Forge Quest

Release Canidate 1.49.1

The following is an update to the 1.49 branch (See previous announcement for more details)

Updates:
The Ice dungeon now has been changed - come check out its chilly depths. (Note: This will require you to rebuild your world to see these changes)
Also, we know the mobs are lower level than normal, but we wanted to get this update out asap to fix some bugs and have people check it out. We'll fix this issue soon.

Note:
1.49.1 will require you to rebuild your world to move to this version.

Bug Fixes:
Older characters (pre 1.49) can now be loaded - this will require rebuilding their worlds.

Older items, if they had more sockets will still have the same number of sockets even if the newer item definition has less.

Existing runes greater than level max rune level will retain their level but take up space as if they were max rune level

Blacksmith and dungeon portals won't show up on every one of the first few levels of the earth dungeon

Consumables can no longer be combined.

Match-three game shows a fragment as the prizes that you are earning.

When selling to a store if the item is selected when you sell it, after the sell you will be selecting the item preceding it rather than jumping back to the first item in your inventory.

Rune of revitalization has been fixed and new ones that drop will have the correct attributes.

The detailed description of a rune now lists their socket requirement if they have one. (i.e. if they only go into a particular type of socket
weapon/armour/accessory)

Certain rarer items had less max enchantment value than they should have, this is fixed.

Rings will now allow runes to be placed into their sockets.

Runes that bolster class abilities when inspected have text next to the amount now to reflect if it modifies damage/duration/etc.

Fragments now properly contribute to combining.

Drop rates of runes and fragments have been lessened slightly.

Pets should now move normally again.

Forge now indicates that it is currently not in service.

Pets should no longer get in the way of solving block puzzles once again.

Known bugs:
Monster level scaling of the first two dungeons across difficulties isn't working.

Release Canidate 1.49 (TESTERS NEEDED)

Dave and I have been hard at work getting the next update out. It's taken us this long because there is quite a bit of things that have changed since 1.48. Including but not limited to lighting system overhaul, first dungeon overhaul, item drop & runes overhaul, completely new inventory menus, shield/blocking overhaul, new enemies, new traps, plus much more!

However, with such a large change we didn't want to drop this onto our users abruptly. Not only will this change the experience of play quite a bit, but we still want users to test out the changes to inform us of any bugs as well as tell us how they feel about the new features.

So instead of a normal release, we are going to be adding a special build of 1.49b that can optionally be downloaded to your machine. If you wish to take a look at what is coming we encourage you to do so and let us know! Below are instructions on how to update to this special build.

CAUTION PLEASE READ BEFORE CONTINUING!!!

Because there are so many changes, we strongly encourage that you backup your character files before updating to this special build.

BACKING UP YOUR CHARACTERS

  • Locate Forge Quest in your Steam library
  • Right click Forge Quest and select properties
  • A window will appear, in there select the "Local Files" tab and hit the "Browse Local Files..." button
  • A OS window will open to where Forge Quest is located. In this folder you will need to make a copy of the "characters" and "worlds" directory. Store these copies anywhere except the Forge Quest directory.
  • If you are on Mac, you will instead see the application package. You can access the files above by right clicking the app and selecting "Show Package Contents" and navigating to "/Contents/Resources/".

Updating to 1.49b

  • Locate Forge Quest in your Steam library
  • Right click Forge Quest and select "Properties"
  • In the new window, select the "Betas" tab
  • There is a input field, put the text "cluckinsrules" without quotes and hit the "Check Code" button
  • Steam will notify you that you have unlocked the beta. You can then choose to update to that build using the drop down list in the same tab.
  • If Steam doesn't automatically update the game, you can use the "Properties" -> "Local Files" -> "Verify Integrity of Game Cache" to force an update

If you do decide to try out this build, please please let us know your thoughts either through the community discussion pages or e-mail at support@forgequestrpg.com. We highly value your opinions on the changes we have made and want to hear from you.

We also encourage making a new character as many world content changes were done to the first earth dungeon, and the other dungeons have not yet been changed. Though using an old character is just as valid.

Thank you all for sticking with us being part of our community!
- Chase & Dave

Quick Patch 1.48.1b

An issue was brought to our attention in our last update. This issue affects people interaction with a few scripted objects in game and mostly on Mac/Linux machines. Those objects would become un-responsive and the player would be unable to continue a dungeon. This update will solve this issue.

As always, after updating if you are still experiencing any issue please let us know on the community pages and/or our support e-mail support@forgequestrpg.com

Release 1.48b

This update is a fairly light one, mostly containing bug fixes for issues we have noticed since the last update. We have been hard at work redoing the dungeon generation code in attempt to bring much more interesting and varying dungeons, which with any luck will be ready to go out in the next update. As always, if you experience any issues with the game please let us know either via the community page or our support email support@forgequestrpg.com

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed, tombstones being placed in puzzle rooms. This caused some un-solvable rooms that prevented playing the game. This fix only affects the generation of dungeons which are done when creating a new character. If you experience this issue, use the world rebuild feature to force re-generate the world.
  • Fixed, crash in multiplayer when non-hosting client would dodge and attack. This was kind of a big one.
  • Fixed, hotkeys 5-8 were not properly saving to disk, making user need to re-configure them each time.
  • Updated input code to handle all keycodes coming from system input. This should allow non-QWERTY and other forgein keyboard to configure the game properly.
  • There were also a handful of small bugs that got patched, not big enough to mention.

Release 1.47b

(ATTENTION: This update will require people to rebuild their world. Many storyline and game flow have been added or modified. You will be prompted the next time you go to load your character.)

Today's update is a fairly heavy weight one. There are a number of features and bug fixes, but also a large potion of story content added to the game, including the final boss fight. As an early access keep in mind that not all of this content is final, and we will be tweaking and adding to this content in future updates. If you have any feedback on the changes please let us know in the community!

Features

  • Player revive. While in multiplayer, when a character dies he will now go to a fainted state. Other players have a short window to revive this player by interacting with him. Reviving is not instant, so you may have to kill an enemy or two before returning to your friend. Reviving only puts the player back up to half maximum health. (A few sound effects for this process are not yet complete, they will come later)
  • Huge story update. There are now several story points in the game that have been added which trails the progression of the game until the final boss. We already suspect we may need to trim some of the length, a lot of that will come with player feedback. Because of these changes, a world rebuild is required.
  • Final Boss version 1.0. The final boss has finally been added to the game, he is fought right after the fire dungeon and a few storyline moments. He is being labelled as 1.0 as his mechanics and level are likely to change in future updates. Also many of the sound effects for the battle are not yet complete, those will come in later updates. If you have feedback about the boss fight please let us know in the forums!
  • Achievements! Yes they are finally here, you can find all of them along with their requirements on Steam. It's likely we will be adding and tweaking a few of these. If you have any comments or have any good ideas for ones you would like to see let us know.

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed, crash when you would open menu while in the middle of a sword swing
  • Fixed, error caused level up effect to show on player and pets at inappropriate times.
  • Fixed, swamp overworld not having as many enemies as it should.
  • Fixed, petshop merchant now lets you know if your inventory is full when giving you the pet dragon.
  • Fixed, runes will no longer have sockets. This was never intended.
  • Fixed, after forging an item the component values were not being properly updated.
  • Fixed, pilliars could sometimes obscure button puzzles.
  • Fixed, in multiplayer, Terry could sometimes spawn multiple copies of himself when he fights you before the earth dungeon.

If you experience any issues or simply have feedback, please contact us either on the community discussion page or via e-mail at support@forgequestrpg.com.

Release 1.46b

ATTENTION: You will be forced to rebuild your world before you can continue playing with an old character. This is because we have made changes that require core world files to be updated. Your character won't change, you will still have your items, exp, and the progress in the game is preserved, but the structure of the world will be updated. As we go through the final stages of Early Access this will likely be required in the future as well.

This update is a bit longer to come out the previous, but there is plenty of work that was put into it during that time. The major noticeable changes are the addition/change of story for Terry and the new pet system. There have been a good number of visual updates as well and you will likely notice them as you are playing through the game. For an exact detailed list, you can look below.

Bug Fixes

Release 1.45b

We are happy to announce we just released version 1.45b. As of late we have been hard at work brewing up new content for the game, story, gameplay elements as well as improvements for the game. Only a small portion of that is coming out in this release, but there will be more to come as we implement and polish the content.

As always if you experience any issues please let us know in the community section, or at support@forgequestrpg.com.

Features

  • Push Block Puzzles - These are your classic Zelda style push block puzzle. Much like monster trap rooms and the floor button puzzle, you will encounter them in dungeons and will need to push the blocks to the correct location to continue. We have created a number of puzzles which increase in difficulty through the dungeons.

Keep in mind that to see the puzzle, you will need to rebuild your world. This can be done as an option when you select your character to play.

  • UPNP Network Routing - To improve network connectivity we have included the ability for the application to use UPNP. If your router supports and has this feature turned on, it allows your to host a game without needing to manually port forward the port to your machine. This is done automatically in game, so there is nothing you need to change in our settings. When you start a public game we will attempt to configure UPNP and let you know the results in a message window.

Notable Bug Fixes

  • Fixed bug that may cause jittering of player's actions when they pick up an item.

Release 1.44b

This version has a number of changes in every category. Most exciting is our Linux 32 bit version, monster path finding and treasure is now separate per character! For more information below is a detailed list of the changes.

Bug Fixes

  • Item "Recover Runes Greater" was not doing anything when used. It works now.
  • Fixed error that caused some melee attacks to hit twice.
  • Fixed player health bug, caused players who sometimes equipped +max_health items to have less max health then expected.
  • Fixed several issues with UI elements that were acting funny.
  • Pet dog wasn't showing his true model, now it does.
  • GUI would sometimes flicker, or elements would show incorrectly for one frame. This is now solved.
  • Minimap icons now-again are saved to the level vision, and will show up next time you go to that zone.

Features

  • Linux 32 bit version now available.
  • Monsters now intelligently path when they pursue a player. This should make monsters a bit harder to get away from, and make mazes much more of a challenge. This doesn't affect pets right now, as we are in the middle of reworking that system completely.
  • Treasure and hearts drops are now local to each player, not shared. If an item drops on screen, only you can see and pick it up.
  • Hearts are now picked up automatically like all other treasure.
  • Inventory tabs are now big icons. Looks much better then text tabs we had before.
  • Item drops in world are now billboards instead of models. Should give slight render improvement.

Balancing

  • Skeleton now attack faster after coming out of the ground
  • Necromancer spawns skeletons immediately after seeing player. Necromancer also now has x1.5 health.
  • Large jellies health was reduced form 2.5 to 2 times.

Windows 8.1 + integrated Intel HD GPU

We are currently investigating an issue that some people have with the game while running Windows 8.1 and have an integrated Intel HD graphics chip. This doesn't affect all users, only a handful of them. It also doesn't seem to be isolated to our game, as we have seen it affect multiple games on their system.
