Errant Kingdom

Errant Kingdom: Part One (Info)

Part One consists of the Prologue + Chapter One and contains over 103k words and 22 CGs.

The remaining four parts of the game will be released roughly on a fortnightly basis, with the aim to have the full game released by the end of February 2023. We understand the split release is incredibly frustrating for those of you who have already waited so long, but as you can see above, our wordcount for this game, even for such a small portion of it, is absolutely huge and we are attempting to minimize the strain on the team with testing and fixes with these smaller, staggered releases.

These releases should look as follows;

Part Two: Chapter Two + Three
Part Three: Chapter Four + Five
Part Four: Chapter Six + Seven
Part Five: Finale

Please remember that Errant Kingdom has been fully ported into a new engine (from Unity > Ren'py) due to a large number of players experiencing issues with the previous version and some being unable to play entirely. We are confident everyone should now be able to play on any system without issue and sincerely thank you for your patience during a very long delay. We recommend deleting your old game to clear space on your system as it no longer serves a purpose.

We hope you enjoy revisiting the game with us over the next two months, and we know we have a long way to go to earn back your trust. Have a wonderful holiday season and a healthy new year.

Errant Kingdom Is Coming! (Release update/info)

Just a quick note about Errant Kingdom's release this week. We've run into some delays in testing (because... game huge, team small) so to ensure we actually get the game in your hands without exhausting ourselves, we've made the decision to split the release. We're going to stagger the releases into chapters much like we did when we were originally releasing, but this time it'll be in pairs rather than one at a time. This will allow us time to finish the final portion of testing carefully while also getting the game into people's hands starting this week like we promised.

As of right now, we envision the double chapter releases to be staggered fortnightly. If all goes to plan, the game will be out in its entirety by the end of February.

We thank you in advance for your understanding and patience. It's been a hell of a long road to get here. Your support through what's been a really arduous development (for both personal and professional reasons) has truly kept us going.

We look forward to FINALLY watching you start to play later this week.

Release Date Announcement + New Key Art!

The Kingdom of Novus has been thrown into disarray and it's up to you to decide if you’ll help to bring peace or stoke the fires of chaos. Pick a side, and meet your match. The epic conclusion of Errant Kingdom, a high fantasy LGBTQ+ is coming on December 20th, 2022.

July Progress Update!

Hey everyone!

Hope you're all doing well. We have some fun things to show you this time around! While editing and finalizing the final chapters of all three routes, we realized that we wanted to add a few more CGs to the game to give it that extra 'oomph.' After starting work on Call Me Under which has a more cinematic style/approach when it comes to our visuals, so where we have a little more freedom (and all-important extra time) finishing up EK without any strict deadlines, we figured it was the perfect time to add things.

Things we're adding/working on!

Race selection tarots

The first thing we wanted to add was more of those beautiful tarot cards that our wonderful artist Lennox did for the character selection. We decided that the race selection would be the perfect place to flex Len's art so we've included additional tarots for The Leathan and The Human at the character 'creation' stage, which makes this starting point a little more interesting and interactive. We'll also be adding some more information about those races so you can make a more informed decision on who you would like to play as, similar to the information you get when selecting your role of Knight, Nomad, or Ambassador.

New key art

We were looking back at the key art that we created back in June 2019 (!!!) and, while it's still obviously super beautiful, we wanted to give it a well-deserved update so it feels more recent and fitting with the rest of our artwork. Anna has been drafting some sketches and we're really excited to reveal the final product upon release. It's going to be extremely sexy and fit for a movie poster.

Leathan improvements

One major piece of feedback we had from the released chapters was that people felt like the game was lacking enough unique dialogue for those players who chose the Leathan race. With Roux being one of our love interests/main characters, the topic of the Fae is brought up often, and I think it was both an oversight on our part and also a little bit of corner-cutting with our tight deadlines (in the interest of being brutally honest!). So we've gone back and are taking steps to ensure this isn't something that we feel like we half-arsed this time around. We hope this improvement is noticed and that you enjoy the extra little touches for your Leathan character that will undoubtedly make them feel more fleshed out and add to that unique playthrough element that we think is one of EK's strongest points.

Cinematic CGs

Last but not least are the 'cinematic' CGs we're adding to the final showdown! The climax of EK is pretty dramatic, as you would (hopefully) expect from a high-fantasy tale, so we wanted to step away from our more simple love interest type portraits that you unlock via romancing, and added some exciting scenes, mostly action, that will definitely bring some more excitement to the grand finale of the game.

As always, we'd like to thank you for the patience and grace that you've shown us throughout this delay. We truly can't express how important it is when people actively support and encourage indie developers to take their time. I promise you that none of us want to delay releases, but at this point in time when the world is basically on fire and burnout as a result of that kind of stress is such a prevalent thing, having people applaud us for being kind to ourselves when it comes to our work is the most amazing thing. We'll continue to keep you updated as we progress and will never leave you in the dark, and the promise that you will most definitely see Errant Kingdom in 2022 is still one that we will stick to. See you next time and don't forget to keep up with us on Twitter!

May Progress Update

Hey everyone!

Just a super quick update for you again so you know we haven't forgotten you! Not much to report again, just lots, and lots... and LOTS of coding happening, as well as testing to make sure we don't ship a game that breaks (because we've had enough of THAT happen before with EK).

We also made the decision to redo our key art for a fresh new look, as at Lunaris our artists are already incredible but only continue to improve and become even more superpowered, so Anna is going to kick ass and produce something really special. We're excited to show you when it's finished!

PRIDE MONTH

June is rapidly approaching, so we're preparing for a month of celebration and making some fun memes to post throughout the month over on Twitter, some being EK-themed (of course).

Also, every year at Lunaris Games since our founding in 2018 we've created a limited edition merch collection to celebrate Pride Month. This year we’re donating *all of our proceeds to Trans Lifeline, a trans-led organization that connects trans people to the community, support, and resources they need to survive and thrive. You can pre-order the shirt or the print (or both as a set!) on our shop website here. Pre-orders are open until June 3rd so be quick as this collection will not be sold again!

*all proceeds minus shipping and production costs.

March Progress Update

Hey everyone! Just another quick check-in. We're still working hard and are currently working on the artwork for our Steam achievements! It's kind of hard to post more detailed updates when the details are currently pretty sparse thanks to fear of spoilers, but we're essentially still doing our best to get the game to you ASAP and can't wait for it to be done and out.

Make sure you follow us on Twitter for general updates, and we'll see you soon.

January Progress Update!

Hello everyone and happy new year! We had a nice little break in late November into early December, so we appreciate you waiting for the next update and hope you enjoyed the holidays. We're currently (still... phew, making games is hard y'all) writing, editing, polishing, and programming. So basically nothing pretty or all that interesting to show you that isn't a big old spoiler, since we finished all of the art a few months ago. One fun little fact for you is that the final update script is currently pushing 200k, which might give you an idea of why the heck it's been taking us so long, other 'life things' notwithstanding.

We still aren't going to jinx ourselves with a release date but I can tentatively promise you it will be in the first quarter of the year, again... life/world things pending. Keep an eye out on Twitter as we've been posting Errant Kingdom bits on there, especially on #ScreenshotSaturday.

As always, much love to you all for your patience, understanding, and most importantly your kindness to our little team while we do our very best.

November Progress Update!

Hey everyone!

I know we said last time that we hoped that would be our last update but unfortunately, that isn't the case, however, that isn't a bad thing because everything is still going swimmingly. We've been continuously working hard to polish the game and basically just making sure that it's as good as we really want it to be. We know that it'll never be perfect so we don't intend to drag our feet trying, but the beauty in being an indie team beholden to our own release schedule is that we CAN take our time and ensure that it's the best it can be.

On the programming front, we've made a bit of a potentially controversial decision regarding the engine. We've previously said that we were going to release the finished game on both Ren'py and Unity, but this is no longer happening due to some changes in the plugin we use in Unity that has basically rendered our current version of EK kind of useless? Which... that's always fun! (It is not.) So, we've come up with a solution where we'll be implementing some choices at start-up where you'll be able to quickly craft your previous playthrough and continue with your choices, much like the way that the Dragon Age keep works, in a way. This isn't ideal and is of course just another of those pesky stumbling blocks we seem to keep encountering, but it isn't the end of the world and we quickly came up with a solution and put the smiles back on our faces.

We do have a tentative release date in mind, but we're keeping it close to our chests just like we always do until we're 100% sure that we can commit to it. As always, our biggest, deepest gratitude for your continued support and patience. No one wants this game to come out more than we do, and having people understand how hard it is for small teams like us to delay games is so appreciated. Sometimes seeing more understanding directed towards AAA teams delaying their games than small teams like us is incredibly disheartening, but minus maybe one or two shitty comments we've actually been shown a lot of love. We know it's frustrating, but we will always carry through on our promises to deliver, even if it has taken us longer than we'd hoped.

We love you!

Progress Update!

Hey everyone. We're back with what we actually hope might very well be our final ever progress update,

We'll keep it short and sweet for you so we can get to the point, but we're super close to getting the completed version of Errant Kingdom in your hands!

We're in the final stages of production on the last few chapters, and all we really have left is some writing and (a lot of) programming. The programming is the part that scares us into not announcing a set release date as, historically, doing that has never gone really well for us... or any developer. So while we're keeping mum about that right now, we can safely say that we're nearing the finish line and will be jumping and screaming and crying when it happens.

We don't really have anything arty that we can show you, again, because of spoilers, but thanks for your continued patience and we hope you'll be as excited as we will be when you get to experience the grand finale of our characters (and your!) journeys.
