Eve Online

EVE Academy – Basic Industrial Production

Academic Capsuleers,

A new tutorial has been added to EVE Academy! This video focuses on basic production, blueprints, and manufacturing as a part of the Industrialist path. You can find the video below or over on the EVE Academy site itself.

EVE Academy is your guide to New Eden - a website aimed at giving new EVE Online players the best start by providing a tailored learning experience. It provides a wealth of information designed to help you decide who you want to be. Pick from Explorer, Industrialist, Enforcer (PvE) or Soldier of Fortune (PvP) to get skill plans, beginner ship fittings, and curated links to resources created by the EVE Online community.

[previewyoutube="TGGKpe6MYrQ;full"]

Blueprints come in two variants, originals and their copies. Many of the Tech 1 (basic technology) blueprint originals can be purchased on the market from NPC sell orders depending on the region you are in. The blueprint window will then show you the materials required and the time that it will take to create that specific item.

You can start this process by placing the blueprint into the Industry window and selecting one of several jobs: manufacturing will create the item if you have the materials, copying will produce a limited copy for invention or production elsewhere, and research will either reduce the manufacturing time (Time Efficiency) or lower the amount of materials required (Material Efficiency). These science and manufacturing jobs will, however, take up build slots, limiting the number of jobs that a Capsuleer can have running at once.

New content is always being added to the Academy so be sure to check back regularly to get the latest new videos to help you excel in EVE Online!

Community Beat for 18 February

Welcome to the Community Beat! The last edition was all about NPSI communities, player-run tournaments and baking bread among other topics. This edition also includes something about making dough, but you'll have to read on to see what it is!

Vertical Supremacy

We were blown away by this incredible EVE ship build that Reddit user pablofrae2 posted over on the EVE subreddit. It’s a full scale, fully operational Naglfar-class dreadnought which was created in the game Space Engineers.

Linked in the post was a video of a tour around the ship and another of it in action against some NPCs. Amazing stuff!

Charitable Capsuleers

EVE streaming community Rampage Inc headed up by CSM member Merkelchen and featuring fellow CSM members Innominate and Brisc Rubal are currently hosting their second major charity auction.

Their previous auction was a painting by Mrs Brisc Rubal which fetched US$3,100 with all proceeds going to St Jude Children’s Hospital.

The current auction is for another painting by Mrs Brisc of a bottle of “New Boot Goofin’” and currently sits at US$1,000 raised with proceeds set to go to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA).

The auction ends on Saturday at 03:00 UTC (22:00 US EST on Friday) so there’s still time to get your bids in and you can watch the results live on the Rampage Inc Twitch channel from 01:30 UTC.

EVE Montreal

Do you like bacon? Do you like internet spaceships? Well why don’t you go to EVE Montreal to eat bacon and talk about internet spaceships!

This family-friendly EVE gathering in eastern Canada is taking place on 26 March from 11am local time. To X up just follow the instructions on the poster below. There’s more information at the link and you can reach out to admin@sorryinadvance.ca if you still have unanswered questions!

Travellers Returns!

Back in January a new EVE video series called New Eden Travellers debuted. Brought to you by Signal Cartel and created by renowned capsuleer Katia Sae, we were very happy to see the second episode drop just a few days ago. Enjoy the latest instalment, Mysterious Oddities, in this excellent series!

Partner Spotlight – The Oz

New Eden’s economy is as vibrant and intricate as some real-world countries and savvy capsuleers who want to know what’s happening with it know to tune in to The Oz’s stream. His insights into EVE’s thriving markets might just give you the edge to finally double your ISK. There’s a Discord and Youtube channel, too!

He writes:

Why should you watch this?
  • If you are starting out on Eve and have a general interest in the economic simulation of Eve online (which is excellent if I may add) then station trading is a very effective and fairly low risk way to fund your omega subscription - please do yourself a favor and try the other parts of Eve as well
  • Veterans who have never focused on trading, may learn to invest some of that ISK laying around by applying everything they have learned in the game and get some income on the side
  • Or just hang out and chat and discuss the Eve market - even better

Let us know what you think and share some of your stories over on the EVE Online Forums.

See you in two weeks for the next Community Beat! o7

EVE Online 2022 Update - Road to Fanfest

Greetings Capsuleers,

It’s been over six weeks now since 2022 began, and it’s already shaping up to be an exciting year for EVE. Fanfest will happen on EVE’s 19th birthday, and to get you into the Fanfest spirit there are a slew of important updates coming from now until the Party at the Top of the World in Reykjavík 6-8 May that will be covered in this blog.

Before that, let’s just take a quick look back at 2022 in EVE to date. The year started on what many would consider a surprising note with the EVE Online x Doctor Who crossover event ‘The Interstellar Convergence’. After a tumultuous start, it was great to see the buzz in the community as Capsuleers charted their path to Gallifrey to experience an event like no other.

This was further established with a huge uplift in hacking activity which skyrocketed to levels beyond what EVE has seen in several years. Not to mention the impact this event had in bringing crowds of fresh players to New Eden!It was a blast to see all the streams, Whovians talking about EVE, the dapper outfits, Doctor Who memes, and your firsthand experiences of battling foreign forces in New Eden until the bridge between the two universes closed on 1 February. The event allowed us to view EVE Online through new glasses and demonstrate the amazing potential for future EVE events.

THE ROAD TO FANFEST

In the coming months, EVE will be filled with many updates, including balance changes, new player focused features, and events leading up to Fanfest 2022, when CCP will be welcoming you all to Reykjavik for the first time in 4(!) years.

NEW PLAYER EXPERIENCE UPDATE - MYSTERY MINING ADVENTURE!

A significant update to the first hour of gameplay featuring a mysterious mining adventure is being added to the New Player Experience. This portion of EVE’s introductory experience will send you on a mining expedition fraught with intrigue and hints at the unfolding AIR storyline. Alongside Aura and the newly-introduced Elias Peltonnen, expect to learn the basics of mining and EVE’s economy in an engaging story-driven way.

In addition to the mining adventure, a feature that will help new players navigate the vast options EVE has to offer and find their true calling in New Eden is being worked on. This feature will be released later this winter.

ORBITAL WARZONE

We’ve seen some renewed action surrounding player owned customs offices (POCOs) and there are a few small upcoming quality of life changes when it comes to POCO warfare. From greatly reducing the gantry shield EHP (from 10,000,000 to 500,000) to increasing the onlining delay, our goals are to ensure fair and fun conflict for attackers and defenders alike, while rewarding players who manage to hold the field in High Security space.

REFLECTING SPACE – ANOTHER GRAPHICAL UPDATE

[previewyoutube="cLdy3j7A7TQ;full"]

There is a big graphical change coming in March that will improve reflections, as a follow-up to last year’s ‘Bring out EVE’s colors’

[previewyoutube="RZVerEChfqE;full"]

Previously, the reflections in EVE were based entirely on the background of the scene. This included the nebula and distant celestial objects, but not the immediate environment. Coming this March, reflections will start including structures, effects, and other significant objects in the space around you, increasing immersion and adding a whole lot of awesome.

AS THE SEASONS TURN

The Guardian’s Gala is back with some new elements! This year the celebrations hit new heights, which you can check out in the latest Scope where Alton Haveri reports on the theft of some compression prototypes by Serpentis and Angel Cartel pirates.

We will also see the return of Friendship Week which made its debut last year and The Hunt in April, all of which will lead up to Capsuleer Day celebrations during Fanfest in May!

TOGETHER WE COMPRESS

About that stolen compression technology; at the end of last year we announced a significant update to mining and industry in EVE Online that included, among other things, new methods of resource compression. When the full feature set was put on the Singularity test server, we received a ton of valuable and important feedback on the proposed changes, and took it back to the drawing board.

Industry is the backbone of EVE’s economy, so it’s important to understand how industrialists use these features today. Currently stations and structures offer lossless compression for asteroid ore and ice. We want that experience to be just as good and offer the same thing to in-space compression.

When we say that they will be able to offer the same service, we mean exactly that. While in space and in the same fleet as an industrial command ship with its industrial core active, you will be able to instantly compress resources of any amount from your hold – and compressing in stations & citadels remains unchanged.

The updates to compression are now ready to be shared with you again for feedback and will be available for testing on Singularity on 17 February. There are many details to dig into, which is why a detailed forum post will go out alongside the update. As always, your feedback is important to us and a crucial element in ensuring these changes have a positive impact in New Eden.

Until then, here is an overview of what you can expect from the release:

As you can see, as long as you are in range of a ship with an active compression module, in-space resource compression is as easy as the click of a button and will remain lossless. We look forward to sharing more details on these compression changes this week on our forums.

Alongside these updates to compression, there are several other balance changes incoming that we hope you will be excited about 😉

THE GLORIOUS BATTLESHIP

We love battleships, and we know you love them too. They are some of the most versatile ships in EVE and their legacy is packed with impossible feats and epic battles. While battleships are fielded, they are currently lacking in both mobility and survivability to justify using them more. We want to change that.

A new role bonus has been stitched onto all battleships which increases the effectiveness of armor plates by 50%, and bumps shield extenders by 100%. Large micro jump drive fitting will also be reduced substantially. This applies to ALL battleship variations, including faction battleships, marauders, and black ops. We can’t wait to see the new battles you wage and stories you create using these ships.

CRAB SEASON APPROACHES

The Concord Rogue Analysis Beacon has been successful as a lucrative option for capital owners and in-turn has renewed some big game hunting. However, we feel there’s room to increase rewards further for CRABbing, so the LP cost of the beacon blueprint will be decreased and the amount of Rogue Drone infestation data per run will increase.

BOLSTERED BULKHEADS – AN UPDATE TO SURGICAL STRIKE

The Surgical Strike release introduced changes in resistance bonuses granted by all modules. This was meant to reduce the power of capitals during the era of super umbrellas and increase the chance of scoring kills even on the losing side of a fight. While it’s good that indestructible force auxiliaries aren’t commonplace today, it’s also noted that some styles of gameplay - such as wormholes and Lowsec - lost parts of the combat meta they loved. In order to get the best of both worlds, there will be an update to the Surgical Strike changes to bring the updates closer to how things were before. To that end, resistance modules have had half the resistances they lost returned.

This also opens to door to more specialized fits and doctrines, while also enabling more ship diversity for all areas of combat.

RORQUAL HOTDROP

Following on from the March update, we will introduce a new industrial jump portal generator module, enabling Rorqual pilots to conduit jump mining ships near them. This module will work in a similar way to the black ops jump portal generator, allowing swift deployment to moon mining operations and more.

BLUEPRINT CHANGES

As mentioned in the Winter Status Update, we want faction ships, dreads and other capitals to be out in space, wreaking havoc on the battlefield - via well-orchestrated ‘dreadbombs’ or other means. To that extent, blueprint requirements will be updated prior to Fanfest.

STRUCTURES UPDATES ON THE WAY

The fabric of space changed significantly when the first structures were released in 2016. At the time, the complexity of this change to the meta was almost impossible to grasp. Since their release we’ve learned a lot and made numerous updates. This coming April we will see the next set of changes to them, when we will dive into various core mechanics and structure modules. The changes will be highlighted as we get closer to that date.

FANFEST AND BEYOND

There are a lot of things to look forward to from now until Fanfest, but you might be wondering what’s up with Quadrants? We’re glad you asked!

This update comes without a Quadrant theme to kick off the year. That is because it has been decided that after 2 full years, it’s time to evolve from Quadrants into something new, taking the good and combining it with learnings from previous efforts (such as the Invasion) as well as former expansions.

It’s been a great journey, and we’ve learned a lot along the way. However, as we look ahead and into the future, there are some bigger topics we want to tackle that will take more time than Quadrants allowed, making this the perfect time to take those learnings and enter a new era.

In this new framework, which will consist of a grander overarching narrative over a longer time period than the previous three month cycle, you can still expect a full cadence of events, balance changes, gameplay updates, trailers, etc. The pace of releases and fresh content in EVE will be maintained, but with the added flexibility to tackle larger projects as well. With it being part of an overarching narrative that evolves the story in New Eden, a happy medium between expansions, quadrants, and events such as the Triglavian Invasion will be achieved. We will dive deeper into this at Fanfest 6-7 May, and how it will impact your experience as an EVE player.

On that note, this Fanfest is gearing up to be one for the history books. Check out the official Fanfest website for more information or reach out to us if you have any questions! After a four-year hiatus, the whole EVE Team is thrilled to be able to join EVE players in taking on Reykjavík over a whole weekend.

In the meantime, we’re going to continue to release updates, host events, etc. to ensure you can continue to enjoy playing EVE with a packed schedule leading up to Fanfest.

See you in May, Capsuleers. Until then, fly safe!

Conversational Capsuleers!

During Fanfest 2022 we're looking for as many opportunities as possible to include YOU in the program! Party at the Proving Grounds!

Hard partying Capsuleers,

To celebrate the grand gate-crashing of the Guardian's Gala, a special Abyssal Proving Grounds event has been set-up, and it promises to be livelier than a Serpentis Corporation dancefloor in the small hours.

Running from 11-to-15 February, this unique Abyssal Proving Grounds round makes 1v1 destroyer combat its sole focus. And thanks to a blend of multiple arena effects and carefully selected restrictions, pilots can expect dramatic action, sudden twists of fate, and nail-biting conclusions.

The following arena effects will be in place throughout the event:
- +100% bonus to the benefits of overheating, other than EWAR
- +50% Stasis Webifier Strength
- +50% Turret and Missile Damage
- +25% Turret Falloff and Tracking Speed
- +1000 base hull hitpoints

The event is open to Coercer, Dragoon, Cormorant, Corax, Catalyst, Algos, Thrasher, Talwar, and Sunesis hulls. And you’ll need to enter without sensor dampeners, shield rechargers, shield power relays, shield flux coils, and core defence field purgers – all of which are banned for this Proving Grounds round. Ships entering for combat must also have a maximum of one local repair module fitted (either shield or armor).

Pilots that join this event will also be restricted to Meta 5 modules.

To take part in the Guardian’s Gala Abyssal Proving Grounds event, grab your Proving Filaments and head to the Proving Grounds between 11:00 UTC 11 February and 11:00 UTC 15 February. Of course, the Proving Grounds leaderboards will allow you to track Capsuleer performance throughout the event.

Guardian's Gala YC124

Wily Capsuleers,

The annual Guardian’s Gala returns for 2022! This high-roller event traditionally runs to celebrate the ongoing relationship between the Angel Cartel and Serpentis pirate factions. Unfortunately for them, however, Capsuleers have made it something of a tradition to crash the party!

This year features all the excitement you expect from the Gala – new combat and hacking sites, daily gifts, and more – but with a twist! Following a successful Serpentis and Angel Cartel raid on the ORE research facility in 4C-B7X, you now have the chance to dive in and steal back the valuable data to help ORE in getting its development back on track and get early access to skill books.

The Scope is busy preparing their holoreel report on the fate of the stolen Rorqual and her crew, until then check out the World News article to find out more

For less combat-focused Capsuleers, the hacking sites available offer some of the most lucrative ways to earn your keep. Both combat and hacking sites will have a chance to drop pilfered Data Fragments of the latest material compression technology. Community Beat for 4 February

Welcome to back, Capsuleers, to the Community Beat! In our last Beat we heard from Director of Product CCP Ratatti on the Declarations of War Podcast, learned all about the exciting EVE Pandora project, saw some very impressive arts & crafts, and gave you a great excuse to expand your EVE Discord servers!

There’s a lot to look forward to and so much happening in the game – so let’s get to it! Sit back, grab some Quafe and have fun!

Not Purple? Shoot It!

NPSI fleets earn their namesake from the default overview color for fleet-mates in EVE: purple. The concept is simple: public fleets, open to everyone, where everyone not in the fleet is a target. You may find yourself flying around strangers, allies, or even enemies – but in these fleets everyone is on the same side.

They are a great way to explore new areas of the game, meet new people, hone your skills, or just have some fun blowing things up. New Eden has a rich history of groups supporting this playstyle, and in recent times communities such as these have really taken off. The best resource we’ve found is the NPSI Community Calendar maintained by Fun Inc. With several fleets going out every day, the next fleet is just around the corner. What’s stopping you?

Lore Corner

What do you really know about the Angel Cartel? Most Capsuleers dismiss them as a small pirate outfit whose only duties are to pester the Republic across Minmatar space. It’s true that the Angel Cartel all but run the Minmatar underworld, but their reach extends into many of the major factions as well. The Secure Commerce Commission uncovered evidence of significant financial backings of prominent Caldari corporations tied to the Angel Cartel, corrupting the heart of Caldari industry. The Amarr Empire identified the Cartel as major players in the illicit slave trade. The Gallente Federation are hapless to control the flow of narcotics on the black market - all supplied by the Angel Cartel. They even have an entire offshoot, the Guardian Angels, tasked with supporting the operations of their close allies: the Serpentis Corporation.

If you’d like to learn more about the Cartel, their structure, history, and where their sneaky tendrils reach – head on over to the EVE Universe. Maybe some of this information will prove fruitful in the coming weeks…

Get That Bread

A lot of us have taken up additional hobbies over the last few years, and bread making tops the charts. Last month on Twitter, Frozen Sky on-upped us all with their amazing Minmatar Loaf! It even has a bit of a rusty crust going on. Glorious!

What EVE themed culinary creations have you come up with? Tweet us your best – or just post in the forum thread below – and the best selections will get some fancy SKINs!

Community Showcase - B4R

Competitive EVE – The Anger Games!

With the return of the Alliance Tournament last year, the competitive EVE scene is abuzz with upcoming competitions and contests. Next up on the list is the Anger Games 5 – a 7v7, 32 team, double elimination PvP tournament. Signups being tomorrow, 5 February, and run until 19 February.

While this is organized team-play, there are established teams looking for new members and budding teams looking to make their mark. With an inventive ruleset – anything can happen! This is an amazing way to get involved in EVE tournaments, meet some new people, and advance your PvP skills. Check out the ruleset or hop onto the Official Anger Games Discord to find a team.

The main event will be taking place in the last week of May and into June – we hope to see you there!

That’s all for this edition of the Beat. We’ll be back in two weeks with all new information and insights into the wonderful EVE community. Share some stories, let us know what you want to know more about, and of course let us see those culinary masterpieces on the EVE Online Forums.
