Demo Update Available - Version 0.40.15

Hear ye, hear ye, citizens of Eville! There's a small demo update available now to improve your murder-y experience. If it doesn't update automatically, you can force the update by clicking, "Verify integrity of demo files."

Make sure to play on the same version, or you won't be able to see each other's lobbies.

Changes:
- Added link to a video tutorial in the main menu
- Medic's First Aid now only heals a player, if they're below 25% of their health

Bugfixes:
- Guard's Bulwark is only active when they have been summoned and deactivated once the day starts
- Slanderer - Face Morph was visible during the night if used during the day-night cutscene
- Pressing ESC in the Main Menu when the game guide is open closed all menus
- Lobby Info Box inside the Lobby (bottom right) no longer overlaps if the Game Guide is open
- Language names should no longer overlap with the player number in the session browser
- Players should no longer spawn inside a player home in the lobby
- Empty player frames are no longer shown during a vote (this was actually already fixed earlier today in the previous update)

UPDATE 0.39 - GETTING TOGETHER

SALUTATIONS, Villagers!



Hello friends of Eville! Welcome to our latest update 0.39 Getting Together. In this update we’ve focused on bringing our players together with exciting new features required for any Village and its inhabitants!

Opening The Tavern


Were you getting tired of making a new lobby at the end of every game hoping that your new friends would join in again and again? Well worry not! Eville has opened their Tavern as the go to meet up place for all players before starting your game! Even better, when your game ends you will all be returned to the lobby to laugh about your past doings in game! In this lobby, the Host will be able to change settings on the fly from difficulty to more advanced settings like adjusting times to events in game!


Easy Beginnings


Speaking of new settings, We’ve reworked the Easy mode in Eville. The Easy mode difficulty allows Villagers new to the social deduction genre to figure out the basic mechanics of the Eville. Only the most basic of roles are available. The map is also closed off in many areas such as the forest, fortress ruins, and some areas where Villager homes would be located. This keeps new Villagers centralized so as to not overwhelm newcomers with the full extent of the map. For Conspirators the underground is also off limits leaving you to the basic Con rule of break into homes at night and murder. We’ve also moved potions and potion-crafting to the more advanced difficulty modes.



Hello? Is this thing on?


So we've mentioned the fancy Tavern for you and all your new friends to hangout before heading off into Eville. How are you supposed to converse with players? Discord? Text chat? How about proximity voice chat! We’re thrilled to finally bring you in game voice chat to Eville. Prepare to fully immerse yourself as you speak with other Villagers and no longer know what may be happening at other parts of the map! Currently voice chat settings are connected to your default mic and playback settings on your PC. You can adjust input and output volumes ingame as well as toggle push to talk or open mic in your game settings!


Look out there!


Life in Eville has also spanned out beyond its gates. You'll notice that farms have sprung up past the old fortress walls. If you make your way to the docks, look out towards the forest you'll see trees have grown and stretch along the entire coast!


More Acora!


The Acora have stirred up in popularity in Eville! With that more Acora have settled in the area. You’ll now be able to choose between more Avatars in your equipment settings!


User Interface Changes


We’ve revamped the Lobby creation and join menus. All supporting Keyboard/Mouse/Controller.




Other changes, Balancing and minor improvements



  • Ghosts – Ghosts now receive 1/4th of their coins as Spirit Tokens (was 1/5th before)
  • Sound – Added a sound effect when a body is reported
  • Easy Difficulty - Removed Seer, replaced with Detective
  • UI - Day number is now shown by the timer in the HUD
  • Audio – Added more variance to day/night ambience sounds


BUGFIXES



  • Game-Breaking – Dead players would not become ghosts if they we're reported immediately after dying
  • Game-Breaking: Dead character corpses (not Ghosts) interacting with living players caused the target player to not be able to be voted out and many other issues such as:
  • Game-Breaking: Sometimes players weren't able to interact with anything
  • Game-Breaking: Sometimes conspirators weren't able to assassinate players
  • Game-Breaking: Dead Trapper's traps did not work and broke living players stepping into it
  • Game-Breaking: Players could heal up while in the cage on fire and assassinate a player after they were teleported outside
  • Game-Breaking: Players could sometimes ring the emergency bell during a meeting
  • UI – Current Player number is now correctly shown in the lobby browser
  • UI – Max player number now updates in the lobby browser when the difficulty is changed by the host
  • UI - Option menu had issues for clients in the lobby
  • UI - Fixed some typos
  • Quests - Quest arrow pointed to nowhere for Seer after using the Watchful Eye ability
  • Seer - You could use the Watchful Eye ability in player homes when you used it while walking outside the door
  • Trapper - could place traps by inaccessible areas
  • Smuggler - vendor buddy ability had vendors did not allow him to buy some items
  • Mayor - Showed the wrong passive ability income rewards in the ability
  • General – Player home entranced were misplaced for clients
  • General – Players could move their dead corpse while they weren't ghosts yet
  • General – Jumps did not trigger foot step sounds
  • General – When opening the game it would show the Sorcerer in the main menu until the proper equipment was loaded
  • General – Vendor items had the drop item option (but it did nothing)
  • Item – Smoke bombs broke player interaction when used at night
  • Slanderer– Using the 'Fake Emergency' Ability prevented players from skipping the day afterwards
  • Lobbies – Lobbies did not close properly sometimes
  • Audio – No river sounds at night
  • Audio – No music in the underground
  • Audio – Forest sound ambience reached into the village
  • Audio – Jumping had no step sound effect
  • Audio – Walking on hay had a "stone" sound effect
  • Audio – Camilla avatar was "male", so it played the male sound effects
  • Visual – Sometimes Avatars would not be loaded properly
  • Visual – Anti-Aliasing caused black dots to appear sometimes
  • Visual – You could watch through some unintended places, such as some parts of the town wall, below the skeleton in the Endless Mists, the ground by the mansion
  • Visual – Trapped Souls no longer glow through walls
  • Visual – Some LODs caused wrong textures to be shown on buildings
  • Visual – Fixed the character-burning-shader
  • Performance - Solved some issues for low-end devices
  • Animations - The wine barrels quest NPC clipped through the tabled
  • Collisions - Some areas caused the players to be stuck (Lamppost at marked, Black market in underground, tree near graveyard)
  • Collisions - Fixed collisions for graveyard trees, cobblestone bridge, rock below wooden steps, handrails by the judges, the tavern by the castle, stairs by the blacksmith, invisible wall by the obelisk, player home chest, bridge in underground, the skeleton leg in the underground,
  • Collisions - Ghosts could dash on top of the witch hut

UPDATE 0.38 - WELCOME HOME

SALUTATIONS, CAVE DWELLERS!



This update brings you a new underground, player homes as well as several quality of life features.

A new home


We have redesigned the player homes from the ground up and changed up the layout a bit.
All objects have been replaced and the look is much more detailed and polished - we hope you like it as much as we do.



Additionally many objects in the player home will appear in each player's color (as you can see with the red player home above).
Conspirators will now have an easier time getting a kill when coming through the trap door



A world below


When watching testers play Eville we noticed a lot of players being confused by the underground layout, and rightly so. It was a network of tunnels vaguely representing the path layout of the map above, but it didn't translate to the underground properly leaving everyone confused during gameplay.
We went back and came up with what we believe is a better (and prettier!) solution.



The new underground has two chambers. A main room with the black market vendor and exits to all the trapdoors in the map.
The other room has all player home entrances circled around a tunnel with a minecart letting you traverse fast. On you map you can see all player home entrances as well.
In general this should help you not feel lost and traverse the underground much faster.



New Music!
We have added several new track to the game including – finally – a Main Theme for Eville!
There are also several new darker day tracks that play after you find the first body and music in the Endless Mists for our deceased folks.

User Interface Changes


We’ve added a large new menu covering several aspected. All supporting Keyboard/Mouse/Controller.




There is:

  • an improved in game map that also lists all players in their color – can be opened by pressing “Tab”
  • a new role overview that shows all the important details about your own role – can be opened by pressing “C”
  • an improved Game Guide with more content and better role details – can be opened by pressing “G”
  • a Event and Chat log, showing you everything that happened in the game so far – can be opened by pressing “L”


The pause menu and option menus have also been redone to support controllers as well.



Other changes, Balancing and minor improvements



  • Balance – Ghosts quests bring less progress to the faction goal
  • Voting – Deceased, but unreported players are now shown in the voting screen
  • Map – Added many more player homes in the map that players can possibly have assigned
  • UI – Improved player colors – more discernable colors
  • UI – Player names are now shown on homes in the game map
  • UI – Improved the Death Screen – with a fancier presentation
  • UI – Improved Game End introduction a bit as well
  • UI – A message is shown at night when the full moon event was triggered


BUGFIXES



  • General – The new underground had no icons on the map for trapdoors and player homes
  • General – Full moon event happened each night after it was triggered once
  • General – The fog event did not trigger when caused by ghosts at night
  • General – The full moon event did not trigger when caused by ghosts at night
  • General – Some abilities did not work at night, if player or location selection was necessary
  • General – The protection zone in the town square blocked the placement of some abilities
  • General – When the camera showed a dead reported player you could use several abilities and place them by the body
  • General - Pingable map is no longer usable at night
  • General – You could brew potions if you had the same type already in your inventory, by just ignoring the greyed-out button and clicking on the full-sized panel
  • General – If you picked up a spawned herb no herb would ever spawn in that spot again
  • Visual – Dead players were shown as reportable at night if you hovered over them
  • Voting - “Abstain” was selected if you had selected it on the day before
  • Conspirator – The fog was too strong in the underground at night
  • Conspirator – Conspirators could kill people inside the protection zone by just standing on the corner and attacking toward the inside
  • Slanderer – Fake alarm bell – If used shortly before the night, the night would show a day timer (visual bug)
  • Seer – Watchful Eye – Camera was zoomed in too far
  • Seer – Watchful Eye – Seer was not able to move after being awakened by ghosts while using the watchful eye
  • Detective – Sneak out – Black screen caused by death while sneaking around at night
  • Ghosts – Ghosts didn’t see the color of other ghosts on the minimap
  • Ghosts – Ghosts player icon was not visible on the game map
  • Ghosts – Ghosts didn’t see the day skip vote
  • Ghosts – Invisibility Ability – did not work when used at night
  • Ghosts – Corpse marker – If used on a person, that already had a marker it was used up, but still stayed in the inventory
  • Ghosts – Quests interaction were sometimes too far away, causing you not being able to interact from afar
  • Ghosts – Living Attachment – Did not work on Seer’s while in the Watchful Eye ability
  • Ghosts – You could fall through the open circle by the Guide NPC in the Endless Mists
  • Ghosts – Skelly Man – Guide NPC had no name!
  • Ghosts – Invisibility – Ability did not affect back items and accessories
  • Ghosts – Quest – Leading NPCs to portal had multiple game breaking bugs
  • Ghosts – Quest – Scaring away Ghosts did have an issue with multiple players on the same quest
  • Item – Smoke bomb did not work when used at night
  • Item – Smoke bomb did not work when used on corpses
  • Item – Smoke bomb usage could not be cancelled properly
  • Item – Corpse Marker – Multiple stacked corpse markers caused the sound effect not to go away after a report
  • Quest - Barrel Quest - You could "Use" the barrel and have the debuff applied multiple times
  • UI – Some role artworks were stretched when distributing them at the start of a game
  • UI – Player homes of dead players had the wrong icon on the full map
  • UI – Players could see ghost’s icons on the minimap
  • UI – Brewing a potion was greyed out if you already owned a potion of said type – now it shows the ingredients in red/green if you carry them or not
  • UI – Player nameplate height sizes are fixed and don’t scale up with shorter names anymore
  • UI – Fixed some typos in the Game Guide
  • UI – Controller Trigger and Shoulder button icons were shown incorrectly in the UI
  • UI – Fixed Game Client Logo
  • UI – Client Ghosts saw themselves as white on the minimap
  • UI – Quest warning windows stayed open if you walked away from the Quest NPC
  • UI – The player number in the nameplate sometimes was 0
  • UI – The item tags in the vendor our was broken on clients
  • UI – Role assumption icons clipped with the player nameplates
  • UI – Herb witch had no name on the game map
  • Sound – Pickup’s sound bugged out after you interacted with the herb witch
