Fiasco Restoration and Repair

Ceasing Development of Fiasco Restoration and Repair

Hello,

Unfortunately I bring sad news today. We regret to announce that we will be halting production of Fiasco Restoration and Repair. Situations have changed and we no longer have the resources to devote to the project. As of right now we have no plans to return to it. We’re very sorry to leave it here but the demo version will remain playable for free.

A big thank you to those of you that followed us along the way!

Developer Stream Broadcast

We're holding a developer stream of the game to promote the last few days of our Kickstarter campaign. Thank you for everyone that participated. If you'd like to contribute the link is below! Send it along to your friends too, it helps us out a lot.

Restoration Competition - Win a game Key

We will be hosting a Restoration Competition on our Discord server! It starts now and will run until the 28th, where the winners will be announced on our live stream at 8PM ET on Steam. To participate in the competition, join our Discord server!

Categories:
There are two categories to participate in: Restoration and Creative. The Restoration category must be a recreation of the Mona Lisa. You have a wide degree of creative liberty but it must vaguely represent the Mona Lisa if you squint really hard. The Creative category can be absolutely anything (within Discord rules).

Submission rules:
Submissions are subject to the same rules as the Discord server. If you’re worried about your submission or have questions, message FM-Alex. You can submit an entry to both categories but different contestants will be selected from each. You can’t win both.

How to submit:
There are channels for each category. Simply hit the screenshot button on the result screen in-game and upload that file to the appropriate channels on Discord.

Prizes:
The development team will be the judges and the winners will have their work added to our screenshots on the storepage as well as posted on our social media.
Additionally, each winner will receive a steam key for the game when it releases!

Please only submit one entry per category. If you would like to revise your entry you may by deleting the old entry and uploading a new one.

We will announce the winners in a livestream on the 28th of November at 8PM ET. The stream will be held on our Steam store page.
Once again, you will need to join the Discord server to upload your submissions!

Hope to see you there!

Development Blog 7/14/22 - More Than Just Paint

Greetings! It's been some time so we wanted to give an update as to what we've been working on. Today we'll be looking specifically at fluids and how they interact with the painting process, but first...

Some News!

We've been working hard on the game and making great progress. We want to release the game for Early Access in just a few months! That may be some time to wait so there will be some things to look forward to leading up till then.

Firstly, we'll be updating the demo before our release to bring it in line with what the game will be like to play. Secondly, we'll be resuming our developer streams closer to release to show off what we have added, talk about our process, and just play the game and have fun. And of course there will be continued updates on all our social media platforms.

We hope you are as excited as we are! If you want to help us out you can wishlist the game on Steam, if you haven't already, and show the game to your friends! Now with that out of the way, on to the rest of the blog!

Painting and Fluids Improvements!

As much as I wanted to break paint and fluids into different sections they are so intertwined at this point that I can't talk about one without mentioning the other. We've overhauled pretty much everything about them from how they are defined to how they are applied. We've completely changed how paint is rendered and generated. Before, each liquid was it's own distinct material which was limiting in what we could do with it beyond changing its color. Now a substance's properties are broken up into several categories that determine how that substance presents and behaves.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀    Left to right: Brown paint, bean juice, axel grease.

The new custom fluid creation system allows us to change how the substance appears. We can have substances that are very shiny, like the axel grease, or matte like normal paint. Reminder that this is all a work in progress and things will still be changing.

Not only does this allow us to make more kinds of liquids that do different things, but it also allows you, the player, to mix entirely different liquids together to get a unique combination of properties. Which brings us to our next topic...

The New Painting Experience

While the new system allows us to change how the substance appears, that isn't all it does. We can also change how the paint behaves. Paints can vary on their viscosity (or how runny they are) and saponacity (or how soap like it is). A paint that is globby will form smaller puddles when poured and be fairly easy to paint with. A runny paint will drip down the canvas, run further across the floor when poured, and be generally much more difficult to use.

And here is a comparison of axel grease before and after our liquid rework.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Look at that shine!

Is this the Final Painting Experience?

NO! Painting is the focal point of our game so we'll constantly be refining and tweaking things. The next goal for painting is to make it more smooth and precise. We've already ironed out some bugs where the brush would paint before reaching the center cursor which made making dots impossible. Next we are looking into making the brush paint in smooth strokes. Currently brushes feel like they skip off the canvas and make dotted lines.

That's it for now! Thank you for reading! Check back here for more blog posts and news or follow us on Twitter for immediate updates!

Update 0.0.1

Update 0.0.1

This update features a lot of quality of life additions and changes. There are also a ton of fixes for a bunch of reported problems. Thank you for all your feedback!

Gameplay

  • Smooth Placement

    • Props will gently glide from your hand to the spot you are placing the object.
    • This also prevents objects from getting stuck in the environment.

  • Brush Stability

    • Improved painting for small brushes including pencils, pens, and markers. No more dotted lines!
    • Improved accuracy on wide brushes (wall brush, duster, and dad's toothbrush).

  • Pouring Improvements

    • Fixed containers not pouring all of their contents. Containers can now be entirely emptied instead of always having just one more drop.

UI Additions and Improvements

  • New Held Item UI

    • Certain items will display their contents so you no longer have to guess how much paint is left on your brush.
    • The indicator also changes color to match the color on the brush.

  • Ultra-wide Support (For real this time!)

    • We swear it works this time! Thank you to the players that reported it.

  • Improved Brush Pointers

    • Brush preview pointers have been scaled to accurately reflect the size of the brush. This way you always know how much paint is going to be slapped on when you click.

Visual Changes

  • Fixed liquid rendering

    • Liquids no longer look as though they are always full or always empty.

  • The whiteboard is now paintable after it is picked up

    • Whiteboard? More like Writeboard. This is Andrew's fault. I swear it's not me.

Fun Bonus Content

  • Pliers can detach objects.

    • No longer is the hammer the only prop that can detach. You now have a second option should you accidentally glue your hammer to Mona Lisa's face. Or just glue them both. You probably will.
    • You can detach more objects than you think!

  • Paintable Posters and Photographs

    • Posters and photographs can now be painted on!
    • Go ahead. Draw a mustache on Indiana Jones.
    • For some reason, we are getting requests to have everything BUT the Mona Lisa be paintable. This brings us a step closer to an entirely paintable reality. We're working on it!

What's Next?

Currently we are working on some changes to make Fiasco physics more stable. We're specifically focusing on containers. We've implemented some minor changes to them already to help smooth the experience but there's more that isn't quite ready yet.

If you'd like to know more about what we're working on, follow us on Twitter or join the Discord! We post a lot of in progress snapshots there. We also stream regularly, 7pm ET on Mondays over on Twitch!

Our Kickstarter is almost over! If you'd like to support our work please consider backing us.

That's all for now! Once again, we'd like to thank all of you for playing the game, giving feedback, and showing support. It means so much to us!

- Team Fowl Machinations

Demo Hotfix

Fiasco Restoration and Repair hotfix Patchnotes

Physics and Stability

  • Fixed an issue causing containers to send objects through the floor.
  • Reduced container hitboxes to prevent objects from clipping into them when held.

Loading and Performance

  • Fixed a bug that caused the game to get stuck on the loading screen (Antonio shouldn't take forever to get Valentine's Day candy).

Controls and Gameplay

  • Some items, such as sprayers, now place themselves a slight distance from their target to make aiming easier.
  • Readjusted the size of brushes to match the actual size of the brush.
  • Pens and pencils no longer mark the canvas from a foot away.
  • Increased the amount of paint brushes can hold.

Paint and Liquid

  • Fixed an issue causing liquids to appear more diluted when mixed.

Misc.

  • Added UI scaling. This should stop buttons from going offscreen when playing in ultrawide resolutions.
  • Changed the color of the ointment to make it more nasty looking. It is now a translucent brownish yellow.
  • Pressing Escape on the end screen no longer causes the camera to orbit around the room.

If you find more issues please be sure to let us know through the in game survey, steam community tab, or our discord server.
