Alpha 35 - Cooking system, Oil and Food recipes, Bandage Torch, Gameplay improvements

Hi everyone,

the new Escape the Pacific version 'Alpha 35' is now available.

For this update we were mainly focusing on adding the base functionality for the Cooking system. The first recipes are for making oil and food. There is a new Bandage Torch which can be pinned into the ground. A couple of gameplay improvements were added and some issues were fixed too.

The long-awaited Cooking functionality is finally implemented. The first available recipes are for making Coconut and Fish Oil and for preparing Boiled Fish, Meat and Eggs. The features for the Cooking system will be updated and expanded in future releases and the list of the available recipes will include a wide range of cookable meals, soups, drinks and medicine.

The new Bandage Torch is burning longer. Torches are now reacting to weather elements and their lighting effect is also dynamic. It is possible to stick the Torches into the ground and their worn-out level is displayed in the Inventory as well.

The hotkey system was reworked a little and keys for controlling some actions were reorganized too. Press & Hold functionality was introduced in some critical operations like emptying bottles or extinguishing a fire...

Alpha 34 - Banana Build modules, Banana Raft and Canoe, Dead Grass, Stick Torch

Hi everyone,

the new Escape the Pacific version 'Alpha 34' is now available.

For this update we were mainly focusing on adding additional usages for Banana trees - there are new Banana Building modules, Banana Raft module and a Banana Canoe. Dead Grass can be used as Kindling and the Fire Stick can be used as a simple Torch. Campfires have gotten an updated look too. A couple of gameplay improvements were added and some issues were fixed too.

The new Banana Foundation Pillars, Banana Pillar, Banana Side-Beam Frame make survival on Banana islands easier while the new Banana Raft module and the Banana Canoe makes it possible to leave the island sooner. Papaya trees can now be chopped down to free up space on Papaya islands.

The new harvestable Dead Grass can be used as a kindling for Campfires - however it is a little harder to ignite than the kindling made from Coconut Fiber.

The Fire Saw can now be used multiple times before it breaks apart. Not only successful but also failed ignition attempts degrade its quality. Fire Sticks can now be ignited and used as a Simple Torch. Burning Campfires have gotten a whole new look too.

Alpha 33 - Lightning & Thunder, new Sail Mast, new Build modules and properties

Hi everyone,

the new Escape the Pacific version 'Alpha 33' is now available.

For this update we were mainly focusing on adding realistic Lightning & Thunder moving along with the center of the Storm. There is a new collectible Bandage used for crafting and a new Sail Mast with Wind Indicator. There are new Building modules with different Sun/wind/rain shielding properties. A couple of gameplay improvements were added and many issues were fixed too.

The most interesting and unique new feature is the Lightning & Thunder effect which is a very nice and realistic add-on to our Storm mechanic. The Lightning system is travelling around with the center of the Storm and the Thunders are still heard a while after storms moved on. Hearing a silent Thunder indicates that a Storm is forming in far distance from that certain direction.

There is a new collectible Bandage which can be used for crafting the 'Wind Indicator' and a new 'Sail Mast with Wind Indicator' which offers big help in setting Sails correctly based on the actual wind direction. Bandages can be found in some crates for now, later it will be possible to craft them from various resources.

The new Sun/Wind/Rain shielding mechanic allows to set different shielding values for every different Building module. Shielding values are multiplicative so if some wall has a Wind shielding value of 60% and another wall besides the first has 40% - the effective Wind shielding value will be 76%. This engine requires to consider what type of Building to build depending on different environmental situations. The Save system was expanded due to this new Shielding mechanic and will require some optimization in the future because of the more complex Build modules.

This update also provides some gameplay improvements. Oil liquid has now a yellow color and all of the Water holder objects have got 2-3 times more precise indication of the water level inside: for example blue/yellow planes inside the Coconut pot for different water levels. The object dragging mechanic has also been updated and from now on objects aren't falling through the Raft base modules when they are dragged. Water and Clouds quality can now be defined in the Options menu.

Changelog:

New features:

01. Added: Lightning effect
02. Added: Thunder effect
03. Added: Storm mechanic moves the Lightning & Thunder around its center
04. Added: Collectible Bandage
05. Added: Wind Indicator recipe needs Bandage
06. Added: Sail Mast with Wind Indicator
07. Added: Sun / Wind / Rain shielding mechanic
08. Added: New Banana build modules with increased shielding
09. Added: Clouds Quality setting in Options menu
10. Added: Ocean Quality setting in Options menu

General:

01. Changed: Oil liquid has yellow color
02. Added: Water holders more accurately indicating liquid level
03. Changed: Object dragging system improved
04. Added: "Drink" button in Inventory
05. Changed: Volumetric Light Shaft intensity reduced a little
06. Added: "Center" hotkey to ActionBar for Sail, Sail Mast and Rudder when attaching

Fixes:

01. Fixed: Objects do not fall through the Raft base when they are dragged
02. Fixed: Sometimes not able to drink from fresh cut coconuts
03. Fixed: Non stopping raining in Main menu after regenerating the World
04. Fixed: Saving/Loading Crafted but not yet attached Sails do not roll up after Loading (caused almost impossible attaching)

Alpha 32 - Volumetric lights & clouds, Storms, new Lantern, Sail and Trunk build modules

Hi everyone,

the new Escape the Pacific version 'Alpha 32' is now available.

For this update we were mainly focusing on giving a new, more modern look to our game. There is a new Lighting and Volumetric Clouds system. The new Storm mechanic is unique on its own and more realistic. There is a new Sail, Lantern, Trunk build modules and couple of issues were fixed too.

The new Lighting and Volumetric Cloud system brings a whole new immersion level to the game and the implemented Storm cloud mechanic is fully customizable. Inside storm areas waves between islands are even bigger but still realistic. It will be a whole new experience trying to escape a Storm approaching fast from some direction when you are out on the ocean! An important, new feature is that rain is not falling vertically only but will come down in an angle depending on wind strength. It won't be enough to have only 1 roof above the Campfire or the Drier anymore. The list of possible weather profiles will be expanded in the future as we will introduce some new weather elements/behaviour.

With this update a new mechanic for different liquid types was introduced. The first one added from the future list of liquid types is simple Oil. Oil can be found in some collectible bottles for now. It won't be possible to mix the different liquid types together.

The new Lantern is weather-proof and needs oil to burn. Candles are sensitive to weather elements and are easily extinguished by wind or rain.

The new Banana Sail has better wind catching characteristic and generates more force even in calmer Wind. The general Sail/Wind/Force parameters were tweaked so the responsiveness of bigger rafts could be improved.

Changelog:

New features:

01. Added: Volumetric Cloud system
02. Added: Volumetric Lighting
03. Added: Unique Storm and Cloud mechanic
03. Added: Raining under angle
04. Added: New Liquid: Oil
05. Added: Lantern
06. Added: Build modules: Stable Trunk Foundation Pillars, Stable Trunk Pillar, Stable Trunk Side-Beam Frame
07. Added: Banana sail
08. Added: Candles sensitive to weather
09. Added: Spawning fallen coconuts

General:

01. Changed: Liquid amount is displayed in 1/10 precision
02. Added: New texture for old palm sails
03. Added: Spawning more Coconut palms on Forest type islands
04. Changed: Increased LOD distances for foliage and trees

Fixes:

01. Fixed: Rudder works correctly in all Wind direction/Raft orientation situations
02. Fixed: 'Vanishing raft' issue when dragging a Raft with not completely lowered Sails
03. Fixed: Correctly saved game data in case of Candles in Crates
04. Fixed: Correctly saved Water level of some Bottles in inventory
05. Fixed: Some internal errors when chopping Foliage
06. Fixed: Some internal issues with Inventory
07. Fixed: Inserted Rock to Campfire does not remain in hand

We will continue to concentrate more on improving gameplay and on adding more content to make our game more entertaining and longer playable. The additional plans include also the Spear, Smoker, Salt, Candle-lantern, Torch, Ship wrecks, Dolphins, Sharks ... We will also work on solving new issues and we will recheck some older issues too. Alpha 31 - Save profiles, Wind Indicator, Peeled Papaya and Canoe

Hi everyone,

the new Escape the Pacific version 'Alpha 31' is now available.

For this update we were mainly focusing on a new Save profile system and on a Wind Indicator. We have a new dryable Peeled Papaya, a new Canoe and couple of issues were fixed too.

One of the most awaited features is finally here: The Save profile system allows to play up to 4 different games at once. Every profile can hold up to 4 save games. The save slots will tell where you left off by showing a screenshot of when the game was saved.

The next interesting feature is the new Wind Indicator. When it is held in hand it indicates the direction and the strength of the wind. It can be used to find a good wind shielded spot to place the Campfire but its importance is on the open ocean where it offers big help to set Sails correctly. Model and recipe for the current Indicator will be later updated and another one will also be added with which it will be possible to attach to Sail masts.

The new Peeled Papayas can be dried on the meal drier and make living on Papaya islands easier. The new Tree trunk canoe helps to get off the Forest type islands where only a few Coconut palms are to be found.

Island foliage generator profiles have been updated a little and among other things they generate Coconut islands more often now too. The fauna generator has been updated also to avoid the situation when on some smaller islands there only 1-2 animals were present. The ocean wave profiles in case of stronger winds were updated to have the wave size go at the full 100% instead of the actual 60% - this change makes ocean travelling more interesting and is preparation for introducing Stormy weather in some of the future updates.

The Meal drier and the Water collector can now be dragged and re-positioned after crafting. Dragged objects aren't rotating freely (on contact) anymore and don't push other (touched) objects either. The main advantage of this feature is that it eliminates the problem of when dragged objects push rafts to go sky-rocketing.

The full Changelog:

New features:

01. Added: Save profiles
02. Added: Wind Indicator
03. Added: Peeled Papaya
04. Added: Canoe Trunk

General:

01. Changed: Coconut islands generated more often
02. Changed: More animals spawn (instead of only 1-2 in some cases)
03. Changed: Strong wind ocean profiles have 100% wave size
04. Changed: Wave sizes under normal conditions reduced for coasts (to not flood the grassy levels so much)
05. Added: Meal drier can be repositioned
06. Added: Water collector can be repositioned
07. Added: Dragged objects do not rotate freely
08. Added: Dragged objects do not push other objects around
09. Added: Dragged objects do not push floatable objects around

Fixes:

01. Fixed: Load Menu is correctly multi-language
02. Fixed: Load Menu is correctly closed with ESC key
03. Fixed: Collectible barrels and chests aren't disappearing on remote islands

We plan to concentrate more on improving gameplay and adding more content to make our game will be more entertaining and enjoyable for longer. Additional plans also include Smoker, Salt, different liquid types, Lanterns, new Cloud system, Storms, new Lighting system, Ship wrecks, Dolphins, Sharks ... We will also work on solving new issues and we will recheck some older issues too. Other new features will be added as implementing the planned features and fixing issues will allow us to.

Alpha 30 - Specialized Islands, Save slots, New trees and Raft module

Hi everyone,

the new Escape the Pacific version 'Alpha 30' is now available.

We are back after Winter holidays and for this update were mainly focusing on a new mechanic for Specialized island types and a new Foliage generator. There are new Tree types, a new tree Trunk object and a new Raft module. The Arrows break after usage and a couple of issues were fixed too.

The biggest change in this update is the new mechanic for generating fauna and flora on islands based on predefined profiles depending on a variety of parameters. The current implementation generates 'specialized' islands such as: Coconut, Banana, Papaya, Forest and mixed. Fauna is also 'specialized': Crab, Turtle, Seagull and mixed islands too can now be visited. This new mechanic allows us to generate more variable (Rocky, Sandy, ...) islands and more realistic looking foliage depending on the season and on the geo-location of the player. The newly added island, flora and fauna profiles will be fine tuned and new ones will be added continually in the future.

The mentioned Forest profiles are using 6 new Tree models - the list of types will be expanded in the future too. The new Tree Trunk object is spawning when chopping down trees and can be used for spawning Sticks or as a resource for crafting the new Trunk Raft module.

The save system has been expanded and now offers up to 4 slots in which the system holds the last (up-to) 4 savegames. With each save event older save games will be pushed back and the oldest one (the 5th) deleted. In some of the very next updates we will add 4 game profiles which will allow to play up to 4 different game session at once having 4 save slots for each of the game profile. Save states are now also synchronized to the Steam Cloud.

Arrows have gotten a new feature too - they break apart after they were shot certain times. Their durability is expressed in percentage: Simple wood ones break down 30% each time and the advanced ones break down 15% each time.

Amongst the fixed issues the most important one was when the player was very close (at-touch) to some of the built objects on the raft and started looking around (rotated) the raft was rocketed (pushed) around indirectly by the player character at high speed.

Changelog:

New features:

01. Added: New Flora generator mechanic
02. Added: New Fauna generator mechanic
03. Added: 6 Tree models
04. Added: Tree Trunk object
05. Added: Tree Trunk Raft module
06. Added: 4 Save slots
07. Added: Arrow break-down mechanic

Fixes:

01. Fixed: Looking around and touching an object on the raft does not rocket the raft around
02. Fixed: A couple of internal engine fixes
03. Fixed: Attaching a Roof module to a building on a Raft is correct (not jumpy)

We plan to concentrate more on improving gameplay and adding more content to make our game will be more entertaining and enjoyable for longer. Additional plans include also the Profile system, Smoker, Salt, different liquid types, Lanterns, new Cloud system, new Lighting system, Ship wrecks, Dolphins, Sharks ... We will also work on solving new issues and we will recheck some older issues too. Other new features will be added as implementing the planned features and fixing issues will allow us to.

Best wishes & Thank you!

Hi everyone,

the end of the year is approaching and we would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for supporting us throughout the year! Thank you for your ideas, suggestions and criticism helping us making our game better.

This year we released our very first Early Access build and the beginnings were anything than easy: First due to publishing issues at Valve the game was accidentally released as full game instead of Early Access, later we had to deal with several players giving us a hard time on social platforms - and still there were also some major issues in the game to take care of. During the year we have also had some personal changes in our company but with the help of our community we were able to get through all those hard times and were able to continue development in a more or less unaffected way.

For the next year we plan to implement many new interesting and unique features and we hope that the community will continue to support us with new ideas, suggestions and with their positive energy so we together get to make our game even better. Some of the ideas we already received were truly inspiring and will find their way into the game sooner or later for sure.

Holidays are here and besides resting we plan to work on some new features and improving gameplay a little although working a bit less on our game.

Our next build will be released in January 2019, until then:
We wish you a Merry Christmas and a happy New Year!

Gamers4Gamers Team.

Alpha 29 - New Raft system, Optimized physics

Hi everyone,

the new Escape the Pacific version 'Alpha 29' is now available.

For this update we were mainly focusing on a new Raft system and optimizing the physics engine. There is new dry-able meat and couple of issues were fixed too.

The old Raft system was entirely re-written from scratch because with the old one it wasn't possible to eliminate some of Unity's features that caused the 'disappearing and rocketing away raft' issues. The new raft system also offers more options to tweak its physical behaviour. We will continually adjust and tweak its parameters to have the raft float and move as realistic as it can be.

The physics system was also greatly optimized to eliminate the big frame drops which were caused by a huge amount of physical bodies laying around on islands. With adding the bigger islands lately it is very easy to get thousands of physical bodies on islands - all of the fruits, coconut husks, sticks, leaves, rocks, float-able objects ... With the optimizations done frames/sec jumped from ~3 to ~15 in a scene with ~2000 physical objects laying around.

Tracking down and working on the two issues described above was very time consuming so we had only a little time left to add some new models and features. We added some dry-able meat which is spawned by hitting the seagull meat with a knife. We began to work on a new save system which will feature multiple profiles and slots. We began to test a new cloud system too.

Changelog:

New features:

01. Added: New Raft system
02. Added: New Seagull leg meat
03. Added: New Seagull whole leg meat

General:

01. Changed: Optimized Physics engine
02. Changed: Schefflera tree can be chopped down

Fixes:

01. Fixed: Banana WallHalf complete and blueprint displaying 2 missing Sticks
02. Fixed: Drinkable WaterHolders with >= 1 Water can't be destroyed with an Axe
03. Fixed: Not showing Hit text in ActionBar when aiming at full Waterholder while holding Axe
04. Fixed: Turned off Wetness for Banana Leaves in crafted/built prefabs
05. Fixed: Turned off Wetness for Coconut Palm Leaves in crafted/built prefabs
06. Fixed: Higher collider for Roof Wood Palm to avoid clipping into simple beds halfway
07. Fixed: Reduced Leaf sizes to avoid clipping through Bed colliders
08. Fixed: Equipping item from ground when Bow is equipped is working
09. Fixed: Correctly Equipping an item from inventory via Button or Double Click when Bow is equipped

As we needed more time to work on the above features our short-term plans haven't changed a lot. We plan to continue with checking and testing the Raft and Sailing mechanic even more. We plan to add some new features to the Bow and Arrow too. The additional plans include also the Save system, Smoker, Salt, different liquid types... Besides these new features the Animal's AI will be still on the agenda as the new Sailing UI and the new Menu. We will work also on solving the new issues and we will recheck some older issues too. Other new features will be added as implementing the planned features and fixing issues will allow us to.

Thank you for your patience and for your constructive feedbacks helping us to get rid of the issues as fast as is possible.

Alpha 28 - Gameplay, Small Rope, Advanced Arrow, New Beds and trees

Hi everyone,

the new Escape the Pacific version 'Alpha 28' is now available.

For this update we were mainly focusing on improving and balancing the gameplay. There is also a new craft-able Small Rope, Advanced Arrow and Banana frond beds. Palm leaves got new textures everywhere and there are some new trees too.

Please be aware that during early access phase game code could change as much as affecting gameplay when loading/saving savegames from earlier versions. To always be on the safe side make sure to start a new game with each update. Thank you!

Alpha 27 - Wind and Sailing, Bow, New collectibles and trees

Hi everyone,

the new Escape the Pacific version 'Alpha 27' is now available.

For this update we were mainly focusing on improving the Wind and Sailing mechanic. The Bow has been finally added and the Collectibles system has been upgraded a little too. There are some new trees added also.

To improve the Sailing mechanic it was needed to recheck and balance the ocean and wind system too. Generally said, the Sails are now generating more force to move the raft and the wind is also more balanced around its average values for the given day. There was added some more randomness into the wind profile while the needed average speed was preserved. The ocean waves also react softer to calmer wind. The Ocean, Wind and Sailing system together is the most complex feature in our game so it will be fine-tuned and balanced more times in the future to achieve the best possible results.

The very first implementation of the Bow and Arrow system has been added also. It is now possible to shoot the sea gulls while they are roosting on their nesting rocks. There are many aspects of the Bow and Arrow system which we have to - and of course - will have improved as we will work more on it and expand it continually in future releases.

The Collectibles spawning system has been reworked a little to generate more meaningful amounts of spawned items and to provide more balanced variety. There are also some new interesting collectibles added. The Thick and Medium Candles last longer as the Thin ones do.

The newly added tree/bush types are nicely increasing the variety of the islands flora and they are providing easier way to get long and small sticks as to chop down a palm tree.

Some issues with the Wind and Weather system were also fixed. The generated daily wind and weather profile is now correctly saved/loaded - the wind speed, direction, cloudiness and rain amount is working correctly.
