FM23 Final Data Update Now Live

The Final Data Update for Football Manager 2023 is now available across platforms*.

Featuring more than 250,000 database changes since the Main Data Update on March 2nd, this update includes activity from transfer windows that closed during February**, including MLS, along with further gameplay fixes.

All gameplay adjustments will take effect in current careers, although you will need to begin a new save game to take advantage of the data updates.

The changes in the 23.4 update include, but are not limited to:
• Fixed rare crash affecting some users with saves started with December 2022 start date
• Addressed an issue where users can’t ask the board to upgrade Youth Recruitment to maximum level
• Addressed an issue where the Team Instructions will disappear when users change formation via the Formation dropdown menu in Tactics
• Fixed an issue where Wing Play and Route One tactical styles are missing from the Tactical Style dropdown menu in Tactics

Most updates of this nature should download automatically but if yours doesn’t, simply quit and relaunch Steam or the Epic Games Store to prompt it to do so. If you’re playing via the Windows Store or Game Pass, you may need to manually search for the update.

You can manually check for updates on Xbox by hovering over Football Manager 2023 Console, pressing the menu button, navigating to 'Manage game and add-ons' and selecting 'updates'.

To check for an update on PS5, highlight a game thumbnail in your games home and press the options button to display the options menu. Select Check for Update. If an update is available, follow the instructions to install the update.

On your iPhone and iPad, apps that you download from the App Store are automatically updated by default. If there's an issue, you can update an app manually.

For FM23 Mobile players on Android, the game should update automatically. You can update manually by opening the Google Play Store App and tapping the profile icon. From there, tap ‘Manage Apps and Device’. Apps with an update available are labelled 'Update available'.

*Please note that the update may go live at different times on each platform. The update for FM23 Touch (Apple Arcade and Nintendo Switch™) is scheduled to launch on March 29th but this will take a number of hours to deploy properly.

**Owing to a change to the closing date of Chinese transfer window, that data is not included here. Instead, a further update addressing the relevant moves in and out of the Chinese leagues will be released in the coming weeks.

How To Use The New Recruitment Focus In FM23

Across Football Manager 2023, there have been enhancements which align in-game actions with how real-life clubs operate more so than in any previous edition.

Working with a variety of clubs and contacts across the globe, insight into how teams utilise their scouting network and complete player transfers has resulted in a fully updated scouting system for FM23. The main product of this is the brand new Recruitment Focus.

In this Byline article, FM Stag and Dan Gear take us through what the Recruitment Focus is, how it works and how to get the best out of it to help with your player recruitment.

Development Update – FM23

Studio Director Miles Jacobson on how FM23 will approach the Turkey-Syria earthquake disaster.

Everyone at Sports Interactive has been deeply saddened by the tragic events in the regions of south-eastern Turkey and northern Syria affected by the catastrophic earthquakes. More than 40,000 people are now known to have tragically lost their lives and the number unfortunately continues to rise. With many colleagues and friends in the region, our thoughts are with them, their families and everyone affected at this utterly devastating time.

Football in Turkey has also faced disaster and disruption. A number of players and staff members have lost their lives. Clubs from areas impacted, including some in the top division, have been given the option to sit out the remainder of the season without fear of relegation.

We have to think very carefully about how we reflect natural disasters and other global events in Football Manager. Making FM is an ongoing quest to create a virtual world that’s authentic to ours but, as we saw with the pandemic and how we chose to handle that in-game, it can also offer an alternative reality.

Following on from internal discussions, here is how we’ll be dealing with the crisis in the forthcoming FM23 update. We hope you are supportive of the changes:

  • We have given over in-game advertising hoardings to the Disaster Emergencies Committee who are co-ordinating fundraising for 15 leading UK aid charities, either directly or with local partners in Southeast Turkey and Northern Syria. Those should be in-game by the time you read this article.

  • We will respect the families of those players and staff members who are confirmed as having lost their lives by removing them from FM23.

  • The leagues affected by the earthquakes will continue as normal in-game. We won’t be incorporating real-life fixtures suspensions.

Many of us at the studio have made donations to various charities who are working on the ground in the catastrophe-hit areas, including WarChild and the Red Cross. SEGA Europe is also matching employee donations to the Red Cross to ensure that those contributions help as many people as possible.

Power Your FM23 Performances With The Half Back

The changes to the match engine in Football Manager 2023 have made it more important than ever to ensure that you’ve got the right balance in your midfield.

One key defensive midfield role that’s been getting a lot of love recently is the Half Back. We’ve built a tactic around it with EFL side West Bromwich Albion, who have two natural Half Backs in Okay Yokuslu and Jake Livermore, to show you how best to play with the role in FM23.

Visit The Byline on The Football Manager Website to see how to unlock the full potential of the Half Back role.
