Dev Update March 2025: Game Setup, Fate Challenges, Improved Buildings,....

Since October we`ve been working hard and are proud to present our progress.

New Game Setup Menu & Meta Progression



When starting a new game, you now have the opportunity to specify your game setup.

On which island do you want to play?
Which enemy gods do you want to go up against?
How difficult should it be and what should your start progress look like?

Specials: If you want to go crazy, choose a special game setup.

Normal mortals do not fly high enough when you hit them? Smash them into space with our “Lunar Gravity”.

You want to start a zombie apocalypse? Go for it with the “Night of the living dead” special.

Or do you want to have an advanced start with a lot of villages or fully build cities? Then start with the “Advanced Villages” or “Cities” special.

But not all options are available from the beginning and you need to unlock these due to several challenges!




Intro Cutscene & Fate Challenges



Each Free Play will start with a great intro cutscene introducing your creators: The Fates.

They will not only guide you and tell you more about the world. From time to time they will reach out and will give you the opportunity to choose between 3 challenges.

So you can choose your fate!







Once a challenge is fulfilled the corresponding Fate blesses you and increases your already growing powers!


Voice Over



Yes, that’s right! The intro cutscene and the Imp (the whole tutorial!) are talking!


Quests and Rewards



All of our islands are now filled with exploration spots. Fly around the island and visit them. In some cases you find interesting quests, in others you will earn a reward for exploring.






Improved Buildings



We enhanced our village building assets to give a better look. Here are beauty shots from three of them.

And these are just a few out of 11 village buildings we have improved.


Animation Variation



Along with the improved building assets, buildings are now bustling and there are a variety of animations. For example, you can now see people drinking, trading, dancing, or sleeping at the tavern. Take a closer look at each building and you will see many different things going on!




Advanced Demolition System



With our newly added decal and the deformation, the meteor strike looks even more devastating. Each building can be deformed in a very realistic and/or funny way!

This can also be done with the Godly Fist!





Afterwards the mortals rush to the building and try to repair it.




Wonder Load Icon



Often it was not obvious how powerful your wonder was when you held the mouse for longer. This has now changed with our wonder load icon. You are now able to see exactly which wonder level you execute the longer you hold it.




Mortal Motivation



Are your mortals lazy or do they lack motivation? Spread fear, punish one mortal and others will be motivated as they fear to be punished, too! So it is even better now to be evil!




Steam Rewards



Earn steam rewards by playing Fata Deum. Collect up to 8 trading cards, craft badges, earn background images for your steam account, or unlock emoticons to chat with other gods. Here is a small sample of what you will be able to earn.

We have now stopped developing any new features and focus on polishing and bug fixing to provide you a smooth experience from day one!

Dev Update October 2024: Free Building, Advanced Physics, Mortal Reactions,....

For those of you eager for a god game that offers genuine creative control, this update is exactly what you’ve been asking for. After sharing our demo at Steam NextFest, we took in a lot of your feedback. The key takeaway?

You want more freedom, interaction, and a world that reacts to your influence. We’ve taken your feedback to heart and implemented various substantial changes to give you just that.

So we checked our timetable again, reprioritized, squeezed additional budget out of our great publisher, and went back to work!

And this is what we have delivered:

Free Building


Build the way you want with our new free building system.

You can start building by choosing a building from the shortcut menu and a nice location. Hold the left mouse button to rotate the building.

Does your desired building already exist? Then, you can drag and drop the building!

The road is created automatically, so you do not have to bother yourself with such micromanagement stuff if you do not want to!




Advanced Physics



We further advanced the physics of the game. You can now damage resources to get throwable items. These items can be used to damage buildings or crush mortals. The choice is up to you. If your throw is good enough, you may achieve both.

But you can also collect the resource nuggets and send them as a gift (boring!).




Is your village missing some trees, or does a tree just bother you? No worries. Grab the tree, look for another place that suits him, and place him there. The mortals will be happy!




Advanced Mortal Reaction System



You are a god. Everything you do influences the world. And so does the reaction of the mortals. Do something good, and they will cheer. Do something bad, and they will be scared.






Cutscene



The narrative of Fata Deum will be told via special cutscenes and in-game quest scenes.

Quests



A first round of quests is now implemented. As we continue developing, more quests will enter the game. There will be many ways to accomplish a quest. And for those who don't care about them, no worries, you can mostly ignore them, too.







Tutorial Manager



We have received a lot of feedback from you regarding the tutorial. Some of you wanted to start playing immediately without it; others had the problem that they sometimes missed or skipped it while playing.

So, we redesigned the tutorial flow to let you decide how and when to proceed.

With every new ability you learn, you will be asked if you want to do a tutorial or not instead of just pushing you to do it. Furthermore, we added three new tutorial buttons: “Pause”; “Skip”; “Go Back”. You can use these to watch the last sentence again, pause, or skip the tutorial.



Pressing the Imp will open our new tutorial menu. All tutorials in the game are displayed here as soon as you have unlocked them. You now have the freedom to do tutorials whenever you like!




Release Date



OK, this was a lot, wasn’t it? :)

And it was worth the effort!

But yes, it takes time..

We want to give you the best experience on day one. Therefore, we will push the release window to 2025 to implement your great feedback and ensure the game is polished.

Dev Update May 2024: Physics, Wonder Reactions, UI.

Greetings, Divine Ones!


Since April, we’ve been working hard and are proud to present our progress.

Physics


A big thing we added that you guys were waiting for is physics. With it, 2 new abilities made it into the game: grabbing and throwing mortals. Furthermore, the epic wonder Godly Fist allows you to really punish your mortals! With these skills, you can have fun playing with mortals or penalize them when they don't believe in you.

With the grab, you can take a mortal and place him in another building to shift his work focus.



A mortal does not believe in you or just converted to an enemy god? Punish him! Show what you're made of and punch him across the map!



Punching is too brutal for you, but you still want to eliminate the non-believing mortal? No problem, grab a mortal and throw him out of town.



Which one do you prefer?



Wonder Reactions


In Fata Deum, every wonder you execute should feel unique, therefore, we added animations for each wonder you can execute. Whether you choose to Inspire or Oppress, the mortal reaction will always differ.





Constitution Wonder


Two new wonders made it into the game. You feel like your mortals are too weak? Give them strength and let them build some muscles with “Increase Fitness”. If you don't like muscle, you may want to “Increase Comfiness” on your mortals. Now they will be able to empty your bar with ease.





Exploration Spots


12 all-new exploration spots found their way into the game. Will you be able to find every one of them?




UI


Which mortal believes in which god? In the past, this was an issue we still wanted to solve. This is now gone with the new believer UI. Take a look:



Move the mouse pointer over a mortal or select the miracle "Spread love" from the quick menu, and you will see an outline in the color of the gods the mortal believes in.

Furthermore, we worked on the selection UI. We rearranged the icons and simplified the overall look.




Lastly, we made some changes to the settlement UI.




Steam Next Fest


We are happy to share that we will participate in the Steam Next Fest from 10.06.2024 to 17.06.2024. Our new island with 2 enemy gods awaits you. Will you be able to conquer it?

Fata Deum Development Update - April 2024

Skill Tree, Narrative Design & Mythical Locations



Since November, we’ve been working hard and are proud to present our progress. Here is a quick summary:

Tutorial & Skill Tree



Our main focus in the last months has been implementing your tutorial feedback.

We slimmed down the dialogues and adjusted the pacing. Relevant things will only be explained when they matter. At the same time, the tutorial has new content and is more polished than ever. All this could be accomplished with the help of our new skill system.

A new skill system? Yes, you heard right. As a part of the tutorial improvement, we implemented a skill tree as a new gameplay feature. You will have much more freedom of what you want to skill/learn and how you would like to develop yourself as a god.

A new level-up allows you to upgrade a Wonder or Manipulation. The Imp will then shortly introduce you to your newly chosen ability.


The more you level up, the more skills you can learn. All skills have multiple levels, which can make them even more powerful.

We also reworked the player skill UI to be more clearly arranged and readable. Here, you can see all of your already unlocked skills and their effects.


Narrative Design & Mythical Locations



Our narrative team started working on story-driven quests to provide even more things to explore and experience on each island.

Since then, some strange things appeared. What mysteries could they hold?




AI Improvements


We kept working on our AI system. It can now manage cities, including resource chains, building monuments, and upgrading equipment in neighboring villages. Furthermore, it has learned new actions like building outposts and summoning fireworks.


A new type of prayer that appears less frequently gives more Prayer Points but is also more difficult to fulfill. Above all, it leaves more choices about how it is fulfilled, as it simply requires that certain properties fulfill a certain value.


Improved Fire Effect



We improved the fire effect to be even more satisfying. Take a look!


Enhanced Sound



Prick up your ears. We reworked the sounds to bring you a more immersive experience. We added sound to the UI elements and switched sounds on Demons, Farming, Villages, and Cities to better suit the game. In addition, volume levels have been adjusted, and slight effects such as reverberation have been added for a more harmonious image.

Next Steps



  • New Wonders will find their way to Fata Deum.
  • We are currently working to get physics running.
  • We will expand the main story of Fata Deum and implement side quests.
  • We will further polish and balance the game for the best experience.

November 2023 Update: Gameplay Features, UI Changes, AI, New Map, and more!

Since July, we’ve been working hard and are proud to present our progress as we head towards the end of the year. Here is a quick summary:

  • Two new gameplay features
  • A choosable AI difficulty and further AI improvements
  • More UI improvements
  • A first look at our newest and biggest level created, with up to five gods
  • Improved performance

Gameplay Features


Based on your feedback we implemented a highly requested feature – a mortal collecting system. You can now grab any mortal you want, drag them around, and assign him to a new task just by dropping them in place!


Show off your godly strength by using the new ring selection. It gives you the ability to use wonders in a wide circular range. Everything within the circle – whether mortal or building – will be influenced by your wonder.


UI Changes


We have reworked the overview maps of the islands. Wonder how they look now? Take a look!

Up until now, collecting resources has been confusing for many of you. We fixed that by adding new UI icons so you always know how many resources you have collected and where you can drop them.



AI Improvements


We kept on working on our AI system. First, we implemented difficulty levels so you can now choose between three options: Easy, Medium, and Hard.

Furthermore, the AI is now smarter than ever. Every god acts with foresight, builds up their conquered villages, connects trading routes, and follows their own strategies. If you do not watch your villages and villagers, your godly status will be in great danger!

New Map


Take a look at our largest Island yet that can handle six gods at once – Will you be able to compete here against five other opponents?







You know, this might be a nice place for a holiday too!




Performance


We’ve continued to work on the performance of the game. Below, you can see our result: 900 big city buildings together with 10,000 small city buildings rendered above 100 FPS in the Unity editor. Not so long ago, this was impossible!



At the same time, we reduced the loading time significantly so you can jump quickly into the game. Memory usage has been reduced significantly, too. This is very important for all gamers without high-end hardware and will be noticeable right away, especially in end-game situations.

Improved Vegetation


We polished the Vegetation of the Gods and implemented new assets to make everything look cool.

Violence now looks more dangerous than ever.



Deceit`s lands at night. It may look cool, but where these mushrooms are, zombies aren't far away.



What beautiful flora! This must be Fertility’s domain.

New Demon Animation


Look at these new Demon fighting animations. Will they be enough to crush your enemies?



Next Steps


We’re on track for our new target of releasing next year, and one of our first priorities will be on a new demo to showcase all the improvements we’ve made this year. Specifically:

  • The already teased map from our last development update will await you! On this map, you can play against two other gods and conquer up to 18 villages and cities.
  • Longer playtime per session.
  • An improved tutorial to give players a better introduction to the game.
  • Better controls – from the camera, to collecting resources, keybindings, and more!
  • Improved AI opponents.
  • Enhanced performance all round.
