Faulty Apprentice

Map to Stars Reach Episode 7

Even though the trees were too thick to see through, the sound of beautiful singing slips through like a fish through water. To say the voice was easy on the ears would be an understatement. The voice was soft, elegant, and alluring. Even though the Apprentices couldn't understand the words of the song, the Apprentices couldn't get enough of it. Pushing through foliage, and pushing through fatigue, the Apprentices pushed forward in search of the source of this mystery. At lease until the music stopped...

The breeze was still blowing, and the birds were still chirping, but the song was indeed no more. Suspecting they were getting close, the Apprentices decided to tread softly. Creeping, sneaking and snooping along, they moved as silently as possible towards the last known source of the serenade. Then peering through the pines into an open clearing, the Apprentices spied a sight they had never seen outside the scroll-books.

Flowing silver hair, bronze skin, and features far too shapely to be human. This woman could only be... an Elf! Everyone has heard of that Elves used to be very common around Thaelyn, but ever since the war between Light and Dark, they have disappeared. Some say they were all destroyed, some say they returned to their homeland, but the truth is no one really knows. Well, maybe someone knows, but certainly no one in this humble group of Apprentices. Except maybe that guy.

Distracted by thoughts of fantasy folklore and the sight of such an elegant Elf, the Apprentices didn't notice that there was an old man wearing dirty rags for robes beside them. Not only that, but he appeared to be spying on the unsuspecting maiden!

Dirty Old Man: "Yes, now, the other legging--"

Dirty Old Man: "By my beard! What are you lads doing here!? I thought you'd be-- Hold on, yes... if you're here now, then that means."

The bearded old man opens one of his many scroll-books and begins flipping pages rapidly till he apparently comes to the one he was looking for.

Dirty Old Man: "This could be a disaster! If she catches me spying on her way out here, it could ruin everything. Sorry lads, but I'll need you to take the fall for this one. Just bob and weave and you will all be fine... probably. Farewell!"

With a sudden pop of light and smoke, the old man in odd clothing disappeared before the Apprentices' eyes. While it was amazing to see a magic spell for the first time, there was no time to enjoy it, for the Elven enchantress had become aware of their presence.

Elven Archer: "What was that? Is-is someone there? Hey! Who are you! And you, and you! What are all you boys doing out here?"

With their presence suddenly discovered, the old man's disappearance, and the jig seeming to be up, the Apprentices just stood there like a deer in the lantern light. A few of them pointed at each other, a few said words like "the old man" or "we were lost", or "your singing". But in the end, the Elf girl had her own idea of what was going on. And she wasn't afraid to let the Apprentices know.

Elven Archer: "You were spying on me, weren't you!? Gods, why are boys such perverts! I'll skewer you alive you- you DIRTYROTTENIMMATUREPERVERTMANPIGS!!"

With the Elf's rambling of rage, she draws her bow and begins firing a flurry of arrows at the Apprentices! Having no choice but to flee in terror, lest they be "skewered alive," the young men fled into the forest bobbing and weaving as the old man advised them.

After an hour of running for their lives, the party of alleged perverts makes it out of their frightening forest experience. And aside from several scrapes, scratches, and bruises, they were relatively unharmed.

Feeling safe for the moment, the Apprentices decide to inspect their surroundings. Seeming to be at the base of a mountain with a tunnel carved into the stone, the party sees two options before them. They can take shelter inside the tunnel, or climb the mountain to get a better view of the area.

What will the Apprentices choose?

Map to Stars Reach Episode 6

Deciding the Rope Ladder was the better course, the Apprentices make their ascent. Climbing upward and upward, the smell of flowers and foliage becomes more present. Even dried leaves occasionally fall down from the opening above giving the Apprentices hope they will make it out of that filthy, fart-smelling, and forsaken Goblin Town. So upon reaching the top, the sensation of fresh air on their skin and sun on their faces felt absolutely wonderful. Almost as wonderful as the singing voice that cam wafting through the forest.

Speaking of trees, looking back at the ladder's exit, the Apprentices see they were let out of some sort of oaken orifice. The wooden stump was so old and misshapen, it seemed to have a face on its front like a jack-o-lantern. Whether the face had grown that way naturally or perhaps carved long ago, it was undiscernable.

Temporarily distracted by the odd-shaped oak, the beautiful singing voice once again made its way into the Apprentice's ears. Looking up, down and all around to find the source of the noise, they discovered something quite the opposite.

Pines crack and moan as they lean from the oncoming wind. Dirt and leaves come flying at the Apprentices forcing them to shield their eyes from the rushing debris. Then quick as a flash but black as night, a giant winged shadow passes overhead. Icy chills run down the Apprentice's spines and an even colder mist falls over the forest. As a frozen silence settles over the scenery, the serenade of song once again picks up and floats into the air.

With thick trees all around and no navigator, the Apprentices seemingly have only two options on which way they should go...

Will they follow the soft singing voice or the swift and silent shadow?

Mysterious Rogue: "You are really listening to that Goblin's lies? Suit yourself. I smell trouble coming so I'm out of here. Later nerds!"

Quick as a cat and silent as a snake, the mysterious Rogue picks the Cell Door lock and races off into the dark hallway.

Chicken Thief: "Don't you-sa listen to dat Rogue, you-sa make wise-good descision sticking with me-sa. By the way, me-sa name Chicken Thief. Me-sa big important Goblin so we-sa not have to wait much longer. Me-sa friends coming to break me out quick-fast."

While the words "friends coming to break me out" gave the Apprentices a bad feeling, what they heard next gave them a worse one... Suddenly a loud explosion rocks the fortress as shouts of terror and pain cry out. After what you guess was a short battle the sounds of marching echoes down the stairs.

Thats when you realized, you were tricked...

With only Chicken Thief's laughs for a warning, a swarm of goblin's raid the prison cell throwing each and every Apprentice into a dirty burlap sack. One Apprentice manages to confront the Goblin Prisoner before being abducted, exclaiming "But we took you at your word! You pinky-promised us!"

Chicken Thief: "Dumb-dumb man-boys. Don't you-sa have eyeballs? Goblin's don't have pinkies! But we-sa do haves middle fingers!!"

The Goblin betrayer dances around shoving his rude hand gesture at each Apprentice filled sac as it is carried off. However before the Apprentices could shout curses in return, they were beaten repeatedly until everything went black...

After an indiscriminate amount of time, you are awoken to the sound of gruff and grizzled voices arguing with one another.

Young Orc: "You always get invited to parties, Bilgorg! Let me bring Apprentices to King Grundle. It's my turn."

Bilgorg: "You get invited when you earn invitation! It was my idea to raid Fort Isaac while soldiers were away, so me gets prize."

Young Orc: "But it was me that picked which Goblins to be in raid! I deserve chance to impress King Grundle!"

Bilgorg: "Shut your pie-hole or I'll shut it for you!"

Young Orc: "You think I'm afraid of you cause you won a fights in the ring? Let me show you how we fight in the streets!"

Goblins: "Oooooo!! Fight! Fight! Fight! Fight!"

With the goblins rushing to surround the two orcs, the Apprentices find themselves completely unrestrained and unguarded. Taking advantage of the opportunity, they all sneakily step out and make their way through the maze of goblin tunnels.

After hours of dodging search parties and looking for an exit, the Apprentices come to a fork in the path. One direction leads into a stone tunnel obviously not made by goblins, and the other is a rope ladder leading upwards that smells like flowers.

What will they choose: The Rope Ladder or the Stone Tunnel?

Map to Stars Reach Episode 4

Brea: "YYEEEEEAAAAAHHHH!!! Let's DRIIINK!!"

While a few Apprentices accepted the Alchemist's fun-filled fungi experiment, the rest began drinking... a lot. The Apprentices, Brea, and Hilde were drinking so much ale, the tavern keep had to crack open a new barrel, and then one more! Eventually Mavie the Traveling Merchant joined in the fun, even though she was a bit of a lightweight. However, it was all fun and games until someone shouted out, "there's a naked lady outside!"

At the announcement of an alleged unclothed woman, the entire drunken rabble of to would-be warriors shoved their way out the front door, knocking over everything and everyone in their way. Like the wildebeests of the Great Grass Sea, a sudden stampede of Apprentices flooded the streets of the benign town of Brindle. With such a drunk and disorderly crowd crowding the streets, you could probably guess something bad was about to happen. And then it did...

It wasn't the beautiful bare boddess of a woman that met the Apprentices outside, but quite the opposite. A group of armored guards led by the famous Knight of a hundred quests, Sir Quintus himself.

While you would have been starstruck by the sight of such a renowned hero, you were moon-struck by seeing him holding one of your fellow apprentices stark naked.

Sir Quintus: "You think streaking through the streets is funny? Since you lot are all companions of this one, you boys are going to spend some time in the Fort Isaac cells till you can learn to control yourselves."

Forcefully shoved into a meat wagon and carted off. The last thing you see before blacking out due to an overconsumption of ale is Brea, Mavie, Hilde, and Janessa's sad faces blowing you kisses goodbye.

After an indeterminate amount of time, the Apprentices wake up in a dingy, dark and damp cell with an enormous hangover. A few remarks of, "my head hurts" and "I'm going to throw up" later, the Apprentices sober up enough to begin inspecting the cell.

Aside from a few rags and some buckets that have been used in a way I will not go into about, the Apprentices find a pathetic looking goblin sitting in one of the corners. Even though the Goblin remains silent with an obvious expression of, "what do you want?" on his face, the silence did not remain. Sneaky, suspicious and slightly snarky, a whisper escapes from another corner of the jail cell...

Mysterious Rogue: "You boy's looking for a way out? Well it just so happens I'm a Rogue and breaking out of Jail cells is my specialty. I'm supposed to meet someone at Stars Reach. What do you say we help each other? I'll help you out of this cell and you help me get into the castle?"

Goblin: "It-sa trap! Don't you-sa listen to dat person. Dat cat will only gets you-sa into more trouble if you-sa try to escape. Guards say they-sa going to release us soon if we-sa wait. They-sa said that, they did."

Mysterious Rogue: "Ha! Are you really going to trust a goblin to his word? I heard the Guards talking about you, Apprentices. They're jealous you were hanging out with the Stars Reach girls. Let's get out of here before they make up another charge to keep you in here for longer."

Goblin: "No! We-sa should wait here. Me-sa pinky promise me-sa telling da truths."

With both voices seemingly untrustworthy, the Apprentices are met with a difficult decision on whom to listen to...

Mavie: "Hop on folks! I know you're all trying to get to the castle, but I need to drop off some goods over at Brindle first. Hope you don't mind!"

As you, Mavie and Hilde make your way north, the forest and foliage begin to fester away into funky-looking fungi. Even though you were fired for not re-pumping the air tanks during your sea diving apprenticeship, you can help think of the shapes of coral you saw underwater. Massive trees are eventually replaced with mushrooms stretching into the clear sky above, only to block out the sun with their giant caps. What looked at first like falling snow appears to be spores that seem to float endlessly without care for gravity.

Hilde: "This place sure is pretty, ain't it, sugar? Reminds me of some kind of wonderland fairy tale from them scroll-books."

As the pollinated path winds back and forth, and then back and forth again, you find yourself grateful for your perky protectors. Not because you feel threatened by the treacherous terrain or some unseen terror, but for the simple sake of navigation. It was for only being able to see a few feet ahead due to a fog of fungous cumulous that has made it nearly impossible to get any sense of direction. However, despite your lack of longitude, you eventually come to a small town.

Tall walls of luminous yellow limestone surround mushroom caps sprouting from within like foam in a glass of Oktober ale. And that makes you thirsty...

Mavie: "Here we are, folks, the town of Brindle! I have some business to take care of, so why don't you all grab something to eat at the tavern and we can meet up later."

Hilde: "Thanks again for the ride, Mavie! Let's go, sugars. After all that traveling I've worked up quite an appetite."

The second the tavern door opens, you and Hilde are assaulted with shouts of "Chug! Chug! Chug! Chug!" Seeing practically everyone gathered around a single table, you direct your attention there as well. Peering through heads and shoulders, a crack of vision reveals a woman with pink hair and a dwarf with a bushy brown beard each with glasses raised and golden ale pouring into their mouths. However, before you can get a good look at the chugging contestants, the sound of an iron tankard slamming down against hard oak rings, triggering the crowd to go ballistic.

Amidst the chorus raucous, the name "Brea" rings out. And while it meant nothing to you, your companion Hilde must have recognized it because she gives you the look of "I knew the whole time."

Brea: "Yo! Did you see that? That's how you chug a beer! Who are these guys, Hilde? I don't know if I'm drunk or a couple of them especially handsome, but I'm feeling good tonight. Woo!"

Hilde: "These, are the latest recruits to join the War Effort. I'm taking them to Stars Reach. You want to join, along?"

Brea: "If joining means drinking! Then I'll join! You two are too sober for me right now, why don't you have a drink? ...Or two!"

After the armored woman offers you her offer, another beautiful woman splits into the conversation...

Janessa: "Why you look like a fine batch of specimens, don't you? Our name is Janessa and I'm the resident Alchemist of Stars Reach. It's an absolute pleasure to make your acquaintance."

As you raise a tankard of ale to greet the half-elf Alchemist, she suddenly gives you a distasteful look.

Janessa: "You are not going to drink that common swill are you? We think you should eat these."

The strange woman offers you a strange confection... What will you do?

Choice: Eat Mushrooms or Drink Ale

Walking down the wintery path, the number of trees rises as the temperature falls. With the southern path seemingly the superior option, you, Hilde and your friends make your way down the path...

Even though you are marching south, you can't help but feel the temperature is dropping. Your nose turns red, your cheeks turn pink, and your breath turns smokey. Snow begins to trickle down as Hilde begins to trickle her way into your heart.

Hilde: "See that, sugar! That there's my home town, the Bunny Burrow!"

Rolling hills covered in snowy white crystals span the space before a friendly foul welcomes you.

Mavie: "Greetings traveler! I'm Mavie, your faithful Traveling Merchant. Would you like to see my-- Hilde is that you!? Since when did you join the Stars Reach Castle Guard?"

Hilde: "Hey Mavie! No, we ain't lookin for nothin, just passing through on our way to Stars Reach."

Mavie: "Chirp! That's great news! I was just picking up supplies for Stars Reach myself. Which route were you planning to take? There's room on the cart if you want to hitch a ride with me."

Hilde: "That's mighty kind of ya' Mavie, but it's up to the Apprentices. What do ya'll want to do?"

Hilde: "Hey there, sugar plums! My name's Hilde and it's a pleasure to meet ya'll! Commander Angeline sent me to escort you to Stars Reach and make sure you get there safe and sound. Now, don't go underestimating Bunnyfolk. I'm one of the Castle Guards so you can be sure I've been trained with a Sword & Shield and will protect you from anything that may disturb our travel."

Hilde: "The only weird thing about my assignment is our resident Wizard, Durandall-- Oh, you don't know him? Wow, where do I begin? Hmmm... Well, supposedly he's the greatest Magician, but between you and me, I think he's kind of a pervert. Anyways, he said it was important to let you decide the route we take to Stars Reach. I thought that was a little odd, but the Commander told me not to question Durandall, so here we are!"

Hilde: "You see were right here at the crossroads, so our first decision is to go North or South. What do you think we should do?"
