Update of August 23, 2022 - more optimiztions and fixes

We just released an update that increases performance of the game and fixes some problems.

Now, even when there are tons of routes and hundreds of planes, the game should work much better than before.

Here's what we did:
- Optimized movement and rotation of planes
- Optimized creation of passengers
- Fixed a memory leak that could occur if you're playing for a long time.

Progress in game optimization!

We noticed that most of the negative feedback is based on low performance in some situations. Indeed, performance drops when player unlocks really many cities and spawns hundreds of planes (it's noticeable only in Free Mode - it's almost impossible to spawn that many planes in other modes). We are working on fixing this problem, in particular we are optimizing algorithm of calculating plane's position on the map and generating passengers in airports.



The work is still not done, but you can already see the first results - hundreds of planes and stable 60 frames per second! At the same time, we are refactoring code that launches different game modes, loads and saves the game. In the future, it will allow us to work on the game more effectively and will fix dozens of bugs.

Update of 29 July - fixes for events and more

We released a minor patch which fixes lack of events in some scenarios, problem with French locale and some fixes to Challenge Editor.

We understand you might've been waiting for something bigger. Even though now is the perfect time to take a break from work since it's summer, we're still working on updates. During the last month, we've been working a lot on fixing the game code which does basic things: starts different game modes, loads save files etc. In the future, this will let us work on the game faster. We are grateful to you for reporting bugs in the game about missing achievements, troubles with performance with a large number of routes etc. It's not always when problems are solved as fast as you and we would wish, but it doesn't mean that we are ignoring these issues. Right now, there are more than 50 cards in our task tracker which we'd like to complete soon. There is a lot of work to be done, but we're not afraid!

Fly Corp is back on Steam!

We're excited to tell you that Fly Corp has been returned to Steam! The game was removed because our partner who had access to the app was banned.
We thank Steam Support for the help and we appreciate our fellow players who stayed with us during these extremely stressful weeks. Thank you!



We uploaded the patch which solves problems with performance, improves balance in Unlock All Countries mode and fixes other minor bugs.

Looks like we can continue working on the game. As we said before, we have big plans for it. We'll do our best to keep making you happy with new updates.

Update 0.3.4 - colorblind modes and improvements to Challenge Editor!

In our game, color coding is necessary to quickly navigate between lots of connected cities and planes.
However, not everyone can distinguish some colors. This update is dedicated to those people, and it should make it easier to see how and airport of plane is filled up with passengers. Now you can select one of color blindness options in Settings. We're waiting for your feedback regarding these settings!





Here are some other changes:
- Added an option to enter texts for different languages.
- Now author is displayed near scenario's name (only for new scenarios).



- Fixed a bug with timer sound in custom scenarios.
- Fixed a bug in custom scenarios when, if win condition is to unlock countries each n minutes, the country is chosen randomly and there is no initial country selected, no country for unlock will be displayed in top-right corner. Now the initial country will be chosen randomly.
- Now, if the scenario was edited and the player has save file from the previous version of this scenario, this save file will be deleted.
- Added confirmation prompt for rewriting scenario file in Editor.
- Added confirmation prompt for deleting scenarios.
- Fixed a bug causing speed of planes to be rounded to 0,03.
- Fixed "Domestic flights" scenario. The number of passengers is now correct and they are only flying inside their own countries.
- Other minor fixes.

Plans for the nearest future: Daily Challenges and more

Challenge Editor for Steam version of Fly Corp is available, but that's only the beginning. Of course, not all of its potential is fully utilized because it's not very easy to share the scenarios. In a future update we'd like to implement uploading scenarios to the server, rating them and other functionality. But this is not the easiest task, so we'll have to wait a little. We'll release some more interesting updates beforehand.

1) On this week, we'll release an update for Challenge Editor. You will be able to add texts for any language - the selected translation will be shown to players. If the player has English set as game language, English text will be displayed. If German, German will be displayed if it's present. Also, we'll fix some of the bugs. As always, the full list is coming along with the update itself.

2) Daily scenarios. Each day will feature its own unique scenario. It will be available for only one day. Of course, there will be leaderboard for each one. As we wrote, you can send us your scenario as a candidate for Daily section!

3) Settings for color-blind people. In our game, colors are playing a crtitical role in gameplay. It makes it almost impossible to play for color-blind people. We've been planning to fix this problem for a long time and finally, we'll fix it. Maybe, we'll post an article about this problem and how we prepared this update for release.

4) Patches and bugfixes and routing system rework. Now some players have problems with performance when building routes if there are many cities are unlocked and many routes are created. We'll fix the problem by implementing the all-new route searcher.

Of course it's not everything we have in plans. We'll tell you more in later posts.

Publish your scenario for Daily mode!

Do you want thousands of players to try your scenario in action? Well, it's possible! Recently we released Challenge Editor. You can read more about creating custom scenarios here: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2813470098

We're planning to launch another new game mode soon: Daily Scenario. Each day will have its own scenario, but this scenario will only be available for one day! Of course, Leaderboard will be present for each one as well.
Your scenario can be one of those which will be used in this mode. Thousands of players will try it even on mobile devices!

So, you created a great scenario. What's next? You can pass it over to us using any of the following methods:

Challenge Editor Beta is available!

We're happy to release the biggest update in Fly Corp's history - Challenge Editor Beta!



You can now create your own scenarios using in-game Editor. And even if you're not up to creating challenges, but you really like completing challenges, now there will be much more of them thanks to other players creating them.

We should warn you that this editor is in open beta, and bugs are possible. Interface is also in a very early stage of development. However, all official scenarios were created in this editor, which means that you can create scenarios using it.

With the Editor, we're posting one of the scenarios created there. It's called Southern Africa, and you need 11 randomly chosen countries (6 minutes for each). You can try to edit it and see what happens.

The final version of Editor is coming together with the release of Fly Corp closer to the end of the year. Also, we're planning to create a simpler way to play and share challenges: through the server. In the future, you will be able to quickly upload scenarios to the server. Other players will download, complete, compete for a place in Leaderboard, and rate the scenarios.

Now we're waiting for your feedback. We understand that some things in the Editor and some game aspects are not obvious, and some things need to be done in a way of trial and errors. We'll try to improve it in the future.

We hope you'll like what we've been doing for so long, and Editor will begin a new era for Fly Corp.

Challenge Editor Beta coming soon!

We're glad to tell you that internal testing of Challenge Editor is going on without critical problems, and we'll make this beta open before the end of this month.

Releasing this Beta will be the biggest update in the game's history yet. We'll create a separate topic in Steam Discussions and a separate channel on our Discord server for sharing and downloading challenges made by you, players. We'd like to make it possible to upload challenges on a server so that you can download and upload them without exiting the game. So, if you don't want to make your own challenges, you'll still have the content to play.

If editor will be popular, we'll gradually extend its functionality. It all depends on your support.
Besides the Editor, we're working on fixing especially annoying bugs and rewriting code of the project (a quick reminder: we decided to re-write the game almost from scratch. For example, the new version uses much faster and reliable algorithm of route search). Another functionality to implement is the new version of World map (we hope to make it scrollable from both sides, as you asked). However, this is going to take quite a lot of time, so the scheduled arrival of reworked version is this atumn, closer to the release of the game.

But we have other plans to bring into life beforehand: improve saving system and optimize performance when creating new routes on the late game stages, when there is a huge number of routes.
We read your messages and try to adjust out plans in accordance with your desires. We might not always succeed in making things as quick as we would like to, but all noticeable and useful bugreports and requests are put in our task tracker.

Below you can see a picture which will be displayed if event "Show message to player" is triggered by Editor - creator of the challenge will have the possibility to show any text to player so that he sees it in the specified moment of gameplay. If you combine it with other events, like adding or subtracting money, unlocking countries or cities, you can create interesting situations. Maybe, you would like to create a story-driven challenge? As always, feel free to write whether you are going to try yourself in creating Challenges in the comments (maybe, you've already got some ideas about them?)

We have released a new update

We have released a small update.

We altered the mechanism of counting your score after completing time-limited challenges (Unlock N countries and get N credits for the certain period of time). We added a new coefficient for the final player's count. Earlier, players didn't have the necessity to hurry up, and it was more profitable to play to the final point when the time was almost up. Now, the faster you complete the challenge, the bigger is the multiplier (starting at 0% and finishing with 100%). For example, if you need to unlock 5 countries for 10 minutes and you did it for 9 minutes, the remaining time (1 minute) is 10% from this time, meaning that your final score will be multiplied by 10%, which is 1,1.

Also:

  • We added 2 missing pictures for random events (about virus and results of charity and PR campaign events).
  • Fixed a problem with generation of passengers, which appeared for some players when playing for a long time and using save files.
  • Fixed some localizations for certain languages.
