Wishlist The Life and Suffering of Prince Jerian now!
The Life and Suffering of Prince Jerian is a narrative roleplaying game that casts the player as the heir to the Blessed Arknian Empire, who must carve out a destiny for his nation. The world is grim, and the gods are eager to punish anyone who breaks their commandments. People live preordained lives, their fates sealed the moment they are born. It is up to the player to decide what kind of leader they will be: uphold the established order, or build a new kind of future.
You, Prince Jerian of House Tempest, must embark on a lifelong journey. It starts in your childhood, blissfully ignorant of your destiny, and continues into maturity as you take up a role you have been primed for since birth: emperor. As crown prince, you must not only understand your country and its culture, but also make many difficult choices that affect the fragile balance of powers in the Empire, and inside yourself. If you go where political circumstance and family obligations guide you, you risk losing yourself in the chaos. Can you keep yourself whole, or will you shatter?

Let’s talk Frequency: Chernobyl - development progress notes
Hey there, Community! We haven’t shared any info with you in a while, but rest assured - the game’s development is in full swing! In this article, we’d like to give you an update regarding the progress made in the last couple of months.
Locations, textures, and lightning
The story of Frequency: Chernobyl takes place in a relatively small area surrounding the Duga OTH radar system. The protagonist won’t have to explore a large open world, thus allowing us to focus on modeling the 3D assets for a photorealistic recreation of the game’s real-life locale.
This rather broad array of tasks includes model positioning, post-processing, lighting effects, as well as recreating textures and materials according to the photos and videos that were taken on-site, etc.
As you know, the mighty Duga radar station and the buildings surrounding it were deserted for a very long time, so we had to take this fact into consideration when working on the in-game world. Players will encounter abandoned items, overgrown plants, rusty metal constructions, and graffiti left behind by previous visitors, whereas indoors sections will be decorated with faded Soviet-era posters, crumbling plaster, and old-fashioned furniture.
Scenario and quests
We have dedicated a sizable portion of our time to storyline-related tasks, dialogues, and tricky ciphers. About the first thirty minutes of gameplay are meant to be quite linear, with puzzles queued up to form a continuous chain of events. We intentionally designed the prologue in this way to give the player more time to get used to the controls and the game’s core mechanics. Moving forward, they will come across unexpected plot twists, hidden Easter eggs, as well as more sophisticated missions. Our goal is to enriсh the game’s lore while putting an emphasis on individual characters’ personalities.
Voiceovers, sound effects, and the OST
We have recently added numerous in-game sounds, a couple of ham radio stations, as well as random amateur radio transmissions, and new background music. This aspect of Frequency: Chernobyl is handled by a professional sound producer, and we have partnered with a talented composer, Tim32, to produce an original soundtrack. Feel free to check some of his tracks here: tim32.bandcamp.com/music
What’s next?
The Frequency: Chernobyl prologue is almost ready as we are adding some finishing touches. Yes, you have read it right! Before long, we shall release a free version of Frequency: Chernobyl where you will be able to try yourself in the role of an amateur radio enthusiast, hunt for Radio Chaos, and dive into a mysterious world of numbers stations!

Frequency: Chernobyl Dev Diaries — Decrypting secret messages
Hey, friends! Welcome to Drunkard Racoons Radio and today we continue discussing our very first project Frequency: Chernobyl.
For those who just landed on this page ⬇
Frequency: Chernobyl is an immersive first-person single-player adventure based around the secrets of number stations. The plot is driven by various puzzles and encrypted messages originating from a mysterious radio station nicknamed "Radio Chaos."
You are not alone in your quest through the Exclusion Zone — the game includes allies who will provide hints to help the protagonist move forward along the storyline. We have also dedicated a large portion of the in-game journal to various decoding techniques. Nonetheless, players should be prepared to strain their ears and beat their brains out over the more sophisticated audio puzzles on offer.
The interface of the in-game journal is currently a WIP, but we would like to give you a sneak peek of its earlier prototype as well as the kind of puzzles you can expect to come up against upon release.
There are hundreds of known encryption methods around the globe. The roots of modern data encryption can be traced almost 3,000 years back to the Mesopotamian era.
Drastically different forms of cryptology developed early on in separate regions of the populated world — from the famous Caesar Shift Cipher born in the ancient Roman Empire, to the early Indian kingdoms, where state officials used secret codes to communicate with a countrywide network of spies.
We used almost two dozen distinct encrypting techniques when inventing puzzles for the game and our main goal right now is to balance their difficulty. Early in-house testing has shown that while some players cracked the ciphers rather easily, others almost went up in smoke trying to figure those out and wanted to smash their keyboards (on our heads 😅, no doubt).
Today we would like to share one of the easiest in-game puzzles based on an alphanumerically encrypted shellcode and are looking forward to hearing what you have to say about it. Don't worry, we'll also provide a key to successfully decoding it! Check this out:

Let us know how long it took you to decode the cipher and please don’t spoil the solution in the Discussions. We would like everybody to have a chance to figure this one out for themselves!
Hope you liked this article and that it inspired you to wishlist Frequency: Chernobyl. If you’re eager to know even more — a free prologue is coming soon. Stay tuned!
