Familia 1.3.8 Patch Notes

Thank you for your continued support. Life has been crazy, but I still managed to get a meaningful patch out. Please comment and like this post. :D



Platforms



  • The game was released on Android
  • Game compatible with Steam Deck
  • Updated Mac and Windows versions of the game
  • Familia Act 1 is now free

Menus



  • Updated: Load / Save Menu
  • Updated: Community Menu
  • A fullscreen setting has been added to the game’s options for desktop (for Steamdeck)
  • FPS option added to the options menu
  • All sub-menus have a different background

Controls



  • All UI is now compatible with the Touchscreen, Gamepad, and Keyboard
  • Added: Swipe gestures for specific menus
  • Onscreen joystick and buttons, visible when players are touching the screen and hidden otherwise
  • Analog movement added, compatible with the gamepad and touchscreen
  • Characters on the screen will walk or run depending on the analog input
  • Character movement speed affects movement animation speed

Optimization



  1. Decreased install size by roughly half
  2. New camera and zoom effects on most maps

Content Changes



  • Updated tutorial intro battle
  • Updated airship cutscene
  • Updater Slitherdice cutscene
  • Characters are no longer smiling when gaining exp after the grave scene
  • Updated upstairs map for the main character's home
  • Due to overwhelming requests, I removed the RPG maker knock-knock noise from the game.
  • Endgame: Glen is no longer found in random encounters. Now he’s on the world map providing specific requirements are met.

Combat



  1. Timed and Mashed attacks were added to combat
  2. Shogun and Muffins deal significantly higher damage at high levels
  3. Multiple new abilities were added for Muffins
  4. Achievements
  5. Confirmation that all Steam achievements currently work and are active in the game (please let me know if you find otherwise)

DON'T BUY FAMILIA ACT 2. IT'S NOT READY.

I cannot revert the game to unreleased without direct Steam intervention. I initially tried to release a free playable demo and accidentally added a new DLC instead. I'm very sorry. Please do not purchase the DLC, as it will take years to release. There is no new content unlocked with the DLC for sale.

New Walking Sprite Animations, Maps, and More



Walking Sprite Animations


This last patch was a huge art update. Almost all characters received a high fps walking animation cycle. Previously, characters only had a running cycle and idle. The walk cycles took up most of the hours contributed to the game since the last patch.



Character Walking Sprites Updated



  • Koko

Shogun and Sero's walking sprites have not been updated with a walk cycle.

UI / UX





  • Map view now blurs when using the top menu
  • Autosaved feature removed
The autosave feature was great in theory. It was difficult to implement as a feature without adding optimization issues to the game. Familia may again have an autosave feature in the future, but it will take time to find and create the best solution.

Cutscene / Dialogue



  • The first beach cutscene cleaned up
  • Shifu walks away after the Scoutmaster battle scene
  • Henry's text bubble wasn't showing at Kalbi home
  • Additional Map and Stat Screen upon completion of a reach granting other loot drops

Maps




  • Character shadows have been upgraded
  • The screen no longer flashes when poisoned or taking floor damage; it now uses pixelation
  • Update map version of Sero’s Hut and Outside Sero’s Hut
  • The first floor of Kalbi house updated
  • Many of the zoomed-in map areas now no longer allow running

Achievements



  • ‘Go Outside IRL’ achievement fixed (not tested)
  • Fixed achievement: ‘A dead pirate’

Battle





  • Improved shadows for Reach bosses, making them more fitting with the style of the game
  • Before and during the fight with the Scoutmaster, Wedge and Bicks will no longer speak
  • Increased damage and abilities of Shogun and Muffins at higher levels
  • Fixed bug where characters saw negative experience gain upon achieving master class

UI / UX Upgrades






Huge changes to Familia's user interface on this patch. Many more big UI / UX changes to come. I've also made big changes to the style dialogue and choice menu's are displayed.

Additional UI / UX Updates



  • Removed text cloud icons over NPCs during cutscenes
  • Added community page and exit game button on the main title menu
  • Removed remove to the title when saving game+ games

GAME+ / Endgame



  • Made, many many class and stat fixes
  • Refactored leveling system which will reduce lag when leveling for mastery levels
  • Fixed bug where red Glen’s game+ fight does not show two Glens at the same time
  • Fixed bug where Lono lost levels after fighting glen
  • Increased max mastery point allocations to 1000 per stat
  • Reduced mastery points gained per level to 1 point per level
  • Removed tutorial content from Game+ Intro

Reach



  • Added more snakes to random encounters and snake encounter only room
  • Named reach save point so it displays on saved games
  • Fixed bug where people could use reach translocator during reach transitions
  • Updated dialogue in Reach to fit new UI / UX, Mastery Menu

Map / World



  • Fixed bug where Poki was the wrong size during the burning house scene
  • Increased all character sprite sizes in Kalbi dungeon
  • Retimed autosave timing for more optimized map transitions (hopefully)
  • Fixed bug where the player couldn’t save in Kalbi Refuge
  • Fixed bug where the player didn’t receive the legendary ninja weapon
  • When finishing Keeria's section of the game, you now have an option to confirm you want to proceed

Battles



  • Cleaned up Shogun fight and scene dialogue
  • Mother boss is now just mother in every form (not mother 2,3)
  • Conjurer fight no longer unintentionally changes tint/color pallet
  • Kalbi Summit fight, now randomly will put you against an all new Blood Knight
  • Kalbi summit fight has additional dialogue content and cleaned up player switching
  • Added special battle transition for Abrams, Noway, and reach boss fights
  • Remove the bug where Muffins and ninjas speak at pirate beach fights

Skills / Items



  • Minotaurs and mother’s cave enemies all take increased light damage and reduced shadow damage
  • Added icon to Curse ability
  • Soothing Wave and Soothing Splash can only be used in battle

Achievements



  • Shogun’s pirate kill achievement fixed
  • ‘Go outside IRL’ achievement should be fixed (untested)

  • Fixed additional chests in Reach facility that could continually be looted forever
  • NPC's in Kalbi dungeon no longer refer to Noway with the wrong name
  • Fixed typos in dialogue with Danielle
  • Many spelling mistakes in Reach randomized gear have been fixed

Battles



  • Status effects in fight with mother display correctly
  • Mother's second and third form now display in the correct position on screen
  • New background for fight with mother
  • Shuriken ability now attacks multiple enemies
  • Blood Claw weapon generally works better than before
  • Duel wielding now shows different animation for each hand
  • Weapon traits will be used once on the hand they are used with
  • Master classes were nerfed to compensate for unintentional buff last patch

  • Old saves will no longer break
  • Monk NPC removed from Reach Facility
  • All 60 Steam achievement icons are finished and uploaded
  • Triple set sound glitch with reach weapons fixed
  • Outside of old man's hut removed, now player goes directly to the world map

  • glitch with Mother's Cave, where players do not need to find all notes
  • a glitch in Mother's Cave where the player can get soft locked after entering the final area of the dungeon
  • Steam achievements should work on mac now
  • The three achievements related to hitting level 50 should work now

34 New Achievements + Mac OS Version Update

34 New Achievements

I just finished adding 34 new achievements to Familia Act 1. The game now has a total of 60 achievements. Some of these achievements are so difficult that I don't think anyone will ever finish them.

Mac OS Update


It has been years since I've updated the mac version of my game. It works. I'm not sure if the Steam achievements work but they should. Let me know either way.

Miscellaneous Updates



  • Damage increased for Shuriken and Ki Blast
  • Exp gain has been decreased for the intro tutorial battle
  • Collapse effects have been fixed on all Reach bosses and Super Slitherdice
  • Bug where it didn't show game plus playthrough counter on saves is fixed
  • Optimize equip bug is fixed
  • Added a prompt to return to the title screen when saving a game plus file
  • Transparency issue after defeating Noway's soldiers has been fixed
  • Collision issues in Kalbi Castle and Kalbi Docks have been fixed
  • Removed health bar for the Conjurer on Game+
  • All enemy shadows have been disabled in battle
  • Turn order display fixed for the tutorial fight
  • Added crystal explosion effect after Fire Fiend and Blaze Fiend
  • Due to request, changed the orientation of rest area in Reach Facility
