Firefight Reloaded

A statement regarding the development of the ENDGAME Update.

Hi everyone.

I want to address the development of the endgame update by stating what is going on and why it's taking so long to get a release out.

As stated in my last post about this topic, Endgame wasn't being worked on because I was focused on other projects. Alongside that there was a lack of direction on where I personally wanted to go with the project, as there are a couple features outside of the development document that were considered and weren't added to the document. Alongside that, I wasn't following the document closely during the development of this update, which was also a major contributing factor.

The features that weren't planned originally included:

- The implementation of PBR to the Source engine. Currently, the shader is implemented but none of the textures are converted to use the new system.
- A new gore system that allows you to shoot off enemy limbs (and allows enemies to shoot off your limbs) ala Soldier of Fortune or Open Fortress. This system has been mostly implemented for the player, but it hasn't been done yet for the NPC ragdolls.
- A (planned) rebalancing of the weapon sandbox that involves the removal of a few weapons that don't improve on the sandbox and are just there. This is next on the agenda after the gore system implementation.

On top of that, I have been thinking about rebuilding FIREFIGHT RELOADED from the ground up, as I have learned a lot since 2015 and I want to improve the spaghetti code. However, this isn't entirely definite.

As a result, the development hasn't been on track. This means that development may be pushed to 2021, however I am not definite on when it will be ready.

The good news though is that FIREFIGHT RELOADED ENDGAME will be the main focus of development for the rest of 2020, and the next phase of the beta should be out before the end of the year. As for the crash reports, the planned move to a wave based horde mode system (read the design document a few posts back for details) will give me more ways to iron out crashes and polish up the mod as a whole.

I apologise for the long development cycle. I hope that this post addresses some questions about the development.

In the meantime, this is where I get off.

- Bitl.

The Beta Content DLC has been released!

For those who wanted to aquire a time machine and go to the past, the Beta Content DLC is now available for free. This DLC aims to get rid of the "unsupported" beta branch, which 1. Doesn't work with snapshots and 2. Takes up a lot of space as you need the other versions on the mod on storage. This DLC release aims to fix those issues while removing the beta branch and giving users an option to install the content.

No other free DLCs will come out until after ENDGAME's release, where it should be in a much more stable state than right now. Again ALL DLCS WILL BE FREE. This is a free and open source Half-Life 2 mod, not some EA loot crate nonsense.

Possibly the only thing that will be paid for is a planned soundtrack for the mod, but I currently don't know how it will come out so it might be free or paid depending on how original it is and if it uses any Valve game sounds as samples. I will announce what will happen in the future. Soundtracks aren't really considered DLCs anymore so it probably shouldn't count.

If you have a crash report, please refer back to this announcement. Stay tuned for new updates on ENDGAME within the coming months.

FIREFIGHT RELOADED CRASH REPORTING for Endgame

Hello,

As some of you may know, I have restarted FIREFIGHT RELOADED's development. I have decided to make a quick announcement to give people a place to post crashes.

Here's what I expect

- A detailed description of what happened before the crash
- What version you were playing on
- Your computer's specs
- And a crash dump file (if possible but not necessary)

With this information I can properly figure out what is going on and patch it. FIREFIGHT RELOADED's gameplay will be drastically overhauled with this new ENDGAME update (smaller enemy counts is one consideration), so some crashes will be alleviated because of that.

Thank you all for your support.

Notice about FIREFIGHT RELOADED beta content.

Very recently, some of you have noticed that I have removed the "unsupported" beta branch. This is because I am releasing a free optional DLC that includes all the beta content. Having it all available in a separate package reduces bloat and lowers the file size of the mod. You also have the option to disable it by going to the properties for the game and disabling it in the DLC tab.

The DLC should release in a few days.

An update on ENDGAME.

Hello everyone!

Just wanted to wish you all happy holidays and a happy new year. More updates will be posted here and the Steam announcements very very soon. My goal for endgame phase 2 is to revamp the entire gameplay loop of the game, where a proper wave system is added to spawners, simulated bullets, weapon sandbox balances, and more. I wanted to make this more fun, challenging, and enjoyable than previous versions of the mod and make it less of a power fantasy.

I haven't been updating firefight for half of the year due to college and other projects, however im starting to focus on the mod again and, like i annouced earlier, it'll release by the end of 2020. I'm going to release some teasers in the discord server while i do development on the mod, so if you want to experience development in real time, visit the Discord server here:
