Extremely Powerful Capybaras

Extremely Powerful Capybaras Wins Best Multiplayer at Gamescom Latam!

Hey there, Capy-Friends!

We hope you’re having fun with the new content we added recently in the game’s big update, and we wanted to share some exciting news with you.

Extremely Powerful Capybaras won the Best Multiplayer Game award at BIG Festival/Gamescom Latam 2024!!!

The realization is still sinking in for the whole team: Yann, Nicolas, João, Mateus, Mabel, and Cezar. A few years ago we were all watching Indie Game: The Movie and crying together, promising that we would become game devs. We made it!

This wouldn’t have been possible without all of you, too, who have played and supported the game on Steam. We have strived to make it the best game we can and are grateful for all of you.

Thank you, and stay Capy!

HOTFIX V1.2.1

🔧 FIXES 🔧

  • Fixed a bug where the Capybara Shop upgrades for each Class would not affect the Class Synergy's base stats.
  • Fixed a bug where the player's stats would reset and get stuck to the Class Synergy's base stats after evolving during a run.
  • Fixed a bug where ability descriptions in the Level Up Menu would display incorrect stat numbers if a player had purchased upgrades for that ability in the Upgrade Shop.
  • Fixed a bug where LB/RB (on controllers) and Z/C (on keyboard) inputs would not work in the Upgrade Shop, Capybara Shop and Skin Shop in local multiplayer.
  • Fixed a bug where the buttons on the Feedback Menu (F8) would not work properly, which caused players to not be able to submit their feedback.

We have noticed that some players had lost their Capybara Shop upgrades for the Assassin Class after the V1.2 update. That happened due to a save compatibility issue between V1.1 and V1.2, where the reference to the Assassin Class inside the Capybara Shop ended up getting lost.

Players affected should be able to get their Upgrade Ranks again by spending Capy-Tokens. We would like to deeply apologize for the inconvenience.

Thank you all for playing our capybara game and for all the feedback. Stay Capy! 🐾

Hey there, Capy-friends!🐾🎉

Extremely Powerful Capybaras V1.2 is here! Our dev-baras have been hard at work to bring you this update, and it’s got a bunch of stuff for you to see when you enter the game again and get out of those hot springs!

Without further ado, here’s all the content for 1.2!

✨ NEW CONTENT ✨

NEW ARENA: Cursed Gardens!

Enter these strange grounds full of eerie plants and greenery. Face hordes of monsters among wicked trees, carnivorous plants and laser-shooting guaraná fruits!
Wait... What’s wrong with that flower bed in the middle? 🌱👀

NEW MONSTERS:

The Cursed Gardens are populated by many plant-based monsters with all-new behaviors that threaten the survival of the capys. These include:

ELITES:

These special enemies will show up at certain times during a run and have abilities of their own to use against you, which can mix up the gameplay quite a bit. Stay on your toes!

HAZARDS:

Every minute or so, the flower beds surrounding the arena can grow carnivorous plants or guaraná fruits that will make navigating the Cursed Gardens a bigger challenge!

NEW SHOP: Capy-Skins!

The Capy-Skin Shop is open for business! Our Capy-Stylist has 18 skins for sale, 3 for each class! These costumes change the look of both the Capy-Classes and their primary weapons. These Capy-Skins are an all-new way to spend your hard-earned Capy-Coins - NO microtransactions here. Just head on to the new Capy-Stylist NPC to give your looks an upgrade!

NEW MUSIC AND SFX:

When you enter the Cursed Gardens for the first time, you’ll find out that its tunes are different than usual. But don’t think it’s the only one! EPC’s Arenas have gone through a major sound upgrade, with each Arena having its own theme song, as well as updated SFX and ambience!

STEAM OFFLINE MODE SUPPORT:

Finally, here’s another highly requested feature that we’ve brought to you - full support for Steam Offline Mode! If you have limited or no internet access, for example, but Steam is open in Offline Mode, you will still be able to play the game without being stuck in the "Initializing..." screen.

🖌️ CHANGES 🖌️

EPC has gone through several UI/UX revisions and Quality of Life improvements. Here’s a list of the most relevant menus and features that were updated:

  • Upgrade Shop Menu
  • Capybara Shop Menu
  • Achievement Library Menu
  • Game Setup Menus
  • Tutorial Overlay screens
  • Treasure Pot Opening screen
  • Results screen
  • Added a loading bar to the bottom of the Loading Screen when you enter or leave an arena
  • Added Ultrawide support for the Credits Screen
  • Added tooltips to the options in the Visual Effects Menu
  • When the timer hits zero and the Boss spawns in an Arena, they’ll now do so through a mini cutscene! Players aren’t able to move while it plays, but they’ll regain control as soon as it’s over.
  • The Capyblessing Tutorial screen now triggers separately for each of the players during online multiplayer.
  • Since Volcanic Springs is no longer the final Arena, the Credits no longer play when its Boss is defeated. Instead, they are now accessible directly from the Pause Menu.

🔧 FIXES 🔧

  • Fixed a bug where P2 would start controlling P3’s choices in the Level Up screen if another player had left the game after a previous run.
  • Fixed a bug where more than one player would share the same player number (P2, P3 or P4) if one of them left and then rejoined P1’s hub.
  • Fixed a bug where a multiplayer run would end if a player was revived at the same time the last standing player died.
  • Fixed a bug where a player would get multiple Level Ups at once and then get stuck in the Loading screen after ending a run if another player left the arena during the same run.
  • Fixed a bug where players would get stuck in the Loading screen after an online run if P2 died at the same time P1 selected the “End Run” option.
  • Fixed a bug that allowed players in multiplayer runs to get multiple Primary Weapon levels in just one Treasure Pot if there was more than one player with the same Class.
  • Fixed a bug where a player that accepted an invite from another while being in a singleplayer run would have the Arena HUD (timer, level bar, etc.) on display after arriving on the other player’s hub.
  • Fixed a bug that would make the camera focus on players that died instead of the ones still alive during a run.
  • Fixed a bug where the Treasure Pot’s coin sound effect would keep playing on loop if players died or ended the run at the same time the Pot was opened.
  • Fixed a bug where some weapon sound effects (like the Laser Lamp and Boomerang Slipper ones) would keep playing infinitely during the Results and Level Up menus.
  • Fixed a bug where sound effects would keep playing in the Loading screen after a run ended.
  • Fixed a bug where the left/right toggles icons would not show up in the shop menus.
  • Fixed a bug where NPCs' text bubbles would appear on top of other menus.
  • Fixed a bug that broke the visuals and hitbox of the Pororoca Wave ability, making it change its shape and size depending on the direction the player was facing.
  • The Capy-Tokens Tutorial screen no longer interrupts the Bosses’ death animations.
  • Fixed a few issues that happened after reaching “Extremely Powerful” (level cap), including having some enemies become invincible.
  • Fixed a bug where the “Extremely Powerful” (level cap) visual effects on the player would not be turned off once they got back from a run.
  • NPC’s now react properly when the player gets a new Achievement.
  • Fixed a visual bug where the “Arena” billboard near the portal would appear above players’ numbers.
  • Fixed a bug where Abilities that got an Upgrade Rank 1 or higher would permanently keep its Rank (the number of flames below the Ability’s picture) in the board they appeared in during the Level Up Menu.
  • The Categories tab inside the Controls Menu had its localization properly implemented.
  • Fixed a bug where a player that entered another player’s hub would see the players inside that hub in the wrong order (P2 > P1 > P3) in the Pause Menu if the other players had selected their classes beforehand.
  • Fixed a bug where a player that entered another player’s hub would not be able to see the correct Class portraits in the HUD for the players inside that hub if the other players had selected their classes beforehand (any players that did this would appear as Naked).
  • Fixed a bug where a player that entered another player’s hub would not see other players’ Class portraits in the Pause Menu if the other players had selected their classes beforehand.
  • Fixed a bug where each player’s Dash ability icon would not show up to other players depending on the moment each of them joined the P1’s hub in online multiplayer.
  • Fixed a bug that made the Level Up Menu tooltips remain on screen if the player moved their cursor to the top of the screen fast enough right before the Level Up was over.
  • Fixed a bug where the “Nightfall” Frenzy Mode modifier would not work to players beside P1 in an online run.
  • Fixed a bug that caused Monsterball enemies in River Rat’s City and Volcanic Springs to not be affected by the “Enraged Foes” Frenzy Mode modifier.

This update ended up being much bigger than we initially expected, and it took quite some time for it to finally be out, but we couldn’t be happier to share it with you. We’d like to thank you all for your patience. We hope everyone has fun in the hot springs!

Once again, thank you all for all the support and valuable feedback. Stay Capy! 🐾

With much love,
Dev-baras ❤️

BUG FIXES

We have been reading through each piece of feedback you’ve been sending to us through the Feedback Menu (F8), so the next update will also bring several fixes to address your reports, both old and new.

We've had to make a lot of revisions to the base code of the game to improve our debugging process and EPC’s overall stability while also preparing the game for the next batch of updates. We know it’s taking a bit longer than usual, but we hope that the wait will be worth it!

As you can see, we've got a ton planned for this update. Our goal is to deliver this update with as much stability as possible, so you can expect it to arrive sometime in April.

Thank you all for all the support. As always, stay Capy! ❤️

Remote Play with Friends discount ends soon!

Just a friendly reminder that you can save a pretty pile of Capycoins, or whatever your local currency is (20% off the sticker price!) if you act now and nab the game during the Steam-wide Remote Play with Friends event!

Our v1.1 update is also now live, which features a lot of quality of life improvements for the multiplayer experience! We've taken feedback from all of our capy-friends and added a few extra special touches to make it a much more rewarding experience to share with some of your favorite critters, so be sure to check it out!

But remember, we're not done yet! We have plenty of updates in the works and even more exciting announcements for those of you that can't keep your petting hands out of reach of these extremely capy-shaped friend-baras.

Thanks again for chilling with us, and we hope to see you dive in again soon!

PATCH V1.1

Hey there, Capy-friends! 🐾🎉

We’re very happy to say that a new major update is now live! Sorry to keep you waiting - we know it’s been a while - but we needed to take our time to address the feedback everyone gave us, since it’s been our biggest priority from release.

This update brings some much-requested overhauls to the Level Up menu and Local multiplayer control assignment menu. Also, to celebrate the Lunar New Year, our Capy-Hub has a temporary new look!

So without further ado, here’s all we’ve got for you today, capybara warriors!

NEW

  • Level Up Overhaul: the level up is a lot different now, both in looks and in the way it functions. It also works differently depending on whether you’re diving into an Online or Local game:

Online: the Level Up screen is now separate to each player, with every capy seeing a unique set of four options. These options change according to each player’s own game progression, like unlockable Abilities appearing for players that have them, and Ability Ranks show according to what upgrades each player has in their Upgrade Shop (e.g. if the Hummingbirds appeared for two online players on a Level Up, but one had no Ability Ranks and the other had 3, the Ability will appear as Rank 0 for Player 1 and Rank 3 for Player 2).

The Level Up screen now also runs on a timer when playing online. Every time a player selects an Ability, a “Ready” popup will display on top of the player for every other Capy, also showing which Ability their friend picked. Once all players have made a selection, the Level Up will end.

If a player does not select an Ability before the timer runs out, that player will basically have skipped the Level Up, while the others will receive the upgrades or new Abilities they selected. This was done to help prevent online desyncs (where some players would get stuck in the Level Up screen while others kept playing as normal), something that came up a lot in players’ feedback.

Speaking of which, Rerolls and Skips are now separate for each player in Online matches, which was also another requested feature!

Finally, since the selection is now separate for each capybara, this means players no longer need to share the same 4-Ability selection amongst themselves, which could sometimes force players to select an Ability they didn’t want. This was easily one of the most requested features, and so we made this one of our top priorities for this patch.

Local Multiplayer: the Level Up screen is still shared, but now players are no longer forced to select a different Ability from the others - all four players can select the same one if they wish to, even! The boards for each Ability in the Level Up system now have a slot below them. Whenever a player selects an Ability, their Capybara’s portrait will appear in the slots, so everyone can keep track of who selected what.

A few things to have in mind: the Local multiplayer’s Level Up does not have a timer (and neither does the Singleplayer one), and the Reroll button still affects everyone, unlike in Online multiplayer.

One last note: now, you can see the stat changes for each Ability’s level, as well as its Ability Rank directly as a tooltip on your cursor, without the need for selecting the Ability first!

  • Shops & Achievement Library: it’s not only the Level Up menu that looks different to each Capybara in Online play - the Upgrade Shop, Capybara Shop and Achievement Library can now be opened even while in another player’s hub, and they’ll always reflect the things you bought and the Achievements you got in your own save, rather than being tied to the host. This means you no longer need to go back to your own hub to unlock things in-between runs! This was another one of the most requested features by the community, so we’re really happy to bring it to you in this patch!

  • Treasure Pot’s UI: the Treasure Pot has a new UI to match the Level Up overhaul, as well as a similar timer in Online multiplayer (for the same reason we implemented timers in the Level Up screen - to prevent online desyncs). Like in the Level Up, each Capy will only see the upgrade to their own Primary Weapon, rather than displaying everyone’s.

  • New “Manage Players” Menu: this is our new Control Assignment Menu for Local multiplayer! Here, you can assign the controls for each Capy.

As of this update, you no longer need two or more controllers to play a local run with just two players - you can do it with just one keyboard and one controller! Please note that when you first plug in a controller locally, it gets assigned automatically to Player 1, but as soon as Player 2 is added through this screen, you can assign them either the keyboard or controller.

This was yet another of the most requested features from our feedback list, and we hope you can enjoy playing locally with your fellow Capys even more from now on!

  • New Key Bindings System: Our Controls menu is bigger and better than ever! Now, you can define inputs for regular Gameplay (movement, dashing, etc), Interface (interacting with menus) and finally the Chat. Additionally, you can change the inputs for each of the players joining you locally. Customize the way you play to your liking - as well as any Capy that’s by your side!

  • Improved Menu Navigation: All the menus’ navigation (such as in the Level Up screen, Shops and Pause) is now centered around cursors, meaning players can move their cursors freely through the whole screen - regardless if they’re using a gamepad, keyboard or mouse.

  • New Landing Page: EPC now has a new landing page that appears when you launch the game, right before you go to the hub!

  • Capy-Hub Lunar New Year Decorations: for the month of February, the Capy-Hub is fully fitted with Year of the Dragon lanterns, statues and other thematic elements! Come enjoy the festivities, Capys!

CHANGES

  • Multiple players can now select the same Capy-Class by stepping in the pedestals for the same Class statue!

  • Optimizations were made to the game in order to reduce lag/stuttering near the end of runs.

  • Some abilities were revisited according to player’s feedback:

Mask of the Pacifist

  • Affected Stat changed from Movement Speed to Heal Buff (giving +20% Heal Buff per level).
  • Damage debuff was removed.

Mask of the Warmonger

  • Damage increase per Ability Rank was buffed.
  • Movement Speed debuff was removed.

Amulet of Confidence

  • Critical Chance increase was buffed in all levels.

Amulet of Despair

  • Damage increase was buffed in all levels.

Potion Fruit

  • Range increase was buffed in all levels.
  • Defense debuff no longer scales when leveling, staying the same as Level 1.

Last Roll Dice

  • Critical Damage increase was buffed in all levels.

Odd Orb

  • The Odd Orb was revamped to continuously deal damage to enemies touching it.
  • The time the Odd Orb stays on screen was increased.

To close up this post: this is EPC’s first major update post-launch, and it’s come with big changes in important systems. A lot of these changes were made thanks to the feedback we got from all the capybaras in our community, and we can’t stress enough how helpful it was to have these reports and suggestions guiding our development. Thank you all so much for all the support, Capy-friends!

We want to keep hearing our playerbase’s opinions, so please keep sending us messages and reporting any bugs you find through our feedback menu - to recap, just press F8 at any moment during play!

Once again, we'd like to thank you all for playing our capybara game and giving us such valuable feedback! 🐾🍃

Update Sneak Peek!

Greetings, Capy-friends ! 🐾🎉

This is our first update post in the new year, and we hope that you all had an amazing time during the holidays! We wanted to let you all know what we’ve been working on and what you can expect from the upcoming patch in February!

We want to thank you all for the feedback you’ve sent us through the F8 menu in game, on Discord, and through Steam Discussions! We have been reading each and every report we receive and doing our best to review all the bug reports, feedback, and suggestions we get.

We will continue to do so going forward, and keep developing Extremely Powerful Capybaras with the feedback we receive from you!

Without further ado, here are the main upcoming changes:

  • Local multiplayer games will be able to be played with one player on a keyboard and others on controllers - meaning 2-player capy-parties will no longer need to have at least 2 controllers to play!
  • The Level Up system is being overhauled based on our Capy-community’s feedback! This overhaul will happen over the next few updates, but you will be able to experience the first important changes very soon!
  • Certain Abilities are being rebalanced based on our Capy-community’s feedback!

The next update will also feature some special temporary changes to the capy-hub for the month of February to celebrate the Lunar New Year! Here’s a sneak peek:

Thank you all so much, and keep telling us your thoughts on EPC!

With much love,
Dev-baras ♥

Year-End Patch & Content Roadmap!

Greetings Capy-friends ! 🐾🎉

We hope you’re all doing well and keeping warm during the holiday season! We have news to share with you: this will be the final update of the year for Extremely Powerful Capybaras as us dev-baras are about to start our holiday season. We are very excited to also share our Content Roadmap with you, which we’ll be working on as we start the new year in January!

Below you can find our changelog to the final update of 2023!

FIXES

  • Fixed an issue that allowed players to select multiple ability boards while using the mouse in Level Up.
  • Fixed a Desync in the Level Up screen that happened if players used mixed inputs (for example, keyboard selection and then mouse selection).
  • Fixed Level Up sorting issues where one player would have no viable options to choose from. Now it should again be guaranteed that every player has at least one viable option during Level Up.
  • Fixed an issue in Shops that was causing stores to have negative prices.
  • We are aware that there have been issues with the keyboard and controller assignment in local multiplayer games, specifically players that want to set up a 2 player game with one keyboard and one controller. We've looked deep into this, but based on what we've seen so far, unfortunately a deeper rework of the controller assignment systems is needed.

To be completely honest with you capys, the team is very tired, and after a very intense year of development, we really need a rest before tackling a big technical challenge like this. Therefore, we decided that we aren't in the best position right now to accomplish this rework, so we're moving it to a January patch. We are really sorry about this, but once we come back refreshed from the holidays, it will be one of our biggest priorities.

ROADMAP

Worry not Capy-friends, we will be diving back in the hot springs in January 2024 with new updates! Here’s our Content Roadmap below if you’d like to know what to expect in 2024!

We would like to thank our Capy-community for all your support! Thank you for every bug report and feedback, for every suggestion and idea you’ve shared with us to make EPC better.

Thank you for being a part of our journey, we promise we will continue doing our best to improve Extremely Powerful Capybaras and make it the best it could be! This is only the beginning for us, and we will continue to do much more going forward! ❤️

PATCH V1.0.4

CHANGES

  • Added a small delay to player's inputs when entering the Level Up screen, in order to avoid abilities being selected automatically if a player pressed an input at the time the Level Up screen popped up.

  • Added a small delay before Skip and Reroll buttons are interactable to avoid missclicks when the Level Up screen pops up.

FIXES

  • Fixed a bug that prevented the "Hold [input] to Confirm" instruction below the Level Up boards to show up.

  • Fixed a bug where you could move your selection in the Treasure Pot's Primary Weapon Level Up screen using the mouse, but not with a controller or keyboard, causing players to be stuck.

  • Fixed a bug where an ability that could not be selected by any player (either if it was already maxed out or the player had no new slots available) would still show up in the Level Up screen.

  • Fixed a bug where typing on the Feedback Menu while on the Level Up screen could end up moving the player's cursor as you could still move your selection with the Feedback Menu open.

  • Fixed a bug where Rodent's Revenge's area size decreased in level 5.

  • Fixed a bug where Victorio Regium and Commodore Crabber could leave the map's bounds while chasing the player.

  • Fixed a bug where Big Boss Basalt could spawn on top of lava.

  • Fixed a bug where Big Boss Basalt wouldn't show his HP bar.

  • Fixed a bug where Big Boss Basalt could get instakilled.

  • Fixed a bug where players except Player 1 couldn't see the attack animations of the Monsterball enemies in River Rat's City and Volcanic Springs.

  • Fixed a bug where the Capyblessing bar would not disappear if you died while a Capyblessing was active.

  • Fixed a bug where players that had a Traning Grounds save wouldn't receive the Potato Battery and Flying Sucuri abilities.

  • Fixed a bug where players could level up beyond the level cap.

  • Fixed a bug where the Credits' Back button wouldn't work with the mouse.

  • Fixed a bug where the "Extremely Powerful" experience bar would not deactivate for the players after leaving a run.

  • Fixed a bug where Treasure Pots and Capyblessings could spawn on top of lava.

  • Fixed a bug where enemies could get pushed by the camera, being unable to move past the arena bounds.

  • Fixed a bug where enemies would stop spawning.

  • Fixed a bug where players that had a Training Grounds save could upgrade their Laser Lamp beyond Rank III, which could break the Upgrade Shop interface and make boards disappear on the Level Up screen whenever the Laser Lamp should have been sorted. This is a bug that was reported by our community and we have tried to reproduce it extensively. We hope this patch fixes your issues. If you still encounter any issues with over upgrading abilities, please let us know.

We'll keep working hard to fix the other issues you've been reporting, especially those related to the Level Up system. Once again, we'd like to thank you all for playing our capybara game and giving us such valuable feedback! 🐾🍃
