It's time to go deeper. Enter THE TRITON INCIDENT.
It's been nearly a year since we at Archiact released FREEDIVER: Triton Down here on Steam, and one thing is clear: you're dying to know what happened after the game's credits finally rolled.
Well, now you can get a glimpse of just that!
Enter: The Triton Incident
We're telling the story beyond the game, and we're getting inventive while doing it. The Triton Incident is a full cast, multi-episode science fiction audio drama, which follows one young woman on her journey to unravel the dangerous mysteries surrounding the sinking of the RSV Triton, even if the truth may reopen old wounds. As she may soon learn: some depths are better left unexplored.
Best of all, all 4 episodes are available now! Find them on:
[previewyoutube="LD67RCDpxik;full"] It’s got that found-footage feeling, like the secret documentary you weren’t supposed to find. You can expect twists, some new characters, some familiar ones, and seriously pro voice-acting that’s sure to impress even the most discerning of fiction podcast lovers.
If you’re a fan of audio dramas like Limetown, The White Vault, or even The Dropout, then you should definitely give it a listen!
Why an Audio Drama?
As we shared with Upload VR in our recent interview with them, we're challenging ourselves as a creative studio to find new and intriguing ways to tell our stories, from VR to AR, and beyond. By exploring unique media such as audio dramas, short stories, and more, we're excited to bring you back into the worlds and characters we create in our games, without waiting for a whole new game to release!
It's an experimental project we're calling Story Drops, and Season One so far includes The Triton Incident audio drama, as well as an upcoming webcomic. (Definitely stay tuned for that.)
And if VR games are still your number one jam, don't worry; we're still a VR development studio at heart, so keep watching for new titles to come from us in the future, in addition to exciting new storytelling projects!

FREEDIVER is a Finalist for VR Game of the Year!
When we saw the news, we had to take our own tagline's advice. #DontForgetToBreathe
That's right, FREEDIVER: Triton Down has been officially shortlisted for the AIXR VR Awards' Game of the Year! There are some truly amazing titles standing alongside us, including Astrobot, Falcon Age and Vacation Simulator, and we couldn't be prouder. This is very much the little game that could!
You can see the full list of VR Awards finalists across all categories here: https://vrawards.aixr.org/finalists-2019/
The winner will be chosen by a panel of talented VR judges, and announced at the awards ceremony this November. We're already counting down the days, but in the meantime, be sure to keep your fingers crossed for us!
The 1.04 Update for FREEDIVER: Triton Down has officially arrived!
For this update, we're addressing points of feedback we've heard from players like you, including the ability to disable in-game hints, as well as improved Grip controls for those playing on VIVE headsets.
FREEDIVER: Triton Down launched last week to wonderful response from the VR community, and we couldn't be more grateful. Now we're paying it forward, and using this opportunity to give back!
Keeping Our Coasts Beautiful
In honour of #WorldOceansDay, we're kicking off a campaign to raise funds for the Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup. Founded in 2002, this national conservation program strives to keep Canada's shoreline ecosystems healthy, and relies on nearly 800,000 volunteers to carry out regular trash cleanups across the country. That's more than 1.3 million kilograms of trash removed from our beaches over nearly two decades, and we couldn't be more excited to participate!
How are we helping?
Starting today, we will be pledging 50 cents for every like/retweet/share that these (Twitter/Facebook) social media posts receive, as well as one dollar for every copy of FREEDIVER: Triton Down sold over the next few days. If you were thinking of adding FREEDIVER to your VR library, now is the time to take the plunge!
Not only that, we'll be rolling up our sleeves and hitting the Vancouver beaches for our very own cleanup later this summer. (We're going out trash-collecting rain or shine, so expect some very candid photos from the adventure!) FREEDIVER wouldn't exist if it wasn't for our beautiful and inspiring oceans, so we're doing our part to make sure it stays beautiful and healthy for generations to come.
Get Involved!
If you're looking to get active yourself, you can help by sharing our social posts, encouraging your friends to do the same, donating to the GCSC organisation directly, or even organising a clean up of your own! No matter what, we're so thankful for your support, and can't wait to get pledging!
Details About Our Pledge
Archiact pledges to donate $0.50 CAD to the Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup for every like and retweet on this Tweet, as well as every like/share on this Facebook post, up to a total of $500. Likes/retweets/shares must occur between 12:00 AM PT June 8, 2019, and 11:59 PM PT June 16, 2019.
Archiact pledges to donate $1.00 CAD to the Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup for every copy of FREEDIVER: Triton Down sold, up to 1,000 copies. FREEDIVER copies must be sold on Steam or the Oculus store between 12:00 AM PT June 8, 2019, and 11:59 PM PT June 16, 2019.
The final pledge amount will be announced on social media on June 17, 2019, with the donation sent to the Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup shortly thereafter.
While we think the Vancouver Aquarium, the WWF and the Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup are amazing conservation efforts, we are in no way affiliated with them. Just looking to raise funds for a great cause!
Dive into the deep end - FREEDIVER: Triton Down is available NOW
Navigate a sinking ship, overcome underwater chaos, and unlock your path to the surface, all while protecting your most precious resource: the breath in your lungs. FREEDIVER: Triton Down is available on PC VR now!
As you can see, this is no everyday diving trip for Ren Tanaka. At the behest of her eccentric mentor, Dr. Lindstrom, Ren finds herself exploring uncharted ocean caves as part of a seagoing research team, and delving deeper than perhaps anyone should. When the team’s research ship capsizes during a raging storm and their wonder quickly turns on its head, freediver Ren might be the only one capable of escaping the sinking Triton.
When it comes to FREEDIVER, ‘don’t forget to breathe’ is more than a tagline; it’s almost a disclaimer. We’ve seen players physically hold their breath while they navigate the chaos we throw at them, and gasp for breath when they hit an air pocket. It’s just as intense to watch as it is to play!
FREEDIVER: Triton Down is available now for $8.99 USD.
Check it out, and let us know what you think.
