Invoke:x in scripted effects to pick the expertise from which the card will be.
  • Numerous additions/improvements in the Modding Framework to support combining various (previously incompatible) composite effects together.
  • Fixed various bugs and typos in Perks, Cards and Events.

Summer Contests results and Exalted Heroes expansion progress.

Hi folks,

I want to thank our two community members who participated in our Summer modding contest. You can find their entries at the following links:

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2991642341

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2981735375

Due to an insufficient number of entries (only 2), the contest, sadly, counts as canceled.

However, to acknowledge our participant's effort and dedication, they will receive three DLC keys each.

On a separate note, let's say the YouTube contest did not occur, as no entries were submitted.

Exalted Heroes

Now that the contest news has been addressed, let's shift our focus to the progress of the upcoming expansion. I'd say the expansion is 90% done, and I can confirm the following:

Expansion Content

The expansion will introduce around 30 new NPC-driven stories, each varying in size and offering different narrative paths. The new expansion does contain elements for early levels, but, its primary focus is providing more content for higher-level campaigns. Some of these stories may even lead to additional branching stories based on the choices you make, enhancing the replayability factor. Some could lead to new Challenges etc.

While 'Untold Tales and Legends' is not a prerequisite to enjoy the new stories in Exalted Heroes, it is highly recommended as each expansion builds upon the foundation laid by the previous content.

There are 100 new enemies with new card tactics to test your skills. These fresh opponents will bring a new level of excitement to your high-level gameplay experiences.

There will be over 250 new perks at your disposal, to have ample opportunities to further enhance your characters and create unique builds within different subclasses. These perks will add depth and customization options, allowing you to tailor your playstyle to your preferences.

Not every specialization received extra perks, there was a particular focus on enhancing the Mercenary, Shadow, Hunter specializations, and a few others that didn't have as many unique build options at mid to high levels. ie. Psychic's Charlatan got +10 new perks.

Last, but not least, there is a staggering addition of around 500 new cards. This vast array includes approximately 120 new allies, 120 new legendary items, and a wealth of other exciting additions. These new cards will bring fresh strategies, synergies, and possibilities to your deck-building adventures.

A little tease, as many of them are still a work in progress:

Release when?

While I am aiming for a mid to end of July release, I cannot give you at this point an exact release date for the expansion. I always prioritize quality and completeness over strict deadlines. So, whether it will be released earlier (or later) than anticipated remains to be seen. In the meantime, you can wishlist the expansion on Steam to receive notifications when it becomes available.

That's all folks! If you have any questions, let me know in the comments below!

Bugfixes, Modding Additions and DLC5 Resources.

Hi folks,

Today's patch focuses on resolving the reported issues, implementing under-the-hood support for DLC5 along with some of its resources, and introducing new modding additions. The large size is due to the new resources which our modders can access and use in their mods regardless of DLC ownership.

As a reminder, we currently have two Community Contests underway—a modding contest and a YouTube contest.

There is one entry thus far for our modding contest, which you can check out below:

Let the games begin!

Exalted Heroes

The upcoming expansion has now an official name "Exalted Heroes" and is packed with new additions that are sure to elevate your mid to high levels experience to new heights! if everything goes smoothly, I'm targeting a mid-to-late summer release. But as the saying goes, it'll be ready when it's ready ;)

New NPCs and narrative-driven quests.

The "Exalted Heroes" expansion will pick up where "Untold Tales and Legends" left off, adding a generous helping of narrative events and characters. These new additions are designed to further immerse you into the rich lore of Erannorth Chronicles and present fresh challenges to put your skills to the test.

What does this mean for you as a player? Firstly, if you didn't find the storytelling in "Untold Tales and Legends" appealing, it's quite likely that this expansion might not be to your taste - feel free to give it a pass. Secondly, while "Untold Tales and Legends" isn't a prerequisite for this expansion, it is highly recommended. The NPC in "Untold Tales and Legends" are designed for the earlier levels, whereas the NPC in this expansion cater to the mid and higher levels of the game.

New Enemies & Enemy tactics

Of course that's not all. There will be new enemies and unique tactics for them consistently with all the previous expansions for an additional layer of challenge to keep you on your toes.

New Perks

Hundreds of new 'exalted' perks will allow your characters to tap into greater depths of power. It's been a lot of fun developing these perks, and I can't wait for you to try them out.

Weather effects

On top of all this, I'm integrating weather-based bonuses and maluses for all species. I've always found the idea of the weather affecting gameplay intriguing, and I hope you'll enjoy this new aspect of decision making in your adventures.

New cards

Finally, I'm busy fleshing out new cards and rewards. Every choice and every victory in Erannorth Chronicles should feel meaningful, and every town a unique place to be. I hope that these additions will only amplify that sentiment.

Final thoughts

Each step of creating this expansion, "Exalted Heroes", has been a labor of love. The goal? To propel the Erannorth Chronicles experience to new frontiers - an adventure that's truly one for the books!

But remember, this expansion is a delightful extra, not a necessity. Think of it as a bonus journey you can choose to embark on in the vibrant world of Erannorth Chronicles. If the narrative and characters of "Untold Tales and Legends" didn't resonate with you, you might prefer to continue exploring the core game.

You may be curious why I keep making the point that these expansions are optional content. It's because as a developer, the "DLC backlash" I see daily on Steam can be a disheartening experience; especially when in 90% of the instances are - in my humble assessment - undeserved. We pour countless hours, creativity, and technical expertise into crafting these additional experiences to enhance the core game, often aiming to offer new adventures and more value to players. It can be disappointing when our efforts are met with negativity, especially when the intention behind DLCs is to enrich the game's world, not to withhold content. Content doesn't come out of rabbit hats, yet we all want to play the game today and not in four or six years time. It's always easy judging other professionals without walking with their shoes. But let me tell you, this kind of response can often discourage innovation and dampen the creative spirit that drives us to push boundaries in game development. Nonetheless, we continue to strive to build and provide engaging content, hoping to satisfy as many players as possible while remaining true to our creative vision.

Let's not forget the powerful modding framework at your disposal, either. It's the very same tools that I've been using to craft this entire expansion. With them, you can create content that's uniquely suited to your tastes. It's the perfect way to tailor your own Erannorth adventure.

In the end, whether you dive into "Exalted Heroes" or chart your own path with mods, I hope your journey in Erannorth Chronicles continues to be an exciting one!

And, as always, I'm here to assist if you stumble into any hurdles in your gaming or modding endeavors.

See you in the world of Erannorth!

Hotfix - 04/05 # 1.058.4

Hi folks,

This is a small hotfix that fixes an issue with 'Trained' perks not stacking in certain cases with 'Expertise'-specific perks. In the meantime, the work continues on the upcoming expansion.

Further Deck Switcher improvements, Weather Simulation, and DLC5 news.

Hi folks,

Today's patch makes several improvements to the Deck Switcher, including updating tooltips for better clarity, adding a preview button to view a deck preset before loading it, and removing the 'Overwrite Preset' button from the Deck Switcher to avoid confusion. After all, you can always edit or overwrite a deck using the Deckbuilder.

The new update also introduces a Weather simulation system. This system won't affect your games or characters in progress at this time, but our modders and future content can build on it to make the world even more dynamic.

In addition to the latest patch, I'm thrilled to share that work is underway for the next expansion of Erannorth Chronicles. The 5th expansion of the game will feature even more narrative events and quest NPCs for mid to high-level players, continuing from where the Untold Tales and Legends expansion left off. If all go well, it will probably launch sometime in mid-late Summer.

I understand that not everyone may feel the need for the expansions, and that's perfectly fine. I want to emphasize that the expansions are entirely optional and intended for players who want to explore additional adventures and content.

While, a significant effort goes into making these expansions, it's understandable that not all players will share the same perspective. After all, we live in an era where buying expansions that adds dozens of gameplay hours feels costly, yet it has become commonplace to spend a considerable amount on in-app purchases to replenish energy in mobile games to play 10 more minutes.

Choosing not to purchase expansions won't cause you to miss out on anything essential, and it helps maintain a positive, drama-free gaming environment for everyone.

All modding features added with each expansion are accessible to modders and their mods, regardless of whether you own the expansions. This ensures both you and our modders have access to the same tools used to create the game's expansions.

Thank you for your unwavering support! Stay tuned for more details about the upcoming expansion!

You can read more details about today's patch in the patch notes below.

Patch Notes - 15/04 # 1.058.3

Deck Switcher Improvements

  • Updated a few tooltips in the Deck Switcher to make their purpose clearer.
  • Added a button to preview the deck preset before loading it.
  • Removed the 'Overwrite Preset' button from the Deck Switcher as its functionality was causing confusion. Instead, if you want to overwrite or edit a deck, you can use the Deckbuilder.
  • A brief message will appear over your Avatar to confirm the deck switch after you have switched decks.

(New) Weather System

  • The current weather, as observed by the player, is now simulated and updated whenever the world clock advances.
  • The current weather and its effects will be displayed next to the time of the day and in the "Leylines, Wards & Weather" tooltip alongside the ripple effects.
  • You can check or display the current weather in Ink Events by using the Ink variable 'VAR PCWeather = ""'.
  • You can check the current weather in the Event handling system using Weather:[State] ie. Weather:Heavy Snowfall
  • Weather has a wide range of possible states (Chilly Rain, Windy Downpour, Heavy Snowfall, Light Drizzle, Overcast, Frigid, Bitter Cold, Cold, Clear Skies, Sunny, Moonlight, Stifling Humidity, Chilly, Intense Heat, Extremely Cold, Scorching Heat, Mild Weather, Cold Waters, Strong Currents, Murky Waters, Calm Waters, Ghostly Chill, Haunting Fog, Eerie Darkness, and Unearthly Whispers), which are determined by various simulated factors.
  • While you cannot directly set the weather, you can adjust individual factors such as Temperature, Humidity, WindSpeed, CloudCover, and Precipitation, which will then affect the resulting weather. For example, setting 'Temperature:20' while in a Desert would shift the weather simulation towards a colder climate.
  • Weather can also have associated ripple effects that trigger once during the "Main Phase" and right after the "Main Phase" ripple effect, following the usual ripple effect syntax for perks or cards.
  • ie. creating a Ripple effect that targets 'Overcast' will trigger once during the 'Main Phase' if the current weather is 'Overcast'.
  • In the "Leylines, Wards & Weather" section, any current weather effects will be displayed only for the current weather. If no ripple effect is set for a particular weather, a generic weather description will be displayed instead.
  • Note to modders: Weather effects are granted as Ripple Effect QuestStates to your species (or classes) through perks or through cards.

Bugfixes

  • Fixed some typos in various cards and perks.
