Flotsam

Hotfix 0.1.11 Released

More fixes to the AI and some UI issues. We've also started to investigate the performance issues.
We've also added cloud support to the game. If you're playing on different computers your saves will now be shared between those.

Gameplay

  • Agents will now move import & export projects to the back of the project queue, instead of always prioritizing them over all other hauling projects. This would lead to the same producers being filled first all the time.

Audio

  • Made music in main menu looping.

Performance

  • Updated several methods to allocate less memory, which will decrease stuttering.
  • Removed unused game canvases from flotsam, which will increase overall framerate.
  • Several other small performance tweaks.

Fixes

  • Fixed issue where recent saved games couldn't be deleted.
  • Fixed issue where pop-up to delete save could stay on screen after loading that save.
  • Fixed issue where passive producers (wood dryer, solar still, etc) would get items stuck in them after saving & loading.
  • Fixed issue where fish schools would float on landmarks or collide with other objects.
  • Fixed issue where drifters could get stuck when trying to use an item from a storage that was being cleared.

Hotfix 0.1.10 Released

This patch fixes several issues, including those with drifters idling or not working on their constructions. Keep the reports coming!

Balancing

  • Halved flotsam island spawns: 20 → 10 (due to all flotsam now spawning inside range)

UI

  • Added version number in opening screen, main menu & loading screen.
  • Default survival guide key is now F1, instead of the overlapping G.

Fixes

  • Fixed issue where selecting the abandoned town when a boat was moored there would select the boat.
  • Fixed issue where drifters would stand around when there was a project available where an item would fit in storage, but the first items were not able to fit in the storage due to filters, causing them to start the project over and over again
  • Fixed issue where a construction / salvage project on a building was wrongfully persisted. This should fix the deconstruction bug, but this would have large-scale effects on the rest of the playthrough. [Fix does not apply to previous saves]
  • Fixed issue where time controls could be interacted with when in the map or survival guide.
  • Potentially fixed an issue where you couldn't save in certain timezones.
  • Fixed issue where dead bodies of drifters would make room for other drifters to stand.
  • Fixed issue where the hauling project to constructions would keep items reserved. This would mean you couldn't deconstruct the buildings. [Fix will fix future buildings in existing saves, but existing buildings will stay indestructible.]

Early Access Roadmap

Hey all!

Many of you were curious to what's coming on the horizon. Today we're showing you what's on the map ahead.

We'll be updating this roadmap regularly according to the feedback we get. If you want to stay up to date (or get a more detailed look), visit the roadmap on our site!

When do these release?
We want to focus on getting these content patches out as polished and bug-free as possible. We don't want to lock us in with deadlines that might set false expectations or force us to leave content out. For that reason we're not communicating dates yet.
More info about this coming soon!

What more will be added?
We looked at the game in the present and what we want it to be in the future. Combined with the feedback we already got, we decided these first patches are crucial to a better experience.
There’s many things we want to do with Flotsam. We’ve headed into Early Access to craft the game together with the community and as such this Roadmap is a living being that will change depending on feedback and how the game moves forward.

Keep suggesting feedback on the Steam forums and Discord!

Hotfix 0.1.9 Released

A new hotfix to fix some issues that we couldn't in last patch. It also adds support for more resolutions, including ultra-wide. This addition might need you to set your resolution again, our apologies for the inconvenience.

Gameplay

  • Prevented flotsam and fish schools from spawning in the fog. (Sorry for teasing you all so much.)

Pathfinding

  • Increased size of mooring point to improve pathfinding from it in the future.

Performance

  • Significantly reduced memory leak when moving back and forth between game and main menu.

Fixes

  • Fixed issue where a building or boat never finished construction.
  • Fixed issue where client would grind to a halt when loading a game. This would happen when you saved the game when a boat was reserved by an agent.
  • Fixed issue where walkway segments would remain after salvaging their pontons. [ Fix does not apply to previous saves :( ]
  • Fixed issue where resolutions not in 16:9 ratio weren't available.
  • Fixed issue where right-click pan was locked by centering on a game object.
  • Fixed issue where fish / salvage would be destroyed when it was unreachable. Drifters will now collect at the mooring point as a temporary solution.
  • Fixed issue where a mooring point could be deconstructed when a boat was on its way to it.

Hotfix 0.1.8 Released

Ahoy!
This is the first hotfix patch for Flotsam since launching! We'll be posting regular hotfixes to fix urgent issues. Bigger content patches are coming as well on a regular basis. Keep an eye on the news feed next week when we detail the roadmap for the next months!

Gameplay

  • Seagull now has a separate salvage buoy. This is a temporary solution as a seagull would break when salvaging / fishing. This buoy can only salvage, not fish. The seagull behaviour will be changed again in the future.

Fixes

  • Fixed metal / plastic counters counting anything containing metal / plastic, which could lead to the wrong number showing in their respective counters.
  • Fixed being able to eject items out of boats, which would cause issues down the line.
  • Fixed issue where landmark actions would not always be reset properly. This could cause problems when loading a save.
  • Fixed issue where an agent would try to navigate to themselves when loading.
  • Fixed import not being cleared when cancelling recipes while the items are still on their way to the producer. This could cause the producer to get stuck.
  • [TEMPORARY] Fixed issue where wrong items would be in the import inventory of a producer. They'll be moved to the export inventory as a temporary fix until we can find the root of the problem.
  • Fixed issue where you could still interact with the UI when the game was over.
  • Fixed issue where cancelling a landmark interaction would make it impossible to interact with the landmark again.
  • Fixed issue where cancel button of landmark wasn't translated.

Anchors away, here's how much Flotsam will cost!

Salvage up and get your stockpile going because we've decided on the release price.

When Flotsam releases next month it will be priced at $24.99 / €22.99 / £19.99 or the regional equivalent!
We'll launch with a 10% discount for a week, after that it's full price.

We're looking into regional pricing as well, more detailed info about that will be available on launch.

Edit: Some more info regarding questions that have been asked:

Why this price?

Looking at similar games in the genre, we feel Flotsam will stand strong among them and decided to adhere a similar price point.
We have plans for a long Early Access period to craft this game to make sure it reaches beyond it's potential of the price tag.
As we've been making Flotsam for almost 5 years with a small team, we worked as hard as possible to create the experience that we currently have and to grow as a team.
To provide the game with what it needs we feel this is a fair price.

What are you getting at release?

A unique townbuilding experience that's replayable with every session being different. Discover the hand-crafted 3D world with your community of stranded drifters by sailing to new areas and investigating landmarks with your boats.

We're opening the game to streamers before release to give everybody a chance to see what the game entails before selling it.
Development on Flotsam will continue for a while, feel free to hold off on buying it until the price feels right.

Thank you!

We have an o-fish-ial release date!
