I extended the timers for tournament play. Players were getting squeezed out a little too quickly making tournaments difficult to complete naturally without someone running out of time.
The initial timer for a tournament game is now 48 hours, truce time is 48 hours, and the minimum turn time has been bumped from 30 minutes to 8 hours.
So if your opponent takes his turn right after you go to bed, you can get a decent nights sleep before you have to respond.
Update 25
Version: AlfaCharlieNovemberBeefaholic
Removed the Replay Button when it's not your turn. It wasn't designed for that and it would cause crashes. That's not the end of replay problems but it should help.
Update 24
Version: BravoDeltaOscarGoosepimple
Fixed a couple of bugs, including a replay crash. Replays have been tough for me, so there might be more problems with it but one of the bugs is fixed.
Update 23
BravoDeltaOscarCollegeboy
Added an Ω to the default 'General Changethis' default profile name, so that they sort after Z. This way people who come up with their own names get some higher standing. My apologies to anyone who's character name is written in Greek, because this probably won't work for you.
Fixed a problem with the tournament list
Fixed my bug reporting system, now I'm buried in bugs again.
Added a day slot to the turn timer, in case we want timers longer than 24 hours in the future.
Update 22
Version: AlfaCharlieNovemberPuppies
Fixed a possible tournament cheat. Expanded notifications for the android version to include tournament postings.
Patch Notes 21
Version: CharlieEchoOscarBeefaholic
Had some serious bugs with the tournament system. I'm too embarrassed to talk about it.
Update 20
Version: CharlieEchoOscarWiddershins
Just a little hotfix for notifications.
Forward Line - Tournament Mode!
It's been a very long time since the last update! I will try to explain my long absence. It was clear early on that Forward Line is at it's heart a competitive two player game. I worked hard to make multiplayer possible, but finding an opponent is difficult. The game needs to bring people together who want to play.
However, the scope of such a project was daunting, and I had absolutely no idea how to make such a thing happen, so I had to go and learn every little thing. Here we are years later and I have this to show for it. As this is my first foray into cloud computing, it's probably riddled with bugs but I pray that what I'm trying to do here is feasible and will eventually work!
The first thing you'll want to do when you enter the tournament area is to create an account. It is all based on email and password. Once you have your account, you'll want to make your general that will represent you in the community. This isn't a beauty contest, if you can deliver those war materials to the enemies of democracy, it's okay if you have a severe overbite or a lost eye or any such less than comely appearance.
Once you are situated and happy with your crafted Forward Line persona, you can create and join tournaments. Before you create a tournament however, you will need to provide a medal to award the eventual winner of the tournament. You can create a new medal from scratch, or you can use one of the medals you have won previously. If you choose one of your own medals from a past win, and you win ist back again, the medal will get a 3x prestige bonus, so the risk might be worth it if you are a confident player.
The ranking system for players is entirely based on medals. Medals gain prestige depending on the number of players competing for them in each tournament. As the medals are used in repeated tournaments, they will grow in prestige and become more valuable. Medals that are risked on new tournaments might also get a large prestige bonus if the risking player should win the medal back again. You might not want to risk your best medal this way, but if you have some lying around that are stagnating you might try to pump them back up to importance.
To get started with the beta, right click on Forward Line in your Steam library listing, choose "Properties..." and in the BETAS menu the beta access code will be "BackwardLine". Keep in mind this is an early beta, and it might not work very well at first. The FL community here on Steam is very small still, but once I'm confident this is working I'll release it here and on Android, and the combined communities and pool of possible opponents will be much larger.
Thank you for your continued interest in Forward Line. I hope you are enjoying it.
Patch Notes 18
Version: DeltaFoxtrotGolfCollegeboy
Added a replay feature that will be useful once multiplayer goes asynchronous. Added a frequently requested feature to refuse the enemy's surrender! I struggled with this one philosophically, but I found a solution in keeping with the game's ethos.
Patch Notes 17
Version CharlieEchoEchoSnorington:
Fixed a bug that didn't allow a multiplayer game without bad weather.
