Compete Against Other Players On The Leaderboard!


Challenge yourself to play increasingly difficult missions and you'll be able to improve your score and rank. Expand the ranked interface to see how you stack up against other players near you on the leaderboard.


Right now the ranked system uses an email to register, but in the future I'm planning to integrate this with your Steam account to make it easier and to use your Steam profile picture. I added my profile pic in the mock-up below to show what I hope the final result will look like.

Your profile shows off your current standing, your top placements from previous seasons, and your most played character(s). I hope you'll enjoy competing against other players in Former Future!

Select From Different Missions On Saturn's Moons!


You can now select from a few different missions to play! Currently there isn't much difference between them other than difficulty, but I'm hoping to add differing environments and new mission objectives soon.


Object Shadows!


Objects now cast shadows which are calculated based on the size and positions of the windows in the room when the room is generated. I think they make the room look much better!




Tactical Selection Rework!


I simplified the "Tactical Selection," which is where you choose which floor you want to go to next. Now you just choose between two options and then the level moves onto the next set. I hope this ends up being more intuitive for players.

Controller Support and 2-Player Co-Op Gameplay!


Get ready to break out your controllers because you'll be able to enjoy playing Former Future on the couch with your roommate, friend, or significant other!




A New Enemy To Battle!


This robot prefers to engage at mid to long range and in tight spaces. Its projectiles bounce off of walls and objects, meaning that you'll need to keep track of more possible angles of attack.




Protect Tech Canisters!


You'll notice a new object on certain floors. If you are able to protect these tech canisters while clearing the floors you'll receive some bonus tech to spend on upgrading your character!

Select The Skills That Fit Your Playstyle!


On the loadout selection screen you can mix and match different rayguns and skills to discover the playstyle that fits you best! I wanted to provide and interface that feels simple to use for new players, but also has a lot of depth for the players who really want to get into character build optimization. Hopefully I achieved that!



On the surface its as easy as picking four skills that sound fun. Each skill adds to the player's four attributes (Agility, Cunning, etc.). Attributes add extra power to skills with stats associated with those attributes. For example, the more Cunning the player has, the longer the duration of Kinetic Barrier will be. This allows for some interesting optimization and rewards players for creating builds that focus on using skills that share a similar playstyle.

A New Character Joins the Roster!


Nancy is a skirmisher who prefers to kite/lead her enemies around while picking them off one by one. Her relatively low health and shield means she prefers to keep the enemy at a distance and use cover whenever possible, but her large accelerant pool gives her huge burst damage potential. I hope players will enjoy her unique play-style!



A New Elite Enemy!


This elite variant will attempt to slow the player with its basic attack and then use its powerful snipe ability. A good time to dodge is when it starts charging up!



Improve Enemy Models and AI!


All units have all been updated from 2D sprites to 3D models, and I think they look much better! Its also a lot more clear where they are aiming.

Enemy units now choose from one of several different AI behaviors and attack patterns available to them depending on the situation. The units shout text to provide information about the tactics they are currently using. Hopefully they will feel dynamic and fun to play against!
