New Beta 1.4.2 - minor update (Reefing)

This new update has been created to improve reefing performance. In the current release it can be difficult to get the mainsail tight when it is being held down by the reefing lines, which can cause problems with the Reefing tutorial in particular.

I would very much appreciate feedback - please report any issues or confirm the improvement (hopefully!)

Thank you to steveelliott4646 for reporting the issue.

P.S. If you have a moment please visit this video by Gregory Ball - a fellow eSailor who has created this beautiful atmospheric music and video of Dawn at Shearwater Bay

eSail Full Release

We are pleased to announce that today we have taken eSail out of Early Access and published it as a full release. I would like to thank everyone who has contributed with their feedback and ideas to get us to this point.

So what now? Well the good news is the development does not stop here. We have lots more planned with a new sailing area coming next. That will be followed by some exciting new sailing features coming in the second half of the year.

We look forward to the next chapter in the eSail story!

New eSail Sailing Simulator Update 1.4.x

Today we have released a new version with several new features. If you do not get the update then please log out of your Steam client, then back in.

1) Better ropes (sailing control lines). Available on the highest quality level. We also have kept the older lines for lower quality levels. Getting both working smoothly has been quite fiddly!

2) Improved boat detailing - mainly pulleys and nav lights. Again this is on the highest quality.

3) Added 'Detailed water' (Settings) this gives you a bow wave and water with more detail and less tiling.

4) Added new 'Boat views' showing the boat from 4 directions. There is a little diamond button near the SmartView button so you can quickly toggle between them.

5) Added keyboard controls for views including new BoatViews.

6) Zoom speed setting. This changes speed when using keyboard and mouse scroll.

7) Volume settings for collisions, narration etc.

8) Numerous bug fixes, especially improved AutoSail to make it more consistent.

New version of eSail for Windows and Mac

Today we have released a new version of eSail Sailing Simulator with new trim controls and 2 new tutorials. There is also a new race - the East Shearwater Drag Race.

A full list of changes can be found here:
https://www.esailyachtsimulator.com/support

eSail v1.3 includes a voice over for the Sail Depth and Sail Trim tutorials by the fantastic Hannah White who in 2015 became the Guinness World Records holder for the fastest crossing of the English Channel in a single-handed dinghy by doing so in 3 hours, 44 minutes and 39 seconds.

NOTE: Thank you to all Beta testers. The Beta challenge have been removed from leaderboards but are still saved on your local machines.

The Mac version is performing well. We have noticed that the mouse scroll is rather fast. In the next update we will give more options to customise all your controls, so this will be improved then.

NEW eSail BETA for Windows and Mac

You can now try out and contribute to the latest update of eSail with this new Beta (1.2.2031)!

This version has new trim controls - travellers, outhaul and backstay as well as many other enhancements and bug fixes. There are also 2 new tutorials on Sail Depth and Sail Twist.

The boat handling has also changed a little - for instance we now factor in hull displacement better, so as your speed increases drag increases exponentially. This gives top speeds of around 8 knots which is realistic for this type of boat. For that reason new (sailing) challenge results will go into new leaderboards. Don't worry - your old results will still be available to view! NOTE: The new leaderboards may be cleared when the update goes on general release.

Now you can run eSail on Mac too. As with Windows, controller support is limited (although is being developed rapidly right now for the following update).

You feedback will be really important - especially on the sailing races - making sure we have the boat at the right level against the competition. Please put any comments (positive and negative!) into the new BETA discussion forum.

NOTE 1: splash screen resolution dialog is for testing only - please ignore.
NOTE 2: voice over will be added to new tutorials before full release.
NOTE 3: you can easily change back to the current version if you want to (until full release).
To install the BETA:
1) In your Steam client, right click on eSail Sailing Simulator (in the list on the left). On Mac CTRL click.

2) Click on 'Properties'.

3) Click on the 'BETAS' tab and select 'beta -' from the dropdown list.

4) If you don't see the beta in the list, log out of Steam then back in - this should refresh the list.

eSail Sailing Simulator Version 1.2.1 Released

This new version includes over 30 enhancements and bug fixes including:

* Feedback now links straight to Steam forums.

* IMPORTANT: We have changed how Settings/Day length works. Now the user’s day length is only used in Live Sailing and Locations. This to avoid time being manipulated in to get better scores in challenges.

* Added coordinate display to pencil in Chart. (Switched on bottom right). This is because it can be difficult to read the scale even for the experienced navigator.

* Settings screen now accessible from first page.

* Improved quality (less flickering) as you move away from centre of the world.

* Now the Autosail panel rolls up with tablet.

* Stopped camera knock back after menu screens.

* Fixed fender problem when fenders stack up in middle of boat.

* Change Sailing character behaviour so both can work at once.
