Platinum Preview: Production Chains & Construction Projects
Are you ready for Platinum? In case you still think, there's not enough to do in Silverrun Forest, the new map coming with the Platinum Expansion and Platinum Edition, check out the new production chains and construction projects!
If you missed our previous news about new gameplay features and machines, you find all the previews in the list below.
Forestry is the focus of Silverrun Forest - although you can use some pre-placed fields or create your own to indulge in some good ol' agriculture. But, if you want to concentrate on the forestry aspect of farming, there's lots to do.
Since you play a farmer, exceptionally involved in the community of Silverrun Forest, you get the opportunity to help the town to live up to its recreational potential. There are boats to build and a rollercoaster to get rolling.
That is also where all this new production chains come into play. Obviously, we extended the core feature we introduced with Farming Simulator 22 by adding new goods to produce. Deliver logs from harvested trees to the paper factory, the wood turner or the barrel factory and many other production plants.
Ready For A Rollercoaster Ride?
Good news: you can ride it! But, you have to finish it first. And this will take some time, as the creation of the rollercoaster is a long-term project, requiring a massive amount of resources that you will have to provide over time.
Depending on your seasonal length settings, it will take several in-game years to complete the rollercoaster construction, as you have to harvest wood and produce a variety of goods step by step. It took even our talented graphic designers multiple seasons to complete it, and they're using cheats to get all those resources and accelerate the process (how else did you think, we produce screenshots and trailers?).
There are eleven steps to complete the construction. When you deliver everything that is required for the current phase of construction, you can't just continue with the delivery for the next construction stage. You have to wait until the construction workers process all the resources and develop the rollercoaster.
That gives you the time to continue logging, produce various goods from wood, or process iron from the mine into metal while playing around with all those exciting new machines included in the expansion. Check out the growing Platinum Fact Sheet Collection! And, once construction is complete, the rollercoaster becomes an asset for steady income.
Get The Boaty Floaty!
There's a boatyard you should visit. Different from the rollercoaster, your work here is never done. You can build boat after boat - and earn money for each one that takes off into the lake. That makes the boatyard an asset to gain intermediate income.
Two stages have to be completed by delivering various resources. A boat is completed rather quickly, it takes a couple of days if you got the resources. Also, if you're wondering - the boats take off after construction only at exactly 2pm - the person in charge of launching the boats into the water seems to prefer to do it after lunch. Don't question it.

More Frames With Intel: Adding XeSS
Intel XeSS (Xe Super Sampling) is an upscaling feature of Intel Arc Alchemist graphics cards. Similar to NVIDIAs DLSS and AMDs FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR), it renders Farming Simulator 22 at a lower resolution and then upscales it using machine learning and dedicated AI hardware of the GPU. The result: improved performance while maintaining high image quality. Find out more about Intel XeSS on Intel.com!

We're coming closer to the launch of the Platinum Expansion for Farming Simulator 22 on November 15th. We're not done looking at new features, that are about to be introduced to the series. Did you miss the latest news? Don't worry, and take some time to catch up:
Today, we want to show you some of the improvements we made in regard to planting and harvesting trees - of course, there are new machines that bring some cool functionality. Check it out!
More than 20,000 trees are already planted in Silverrun forest, our new map, when you arrive. Some of them are new to the game: We're adding more coniferous trees to the existing tree species in Farming Simulator 22.
At the dealership, you find a new, bigger pallet of saplings (240 pieces) that includes the configuration option for the new tree types.
The Ponderosa Pine (Pinus ponderosa) is a rather large pine, native to the mountainous regions of western North America. Not only that, it's the most widely distributed pine species in North America. It's used for building material and firewood.
The Lodgepole Pine (Pinus contorta) is also very common in western North America, especially near the ocean shore. This evergreen conifer is often used in rural areas for log cabins, posts, fences, lumber, and firewood. In some parts of the world, it's also popular for reforestation purposes.
The Sequoia (Sequoioideae), also known as "redwoods", are coniferous trees from a family of trees which includes the largest and tallest on our planet. They're endangered and have been cultivated beyond their native habitats. They are not supposed to be chopped down but a great choice for reforestation.
Planting More Trees Than Ever
There are multiple machines to use for planting and harvesting trees. More than 40 new vehicles and tools are included in the expansion - featuring John Deere, Komatsu, Pfanzelt, Koller, Schwarzmüller, IMPEX and other brands.
If you want more details about the individual machines, take a look at our Platinum Fact Sheet Collection! We update it every Friday upon release and add more machines with their specifications. Let's look at planting and harvesting, now.
One of the debutants to the series is Volvo Group that bring machines for planting and harvesting with them: the Volvo EC250DL and its big brother, the Volvo EC380DL. Alongside many other machines, of course. Both of them become machines of choice if you want to plant trees like crazy.
If you're into planting trees, you'll like the Risutec SKB-240, too - allowing you to plant no less than 240 saplings in one go in combination with the above-mentioned Volvo machines.
You have to buy the big pallet of saplings that includes the new tree species shown above to fill the tool. Also, it does look cool, doesn't it?
Time To Harvest Some Trees
Let's continue with the new harvesting equipment and take a look at some of the new machines in the category. While the Volvo EC250DL allows you to attach a processor head, the Koller P60, to lop off branches and cut the tree into logs, the EC380DL can be combined with a high-performance harvester head.
Among many other configurations and attachments, you can also attach a feller buncher to both of them, to harvest and transport multiple logs at once. On top of all those fun playthings, we added some new functionality, too.
See, how flexible the movement of the harvester head is? To make the control of harvester heads a bit more agile, you can now tilt the head of your harvester to not only cut trees but grab them from the ground.
Grabbing a tree automatically is also easier now. A yellow ring appears around the tree stump in immediate proximity, so you always know which tree you are currently aiming at in the dense woods of Silverrun Forest. As soon as it turns green, the harvester is ready for action.
If you want to grab more than one tree - you can. With the John Deere Feller Buncher 843L-II + the FD55 disc saw felling head. Take a look at that beast:

Platinum Preview: Log Transport feat. Yarders, Winches & Containers
One of the many reasons why forestry is such fun is the logistics. With the upcoming Platinum Expansion for Farming Simulator 22, forestry and the options for transporting logs are getting an upgrade. Let's take a look at the means of transportation when playing in the woods of Silverrun Forest.
Moving long logs of chopped-down trees through the forest and maneuvering them between other trees can be a hassle. That's where winches come into play. They exist in two forms: as attachments for your regular tractors or so-called multipurpose tractors like the Pfanzelt Pm Trac - a specialized form of tractor that is ready to go when you need to move logs.
Forestry winches are contraptions designed to pull heavy logs with the use of wire ropes. In Farming Simulator 22, you simply attach the rope of your chosen winch to one or multiple logs and pull them with your vehicle to a more spacious collection point.
Up to ten logs can be dragged across the forest with some winches, as two logs can be inserted into the implement directly. But beware, that only works with long and heavy logs, and driving too fast may result in losing them on your way.
Good thing, the Pfanzelt Felix and Pm Trac come with a clam bunk. So you can pick them up again in case you lost them on your way.
Bypass Rough Terrain With Yarders
Yarders are a fun piece of logging equipment. With the Platinum Expansion, we introduce two different kinds of yarders: the Koller K-300-T and the Koller K 307c-H.
They are used to bypass hilly or otherwise impassable terrain and transport logs out of the dense woods by using a system of cables to pull logs from their stump to a collection point.
In Silverrun Forest, you find some paths that may lead you to places that can serve as said collection points (or you just create your own where you want it). You can move logs via yarders up or downhill.
The Koller K-300-T can only drag your logs upwards over a span of 500 meters (1,650 ft) - the collection point must be above the area where you harvest. The Koller K 307c-H is more flexible and can move both ways. It also spans 840 meters (2750 ft).
Place the yarder at your chosen collection point and grab a rope from the implement. With the rope "in hand", you move to the location in the forest, where you want to harvest trees.
Find a sturdy tree to attach the rope to. If you aim at a suitable tree, it is indicated that you can attach the other end of the rope to it. Now, you have a straight line of rope that spans between the collection point and the harvesting area.
Now you can see the carriage appearing that you connect to cut logs. You can send the carriage on its way or make it follow you, so it's always right behind you.
Attach a cut log from the harvesting area to the carriage by grabbing a rope.
If attached, you can send the carriage on its way - or make it follow you if you're on your way to the collection point anyway.
Yay, containers! To ship your carefully harvested logs in high quantities, you can now use shipping containers. Use them to transport and sell them. They come in three different sizes: 12 meters (40 ft), 9 meters (30 ft) and 6 meters (20 ft) long.
Using an excavator like the Volvo EC250DL, EC380DL or other heavy machinery, you load them up by lifting the logs and driving them to the opened side of the container.
Make sure, they fit the size of the container. The length of the logs should be as close as possible to the length of the container. Too long, they won't fit. Too short, you will gain less money. So, don't you waste that precious space in those containers!
Using a wheel loader like the Volvo L180H with a pallet fork attachment, you can unload the shipping containers in the designated area of a factory or load them onto the train to sell them.
The Platinum Expansion and Platinum Edition (base game + expansion) release on November 15th for PC, Mac, PlayStation®5 (PS5™), Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation®4 and Xbox One.

Remember when we introduced field stones to Farming Simulator 22? Turns out, those rocky little rascals on your fields were only the harbingers of an even bigger fiend - lurking in the woods, waiting to be defeated by you and your epic machinery.
With the Platinum Expansion (release on November 15th), you will bump into boulders here and there when exploring the woods of Silverrun Forest, our all-new map.
Don't worry, they're not too common, and we'll give you the tools to stand up to them. You'll probably spot some of them when marking trees with spray cans to instruct your friends.
Rocks & Flags in Silverrun Forest
When bringing more than 30 new machines included in the Platinum Expansion to the forest, those big rocks may block your path. If you want to plant trees in a certain location or want to turn an area into a field for agricultural operations, you have to get rid of them.
The solution: a hydraulic crusher (or breaker)! We're not talking about the oddly satisfying trend of crushing stuff with a hydraulic press, though. No, we're talking about the Paladin SFB 750 from the "StrikeForce family of tools", as the manufacturer of hydraulic tools and attachments describes this powerful instrument.
So, if your chosen worksite needs to get cleared from rocks, the Paladin tool will do the job - it's satisfying, too. FYI: When taking on specific contracts by your neighbors in Silverrun Forest, the rocks you are assigned to get rid of are marked with a tiny flag, so you can spot them. That is one of multiple new forestry missions we introduce with the expansion.
Let's Crush It!
Take a skid-steer loader of your choosing (find out more about loading machines) and attach the Paladin SFB 750! You attach the hydraulic crusher like any other attachment tool. That's it - you're now ready to crush it, baby.
Move to the rock in your path and activate the tool by unfolding it. Aim it at the rock and move the arm of your skid-steer loader into the rock until it vanishes bit by bit.
They're Pebbles Now
Well - now, we got a pile of pebble-like stones, and we need to move it. Using a shovel, you can load it into a trailer and sell it at the stone crusher, earning you some additional money.
This is the perfect opportunity to make use of the Volvo-BM LM 841 wheel loader in combination with a shovel attachment tool.
If you want to extend your copy of the game with loads of new content, check out the Season Pass! Especially, since you save money compared to buying the packs and the upcoming Platinum expansion separately.
Shake your spray cans and go to the forest! We're looking at the new tree marking system introduced with the Platinum Expansion for Farming Simulator 22. Since we're not far away from the release of our heavy expansion on November 15th, we'll take a closer look at some features over the course of the following weeks.
Spray cans in various colors allow you to mark trees with a set of signs, so you and your friends know what to do. Let's take a look at the colors and symbols and what they mean.
In deadwood missions, a new type of contract coming with the Platinum Expansion, trees supposed to be removed, are already marked. Fell only the marked trees - otherwise, you get a penalty for removing healthy trees!
Please note: Since the meaning of tree markings is not universal and differs internationally, you might disagree with the use of colors and signs described here. That's okay - since you can use the colors and symbols as you see fit. If you want to use them in accordance with the local preferences in your neck of the woods, you can look them up by searching the internet with queries based on your location.
Tree Marking Spray
At the virtual dealership, you find spray cans in different colors. Gameplay-wise, you can use any color. Choose your favorite, if you want. In reality, though, they're usually associated with specific actions or purposes after felling the tree.
Red or white is used in many regions when it comes to harvesting timber, forwarding within the forest and selling harvested logs. Blue or orange on the other hand are often traffic-related or used to mark logs that are to be destined for firewood.
Buy spray cans at the dealership in the "tools" section. You find various colors of tree marking spray in its own category. You equip it just like the chainsaw, either pressing the assigned key to swap inventory items or use the mouse wheel. You can switch the signs by pressing the respectively assigned keys, point at the tree and press the button to apply the chosen symbol.
Tree Marking Signs
Logging trail: Marking trees with two horizontal, parallel lines indicates that you are on a trail where machines move to the actual logging location.
Remove tree: Trees marked with the "backslash" are supposed to be removed.
Support tree: Trees marked with the circle are not supposed to be chopped down, but supported. Meaning, leave him (and his friends) alone, or plant new trees in the vicinity.
Saw off at this height is indicated by a horizontal line with an arrow facing down.
Deadwood is indicated with an exclamation mark. You will see this when taking on deadwood missions. They are to be removed.
X can have various meanings. Often, it just marks trees should be removed for whatever reason. Feel free to assign any meaning to this mark.
As mentioned above, a lot of symbols are not universally recognized, but their meaning differs internationally. Neither colors nor symbols follow a strict code, but are merely local or a forest ranger's personal preferences.
While the "X" often just means "this tree is marked to be removed" for whatever reason, in some parts of the world it is only applied to hazardous trees (deadwood) that pose a threat to nearby trees. Or it means whatever the forest ranger says it means. If you're new to forestry, you can work with the signs and meanings in the graphic above, or use them just like you prefer.
