CSM 17 - Meet Your Candidates!

Democratically minded Capsuleers!

Over the last couple of weeks, we have reviewed all the CSM applications to ensure that they meet the outlined guidelines and eligibility requirements. We initially made a commitment this round of aiming to have a 72-hour turnaround for applicants this term. We acknowledge that we didn’t hit that number as close as we’d hoped with every single applicant due to a combination of issues surrounding both Fanfest and COVID-19 illness across the team, but we did still get the bulk of the applications confirmed in record time.

To give a summary and reminder of the timeline for upcoming CSM17 key dates:
  • 2 May – 16 May – Submissions Open
  • 9 May – 20 May – Application Processing
  • 25 May – Live Candidates announcement (You are here)
  • 25 May – 5 June – Active Campaign Period
  • 7 June (11:00 UTC) - 14 June (11:00 UTC) – Voting period
  • 16 June – CSM 17 Announcement

However, with no further ado, it is with great excitement that we can confirm and present to you the full list of candidates for the upcoming Council of Stellar Management 17! From events operators to 3rd party developers and from Nullsec candidates to Highsec candidates (with a sprinkling from Pochven, Wormhole, and Lowsec) we have a great selection of applicants this year!

We are excited to confirm that the total number of applicants this year is 45 people. Only three of the incumbents have made a return this year, so it’s shaping up to be a very fresh-looking CSM next term.

The CSM Campaign period begins now, 25 May, and runs for a little under two weeks until 5 June. During this period, you will be able to learn more about your prospective candidates and hear about why they should earn your votes! Each candidate has a forum thread on the Eve Online forums with a comprehensive overview of their campaign platform. Of course, many of our Eve Online Partners and other content producers may offer to cover the CSM campaigns, providing a plethora of sounding boards for the various messages that candidates would like to get across.

As with last year, CCP will be hosting brief interviews with the candidates during this active campaign period live on CCPTV. We’ll be announcing the schedule around this time, so keep an eye out on Twitter, Facebook, and the forums to tune in and hear from your favourite candidate. Don’t worry if you can’t attend live, though, the VoD will be saved on the channel giving you ample opportunity to listen to the interviews for any of the candidates during the voting period!

The CSM elections utilize a unique voting system, called the STV system. it is possible to select a variety of candidates to vote for on your ballot and we’d recommend that you fill your ballot sheet up with those who have piqued your interest as there is always an opportunity that the votes will trickle down if someone on your ballot gets voted in!

Get Ready for Anger Games 5

Competitive capsuleers,

The Anger Games returns to EVE in its fifth iteration! This community-ran PvP tournament kicks off on 28 May with 32 teams going head-to-head in a double elimination 7v7 arena format. In double elimination, losing teams drop to a lower bracket, fighting to stay in for a chance to win. If you’re a fan of tournament PvP then you don’t want to miss this as it kicks off this Saturday at 17:00 UTC!

You can watch the Anger Games over on CCP TV so don’t miss out on your chance to see it live with thousands of other spectators. Every team will be playing on the first night (Saturday) and on Sunday. Lucky teams will play on towards a gripping final on 12 June at 19:00 UTC. The schedule is below, and you can find the full bracket on Challonge.

Weekend 1

  • 28 May – Round 1 (Stream starting 16:45 UTC, matches start 17:00)
  • 29 May – Winners Bracket Round 2 & Losers Brackets Round 1 (Stream starting 16:45 UTC, matches start 1700)

Weekend 2

  • 4 June – Winners Bracket Round 3 & Losers Brackets Round 2 (Stream Starting 17:00 UTC, matches start at 17:15)
  • 5 June – Losers Brackets Round 3 & 4 (Stream Starting 17:00 UTC, matches start at 17:15)

Weekend 3

  • 12 June – Semifinals, Losers Bracket Finals, and Grand Finals (Stream starting 16:45 UTC, matches start 17:00)

The finals will feature a new “Rolling Conquest” ban system, where the team that was victorious in a preceding round will not be able to feature the same ships that they previously used, but do not carry over to subsequent matches.

You can find the rest of the rules here.

All teams entered the tournament with a 2,500 PLEX entry fee which has been added to a grand prize pool alongside additional CCP contributions such as the Mordus Triumphant Elite SKINs. Of course, there’s more than just prize money to be won here, with the title of victor tasting all the sweeter for the team that works hard to claim it.

This is the fifth time the Anger Games has returned as an annual event so if you want to take it that step further then join the Anger Games Discord and be the first to know about the next iteration of this exciting series. Teams are always looking for pilots and anyone is free to submit their teams to the games or join a team as a single pilot.

And for some lighter PvP action, a set of Abyssal Proving Grounds will be running throughout the duration of the games, so keep an eye on EVE News for more! If you can look away from the Anger Games, that is.

Second Capsuleer Day Proving Grounds!

Celebratory Capsuleers!

As this year’s Capsuleer Day event comes to a close, you’ll soon be able to wrap up the party in explosive style with an exciting new Proving Grounds!

With 19 years of EVE’s space saga under our belts, the next FFA Proving Grounds features a very fitting set of special conditions:

  • 19% increase to turret and missile damage
  • 19% increase to ship velocity
  • 19% increase to sensor strength
  • 19% reduction in ship signature radius

The ship of choice this time? The Sunesis, making this one party where everyone’s invited! The Meta Level requirement is 0, but the usual restrictions apply. When planning your fits, keep in mind that the following modules are banned:

  • Sensor dampeners
  • Weapon disruptors
  • Shield boost amplifiers
  • Shield rechargers
  • Shield power relays
  • Shield flux coils
  • Core defense field purgers

To liven up the party further, the arena itself will also add some explosive new features. Expect a number of Nexus objects scattered throughout the combat area. Approach them and you’ll gain a 19% buff - or debuff - to your weapons and mobility.

This second of two special Capsuleer Day APGs will run from 20-23 May. Start optimizing your fits for a suitable send-off to this year’s celebrations!

Catch up with Fanfest’s glorious return!

Fanfest-loving Capsuleers,

Fanfest 2022 has reached its conclusion, and we couldn’t have dreamed of a better event to reunite our community after too many years apart.

Bringing together so many of the EVE community in-person provided a very special opportunity to catch-up, share memories of the stories we’ve made and played together in New Eden, and get enthused about what is becoming a very exciting future for EVE Online. Fanfest may have ended, but there’s a lot to look forward to in New Eden!

And aside from the parties, pub-crawls and off-site adventures around Iceland, Fanfest saw all kinds of news stories, announcements, and insights about coming changes that will make EVE even better, as we power towards the third decade.

Through a series of presentations, developer interviews, roundtables and panels – many of which were watched live on CCP TV by pilots around the world – we got to share our vision of an ever more vibrant New Eden that thrives as a living universe driven by grand new narrative arcs, even more dynamic player-shaped stories, and a fresh generation of expansions.

You can catch up on all the key news from Fanfest in our stories rounding up Day One and Day Two of the event. In those stories you’ll find all kinds of detail on the new factional warfare system, changes to structures, the return of expansions in an evolved form, ship and structure customization with the all-new heraldry system, the role of the new InterBus credits, significant visual enhancements such as high-definition nebulas in addition to numerous other quality of life improvements, the experiences that greet new players, ambitious plans for multi-year narrative arcs, and plenty more.

You can still watch the full deep dive from Day Two including the EVE - A Living Universe Presentation and the keynote from Day One as well as catch up on all the presentations and announcements from Fanfest here. It’s far from too late to get a taste of the EVE Fanfest experience.

If you have any photos, videos or other memories from Fanfest 2022, get them on social media using the hashtag #tweetfleet. We’d love to see what you have to share!

For now, we’ll see you back in New Eden – and maybe at the next Fanfest in September 2023! More news on Fanfest 2023 is set to come, so keep your eyes locked to EVE News.

Photon UI – Iterating and Improving

Space-conscious Capsuleers,

Following on from the crazy adventure that was Fanfest 2022, the team is eager to get the latest Photon UI updates released for you to try. The May release has dozens of bug fixes and improvements based on your feedback. Here are just a few of those changes:
  • Chat update notifications return.
  • A new tabbed window header in select windows, utilizing header space better.
  • Inactive windows are more serene.
  • Animated grain texture removed.
  • Tab highlights are more balanced.
  • Lots and lots of bug fixes!

That’s not all, though. The June release is starting to take shape, too, with the headline feature being a compact UI mode for select windows in Photon UI. Make sure you check it out as it’s shaping up to be the modern UI EVE needs as it marches towards the third decade!

These changes wouldn’t be possible without the vibrant EVE Online community. Please continue giving your feedback and making New Eden the best place it can be!

Haven’t tried Photon UI yet? Launch EVE, head to the settings menu (Esc), and enable it under the Feature Previews tab to opt in. Later in the summer we will see the Neocom in Photon, animated elements, and Photon UI will transition to become an opt-out feature.

So keep testing, Capsuleers, and look forward to the bright future that is Photon UI!

Community Beat – Fanfest Edition

Greetings Capsuleers,

Welcome to this special Fanfest edition of the Community Beat! This time next week, many of you will already have descended on the rock to meet your friends, corpmates, and EVE Online developers. You‘ve been able to feel the vibe of Fanfest’s return around the office for many weeks, but we are growing increasingly excited to actually high-five old friends and make new connections over the event week. A lot is going on, so if you have not already, do make sure to check out the Fanfest 2022 Megablog we released earlier.

The Community team

It has been a good few years since we last met at an official event. We want to better introduce the Community team to all the pilots coming to the world’s best player convention. Our team are your primary points of contact – the Masters of the Ceremony, so to speak – who will be working tirelessly to ensure you are safe and having a fantastic time at Fanfest 2022.

So, let’s see who is up to what at Fanfest!

Dan – CCP Convict

The immortal CCP Convict has been with us for a while, and you might have flown with him in-game at some point in the 18 years he has been playing EVE Online. He is also a party veteran, so when you see him running around the venue, making sure all the online viewers get the best FF experience (and some SKINs!), give him a stellar high-five!

Current death count: 12

Peter – CCP Swift

CCP Swift, formerly known as Elise Randolph, needs no introduction. After 13 months on the job, he continues to grace everyone with the brightest smile known to humanity. Arguably, he has the best taste in music on the team. The rumor has it that you might score some extra drink tickets for the Party on the Top of the World by hugging him.

Bergur – CCP Paragon

It goes without saying that CCP Paragon is more excited about Fanfest 2022 than any other living organism in the known universe. He’s a seasoned FC, who once graciously offered dozens of dreads to his enemies during the armor timer on M-OEE8. Since CCP Paragon joined the team, we’ve decreased our average survivability rate doing roams from 20 minutes to 10 minutes.

Aiden – CCP Zelus

CCP Zelus might be the newest member on the team, but if you have ever played in EVE Online’s tournament scene, you’ll certainly have got a taste of General Stargazer’s iron fist treatment. Spoiler alert: he is a complete teddy bear in real life, but we would advise against squeezing him too hard. Can be found in Thunderdome at Fanfest!

Elias – CCP Bureaucat

Not actually a cat but, CCP Bureaucat still has his paws in a lot of things around the office. CCP Bureaucat is behind EVE Online’s social media, and spends a disproportionate amount of time on the official Discord server chatting away with everybody. When fresh blood in New Eden, CCP Convict once gave him a ship that he forgot, stationed 30 jumps away – a ship which he has tried to retrieve ever since, to no avail. New Player tips on how to avoid gate camps are welcome.

Kamil – CCP Dopamine

A baby in a man’s body who promised not to cry on stage again. CCP Dopamine supports the rest of the gang while they are out in space delivering awesomeness to pilots across New Eden.

Warning: risk of overdose. Please administer in moderation.

Join us at the Fanfest roundtables!

The community team are also going to host a couple of roundtables. There’ll be one to talk tournaments, and a second to discuss anything related to the community: programs, Council of Stellar Management, contests, social media, Twitch, communications, etc. We are really looking forward to seeing you there!

There are also many more excited CCPers that have spent the last several weeks preparing different things to make Fanfest a fantastic experience for you all, ranging from the content of the presentations to roundtables, extra activities, and much more.

John Bellicose Day

We want to extend the invitation from the Brave Alliance to take part in the Annual John Bellicose day to all Capsuleers. This Vigil will run from 23:59 on the April 28 until 00:00 on April 30:

We will be holding a 24h Cyno vigil in honor of John Bellicose, an inspirational member of the Brave community who sadly lost his life to suicide.

John Bellicose day is an honored tradition held by the Brave Alliance. The connections we make in this game are very real and very much a large part of this social game we play. Taking care of yourselves outside the game is important.

We will host the event on our home station Broadcast4Reps in Q-5211 in Pure Blind. We have another station in system that will be freeported and supplied with Cyno equipment & Fireworks for the day of the event.

We would ask that on this day All Brave pilots be welcoming and stay classy.

- Naverin
