The full version of Project Coreward has been released!

Hi Everyone,

I know there's some fans of this project who maybe haven't heard the news. Here goes:

The Full Version Has Been Released!

Thank you to everyone over the years who's payed attention, given me props, and tried out Exoplanet.

Phew, it's been a roller coaster! But, a big chapter for this solo developer comes to a close. Have fun out there!

Welcome to the demo for Project Coreward!

Hi everyone, tonight I'm pleased to release Exoplanet as the free demo for: Project Coreward.

Project Coreward, the completion of Exoplanet, is releasing in mid-January 2024. This is the real deal! Project Coreward is a 10 hour plus open-world RPG and the culmination of years of work. It is the full Exoplanet experience extended, rebranded and REBUILT.

One final note, this build will break all legacy Exoplanet save games. If you'd like the "old" Exoplanet game back, you can switch your branch in the game settings to the beta version:
LIKE THIS

Exoplanet Act I Available Now!

This is a major milestone for the project.

This update represents a year of solo work. The dialog, plotline and story elements of the game have been completely revamped.

The framework for plotline implementation is complete and Exoplanet now has several hours of story driven gameplay, with more to come.

Please continue to enjoy this project. I've poured my heart into this update.

NOTE THAT PREVIOUS SAVE GAMES MAY WORK, BUT WILL NOT, AT ALL, GIVE YOU THE PLOTLINE EXPERIENCE. IT'S RECOMMENDED YOU START A NEW GAME.

Brief Release Notes:

  • Act I of the Main Questline
  • Enhanced Waypoints
  • Video Tutorial System
  • Ship Balance
  • Class 6 everything now available!
  • UI Enhancements
  • Several New "Fun Features"
  • Many Many Bug Fixes

Thank you so much!

If you find a bug, besides commenting on this announcement, it's most reliable to find me in the Starflight 3 Discord fan games section. You should also be able to find me by name, here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/starflight3/

Meet The Space-Faring Members of Exoplanet!

Plot Development Continues!

Hello adventurers! Along with a new trailer release[previewyoutube="QbGnGAXuLu0;rightthumb"], I thought it'd be fun to introduce (most of) the different space faring species in Exoplanet. Some of them are inspired by Starflight. Some of them are inspired by whatever assets I could wrangle on the cheap and create a backstory for. Such are the tactics of a solo developer!

Without further ado, meet:

The Hyghu

A very industrialized and xenophobic species, the Hyghu work collectively to serve their own interests. They have a blob like bi-pedal appearance, and their massive ships float through the Galaxy in search of the raw materials needed to build more ships. The Hyghu might hide some dark secrets, or they might secretly be willing to help you save the Galaxy. It's up to the player to understand their true motivation.

The Veloxi

A hard working, hardy and religious insectoid species, the Veloxi worship the wondrous lights, and are driven to understand the divine meaning of the Galaxy. Might their religion be rooted in meaningful scientific attainment, solving some of the Galaxy's most dangerous troubles with knowledge? It's hard to tell, with all that ceremony.

The Nresh

An aquatic species that should be to fragile to roam the Galaxy, the Nresh have overcome their brittle nature and evolved another kind of intelligence. Fantastic communicators, perhaps they are the key to understanding others? One thing is for sure, they don't like those insects up there.

The Mykle

The Mykle are not many, but trillions. Able to inhabit a variety of mediums, these micro-organisms work together to shift the shape of their hosts and accomplish feats of engineering and medicine unobtainable by larger, more clumsy beings. But, can they be trusted? A few Mykle are so dang hard to detect.

The Ulneh

An ancient, highly evolved and mysterious species, the Ulneh are masters of space and time. They truly seem unconcerned with the Galaxy's ordinary affairs. Will this hubris lead to their downfall? Maybe, but until then, you don't want to make the Ulneh angry. Once they're angry at you, you might end up anywhere, such as on the wrong end of their incredibly powerful weapons.

Work indeed continues. Exoplanet is a free download and the work of a solo developer. Thank you everyone so much for the support, kind words, bug reports and overall excitement. I'm excited too!

Lakes update 2021

- Black Egg functionality, you can now destroy planets! Pssst, press "F11" while in orbit to see this in action! There is one hidden Black Egg, but I doubt anyone will find it.
- Lakes! Each planet can contain above sea-level bodies of water.
- Minor fixes to the tree rendering.
- Some backend work to make plotline implementation easier.

July 2019 Update

This is a very big update, and represents a lot of work for this solo developer.
I can see the light at the end of the tunnel for a proper tribute to my favorite game of all time, Starflight.

  • SteamVR 2.0 input handing with Valve Index controller support
  • Save/load game functionality
  • Music
  • Crew creation and customization, including multiple species
  • Ship creation and customization
  • A money and inventory system
  • Map markers and objectives
  • A messages and notification system
  • A colony world recommendation system
(the only way to make money currently)
  • Starport (Bank, Operations, Personnel, Crew Assignment, Ship Configuration, Trade Depot)
  • Volumetric nebula
  • Planet side ship rendering (really adds to the immersion)
  • Enhanced planet metadata
  • Various UI updates and fixes
  • A new large menu system

Exoplanet has come a long way, and I'm very exited about today's update. It lays the groundwork for a full open world RPG. I'd say I'm about 80% done, overall. Unreleased work is a full event driven story. I have most of the tools to implement this in the engine, today. Once the story is done, a big update will drive it to completion. Exoplanet will always be free!

Enjoy!
