gamesweekberlin 2022 - Here I come!
Gamers!
You won't guess. I will probably surprise you now, because... Flooded will be a part of another event! This time, I am happy to announce that my game will be present at the upcoming gamesweekberlin 2022!
So if you're going to Berlin, you're from there, or you're just passing by… Make sure to come to the event, because you'll be able to meet a whole lot of game freaks there and - most importantly - play Flooded!
Do you know what's the worst part of any trip? Packing! It’s always very stressful and just irritating (argh, you always forget something…). So I decided to take a short break and write some words to you.
The last few days have been wonderful! PAX West, which was held in Seattle, has come to an end. The event turned out to be intense, and each day was full of many conversations with gamers.
What’s more - I had an opportunity to present the game to completely new players. I am very happy that I was able to exchange a few words with many of you and thank you so much for the feedback!
Let me tell you something more… Even if sometimes I feel tired of what I do, such events and each high five give me a powerful kick to act. An extra shot of motivation and the best proof that it’s all worth the effort. Seeing you smile when playing my game means the world to me. Thanks!
Meanwhile, I have to go back to packing (damn…), then catch my flight to Poland and I’ll be back home. Thanks to you I have some fresh ideas, so Flooded might surprise you again!
I'm currently in Seattle, USA (at PAX West, of course), but couldn't leave you empty-handed! Throughout the event, you will be able to watch a special video of me playing Flooded!
Psst… I prepared some tips, fun facts, and interesting information, so just enjoy it!
Although recently I've been focused mainly on PAX West and my trip to Seattle (can’t wait to meet you there), that's not the only good news I can share with you this week. The plane can wait because...
I can proudly announce that I have signed a deal with Surefire.Games - a company that will publish and promote Flooded in China! This means many new players will come to face a dangerous flood and other adversities. As if that was not enough, support for the Chinese language will be added to the game soon! 最后!
Surefire.Games is a team that worked on titles such as Cursed Treasure 2, Oaken, War Mongrels, and even on Lumencraft published by befriended Star Drifters. I am looking forward to the fruits of my cooperation with Surefire - I’m convinced that they will be fresh, juicy and very tasty.
Stay tuned for more info while I'm backpacking! I will have some surprises for you in the USA!
Recently, I’ve been quite busy, which is related to the upcoming PAX West 2022 in Seattle. As I said a few weeks ago, I’ll be there with Flooded (more information and booth number HERE). Yet - sometimes you have to slow down and remind yourself that even small steps bring us closer to our goal. It’s called progress.
The simplest facilitators of it are: clear rules, a vision of the finish line, and a reward system. All three are in Flooded. How? Inspired by strategy games with which I fell in love as a kid - by adding the eras system.
Up the ladder...
In Flooded, the gameplay can be divided into four stages - the Era of Mining (highlighting the extraction of ores and search for new deposits), the Era of Electricity (adding electricity production), the Era of Expansion (focusing on placing the buildings that can be placed on the ocean), and the New Era (allowing to complete remaining tasks).
Each of them increases the number of possibilities that we have and provides tasks to structure the level and help the player. For example - entering the Era of Electricity allows us to construct buildings related to... Yes, you guessed - electricity.
Closer to the end
As I mentioned, the main factor behind this shape of the game is the desire to engage the player. We all love when our efforts are rewarded (just remember the satisfaction of a D- at school)! What’s more, many games introduce intermediate points in larger missions - no one wants to keep players without gratification for too long, as it may negatively affect their enthusiasm.
Luckily, the genre and form of Flooded make it possible to weave such a system in a very natural way. While playing, we feel that we have a tangible influence on how the world is created, a world that seems to be heading towards a wet end.
This year's PAX East in Boston was an amazing experience. For the first time, I could personally present to you Flooded on such a scale. We had some friendly talks, exchanged thoughts and I saw at least a piece of the United States.
Well, it’s not a surprise that the best adventures are worth repeating. Nathan Drake has already proven how difficult it is to break away from them. That’s why this year I will once again travel overseas - this time as a participant of PAX West 2022 in Seattle! 🎉
You will find me at: Indie Games Poland - booth: 811.
I’ll give you more information soon and I must admit that I am looking forward to seeing you live. See ya!
We live in a world of sayings and proverbs. You surely heard that "you must make your dreams come true". Well, I agree. That's why I decided to fulfill one of those dreams that every kid of my generation had years ago.
I always thought it would be fun to have my own page that would list the most important moments and achievements in my life. Unfortunately, I haven't gotten one yet, but my game has!
Exactly - I am thrilled and overjoyed to inform you that Flooded has its digital encyclopedia. The Fandom team did a great job (seriously, they're like magicians!) and thanks to them you can search for the most important information about the game on the official wiki today!
So if you don’t understand how particular elements in the demo version work, what a given structure is for, or if you simply feel lost in the maze of artifacts, you can sort it out HERE! What is important, everything will be constantly updated.
Meanwhile, I'm going back to work - the coming weeks will be very hot. And not only because of the weather!
Long time no hear, huh? Yet, there is a specific reason for this - work loves silence. And nowadays I have a lot of work. Even ignoring the actions related to Steam Next Fest, Dev Booster, and the release of the demo... From the development side, Flooded is constantly progressing.
Recently, I have been focusing mainly on the campaign (sometimes I even dream of it!), but I also try to work with other mechanics and elements that can make the game more enjoyable. For example, I added controller support!
As if that was not enough, I developed two new structures - a flood embankment and a defensive dam, so that you have more ways to fight the destructive power of water other than just the artificial land. Special buildings such as hospitals, heat generators, and fire stations are now available in the game too. They can all be (well, they are) very useful.
Some time ago I added tornadoes and recently volcanoes have also started to appear on the islands! Besides, I have to mention the relics that I am working on - they literally keep popping into my head. They all affect the gameplay in some way, so they require a lot of work, but it's a very enjoyable activity.
All this is just a drop in the ocean (let’s hope it won’t lead to a flood...) of changes that occur in the game every day. I am constantly trying to correct all the shortcomings and fill in the gaps. I can largely do this thanks to you and your interest in the demo.
You keep giving me amazing ideas, many valuable comments, and information about bugs you come across. It all helps a lot and I want to thank you! You must know that everything is moving forward. Meanwhile, I'm going back to work - I just had an idea for another relic...
Have you ever heard about gamesweekberlin? It’s a - quote - festival for video game fans of all ages. Every year during this event there is a Dev Booster contest and Flooded is among the eight finalists who will compete for the grand prize!
So if you don’t have any plans for the afternoon of June 29th, make sure to join us live! The event starts at 5 PM CEST and will last approximately three hours. There will be presentations of each game, short Q&A sessions with the jury, and a segment dedicated to voting for the audience's favorite.
Well, speaking about that…
You will be able to cast a vote for your favorite game (*ekhem* Flooded *ekhem*) so it would be awesome to see your support.
Everything will be streamed on Twitch - just CLICK HERE.
Let’s conquer Dev Booster 22 - together we can do this!
The past week has been very busy. I was on high alert all the time, working on the game, correcting some shortcomings and bugs, and at the same time, I was listening closely to your feedback.
This was due to the Steam Next Fest that ended yesterday. During this time, I had the pleasure to do two live streams, talk to you a bit, and also (or above all :)) to present the Flooded demo to a wide audience for the first time.
Unforgettable time…
I am very pleased with the whole event because many of you have decided to download the demo version of my game and share your thoughts. I hope you had as much fun as I did during this time.
Yet, as I already mentioned - although the party is over, in another way it is just the beginning. There is still a long way to go until the premiere, and there are more events around the corner in which I will take part.
In the end, I have to add that I will be leaving the demo up at least for some time, so you can still check it out, if you didn’t get a chance during the Festival. I hope that we will be able to take the next steps toward the release together.
